One of my favorite local seafood spots. The oyster nachos are a must especially when it’s oyster season. They are fried oysters on top of a lovely chipotle tartar sauce resting on a tortilla chip topped with a house made pico de gallo. They used to have a really nice chip but now it’s just a commercial tortilla chip but it’s still yummy. The lobster grilled cheese sandwich is deliciously decadent. Chunks of lobster, gooey cheese, and buttery bread. I got it with their house made potato chips which were a treat. I asked for extra seasoning on them. You can’t go wrong with the fried shrimp which were fresh, lightly seasoned, nicely fried with just the right amount of batter served with seasoned fries. If you are not in the mood for seafood, the chicken and sausage with red beans and rice are full of flavor and will not disappoint. The specials on the chalkboard are usually a good choice as well. Definitely try it if you are in the area.
I was in town for a work conference and stopped by Half Shells for happy hour. Everything was excellent. I had the clam chowder, fishwich, and an Old Fashion, and each one was spot on. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the drink was perfectly made. Catherine the bartender was amazing. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming, she made my first visit even better. Great atmosphere and a perfect happy hour spot. I will definitely be back.
Oysters are very good, some of the best I’ve had in Texas. Briny - tastes just like the ocean. Took my wife and son here for a rainy Valentine’s Day and ROD our server brought our leftover chocolate mousse to our car because we forgot. Excellent customer service. Thank you ROD and Half Shells!
We had a wonderful experience at Half Shells in Plano. The restaurant is beautiful, the hospitality was excellent, and Jean, our waiter, went above and beyond to make our family dinner perfect. The food was great as always. We also love that they take reservations.
I ordered an oyster dish that came with a very nice mignonette (I forget what it was called) and the fish and chips. The oysters were very good quality and super fresh. Service was quick and our waiter , Austin, was great. He even gave us a sample of one of their new oyster dishes, which was lovely. The fish and chips was excellent, probably the best I’ve had in this area. It was really crispy and flaky on the outside without being even a little bit greasy, and the cod inside was super buttery and well-seasoned. The housemade tartar sauce was also good. I also tried a piece of the garlic caper salmon, which was excellent! The beurre blanc was extremely flavorful. I highly recommend this place.
We had a wonderful meal at Half Shells with the Shrimp and Grits and the Fish and Chips platters setting the stage. We have been coming to this restaurant in Legacy East for many years and it stays in business because it delivers great seafood at a reasonable price. The Shrimp and Grits were a black board special and only $17. Our service is always great too! We highly recommend Half Shells.
Excellent! Just happened in for lunch, first timers. Very clean and sound level good for conversation. Because we were first timers, our waiter Emanuel (nice guy) brought us a sample of the Smoked Trout Dip - which was great! Definitely a great starter. We ordered the smash burger and a salad to split, but our waiter did the work for us. I didn't get a pic but they also had a fresh seafood bar. Overall a sound eating experience, looking forward to going back and exploring the menu a bit. Lunch for 2 w/o alcohol $35.
Delicious and fantastic atmosphere. Visiting in the area and will definitely want to return to this spot. The seafood was high quality and full of flavor. Every dish that came out looked amazing around me. I sat outside in the front, there was live music near me and there was a great social/happy atmosphere. The prices were great for the quality of the dishes. The adult beverages were high quality also and worth purchasing. I only gave four stars instead of five on service because it took a little bit of time for our server to come to our table (about five minutes). Once she started serving us though, the service quality was attentive and quick.
My wife and I are frequent diners at Half Shells in Plano Texas. Our experience has always been very nice. My wife almost always gets fish & chips. We noticed in the recent past, over several visits, that the batter was burnt in several places. This was not to the extent that it had a major effect on the taste, but more on texture. We have mentioned this on a previous visit to the wait staff. Here’s the good news: during our visit today we found the fish & chips batter was a very nice, even golden brown. It looked wonderful, tasted great and the texture was superb. We asked to speak with the manager to express the difference between past & the current presentations. He said that they had become aware of this issue and started changing the shortening more frequently than previous individuals had (I am not sure this meant personnel changes or not). (Over reuse shortening can result in hot spots and uneven cooking). It was great to know this restaurant is concerned with quality and takes steps to improve it! My rainbow trout was also very nicely done! Oh, and they had no problem substituting spinach for the chips at our request. The chips are great too, we are just watching carbs currently. Further, we’ve always found the wait and other staff most personable and interested in making one’s dining experience pleasurable. Thanks Half Shells. Keep it up!
I visited Half Shells Legacy center while in town for a conference and boy was I impressed. The atmosphere was relaxed and the food was amazing. The customer service was unmatched. Thom and Calvin are outstanding! Needless to say we returned before catching our flight and received the same great service and delicious food. I will certainly return.
I am from Alabama and I was visiting! Everything was so good!! The food was amazing! Service was amazing as well! Thom was great! He’s the reason I tried everything on the menu! He is also the reason we came back a second time before heading back home to Alabama! Calvin was our server and he was the sweetest! We even got to meet the GM and we asked him about opening up a location in Alabama!! This is a MUST visit restaurant!! You won’t regret it!!
Upscale diner vibe. We were seated right away on a Sunday evening. Friendly staff. My husband had a traditional margarita but it tasted like watermelon. It wasn't bad, just different. He ate the crab and shrimp stuffed flounder. I had the shrimp tacos, which were amazing! The key lime pie had a great flavor with a yummy homemade graham cracker crust.
We come to this area every year for a work conference and stay around the corner at the Marriott. It is a beautiful, easy walk to the restaurant. I had the blackened crawfish and shrimp taco special. We also had the fried pickles appetizer, which was perfect. Pickles are thin chip slices, not wedges or too thick cuts. We had Paul C. who was wonderful and had a contagious smile and great energy! The entire staff seemed to flow well. 100% recommended and look forward to our visit next year!
Food here was pretty good, above average, I'd say. The oysters were fresh and their entrees were tasty, well portioned, and well priced. The restaurant was a tad bit on the louder side but overall vibe was good. Server wasn't exactly the friendliest or courteous, but he got done what needed done wso much else to say. Definitely plan on coming back in the near future.
I popped in for lunch and had the seared ahi tuna tacos (not on the regular menu but on the specials board that day.) They were just OK. Bartender Karen was awesome. There were a lot of "regulars" there as everyone seemed to know each other. I think dinner on the patio would be ideal rather than dining inside. Location is great - shops at Legacy which is a neat area.
The experience was okay, I asked to be seated at the bar, hostess said "no, let's get you a booth so you're comfortable." I don't like booths but followed her anyway. Later, I nearly fell out onto the floor because there's this tall step that you can't really see and I'd forgotten it was there. Waiter was nice, attentive but a little distracted. Food was good: calamari was better than expected, the much-hyped crab cake was not the best I've had but definitely not terrible. I've had better. I think it's a rip off that they don't consider Michelob Ultra a domestic. But whatever. Overall, a nice after work bite, but I'm not driving out of my way to get here. If I'm in the area, I'll stop in for the calamari again.
My experience on a Saturday afternoon was quite average. I visited for a late lunch, and while it was slow when I arrived, the service was also sluggish. It took 40 minutes for my food to arrive. I ordered char-grilled oysters, which were just okay, mainly because the oysters were very small. The flavor was also unremarkable. The catfish I had was not fresh and had a distinctly fishy taste. However, the fried shrimp were good, and I would recommend them. The fried oysters were tiny and seemed to have no seasoning on the breading, which was disappointing. The service was basic but acceptable. I would consider giving this place a second chance because the food does have potential.
I sat at the bar at Half Shells and quickly noticed a contrast in service. Christine, one of the bartenders, was attentive, professional, and ensured that my visit went smoothly. She checked in when needed and maintained a friendly presence throughout, setting a standard for good hospitality. In contrast, the elder blonde bartender with a ponytail remained in front of me the entire time and did not offer a single acknowledgment (no hello, smile, or word) while attending only to the patrons she was assigned to. Her behavior was deliberate and noticeable. It was clear from observation that presence alone does not equate to service, even a simple greeting or acknowledgment defines the atmosphere of bar. On the food side, the limited edition Roasted Jalapeño Cheddar Soup was excellent, rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced. I could have gone without tasting The Lobster & Shrimp Sandwich and Caesar Salad, thumbs down.
Be careful, the food they gave was in poor condition, I do not know if they did because they did not speak the language, but since they arrived they had a bad attention with me, they had recommended this place to me, but if you are not to the liking of these people who attend the establishments, they attend to you badly and give you poor quality food, they should put an advertisement where they say that not all people can enter, only those they choose. The lady in the picture was the one who attended me in the box and then was in the kitchen handling the food!
