Madurai Thattu Kadai is popular for its authentic Tamil Nadu cuisine and energetic atmosphere, reminiscent of restaurants in Tamil Nadu. The biryani and kothu parotta are highly recommended. Some find the self-service and ambiance lacking, but appreciate the reasonable prices.

Tip: Try the Chennai style biriyani or the kothu parotta. Be aware that it's more of a takeout place with energetic vibes and self-service.

Food superb👌 Service is superb 👌 And atmosphere is also very good👍 Really it's a very good option for Indian food👍
If you’re craving real Tamil Nadu style food in Dallas, this place is an absolute gem. The flavors are unbelievably authentic — the kind of taste you usually only get from small thattu kadais back home. It’s also very affordable, which makes it even better considering the quality and variety they offer. The ambiance is another highlight — simple, lively, and full of South Indian vibes. Every Thalaivar fan will instantly love the posters, the energy, and the nostalgic atmosphere. It feels like stepping into a mini TN hotspot right here in Texas. Highly recommended for anyone missing home-style Tamil food!
What an amazing experience at Madurai Thattu Kadai! The fried fish and tawa fish were cooked perfectly, and the nethili fry was super tasty and crispy. Felt like eating fresh home-style South Indian coastal food. Will definitely be going back!
I placed a live Pongal special catering order with Madurai Thattu Kadai, and the experience was absolutely wonderful. The food was extremely delicious, authentic, and full of rich Madurai style flavors. Every item was prepared fresh and served hot, which made the live catering experience even more special. We truly enjoyed all the dishes, especially the Kadai Fry, Mutton Sukka, Pomfret Whole Fish, all varieties of Dosas, and the standout Basha Biryani, each dish was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. The quality, taste, and service exceeded our expectations. Overall, we had a great experience, and I would highly recommend Madurai Thattu Kadai for live catering orders. A perfect choice for anyone looking for authentic South Indian and non-veg flavors.
The staff working in the restaurant were very good. The food and ambience is also very good. Must visit place for experiencing authentic Indian vibe. I tried the Pongal Special Thali, it was very tasty.
Food is always good, right on spot with the flavors. The ambience is different and rustic, unlike usual restaurants with posters. I’m glad they were open on Thanksgiving and we could have an impromptu family dinner. My daughter enjoyed the music and her food came out soon as requested.
Recommended South Indian Restaurant in Plano/Frisco region. Visited on a holiday weekend. Medium crowd and orders took 20mins to be catered. Dine-in and togo options available. Chicken Kalakki is extraordinary, karvadu kulambu is must try here. Enjoyed dining sea food meals. Its a self service restaurant and is open until late nights during weekends. Have a great dining experience.
This is an absolute gem for anyone craving authentic Tamil flavors. I recently visited and ordered their Mutton Elai Parotta—a dish that was nothing short of divine! The parotta was soaked and drenched in rich, flavorful mutton curry and wrapped in a banana leaf, which infused it with an extra layer of aroma and authenticity. Every bite was heavenly! Next, I tried the MTK Mutton Biriyani, and it was phenomenal. The biriyani was perfectly cooked, with tender mutton pieces and aromatic spices coming together in a way that only a true Tamil Nadu kitchen can master. It was served with salna and raitha, enhancing the experience further. On my second visit, I had Mysore Pak and Bread Halwa for dessert, and both were delightful. The Mysore Pak had the perfect balance of ghee and sweetness, while the Bread Halwa was rich and comforting. The ambience was truly Indian, with nostalgic Tamil movie posters and traditional décor adding to the charm. It felt like stepping into a street-side eatery in Madurai itself. If you’re a fan of bold, authentic South Indian flavors, this place is a must-visit! Ik this is gpt generated but my love for the food here isn't.
Awesome wedding style briyani! Had the combo pack with mutton briyani, chicken 65 and a bread halwa sweet. It was amazing. No complaints on the food. But pls do consider keeping the hand wash area clean. Also the cutlery/plates need attention. If you are looking for a vibe there is zero vibe. But if you are looking for some good food yes definitely a go to place!

Good quality and great taste. This place has a different vibe, old Tamil movie poster are attractive, and the service was prompt. If you love authentic south Indian tamilnadu cuisine, this is a must visit place. Chicken kalaki and botti fry are must try.
It's good place to get south India food especially from TamilNadu. We go there often as it's nearby. I like there Sambar and Veg Kurma for Parota. There are lot of vegetarian options available here. The place is not so cozy but it's good. It's not very clean and maintained well. It's good for regular meal or weekends. They should rename it as Family Bar and Restaurant 😅 Every other table on Friday day evening are having fun with drinks. There is always big queue for billing, they should consider going online. There are other eateries as well available near to it.
Madurai Thattu Kadai gives a very authentic local Tamil Nadu experience. We took a friend who recently visited, and he said it felt just like being in Madurai. The posters on the walls add to the authentic vibe. You’ll see lots of families with kids, but also people coming here to drink (tasmac effect), so it’s not always the most family or kid-friendly environment. Cleanliness could be improved, and the biryani can sometimes be a bit salty. My personal favorite is the chicken kizhi parotta—definitely worth trying! Overall, it’s a great spot if you want a taste of Madurai in town.
Traditional South Indian food. Food is close to Tamil style. Overall food Quality is good . Quantity is not bad at all. All are self service - order- pick up . Chicken pepper fry is good. Biriyani is somewhat good - will get Egg . Sambar will not recommend. Masala dosa is ok like ordinary. Tried Nannari juice it was too sweet but ok. Overall good spot to hangout with South Indian traditions and dishes.
This has a delightful experience for those craving authentic South Indian street food. With a wide range of options to choose from, the restaurant stays true to its roots, serving flavorful and well-spiced dishes. The parotta with chicken or mutton curry is an absolute must-try, with its soft texture perfectly complementing the rich gravies. Among the appetizers, the dry ones stand out more than the wet varieties, bold flavors and a satisfying tastes. The atmosphere is decent, though the loud music might not be for everyone. Pricing is reasonable and well-justified for the quality of food served. Overall, it was a great experience, and we’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a taste of authentic Madurai-style cuisine!
I love their parota variety. Me and my friends enjoy having tamilnadu type food there. Atmosphere is so good . The tamil movie poster give good vibe. So far I enjoyed their tiffin items. Last time I craved for bajji and tried mirchi bajji. Awful. The batter is so thick than the size of the mirchi inside. Also they are not hot. Think how it will taste when the bajji is not hot and on top the batter is so thick. It will chock. I would never try their bajji or bonda.
No frills Tamil food. If someone is looking for a no frills self service style eatery this restaurant works well. The food was good and they had a variety of South Indian options.

If you are craving for some good indian food definitely visit this place. They serve hot and yumm food even at 12 am. Good vegetarian options. Not a good ambience though but food is really good.
If you're yearning for authentic Tamil cuisine, look no further—this establishment is a must-visit destination. While reminiscing about the past, one might recall the fond memories of enjoying unlimited thalis, a culinary tradition that added to the vibrant dining scene in Irving years ago. Despite the absence of such offerings now, the atmosphere remains lively and bustling, indicative of the restaurant's popularity. As for the food itself, it certainly lives up to expectations. The chicken fry boasts a tantalizing crispiness that's sure to satisfy even the most discerning palates, while the fish delights with its delectable flavor and freshness. Overall, the dishes pack a punch with their perfect balance of spices, delivering a satisfying culinary experience that's bound to leave you craving more. So, indulge your cravings for Tamil cuisine at this establishment and treat yourself to a culinary adventure that's both nostalgic and delicious.
Tried this place over the weekend and sampled their seafood meals, wedding biryani, and jigarthanda — everything was absolutely delicious! What I loved: • Authentic and flavorful Tamil food • Nostalgic ambience with Tamil movie posters and traditional décor • Quick self-service setup • Great variety of Tamil menu options What could be better: • Some areas were dimly lit and could use better lighting • Music volume was a bit too high — a slightly lower volume would make the dining experience more enjoyable Would definitely visit again to try more from the menu!

Madurai Thattu Kadai in Dallas was a disappointing experience overall. While the restaurant has good posters and an appealing look from the outside, the actual dining experience did not live up to the expectations. The cleanliness was a major issue. The tables were not properly cleaned, which immediately created a bad first impression. For a restaurant, hygiene is very important, and this was clearly lacking during our visit. Food-wise, only the starters were decent. Unfortunately, the rest of the dishes we ordered were not good at all and felt like a complete waste of money. The flavors were underwhelming and did not reflect the authentic taste one would expect. Customer service was another letdown. There was no proper response from the staff, and overall service felt inattentive and unprofessional. We did not feel welcomed or valued as customers. Overall, despite the good appearance and posters, the restaurant experience was below average. With better cleanliness, improved food quality, and more attentive customer service, this place could improve significantly.
Food was okay. But I literally gave 2 stars for the hygiene they maintain. They should concentrate on improving the hygiene. Floors , chairs and restrooms were not clean at all. I am not sure how their kitchen is maintained , Will definitely think about taking my kids there .
We went there as a 3 family group and had different varieties of dinner items that includes biriyani, masala dosa, kothu porotta, egg kuruma and porotta, tea. Food : Overall, food wise I feel like all of them are more tamilish in nature. (The shop name shows that though) People from other states may feel like they are eating a different continental dish.. Maybe I am wrong, it's up to the individuals. But we used to go to Hyderabadi restaurants, Nepali restaurants and Kerala restaurants and from all of them we feel like we had authentic Indian food. Service: Service is kind of self service. We order the food first and pay it from the counter. Wait for the food. After sometimes, they will call for the food, but don't expect you get everything in that. You have to wait more time if you want to get all of them in your order, which is horrible from eater perspective..
Inconsistent food and poor service handling We ordered multiple dishes, so this is based on a full dining experience. Pomfret full deep fry: Not truly “full” deep-fried. The outside was fried, but the masala inside the fish felt undercooked and raw in the middle. Poor execution. Donne mutton biryani: This was the best dish we had. We liked it enough to re-order. Chennai wedding chicken biryani: Average. Nothing memorable. Set dosa with mutton curry: Dosa was standard. The curry was the real letdown. The mutton seems to be cooked or boiled separately and then dipped into a bland, watery sauce. The meat is there, but there’s no depth or proper flavor. The service is where things really went downhill. After enjoying the first Donne mutton biryani, we ordered it again. It arrived after a long wait (15–20 minutes) and had only **three pieces of mutton**, mostly rice. I went to the counter immediately. The server admitted it could be a mistake and offered to remake it. By then, we were done and asked for a refund instead. This was agreed to, and the biryani was taken back. However, when it was time to pay, the lady at the counter refused to remove the item, saying refunds aren’t allowed and quoting the manager — after the food had already been taken back. It felt like a double play, assuming customers wouldn’t question it. Only after pushing back did the manager step in and remove the item, saying the order was still “open.” Mistakes happen. What matters is how they’re handled. The attitude and expressions at the counter made it feel like asking for a favor instead of raising a valid concern. That’s not acceptable, especially after paying a high bill(95$) for a disappointing experience. Food quality is inconsistent, and customer handling needs serious improvement.
Worst food ever , this restaurants food is abysmal. I am visiting Texas from Minnesota and was very excited to go to this place but they couldn't disappoint me any further. This restaurant is supposed to be like street food and that's how the ambience is with zero cleanliness but that is acceptable since everyone comes only for the vibe and food . The food was worst , I ordered for mtk chicken 65 biriyani, Parotta with chicken salna and Kari dosai . The biriyani was the worst I have ever tasted, I don't know how they call it Biriyani it was like veg brinji rice topped with chicken 65 . The Kari dosai was average but the salna that came with it was worst , Parotta and salna was ok but nothing as good as it used to be . I don't know why the restaurant gets crowd since Texas has so many options. Very overrated but pathetic restaurant.
