Everything was delicious with good portion sizes. I shared the tuna tataki, crispy spicy tuna roll and a bowl of udon with my partner and that was perfect for us. The broth for the udon was some of the best I’ve had in America. The place was swamped and staff was working really hard to make everyone happy, and did a great job.
Delicious Japanese cuisine! Wide variety of sushi! Hibachi meals available at both the grill side and non-grill side of the restaurant. Gluten free soy sauce upon request, and they will prepare Hibachi meals using gluten free soy sauce.
This is the 3rd Koto restaurant we have visited so far. First was in CT, second in VT and now this one in Plattsburgh. Of all three, this was the smallest one and they close between lunch and dinner. Service was very good and so was the food. And despite being a little short staffed, food was served quickly. We do recommend this restaurant and we’ll certainly be back!
Im a waitress and bartender here. I work close to 40 hours every week and I strive to give my customers the best possible experience weather it's sitting at a dinning table, at one of our hibachi tables or just relaxing at the bar. Come on in and enjoy your meal with us! I'll do my best to keep you coming back! Thanks for reading and I hope i have the pleasure of meeting you :)
We had an order mix up with doordash and the ladies on staff tonight were super understanding and sweet and fixed it very fast!!! They even let us keep the other order. We are definitely looking forward to our next visit in person!!!!
I’ve traveled all over the US for the past 10 years believe me when I say hands down one of the best place to eat and the price was amazing as well . And the staff was very well informed. 10 out of 10 recommended . 2 meals for less then $60 when I have paid twice that for the same meals.
Staff is friendly. Cooks put on a nice show at the hibachi. You get to meet new people or sometimes you get to sit with friends.
Awesome place to eat! Very entertaining and my kids loved it as well. Can't wait to go again
Best Japanese food in the area! There is nothing on the entire menu that is not scrumptious. The hibachi cooks seem to be lacking a little enthusiasm but still slightly entertaining. Their crab salad and amazing rainbow sashimi rolls are my favorite! If you like sushi/sashimi/nigiri/hibachi, you MUST try Koto... Plus the service is a bit more than decent.
The sushi is awesome, and if you are a hibachi fan then you HAVE to go for lunch because it is a great deal and delicious as always. The gyoza appetizer is great, and literally any roll you get will be fresh and super tasty.
I've only ever had 1 bad meal here and it was not this most recent visit. I really enjoy the hibachi and get it every time I go. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to our large group. The food was fresh and the restaurant was clean.
We have visited numerous times and have overall enjoyed our experiences there. The hibachi is always entertaining and the food good. The standard dining area is clean and we have always been promptly tended to. Food is always consistently good and fast.
Honestly one of my favorite places to get sushi. All the staff and chefs are so kind! It was just me my sibling and mother celebrating my birthday there, and they sung happy birthday, and I got free ice cream! :D A wonderful place~ Azasu!! >u<]/
If you like watching people cook your food right in front of you, this is it! The Chefs put on an excellent show for you while cooking your food to perfection right before your eyes. The sushi here is excellent as well, lots of options and specialty rolls you can order. I have been here multiple times and have yet to order the same roll and have yet to leave hungry! If you leave here hungry it is your own fault. The Hibatchi is a little pricey, only Hibatchi I have ever been to, but you are paying for the entertainment, the interaction, and the food of course, so it's worth it. Give it a try. Added note, to the guy that payed for me and my family while he was leaving, Thank you so much. Doubt you will see this but thank you.
Hibachi is the way to go. Food cooked right in front of you with a little show too. Awesome! I always get the filet mignon with rice and veggies which comes with a salad and soup. Everything is always hot and delicious. Almost too much food... Sometimes I take home leftovers. Highly recommend it.
Great place, we were very happy with our meals. We took the dine-in option, we had a quiet table, and we had the hibachi sirloin steak, and the hibachi chicken, with noodles and rice. It was perfect thank you, we highly recommend the place.
All around amazing. Some of the fasted freshest sushi around. Our server Angela was attentive, fast, and extremely kind. For an appetizer I recommend the Gyoza, and the Adirondack roll. Entree wise, definitely the udon. Oh and don’t you forget the fried banana for dessert. We will be back soon.
Went here last night for a birthday celebration and it did not disappoint! Staff were extremely friendly and attentive, happily answered any questions we had. Our chef was so nice and very talented, putting on a spectacular show for us all. The food was excellent as well, we ordered sushi and goyza apps & seafood combinations, one with rice the othe noodles, both were great! Takes a certain level of talent to put on a show while cooking food to perfection. The overall cleanliness during dinner rush was acceptable. Highly recommend, would definitely return again.
Came in New Years eve without a reservation. Restaurant was full. Was greeted with a smile and seated even though they were quite busy. Ordered our drinks whithin 5 minutes. Extremely polite and personable staff. Made us feel very comfortable. Food was AMAZING!! Sushi is super fresh. So glad we came to our second choice !
I liked udon and hibachi food..great food, good service and fastee
Good food, good presentation, super attentive wait staff. Nice atmosphere. Very accommodating.
Although it was absolute insanity to order from Koto during this pandemic..... We cannot complain. We ordered chicken Katsu along with a good bit of sushi which included: - Vermont Roll - Salmon Spicy Roll - American Roll - Crab Salad Pictured in the review was the Vermont and American roll. Constructive criticism - stop giving customers that gross pink ginger. Get the good pickled white ginger instead. Yum yum!
Our chefs were entertaining at the Hibachi tables. There were 16 of us , so it wasn't easy. All appetizers were timely and delicious. Our waiter is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. We love to come back.
Awesome Hibachi Grill Theatrical experience. Absolutely worth it. Just the show alone is worth the money, food is just a great add on bonus lol 😆. I do recommend this place. Food is reasonably priced. Also once you order it does not take too long get the food. Best fact is you don't get bored waiting for food as they are preparing it right in front of you! They have a great live shushi bar, wish I ordered that as a starter. Also they do have a Bar on the other side of restaurant, but cant comment on that as we did not use it. They have around 4-5 bug hibachi grills with around 8-10 seats on each. So I don't think anyone would need to reserve the table/seat before going in. Give them a try!!! And checkout the video.
What an excellent Hibachi experience!!! The appetizers and dinner were outstanding. The staff was super friendly and very attentive. The place was crowded, but there were no delays with service or quality. The chef put on quite an entertaining show, and everything was cooked to perfection (had the hibachi seafood combo). Prices were as expected for the quality and quantity of food. So if you're in Plattsburgh and want Japanese food, it's worth a stop...
My boyfriend and I went out for dinner here tonight for his birthday, it was amazing, well worth the 1.5 hour drive. The service was great, and our food was out very quickly. We will be returning. Our bill was $106, but we did order quite a bit of food (as you can see), and ended up taking some home!
Excellent services, food, and people! We came here for my daughter's 17th birthday and just enjoyed ourselves. The food is very tasty and good quality. A good to know is if you have a group and not many are doing the Habachi you will have to sit a a regular table. Now if you have like three or more in your group doing the Habachi then you can sit and enjoy the entertainment of having your food cooked before you. Overall great experience.
When I go out to Plattsburgh, Koto is definitely in the discussion for top places to eat. I would rank it in the Top 3. If going out with friends, I highly recommend this restaurant. Lots of people come here, so it makes for a fun environment. Not enough art, music isn’t too loud, the lighting is perfect. Sometimes you can’t understand the staff, but the food quality is great. Will definitely be coming back here in the future.
The show at the Hibachi grill was amazing. Filet Mignon was tender and delicious. Shrimp was very good. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Very enjoyable time there with our family
I'm not a food critic but it was very good. It was a good atmosphere if you go with a group of people the chef shows a good time. I recommend doing hibachi
Amazing food. Kind of felt rushed out. But that's my fault for waiting to go so late. Open until 1030 pm is another great thing.
The Sushi is simply divine especially for being located in Plattsburgh. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is a result of the HORRIBLE, and I mean HORRIBLE wait staff. I have been a server before, and if I would have ever treated a customer with such disdain or poor service I would have been fired on the spot. I feel like they need to hire better servers for their establishment or they will loose customers.
The service was excellent and we enjoyed the food. I only thought the atmosphere could use a little work. It was a little dark inside. We will definitely be going back.
People complain too much. Of course it's not like eating in NYC or Tokyo. Plattsburgh is a small city, they adjust to their market. Of course it's relatively expensive. Sushi is an expensive food, always has been! They have well presented lunch specials at very reasonable prices. I like the restaurant; don't just take the pretentious reviewers' complaints at face value! Check it out for yourself.
Helped us celebrate our daughter's 18th birthday. They were very accommodating. We brought a cake in, and they had no issues serving it to us after dinner. The food was great!
The food was excellent. The show was decent. Not the best habachi I've ever seen. The sushi was phenomenal. We did spend like 75 dollars a person. It was pricey but worth it for the food. The service was definately nowhere near as good as the food. I had to wait 20 minutes after my glass was empty to get a waitress to take my glass and it was another 15 minutes for her to return with a full one. Honestly I had given up hope for a drink. So good and bad I suppose.
The food here is always good. The staff is fast and on point. I don't think my glass was half empty (or 1/2 full) before they were bringing me another drink. I also appreciated that they do not use as much salt as other Japanese restaurants usually do. There is virtually no wait to be seated even for the Hibachi dinners, and they cook faster than any other Japanese steak house I've ever been to. However, their is a trade off. Because their turnover rate is so fast, it limits the amount of time many enjoy watching the Chef cook. Overall I would highly recommend Koto.
The environment is lovely. I really enjoyed watching the food cooked in front of our group. Our chef had terrible aim when trying to shoot food into our mouths though, nowhere even close to us but it was funny. If you dont want extra attention from the cook dont sit in the seat closest to him - the end seat where they walk into the square to cook. Food was absolutely delicious.
I've been to both their locations, Albany and this the Plattsburgh "store". They do a brisk business, provide consistent "product" -- namely a standard Japanese menu with fun specials; fresh, generous portions -- in a timely fashion. Something else I noticed was their salad dressing isn't the usual ginger-whatever stuff, which I like, but something a little more complex without being bizarre. They'll also occasionally give me, normally a sushi bar sitter, a little palate cleanser or small dish item that, of course nets them a better tip, but is more than the place I also go to, in Lake Placid, has ever done for me. Koto is good food, nicely prepared and presented. Polite staff. Clean interior(s). Oh, and good prices. Can't forget that.
We had the chef cook in front of us. The shrimp tempura appetizer was the best I have had in a while. The batter was extremely crisp and crunchy. The steak and shrimp on the grill were very flavorful. The dipping sauces supplied were a bit different and disappointing. I wouldn't particularly call them Japanese sauces. As is typical, the staff were definitely not Japanese. The chefs appeared to be Korean. The fried rice was just rice cooked in butter and soy sauce, with a couple of eggs thrown in.
Food was great, was incredibly loud and essentially sat elbow to elbow with someone I had no desire to sit on top of. Not a huge fan of how close the seating is, and our order wasn't correct. The prices are fair and the portions were actually appropriate. Service was responsive and very hospitable.
We arrived at the restaurant and we're quickly seated with a family because we only numbered two. It was kind of awkward but we made due. The chef was absolutely amazing. We ordered off the Hibachi menu expecting a great show and the chef did not disappoint. The chef was second to none and made us feel like we were in Orlando. The server was fairly attentive but the overall cleanliness of the restaurant was slightly lacking. To be fair it seem like we arrived after their busy time and they may not have had time to clean up from the rush. The food was wonderful and my daughter has ranted and raved about it ever since so it did have its desired effect. We will definitely be going back once the occasion warrants it.
Service was good and pretty quick considering how busy it was. Noodles and rice were cooked well overall. Fish plates and sushi were prepared well. Sauces were different than what we’ve had at other hibachi restaurants. Grills and areas definitely in need of a good grease cleaning. Overall good.
Strongly suggest reservations for hibachi. Server did not check in once meal was served. Veggies were dry and bland. Chicken dry/overcooked. Will try again because it was a busy night.
I've been twice had the hibachi and both times they messed up my order. First time they served me chicken but I ordered steak. No big deal I let it pass. Mistakes do happen. Second time I ordered steak and lobster and I got no steak at all. This time I said something so they brought me out a microwaved steak. It was horrible. Wasn't worth the $35 per plate. But plus side the show was very enjoyable. Haven't decided if I will be back or not yet
Judging from the restaurant 's name I expected more steak dishes. There was only one..and it was prepared almost like a Chinese restaurant. I guess I will order one of the tempura dishes if I go back
I order just a shrimp tempura roll and a side salad. They were busy and it took a little bit longer than what they said, which was fine. Got my order and got to my car and noticed they didn't include my side salad. Went back in and got my salad right away. The food was not good... The shrimp tempura roll was VERY dry, barely had any sauce. And my salad was inedible; the cucumbers were slimy and the lettuce was brown and wilted. Sad to see that the food has gone down hill...
When we ate in the dinning room, our food came out a little cold. I have been here before and had better experiences, especially when we eat at the hibachi tables. I don't like that you need to pick either fried rice or noodles. Other hibachi places will give you both.
So I found this place on Google. I am going to break down the stars and why on the lower side because of MY experience. It's an average atmosphere not bad and not spectacular. The food was decent however if you have multiple people at a table paying the same amount for their entrees you should distribute the food you are cooking equally. In my case I'm looking at how at every turn I get one small scoop and the other 7 people get two portions. So the chef should pay attention to that. Therfore the 2 and 4 stars the food flavorful especially the sushi.
normally don't write reviews. But i find companies are doing a worse job at service than ever before... While the food is good, if even a expensive, they cant seem to get the entire order right. First time I ordered online for delivery only to find they don't deliver 1.6 miles away. SO placed the order online for pick up and waited the 15 minutes so It would be ready when I arrived. NOPE. order just went in as I walked through the door... excuse was... takes a long time to get them from the internet. My order was to have extra napkins, bottled water and a container for the soy sauce (eating at my hotel room) should have checked. didnt get any of it. weeks later I am back in town. same hotel... I call and they WILL deliver. Great. ordered water and extra soy and a container and napkins. paid the delivery girl, and checked bag... no container no napkins no water... it really isn't that hard is it?
Food was good, but I found a bunch of gum stuck under the hibachi table. I hoped to move to another table with my family, but there was more underneath the others. They offered a seat in the restaurant, but my children wanted "the fire." Hopefully they resolve this ASAP. Won't be going back anytime soon.
Not horrible, but not terribly impressive. Sushi ordered to go was not very fresh and had a somewhat offensive odor to it when I got it home. Edible, but a little scary. I got plenty of soy sauce packets, but nothing to put it in, and I was given VERY little pickled ginger and wasabi. The salad dressing was a bad combination that tasted like ginger-ranch, or something. Not the expected good Japanese ginger dressing, that's for sure. I don't think I'll be back here anytime soon.
For a hibachi restaurant it did not live up to many I've previously visited. My food was prepared in the back because of my seafood allergy and I got LOTS of fatty two inch chunks of steak. The food was cooked very fast (rice was being served to plates within two minutes!) with minimal show to it. There was no choice in salad dressing, for spicy rice or for yum yum sauce. While the veggies were good and my friends who had never been to hibachi enjoyed I thought it was very lacking and won't be back. I've got higher expectations because I know there's better... Just not in Plattsburgh.
I rate two stars from my previous five. The chow is acceptable, could have more flavor. It left me and my family in cranial and gastrointestinal distress after consuming the chow that we were rushed to guzzle. Maybe it was the guzzling that forced us on the toilet or maybe it was the cooking. Either way we are doubled over in pain.
We brought our grandson to experience Japanese cuisine for the first time and we were disappointed with the overall experience. We did the hibachi and all ordered something different. The food was cook well, but had absolutely no flavor at all. My husband and I travel extensively. For the price they charge and the quality you receive does not add up.
Honestly, their food is always spot on and delicious but their service is lacking. If you have an allergy or ask for any sort of customized order, always double check it because they rarely follow instructions. On top of it, when they screw up your order, they will tell you they will make a new one and it will be ready in a set amount of time and it takes more than double. I.e. saying a new sushi roll will be ready in 20 mins to correct the first one that they messed up on (and double checked and messed up on dtill) that had an allergy item excluded from it and it took over 45 minutes. Prioritize the customers that you have wronged or messed up their order on first. This scenario has happened at least 6 times in the last two years. No longer going there.
I was never able to find a place in Dallas like this so I have craved Koto's for so long. I finally make the trip and I was severely disappointed. All I really wanted was the soup and salad. The soup tasted like water with small floating pieces of chives and I don't know what. The salad was drenched in water, making the dressing taste off. I literally poured water out of my bowl. My dinner was fabulous, thus the extra star rating. I had the hibachi steak and it was cooked perfectly. The fried noodles tasted funny but the veggies were good. We got massive portions and it's definitely worth the price. Our service was subpar and there was not enough staff for us to even sit at the hibachi grill without waiting an hour or more (according to our waitress). I'm here for 2 more weeks... Please fix the soup and salad before I go!
I don’t recommend this place especially if you have food allergies. I explained to the waiter that I had a serious gluten allergy and then ordered a few simple rolls. When the rolls came out they were fried and/or had crunchies on them. I politely asked the server if that was what I ordered. He kind of shrugged and walked away. About 10 minutes later he walks by again and I asked if he knew of any gluten free rolls that I could order because my first few I got were not gluten free. Again he shrugged and just looked at me. At this point I politely asked if he knew what gluten was and his response was a blunt “no”. Definitely overpriced and for the quality/service it was not worth it.
The service by the waitress was good but it was ridiculous that I paid 100+ dollars for my meal and didn't get nearly what I paid for. The sushi was ok, but when it came to the hibachi it wasn't the best experience. The hibachi chef served my wife RAW CHICKEN and gave attitude when it was brought to his attention. He also gave me less that half of what everyone else got at far as portion goes. My meal was the steak and scallop and it was literally the kid size serving (everyone at the table had a full plate and mine didn't even cover half the plate). I would give zero stars if possible.
Rude and unfriendly service. Called and said i would be a few minutes late to pick up my order and they hung up on me half way through the call. Once i arrived i was greeted by an uninviting group of workers that made me feel like i was a burden for ordering food a whole 30 minutes before closing. Not a single thank you or ‘have a good night’. Sushi was not fresh and made me and my wife sick. If you honestly think this is decent Japanese food, you have to start going out more. At least the one in Burlington uses fresh fish. Never returning.
Horrible experience here. We were seated and waited for about 15 minutes for the server, no one came until I had to get up and tell them we were waiting. Our waitress was really unfriendly. Food is OK tasting and the prices are high. My daughter literally got 2 pieces of sushi for $7. Never going there again!!!!!!
Their standards have changed. Before the old manager made sure the kitchen didn't cheat when cooking the hibachi meals for takeout. Now instead of doing it on the grill, they do them in the kitchen and when you get them the container is full of water and it is disgusting. Not worth the money when it comes to takeout.
Terrible! The sushi rice was dry and a little hard. Fish tasted stale and old. Everything was sort of lukewarm. The waitress was terrible, brought my order and never returned. Could have used at least a couple refills of soda. Finally went to the bar to ask for my check. It came out to $42 just for myself, with a few non-special rolls I will never be returning to this place.
Picked up last night, and what a terrible experience that was. I ordered at 5:15 and was told my order would be ready by 5:53. I arrived at 5:55 to at least a dozen others waiting for their food. Many of these people had been there since before 5:00 too. When I went to the takeout window, not a single person came up. Not even when I rang the bell. A couple others tried calling, but were quickly hung up on. There was a table full of orders ready, but they seemed content ignoring us. When someone finally did come to the window, they were extremely rude, refused to answer questions, yelled at myself and others for inquiring about their orders, and ultimately shut their window in our faces. We eventually found that multiple orders had been sitting on the table for 60+ minutes, and the staff was just refusing to check them against who was standing outside waiting. I, along with everyone else there, was shocked by their behavior. I’ve never seen their staff openly yell at customers or act so aggressively. After this, I’m not sold on ordering from them again. Especially when they’re willing to let raw sushi orders sit, unrefrigerated, on a table for over an hour. I get that it’s a pandemic, but come on.
I am from NH so when I saw Plattsburgh had a KOTO I was excited until I went in.. It was Christmas night so it wasn't busy but we were seated and got drinks after a hour we got up to leave and the waitress came over to tell us the chef would be out soon. I explained we were traveling and needed to get on the road. At this point I would have went to McDonald's. She convinced us to stay a few more minutes. We noticed while sitting there the large griddle thing they cook on had grub all around the edge. We could not believe the service and the cleanliness was so bad. This place is nothing like The kota in New Hampshire. We left and went to McDonald's.
food is real good. hospitality and service is terrible. we were greeted and seated quickly. the assured came and took our drink orders and then didn't return for over 25 minutes. we ordered pig of the early bird menu, our so we thought. when we got the bill it was much more than anticipated. the waitress claimed that we ordered after the early bird time had passed. i kindly explained that we had waited for about a half hour to order and seven then we ordered 5 minutes before the special ended. when she got the manager upon our request, he came out already very confrontational with us. after an exchange he said he would remove an appetizer and discount 10%, claiming utt would equal out. he removed a different item that was cheaper and either way it did not equal out, not even close. i asked for him again. he returned, confrontational again, again explained the situation, he continued to be confrontational to the point that i had to ask him not to raise his vice to me. i again explained what, based on the menu i should be paying and that i was only requesting the advertised price. I, as a paying customer have never been treated like this, especially by a manager!
The food was terrible and not fresh at all, and the staff did not wear gloves.
Me and a friend went in for dinner. We bought appetizers, several sushi rolls, desserts and drinks. The drinks were watered down but all the food was great. They all stood and watched us eat the last 30 minute of our meal. Which started around 9:30 pm. There sign said they closed at 11 so it was very uncomfortable. They then tried to take the plate we were eating off mid bite at about 9:45 pm 2 different times. My friend was trying to finish her drink and they came to the table and said they were closing as they said this someone turned all the lights off. If you are going to kick people that paid over 70 dollars a person out an hour early because your dead atleast leave the lights on. I will never be back again. No excuse for such terrible customer service.
Not what it used to be. SERVER WAS VERY RUDE!!! We were seated and immediately she approached us and asked us what we want to drink and eat, didn’t even have time to look at the menu. We asked for our drinks and she came back with it and rudely asked if we’re now ready to order. QUIT RUSHING PAYING CUSTOMERS. Our food came in weird orders. My husband got his meal before I even got my appetizer. By the time my food came out his was cold. She never bothered to check up on us or ask how the food was. Never again, been coming here for the past 5yrs and never had service quite as atrocious
They changed there white sauce and the sauce they put on there noodles it absolutely nasty now. Makes the food taste sour 😔 won't be back there.
The sashimi was seriously not fresh. I vomited after eating it. Completely unacceptable. I will warn all my friends and family to stay away from this place.
This place does not honor the 10% off you get from the local school cards if you get an early bird special regardless of whether you get appetizers or anything else. We got multiple appetizers and they said we could not get a discount because we already got a discount. The card says nothing about this preventing a discount. Also we didn't order alcohol so it's not like our bill was inflated. Had we known this we would have got something different than the early bird special so we could enjoy the discount that we paid for with our card. Also the server spilled a bunch of drinks on the floor next to us which got my shoes wet. Not coming back here again.
Last night we ordered sushi and hibachi for delivery via DoorDash. Both of us got sick within hours of eating the food and nothing else was consumed but the food from Koto. I tried calling them to tell them what I had this morning so they could remove it from their lineup from the sushi bar and they told me to call DoorDash. DoorDash delivered the food, no problem, it was the food itself that was bad. Koto told me to go to the doctor and get a doctors diagnosis for food poisoning in order to get a refund. Anyone who’s had food poisoning before realizes that it’s over by the next day. Will not be returning. Ever.
Some time ago, we visited this restaurant and had a terrible experience. Our friend ordered grilled vegetables, but they brought fried ones instead—even though he is allergic. The server responded very irritably when we asked about the menu and practically yelled that it was what we ordered. It seemed like there’s an unprofessional manager, since the server got so upset over a simple mistake. The food was expensive and not that tasty—nothing special for the price. As a funny little note 😅—the restaurant presents itself as Japanese, but the candies they gave with the check were in Chinese. I found that kind of amusing given everything else.
Update 6/10/2025: It happened again!!! Another curly hair in the food!!! What the heck is going on here???? This place is quickly going downhill. I highly would consider other options to dine! My wife found a black curly hair under her chicken teriyaki. Absolutely gross. Also, they have jacked the price of everything…VERY expensive for junk food!
