We absolutely loved this restaurant. We stumbled upon it on our 2nd night, and enjoyed some yummy after dinner cocktails. We were greeted by Christopher, who instantly made us feel like old friends. We came back 2 evenings later for some of the best food we enjoyed all trip. The grilled octopus, ceviche, and carpaccio are fabulous. You can tell they only use the freshest ingredients and let the beauty of the simple ingredients shine. We will be recommending this spot to all our family and friends. Thank you to Christopher and staff for such a memorable experience.

Stumbled upon Chez Papa on our second night in Playa and were greeted by the owner who made us feel like family. Cocktails were fresh and delicious. We came back 2 nights later for appies and it was one of the best meals we had on our trip. The grilled octopus is a must try. The owner Christopher learned our names and took the time to sit down with us and give us other local recommendations in the area. All of their produce and proteins are sourced daily and it shows in the overall quality of their dishes. Cant wait to go back!

My wife and I just had an amazing Christmas Eve dinner here, the food was delicious, we have been in town for a week and this was the best meal we’ve had. Will be returning with the rest of our family for Christmas. The service was also excellent so thank you Henry and Christopher for making us feel so welcomed and at home!

We went to Chez Papa's for the first time tonight. Christopher was our waiter. He greeted us warmly and explained the whole menu in English for us. He brought us our drinks and we placed our order. I had the fettuccine alfredo with chicken and my husband had the hamburger and fries. There was so much food and it was so delicious! At the end of the meal, he treated us to a cocktail. He then told us about having live music on Saturday. I said it's too bad we didn't know last Saturday because it was my birthday and we could have celebrated there. Next thing I knew, he played a Mexican celebration song in honor of my birthday and brought out a couple little goodies. Definitely made my day/week/month!!! And we will for sure be going back. Highly recommend this place.

Under new ownership, so the menu has changed. We enjoyed our Super Bowl here with drinks and the chicken wings. Came back the next day for lunch for mussels & fries, coconut shrimp & fish tacos!

One of the best meals I’ve had in Playa during my six week visit. Chez Papa is a quaint and charming little place that makes you feel at home the minute you arrive. My partner had the cheese burger which, after several burgers in Playa, finally passed his taste test. I had the salmon and fries. Both were delicious with their homemade tartar sauce and homemade mayo. After tasting my partners mashed potatoes, I mentioned that he didn’t get enough of them only because I tasted them and wanted some of my own. A few minutes later, a small dish of them appeared in front of me. A wonderful dinner and experience. We will be back if ever back in Playa.

Fantastic service and delicious French food!! One of the best restaurants in Playa Car. The rotisserie chicken was melt in your mouth with a great flavor. The Camembert with honey was yummy. The waiter even gave my dog some chicken :) super nice. Will definitely go back!

This French-Canadian owned restaurant is one of the best eateries in Playa del Carmen. The service was great, warm and welcoming. The staff were upfront about being a busy night so the food might take a little longer than usual - which we appreciated. Now the food! MAGNIFIQUE! The chicken was so succulent, well seasoned and it fell off the bone when I went to take my first bite. The mashed potatoes are the best I’ve had in a restaurant worldwide. The frites are hand cut and the house made aioli was amazing (these are the best fries in Mexico - not frozen)! The sausage sandwich was tasty, homemade and decadent. The ownership has changed in the last year or so and the new team/owners are fantastic. As you can see by the pictures they are really like family. The prices are incredible especially when considering the location, portion size and QUALITY. I cannot say enough good things about this place. MUST visit when in the area.

What a great place, a must go when in Playa. Great vibe, hilarious staff and top notch food. I had the sausage sandwich with fries. Delicious meat, excellent toppings and the dips for the fries were fantastic. My wife got the chicken meal, it was so tender it was falling off the bone. It was so good she would only give me one bite to try. Haha We’ll be back to explore the rest of their menu and update reviews. 10/10 absolutely recommend.

This is a true gem on the Playa food scene! I came here only twice so far but both times were magnificent. I got the moules frits (mussels and fries) both times and they are perfect. This is the only place I know that serves mussels in PDC but they have super fresh ones and make you a nice big bowl in a wine sauce. It’s so fresh, rich, and flavorful! And comes with the perfect fries with homemade mayo. We also got mashed potatoes as a side which were so creamy and tasty that we had to order another serving. For dessert the tiramisu was also perfection. I don’t live in Playa but would love to have more opportunities to come here each time. Most importantly, aside from the amazing food, the staff is so exceptionally friendly and helpful. You will be treated as a life long pal so definitely make sure not to pass up on this restaurant! P.S. They are very pet friendly too! They brought a bowl of water for my dog and even treats too! Thank you for an amazing dinner!!

The food here is amazing every single time. I always get the roasted chicken with a salad and the house dressing is just delicious. The vibe is chill and it’s fairly quiet since it is a few blocks away from the busy 5th ave. The owners and the staff are so friendly and attentive. I’ve been in PDC for about a week and this is my second time dining here. I’ll be back a few more times before I leave because I want to also try the mussels. So delightful. I can’t recommend it enough!

My dinner tonight was magnificent! Loved the half chicken with fries and salad. The glass of sauvignon blanc was perfect with it. Ask for some of their homemade mayo for the fries. Simply had to satisfy my sweet tooth with the apple cake with ice cream and hot coffee. Definitely come to Chez Papa, the owner will treat you as family.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere! Very friendly staff, menu has a great variety of dishes. We tried roasted chicken with salad and the 2 sausages of choice with salad. There are quite a few types of sausages to chose from, unique flavours and we will be back to try more!

Excellent food! The French fries are the best in playa by far, they are real homemade fries none of that frozen stuff. The merguez saussage is the real one. Their plates are the perfect portion! They are also a reseller for Bon Vivant which is a nice bonus! Gabriel our waiter was super nice and friendly. Will definitely be back!

This is my favorite restaurant in Playa del Carmen! I came 4x in a month for breakfast, dinner, and dessert. I had the best burger of my life here, and I’m from the U.S. All the food is delicious and the servers are so warm and friendly. I’m going to miss this place when I leave Playa!

My favorite spot to eat non-Mexican food near by Airbnb on 34th street. Never had much French food, but now I know why they are the king of classics. Their menu del dia, such a steal, get the steak and fries for a super deal. Not to mention the sausage platter, home-made custom made sausages to order and enjoy. I came to know this place my first time arriving to Playa del Carmen waiting for an Airbnb and I needed a dreaded coffee after the Mexican restaurants I ate at had no cafe, so I stumbled upon this pearl in the beach and got ordered myself a cappuccino, hit the spot, made by a mexicana who with her French husband were owners of this magical place. Such a lovely couple. In the interior between the restaurant and the panaderia is a chill, homey feel patio with trees covering you from the random Yucatán summer rain and the eventual hot carmen sun. Come here for the food, for the French beach experience, you won’t be disappointed. I hope to comeback and live nearby so I can have breakfast everyday. Ohh the breakfast, the croissants and the baguettes with butter and jam, and whenever I feel I want to eat a proper meal, I come here as a humbled American.

Riquísimo!! pero lleva cash ya que la plataforma de Mercado Pago que tienen, no es la más rápida y puede que pases un mal rato porque no se puede cobrar. SIN EMBARGO, el servicio de Gabriel es muy amable y super eficiente. Cuentan con Wifi y si tú eres carnívoro y tu compañía es vegano, exactamente enfrente tienen opciones veganas. Y no te preocupes del dónde comerán lo que compren porque comparten espacios al aire libre.

El servicio y el ambiente son buenos, la comida tiene mucha grasa y las papas a la francesa las deben de mejorar, la salsa al chipotle le hacía falta sabor.

La comida sin sazón, la carne de la hamburguesa se desmoronaba y tuvimos que comerla como picadillo. La naranjada horrible, jugo de Naranja de bote rebajado con agua, sin hielos. La mesera hacía buen esfuerzo pero no tiene idea, los platos en la mesa saturada de cosas que ya se terminaron.

En la segunda visita estuvo mal el servicio, se tardaron más de 1 hora en servir la comida y nos cancelaron el guacamole porque no había aguacate y las papas de gajos lo mismo y nos trajeron unas papas a la francesa que parecían patatinas de las que vendían en bolsita

Fui porque leí las recomendaciones y leí el menú y se me antojó todo. Pero llegue a descubrir que tienen un menú completamente distinto y que todo es nuevo y no se me antojó nada ya que lo que me recomendaba la mesera como lo mejor eran las ensaladas y la pasta y eso no era lo que yo iba buscando. Ojalá hagan update de el menú pronto. Lo único bueno era el servicio, solo pedí un suero y no era bueno estaba demasiado salado 🤷🏻‍♀️

Diez minutos bajo el sol esperando que alguien te atienda. Los trabajadores voltean a verte y se ponen a hacer otra cosa. ¿En serio? No nos quedamos a descubrir cuanto tiempo más nos harían esperar antes de atendernos. Sin ganas de volver a intentarlo. Mejoren la atención.

Nada recomendable, lo que hace años fue un referente de Playa, ahora es lugar con precios de quinta avenida y con productos de tercera o cuarta categoría. Calidad deplorable en todos sus alimentos y bebidas, productos en pésimo estado, aseos y restaurante en estado de abandono y suciedad. Para acabar el dueño fue muy grosero en cuanto le devolvimos un plato por encontrase en estado putrefacto.

*Used* to be one of the best restaurants in Playa. Wondered aloud to my friend why it was empty at 8 on a Saturday night. I soon found out why. Went for dinner + dessert. I had shrimp tacos and my friend had Caesar salad. The waiter messed up our drinks; bringing lemonade when we ordered mineral water. The tacos were just deep fried shrimp in taco shells with a mayo sauce. No veg or anything special. My friend said the chicken in her salad was far too salty. She didn’t finish her meal. I did finish my tacos because I was hungry and looking forward to dessert. I ordered crepes. My “crepes” were wet, thick and strange with a lot of gross sauce all over them. My friend’s flan tasted like pure ginger powder. We had a couple bites and because they were not at all tasty, we didn’t finish those either. We would have just paid the bill and left it at that but the owner came up to us and said he’d just arrived from Canada 3 days ago. He said he knew things were wrong at his restaurant and he was trying to fix them. He took the desserts off our bill and offered us replacement desserts, but we both were grossed out and didn’t want them. He then asked how everything else was and when we told him it honestly was pretty bad he offered to take a portion off the bill and urged us to come back another time. When I told him honestly that I wouldn’t be back unless he took care of the whole bill, he got angry and retracted his offer to take a portion of the bill. He followed us into the street demanding we pay 175 pesos which we did. The whole thing was an an absolute debacle and when I told him I’d write a review about this he said I was extorting him. Now I definitely won’t be back. The new management has ruined the place and what should have been a lovely evening.
