As authentic as it gets! Maurice and team have done outsized, excellent work in recreating a bona fidelity Caribbean/South American and distinctively Guyanaese food experience for the US to enjoy! The pepperoni, goat curry, paella and rum cocktails all work well together 👌 Kudos team at Oyo! Highly recommend!
Came here for my mother's birthday and received the most amazing service, food, and experience. Highly recommend getting the seafood paella, it's absolutely delicious and perfect to share. To our surprise, we also received a free dessert on the house - a delectable banana bread pudding topped with ice cream and a candle, plus the staff came and sang for my mother. Seriously so touched by my experience here and how thoughtful the staff were, and would highly recommend dining here!
Oyo Pleasanton is one of our favorite restaurants in the area. We hadn’t visited in a while and were pleasantly surprised to see that they’ve expanded. The seating is spacious and comfortable, the art murals are amazing, and the overall vibe is warm and welcoming. We came specifically for the paella—an absolute must-order if you visit. Everything was delicious, and the experience reminded us why we’re such fans. Our server was fantastic, always making sure our drinks were refilled and the table was clean. A top-notch restaurant with great food, atmosphere, and service. We’ll definitely be back!
Wow—what an incredible dining experience! I was genuinely blown away by how delicious everything was at Oyo. To my surprise, the pork shoulder ended up being my favorite dish of the night. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, packed with bold flavor, and paired perfectly with the rice and beans. The plantains added just the right touch of sweetness to balance the savory richness. I love being able to taste all the spices and layers of flavor in each bite. The oxtail stew was also fantastic, and the paella was another standout. The jerk shrimp made for a cute and tasty appetizer. And I absolutely have to highlight the pumpkin soup—it was one of my favorites. The truffle and pumpkin notes were beautifully balanced, flavorful without being overpowering, and the whole profile worked so well together. Service and drinks were great, too! My only critique is regarding the to-go containers. For something as liquid-heavy as stew, the brown cardboard containers just aren’t ideal—they’re flimsy, not sealed, and unfortunately, as expected, ours did leak onto the other items. I’m only mentioning this in hopes that it’s helpful feedback, because it doesn’t take away from my overall experience. Oyo is definitely a fantastic spot for large parties, families, or group outings. We ordered three entrées and two appetizers, and the portions were generous enough to last multiple days—plus everything reheated beautifully. This place is a true gem and an absolute must-try if you’re in Pleasanton and enjoy Caribbean or South American cuisine. 👌
A beautiful place, great music, service and food. The seasonal veggies were outstanding. The skillet bread was yummy. The peas and rice side dish was pretty average and we would order something else next time. The ribs were amazing. We ordered the full rack, and could have ordered a half rack for the 2 of us. We finished up with the banana bread pudding. We would definitely order everything except the rice again.
Superb!!!!! 🤩✨🌟💫⭐️🌠✴️ Absolutely unbelievable flavors!!! Every dish is tastebud blowing. 🤯 Must try more than once….so much variety and the specials are worth the order. 🤤 ✨The indoor and outdoor atmosphere is filled with good vibes 🥰, music 🎶 , vibrant colors 🌈, large picture windows 🪟 , painted scenery (even in the bathrooms) 🖼️, live and lush plants 🪴, amazing staff 🧑🏼🍳👨🏽🍳, maps 🌍& secret recipes on the walls, skylights in the bar area, private dining behind the dining room large area, large patio facing the main intersection in the middle of downtown first street. 👀 Ps- the homemade tortillas are superb and the thickness and texture and taste 👅 shows the efforts of mixing the ingredients for a delicious, absorbent & strong wrap for every bite of your tacos 🌮. 🌟Happy hour menu as well. 😋 Indoor and outdoor seating with so much color and artwork 🖼️ and natural light and music and foliage. 🪴 All the boxes are checked for a full experience dining. 👌 ✅
I visited Oyo on a Friday evening, and I knew I was in for a treat upon arriving because of the crowd inside. Despite being really busy, I was greeted and seated quickly. The menu had so many choices that it was hard to decide, so I asked questions, which were happily answered by the host. The food was tasty and cooked to curry and spice perfection. I will be back to sample more items. The highlight of my meal was the salmon, which had an excellent cream dressing with mangoes. I missed great Caribbean meals in this area and am so pleased to have found a place that gets it right.
From start to finish, everything was absolutely delicious. We started with the calamari, which was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, fresh and not greasy at all. For our mains, we had the jerk chicken and the paella, and both dishes were incredible. The jerk chicken had just the right amount of flavor while the paella was rich, and perfectly seasoned. You can tell every ingredient is high quality and made with care. Highly recommend.
Came here for my birthday with a set dinner. Was amazing and very delicious! The drinks were perfect too! The first time I had it was a Togo order and that was really good too. I will have to come back for lunch and try the other dishes too! Service was very attentive too. Thanks for letting me make some art too hahaha
My husband and I ate here for the first time and we were both pleasantly surprised by the service. We are from the Midwest and have lived in California for 5 years now. We have never experienced good service in California as we did tonight at Oyo. The food was so flavorful, and it all came out really fast, but still fresh and hot. Our server was busy, but we never felt like we were really waiting too long. The drinks were great. I’m a vegetarian and I was able to order so many options that weren’t bland or boring vegetarian options. They were all amazing. I really liked the jerk Tofu and Street food doubles. I did order the vegan paella And it was good, but maybe not the best ever. I kind of felt like it didn’t have much saffron, but I still thought overall it was a wonderful experience.
Oyo is a favorite restaurant of ours. We love its South American and Caribbean flavors. Amazing drinks, delicious appetizers and main courses. Some of our favorites are jerk shrimp, oxtail, mutton curry, paella among others. They have recently expanded their space, it’s bigger and even better now. ❤️
Came here to celebrate! Eric and Lester treated my group with so much care and attentiveness. The ambiance fit the culture and took me right to the Caribbean's! Food: 10/10! Beef jerky hash was amazing! Also the plantain pancakes were the perfect amount of sweet and warm. The jerk chicken plate was delicious. Drinks: Get the prickly pear margarita
We visited Oyo on Father’s Day and had a mixed experience. The service was friendly and attentive, which we really appreciated, especially on a busy holiday. However, the food didn’t quite meet our expectations. While we could tell the flavors had great potential, a couple of the dishes were unfortunately overcooked and slightly burnt with bitter taste — most notably the half chicken and the octopus salad. This took away from what could have been a very enjoyable meal. It’s possible the kitchen was short-handed due to the holiday rush, which might explain the inconsistency. We’d be open to trying Oyo again on a less hectic day, as the menu seems promising and the atmosphere was nice. Hopefully next time the execution matches the quality of service.
The Vegan lentil bowl had fresh ingredients, but could use more seasonings. The Cobb prawn salad had tasty dressing, but the prawns were overcooked and needed more seasoning. The steak frite was cooked well. The pot roast was a star - highly recommended. The mushroom risotto (vegan version) was delicious. Roasted potatoes were well seasoned. Beet salad was a big hit. Fries were a crowd pleaser. Burrata appetizer could’ve used more seasoning. Brussel sprouts were a big hit.
It was ok. Nothing was particularly good but also nothing was particularly bad. The jerk chicken was really dry, same with the ribs. The mutton curry was also too chewy (but the flavor was really good). The oxtail was great, definitely the stand out dish of the bunch. The atmosphere is too busy for my tastes, but I think some people would enjoy the liveliness. I wouldn't come back here again, but I also didn't regret eating here.
I am not new to Oyo. But my last visit left me so disappointed. Had a reservation so getting a seat was not an issue at all. Plus it was not the peak time so it wasn’t that busy as well. Ordered, the jerk chicken patty. It was exactly like an empanada. It tasted good. I enjoyed it. Dhalpuri Roti with goat curry dipping sauce. The roti/bread was soft. But the goat curry dipping sauce was too salty. Although the server while taking the order didn’t even ask us if we wanted the goat sauce or the veg option. For the main course, tried the jerk pork shoulder, it was very very dry and tasteless. I couldn’t even eat half of it. It was overdone. The rice was so kinda overcooked. Did not enjoy at all. Guyanese cook-up rice - it was also a so so dish. More rice and coleslaw than the actual meat. Drinks were okay nothing special. The server did not even top up the water. We kept looking for servers but most of them did not make an eye contact and avoided doing their part. The only time the server was prompt when it was time for the check. The live music was too loud, making it difficult to have any conversation. Oyo used to be good but my recent experience didn’t make me happy or satisfied.
