If you're looking for fantastic Greek food and an amazing atmosphere you have to check out Magissa! The quality of the ingredients is outstanding; everything tasted incredibly fresh. I tried several things, each unique and delicious. I would recommend all of them! I had a newly-added smoked ricotta and beet appetizer, Mezze sampler platter, a perfectly seasoned lamb skewer and the Marinated Gigante Beans. All of which were so full of flavor, but the side of Gigante beans stole the show. A must try! I highly recommend Magissa for anyone looking for authentic, fresh Greek cuisine paired with stellar service and a lovely atmosphere. I can’t wait to go back and try more!

I walked in a little before closing and the hostess was able to accommodate us at the bar. The appetizers were authentically Greek and the main dishes did not disappoint. But what was exceptional was the dessert, a fusion of blueberries and tahini on an ouzo cake. I have never tasted anything like it before. It was truly an amazing night with a great atmosphere. Shout out to the bartender who tended bar and took very good care of us.

We popped in during their soft opening and were able to snag some bar seats. The bartender was quite helpful in guiding us through the Mediterranean wine selections. The decor was tastefully updated to reflect the Grecian menu. But most importantly, the food was phenomenal! We started with the mezze and a great tasting of spreads. For dinner, I opted for the Caesar salad with chicken, and my partner opted for the lamb gyro. The flavors were on point! We can't wait to make Magissa one of our regular establishments. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Wow! What a fabulous experience! Jake, our server, was 6 stars, no question. Chef Dillon prepared our lovely dishes, so fresh and delicious, and the best anchovies since Barcelona. Everything was awesome.

I will Never get enough Greek food hitting all the right dietary restrictions there is something for everyone. The opening of Magissa has truely reignited Portlands passion for Greek food. From the tahini Caesar, and mix m Pavlova is like sunshine streaking across your cheeks. With the tartness of lemon-aid but a a lightness that carry’s to the end of the meal. A set of bespoke drinks elevates the experience and with friendly bartenders to guide the more adventurous in exploring a new drink. Magissa brings together a tenured and tight team where the communication is key leaving the experience outstanding.

Wonderful taste of Greece right here in Portland. The food and waitstaff were amazing, and the people overall vibe was also great. I would just recommend getting there right when they open or expecting to wait given its much deserved popularity.

Such a cute, light, and tasty place. Haven't seen a Greek place do souvlaki tofu before, and it did not disappoint! Tried the ouzo lemonade and it was also a standout (but only if you like ouzo - not to everyone's taste!)

Beautiful restaurant, decor was spot on, and staff was attentive. We felt right at home is this adorable Greek restaurant. We happily shared and enjoyed the warm olives, halloumi, spanakopita, Paros chicken, Gigantes, and Horta. Prices are also reasonable comparatively. Plenty of off street parking in the area, although you may need to walk a few blocks.

My lady and I did the New Years menu and were not disappointed. Wonderful take on everything.

I am now obsessed with a cocktail called Italicus Spritz. Besides that, super friendly staff, fast service, authentic Greek menu and ambience - and a great place to share food with friends and family

I had the pleasure of attending one of the first nights of service here and have to say that Nancy and her team have created something truly magical. If you know her food truck “The Greeks of Peaks” then you know how good her food is. This restaurant puts it at another level. Everything is so delicious especially the chicken, the carrots, the dips, the dolmas, and the gigantes. Honestly I could’ve listed the whole menu but didn’t wanna get carried away. The space is also so beautiful. Can’t wait to come back.

Delicious food with several vegan options; other dishes can be veganized by removing cheese or cooking in oil instead of butter. Friendly staff; nice ambience.

Legitimately the best Greek food I’ve had inside or outside of Greece. Service was amazing, atmosphere was perfect. Food was extremely reasonably priced, especially considering the portions. Will definitely be back again

We went on a Monday to Magassi, and enjoyed ourselves so much. Everything was wonderful, from the waitstaff’s recommended specials and roasted carrots, right up to the Baclava desert! Great service, cozy atmosphere; Great evening!

Love this new spot! Delicious drinks & food. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. We were pretty cold sitting in the ac and without asking the staff noticed and turned it down for us.

I grew up going to a wonderful Greek restaurant in Upstate NY (shout out Symeon's - open since 1973!), and Magissa is the first Greek restaurant in Maine I have gone to that matches it. The food is delicious, and the wine selection is also nice if that's your thing. We will be back!

Came here with a large group, and our server was phenomenal! The brunch was really tasty. This place is also a great option for anyone with a peanut allergy because they don’t have any peanuts on the premises or cook with them at all.

Really enjoyed dinner at Magissa. Definitely a local place with relaxed and friendly vibe. Lamb gyro was delicious but the seared halloumi was alone worth making the trip. Will be back!

Came here on a girl's night with plans to see a concert at State theater. It was absolutely delicious. We got the mezza platter, a chicken and rice dish, and a side of potatoes with sauce. Everything was delicious but the chicken was the stand out. 😍 Our server was great and we will definitely be back.

What an awesome place for a dinner date! Everything was delicious, some of the best dolmas we've had, and we enjoyed that everything was shareable so we could have a variety. Staff was lovely, and the atmosphere was super cool. Would go back in a heartbeat if we are in the area.

I have ordered take-out from Magissa a few times. Always prompt service. The gyros, spanakopita, skewers, and salads are delicious. Highly recommend.

I was lucky enough to come during their soft opening. My goodness. Hands down the best food I’ve had in a while. Calamari was perfectly tender yet super crispy on the outside, and I’m still dreaming about that gyro—lamb was deliciously seasoned, pita was yummy and the perfect texture, and the feta + sauce combo!!! That sauce haunts my dreams and is beckoning me to return weekly. Service was also the perfect amount of attentive and everyone was so welcoming and genuinely lovely. Also, really really loved what they did with the space. It's beautiful, like a snapshot of paradise in Greece. I can't wait to go back.

Tonight (Saturday) was our first visit and we didn't know we needed to make reservations. Kind hostess put us on the wait list and got us in sooner than we expected (just enough time to get half pours at Bellflower!). My dirty negroni was divine! All the menu options were tempting so we got a little of everything - calamari, tzatziki, spanokopita, lamb skewer, htipiti, skordalia, and horiatiki (3 choice mezze) to share. Every single one was scrumptious! Servings sizes were perfect for the two of us - we were full and had no leftovers, with a tiny bit of room for dessert to share. Melopita with rhubarb was a perfect ending! Friendly, attentive service, fair prices, sweet views of the park from the big windows, and great energy in the space made it a true treat and we can't wait to go back! It lived up to all we'd been looking forward to, and even went beyond. A magical early summer evening!

We are from out of state and landed here based on our air bnb’s recommendation. We had been hiking and driving all day so not looking our best and being over tired, we were still welcomed with open arms and warm hearts. I had the BEST chicken gyro! The olives were a surprisingly nice touch. The freedom to eat it as messy as I wanted to, was nice. The asparagus was well cooked and garnished beautifully. The chicken Paros was a huge portion and enough for two if you wanted a plate to share. The wine was reasonably priced and paired well with the whole meal. Aside from the food, the server was attentive and seems to genuinely enjoy her job. Brandy, I believe. The owner came out to give us tips on our travels in the area and even some helpful Greek cooking tips! All in all, a lovely experience! Nancy, round of applause!! Your restaurant and team are amazing!

Have enjoyed 3 meals at Magissa . Each time wonderful and delicious and great service . The mezze plates are great once we tried 3 items and the other visit we went all in can’t go wrong with any of the choices . We loved the chicken and lamb gyros . The salads are wonderful . The lamb dinner and chicken were fantastic as well as the eggplant . We have enjoyed every item on the menu so fresh and the tastes are amazing . Love the drink menu . The desserts are also fabulous . I would be happy to eat here once a week so fresh and the service is perfect .

Finally made it in for brunch and so glad we did! Food was amazing and it’s a beautiful space. The hash browns are the best I’ve had in Portland. I’ll 100% be going back in for dinner ASAP. Don’t sleep on Magissa!

Amazing food and people! I got the stuffed eggplant and my partner got a lamb gyro. Both were amazing. I don't normally go out of my comfort zone at food places but this is the best place to do it. Everything was amazing.

Great Place in Bayside, the light from the sun gives the whole place a lovely med vibe with the Greek inspired signature cocktail list helping it along. It's hard to find great kebabs ("Giro", "Souvlaki") in Maine, but Magissa does it simply and well. It's a great spot for your Greek fix. Welcoming and friendly service, you will love it!

Nice food. Great vibe and friendly staff. Prices very reasonable too. Some negatives: limited entrees. Also, we went all in for 5 mezze. They were good but we ran out of pita. The lamb chops were perfectly cooked but lacked punch. Gyros were good but I’ve had better. Overall very competent traditional Greek food. Worth going but not a super memorable experience if you’ve had Greek food elsewhere.

I'm not saying Magissa has the cutest bathroom in all of Portland... but I'm also not not saying that. This place is lovely. The Mediterranean vibe they've created is unlike anything else in town. It's giving Greece, it's giving Turkey, it's giving Mediterranean! They've turned what's been a revolving-door space over the years into a cozy little spot that feels fresh and different, though there's definitely room for improvement. We visited on a Saturday night and thankfully had a reservation -- I wouldn't go without one. It's a small space in a super popular area, and it fills up fast. Our hostess was great; friendly, and welcoming. Our server, on the other hand, was fine... he just seemed unamused. The main drawback for me was the menu. I knew it was going to be limited, but it felt REALLY limited and honestly kind of generic. That said, what we did have was pretty good. We ordered the 3-mezze option, and like others have said, the portions are small -- but for $12, I wasn't mad at it. The grilled halloumi and dips were delicious, and they didn't skimp on the pita. Price-wise, Magissa is super reasonable, which was one of my favorite things about it. Most items are under $20, with a couple of splurge-y mains. I got the Paros chicken -- the chicken was soooo good, but I didn't love the sides it came with. The rice and brussels sprouts were a bit dry. My husband got the lamb gyro and really liked it. The only exception to "the prices being reasonable" was the baklava; it was overpriced for the quality. Another standout: the cocktails. We tried a couple, including a few from their limited-time Seaweed Week menu, and they were fantastic. All in all, I think Magissa is a fantastic addition to Portland's food scene. It's cozy, stylish, and trendy without feeling too...Boston? I'll definitely be back -- especially in the summer.

The food was fine, but I was expecting more. $21 for 5 sides in the mezze as you can see in the picture could have been more generous. The Greek salad had barely dressing, I would have expected to be generously seasoned with delicious Greek olive oil, and the romaine lettuce and tomatoes were bland specially costing over $20. I hope that the owners step it up with the quality and serving size as the food has potential. We ordered takeout, maybe it's better experience in person. I would not order again takeout.

Their food could use A LOT of improvement...maybe hire someone who's actually from the region? Great vibe and service tho. Probs won't come back.

Beautiful space and really nice/attentive servers but very disappointed in the food. The only thing good on our mezze platter was the pita - the htipiti was super salty. We split a lamb gyro which had 4 very very small pieces of lamb. Basically was pita with lettuce and tzatziki. We also split the eggplant and it was flavorless.

So-so. I moved to Portland from Manhattan. For me bottom line at a Greek restaurant is a killer Village salad (tomatoes, cucumber, feta, black olives, oregano), a great mezze plate, and a good whole grilled branzino, skin charred and flavored inside and out with herbs and lemon. The salad components on the mezze plate were tired. The taramasalata barely tasted like fish eggs (cod roe) and had an unpleasantly gummy texture. Mashed potato filler? Guys: fish eggs and olive oil. Easy. I make it better at home. The mashed potato and garlic dip, also on the mezze plate was ice cold., No branzino. Entrees were limited to dishes that be prepared in advance, frozen, defrosted, and reheated. Yes, ground nutmeg belongs in moussaka - but it shouldn’t dominate. And hold the salt, okay? In the end I felt like I’d eaten at a not great/not terrible Greek diner.

First of all, the service here was excellent. Our server was attentive, prompt, and friendly. The food was also good but not something you couldn’t find at a Greek chain restaurant for a much lower price and bigger portions. In fact, that’s my biggest complaint: the price and the portion. I spent $18 on a lamb gyro which was tasty but left me feeling hungry. I do understand that restaurants operate on thin margins, but I felt like it wasn’t really worth it after finishing my meal.

Magissa had mediocre Greek fare, but worst was how my meal was served: on a small, rectangular metal tray-like plate- all the food was set on top of a PAPER napkin inside the bottom of the tray. (I did not realize this at the time) Needless to say halfway through I realized that the paper had broken down and I had ingested it! When mentioned to the server to please tell someone about our disappointing experience, we just received our bill w/o an "I'm sorry", or "I mentioned this to the kitchen staff". Make damn sure your food doesn't come a top of a paper napkin if you do decide to eat there!

The hostess set the tone for dinner tonight. Was excited and then we got seated in the worst spot next to the door and hostess where everyone walks in. Nothing like trying to enjoy your meal with the freezing wind coming through every few minutes. When we sat down I asked if we could switch to the open table in the middle of the restaurant away from the door. This request was denied swiftly because she said the system would be too messed up if she were to switch us to a different table. Right, the people that have reservations after us will get their prime choice of seating. She could have just said I don’t know how to change seats but let me get my manager to see if they can help out. Server was nice, a little more training on the menu is still necessary as some of our questions about the menu were not answered. Finally, the gyro I had would have been great if there was more than 4 little chunks of lamb. I just felt like I was eating tzatziki and bread, very disappointing. The meat was also not your typical gyro flavor, and was a little tough to chew. That is the first gyro I’ve ever had that wasn’t tender and juicy. I don’t know what to say. No one went above and beyond, it was very meh and unaccommodating. I could have went to Lucky Cheetah tonight or Scales if I wanted an elevated experience. I was excited for tonight and expect better since we are in Portland after all.

The restaurant itself was very nicely decorated. My dirty martini with the feta cheese olive (singular) was good. Where do I even start with the food ….not only is it very unauthentic but lacks basic flavor. The “horiatiki” is suppose to be a salad we were served LITERALLY one piece of onion one edge of a tomato and 2 olives with our dips. It’s like they served us what was left over at the bottom of someone’s bowl. The pitas were empty even with the unnecessary edition of lettuce. Spent $100 dollars and left hungry and unsatisfied.

Huge disappointment. Meal started with a decent cocktail and got progressively worse. Small plates (whipped ricotta & pita, dolmas, kalamari) were the equivalent of what you might get at a grocery store deli, and entrees (lamb gyros, stuffed eggplant) were just bad. Like hospital cafeteria bad. The stuffed eggplant was devoid of actual eggplant flesh and the rice filling was very bland and poorly cooked. Unpleasant to eat. We had high hopes for this place but left feeling like all the energy had gone into the physical space and the menu had been an afterthought. The restaurant is also incredibly loud. Nice looking space but really hard to have a conversation. Staff was friendly but our server didn’t know what I meant when I asked how a particular cocktail was served.

D
Domenico Gurliacci

Tzatziki had only the flavor of dried herbs. Horiatiki looked like kefalotiri just way too much cheese in it. Lamb was good briami could use some tomato paste and more oregano. Kalamari could have been cooked a bit more. The prices were cheap but that might because lack of use of good olive oil.

Thomas Moulton

My wife and I showed up for dinner at 8:15 because the Website said they close at nine. You can’t make reservations here it’s walk in only. There were seven open tables and spots at the bar and the hostess was very unwelcoming and said they were full. Doesn’t seem like they care about their customers. They just care about getting out early. It seems like the staff is more interested in partying and having fun than serving their customers.

A
Andrew Spanos

I’m half Greek and the only thing good here was the employees were nice and welcoming and did their job. The colors look nice inside. But the food isn’t authentic or even within approximation of authentic, portions are cringy, it’s overpriced. To me calling this a Greek restaurant at all is an insult to Greek culture.

B
Büşra Özer

The atmosphere was nice, but unfortunately, the experience fell far below our expectations. The portions were extremely small and definitely not filling — we came hungry and left hungry. Considering the portion size and quality, the prices are way too high. Sadly, it’s not worth the money and we wouldn’t come back.

E
Emily Junan

We went there extremely excited to try “girl dinner” and were honestly left disappointed. We added chicken and lamb to it, and both were very bland. The lamb didn’t even taste like lamb and was seriously lacking seasoning. Even the Caesar salad didn’t taste like a Caesar salad!! My cocktail was also pretty bad, which just added to the overall letdown. Service was fine, but nothing special. For $130, the experience felt very mediocre and overpriced. We also tried the mezze, which came with pita, and it was just not good. The waitress offered us more pita in a way that made it seem like it was included, so we assumed it was complimentary — only to later see we were charged extra for it. That lack of transparency was frustrating. Overall, definitely not what we expected for the price.
