We had dinner and drinks at Riviera Cantina and everything was excellent from the service and hospitality to the food and the overall design of the space. It's located right on the water and has beautiful views of the ocean. The margaritas were on point and all the food we ordered was delicious. Our favorite menu item was the mini sopes appetizer, which I highly recommend. The owners and staff were super friendly and attentive. This place just has a happy vibe—we will definitely be back!

The ambience is just amazing! You are literally ON the water. From the windows, all you see is ocean. Very cool. The cocktails were delicious and the bar area is sectioned off from the restaurant so you can even use this restaurant as a place to grab drinks instead of just a sit-down dinner. The steak tacos are DELICIOUS. Like melt in your mouth steak. Yum! This is a new family staple for us. They were so welcoming to our toddler daughter and she loved it there too.

Great place. It's spacious, lively, well ventilated and the atmosphere is awesome. A friend and I went for lunch. We sat by the windows facing the ocean. They open up completely with a great airflow. I'm looking forward to trying them for dinner.

The spinach enchiladas are amazing. We have had those twice and will get them every time. The mushroom tacos were so good. The seabass fish tacos were yummy. Yummy yummy yummy, new South Bay hot spot with gorgeous views! 3:30pm reservation on Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend. Not too busy! Samson was a great server and made wonderful recommendations! Quesadilla was delicious, my brother wanted to try the chicken but after having the carne asada burrito I will do the carne asada next time because that steak is so flavorful! Carne asada burrito had 3 sauces but the mole was the best one! Again, that carne asada is very tasty. Lobster Fundido was very delicious as well, served with 3 corn tortillas but some of my party enjoyed it even more with the chips that were served!

I took half of my entree home as when a meal is truly satisfying with quality ingredients, one is satisfied sooner than later. They have a happy hour with 3.00 off appetizers and discounted drinks. Another time, I will try the Sangria. The guacamole appetizer was the perfect start to my meal with the complimentary chips and salsa. My Server was so helpful and helped me decide which enchilada and so glad I picked the lobster. The ocean view on the patio topped it all off. Looking forward to next time.

Great service. The nachos and margaritas were really good. Fajitas were not bad but I am going to try the burritos or tacos next time. My son really liked his tacos.

I really enjoyed this place! The food was delicious and the drinks.... Well the drinks did what they had to do 🙌🏾 Our server was super fun and friendly and made sure to make recommendations based on our preferences. Had to lower my mark on service though because both my order and my friend's came out incorrect. They were good about bringing out the additional items. The second mark came from them sitting a lady with a large dog next to us. I'm not an animal hater or anything but they could've at least checked to see if that was fine in the instance that I may have had allergies or anything-oh and the fact that the dogn was a breed that sheds A LOT (and some hair landed in my food 🥲). Other than that, I still highly recommend checking checking this place out.

Just opened this week. Staff Nice, friendly & helpful. We just got off a teacher whale watching boat, and other fish market restaurant had a very long line. This new restaurant was in the same parking lot and we decided to check it out. Servings were adequate, shrimp q good size. Delish for most of it.

The layout and service are excellent. The floor plan allows for a private conversation to be had with your party without feeling like you're in a restaurant with a bunch of people. The service was spot on, although understaffed, our waiter was attentive and kept things flowing. Only downfall was the flavors on food, very mild for my taste, some poor attempts made on classic cantina bocaditos. Cocktails were on point.

Very cool place with good food. We were seated in the bar one of the times (which prompted this review) when it was busier and it was very loud. The bar area is lacking any sound absorption whatsoever and has serious sound reflection issues due to all the hard surfaces. We could barely head each other and ended up leaving early.

The food is good, the beer is cold, great tequila options, but too much bird poo on the windows.

We enjoyed a lemon drop and a classic margarita, both of which were excellent. We sampled several dishes from the menu, and the portion sizes were reasonable, while the food was delicious. Pricing is slightly on the higher side, but considering the location and portion sizes, it feels justified. I would recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning.

Such a waste of money and food. Overall, the venue is perfect for all types of parties but their policy needs some adjustments and the chicken needs more flavor. These are the only two reasons I would not host a party/event at Riviera Mexican Cantina.

It was so dead in there I think there were only 10 people in the whole restaurant, and three of them we’re at my table. The food was pretty bland. I was invited I wasn’t paying so, no Harim no foul but if I were paying, I wouldn’t think it was so great, because it wasn’t. And getting inside is something else especially if it’s dark out, you can’t even see where you turn into the parking lot. Don’t forget to get your card validated. That would make me positively not want to come back if I had to pay for dinner and pay for parking.

We had a birthday celebration and it was the first time for all of us going to this restaurant. The service was very good (Mary was our waitress). The food was not very good. My husband had the rib eye and it was VERY salty, one of our guests had the sea bass and it was covered in sauce, another person had the chicken tortilla soup and it was just "okay". All of us were disappointed in the food and none of us will return.

Most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat in. No back support and you need to be a teen ager to comfortably sit in them. Excellent margaritas and the salsa was great. Also got no complaints about the food.

Riviera Mexican Cantina offers the usual food that would be seen in most mexican themed restaurants. The location of the restaurant is a great spot to enjoy scenery (Reservations to be seated outside for a better view) as you'll be given a nice ocean view. However, the quality and quantity of food offered at this restaurant is incredibly disappointing. The seafood is flavorless and rubbery such as the shrimp and lobster that I've experienced. If you happen to order a main course, be prepared to be given an abundance of very dry "mexican" rice to compensate for the portions given. This restaurant claims to be "mexican", but it is by far the worst mexican food I've tasted as the seasoning and sauces are mediocre at best. For anyone considering visiting here, please do not expect this restaurant to be your full mexican experience. I assure you that you'll find better mexican food elsewhere. I do hate to compare, but I find it necessary when a restaurant decides to promote their food by culture. The service itself is great as you will be greeted by kind employees, but do prepare for the long wait for your food. Disregarding the wait, the servers do their best to provide a great dining experience such as never letting your drink go dry. Nonetheless, I will once again say that the location is fantastic to sit down and drink, but changes are definitely needed in the quality of food if the quantity can't be changed for the sake of operating costs. In short, the food is just really bad.

The portions were large, and came with a serving of rice. However the carnitas were flavorless, and I can only describe it tasting like sandpaper. It was dry, unsalted, no notes of onion, garlic, or any flavor whatsoever. My husband ordered the bean and cheese enchiladas. The sauce was good, but the actual enchiladas were not. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items, but a good gauge of a good Mexican restaurant is how they get their carnitas right (or in this case wrong). It's unfortunate, we want to support local business and hope this place can make it, instead of folding like many of the restaurants in this area. I hope management takes note of the negative reviews and make improvements, but all I see are the exact copied and pasted message from the general manager on Google maps.

Food was sub par and that’s being generous. Chicken nachos tasted like canned chicken. horrible. Drink was fabulous and so was service and ambience.

Once again - not sure who is writing these 5 star reviews. This place is for the wealthy geriatric crowd who are looking for an afternoon drink. No one under 60 while we were here. Food is absolutely terrible - it's an offense to Mexicans to call it Mexican food. Prices on par with everything else in the area. With so many very good Mexican options in the area, I can't see any reason why you would eat here.

We were table of six on A Friday. View wonderful. Staff friendly, but not efficient. Restaurant is very noisy hard to have conversation Drinks took 30 minutes after ordering. Food took an hour after ordering. One of party found long hair in black beans. I wouldn’t go back on a week end

Tourist trap…very noisy.Before being seated i asked the hostess if there was vegan items and she said yes when in fact there was not.I had the guacamole without cheese but it was super spicey.Shame as it was well made.I had to order the chicken salad with chicken on the side but it was tasteless as no dressing.

Good food, nice view. My real complaint is the parking. It's not super clear when you arrive but there is a parking meter at the other end of the lot that you have to go to. I didn't see that and I got an $80 ticket for about a one hour stay.

BEAUTIFUL DECOR... that's it!! The food was SO BAD it doesn't deserve to be rated. The octopus taco was literally meat and tortilla. I had to request the additional ingredients that you see on the taco. The beans made me LITERALLY gag. They tasted like dirty dishwater and were not seasons at all. Horrible culinary experience in a gorgeous facility.

This is not an easy restaurant to review. Nice atmosphere, great view. Mediocre food with very good service. Bring cash, not a credit card. My wife and I dined here on 8/25 and we were charged 3x $38.15. We called the Redondo Beach Police and are disputing charges with our credit card company. Two people do not eat 3 meals in an hour's period of time.

I've been here 3 times. I really wanted to give it a good try before I left a review. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE. The drinks are great! The service, atmosphere and staff are excellent but the food is just SO BLAND! The rice and beans (and have a few choices dont have any flavor). I had the carnitas the first time and was very disappointed since it's one of my favorite dishes to eat. It wasn't crispy or full of flavor. I left most of my plate and wasted money that night. This time I got the crispy chicken tacos.. the chicken had no flavor.. you only got a spicy kick from the Chipotle sauce... and last but not least the birria tacos.. those were actually amazing! It's one of the few things on the menu I'd come back for.... the menu is not for me but great location, great atmosphere and awesome staff. They need new flavors and spices... I absolutely love Mexican cuisine and was so sad that this didn't live up to the hype.. I'd say come for happy hour for the drinks and great people and leave to go get real food somewhere else.

For $ 2.00 dollars I did not mention it, but the difference just came out of the tip because the bartender did not inform me of the differences in advance. Food was okay, no complaints there. I Will Not Be Back Though. * * * * To reply to the owners reply - I took 2 pictures of the menu where the prices are wrong. If I was handed an outdated menu from the bar tender, not my fault. When I locate them on my phone, they will be added to the review. Still not going to return to your cantina. * * * * *

Nice atmosphere ocean side. Unfortunately the food was horribly bland and the service was worse.

Food is horrible. Chips were floury, thin & tasteless. Salsa tastes like tomato paste and nacho sauce tasted like bar-b-que sauce.

My husband and I visit Redondo beach often, we like to try new places to eat when in town. Never have I ever left a negative review. Today, we went in at around 1:30, it wasn’t busy at all and we opted to sit at the bar. The bartender was very cold, slamming items, we just ordered drinks and queso blanco to start off. After the vibe we just opted to leave. She must have been having a bad day, very negative and rude to the customers there at the time. 🙁

Would give this lower but I can't. FIrst off, somehow my drinks came out before my water, it took 20 minutes for the margaritas to come out, we had to get a different server for the waters. Second, the food took over an hour to come out and their excuse was that they were busy. Mind you there was no one waiting for a table so they were not busy at all, the staff is just poorly trained. Third, the queso at this establishment is one of the worst things I put into my mouth. It is simply $15 store bought cheese with no additional seasoning or flavor, DO NOT ORDER THE QUESO!!!!! (if you ordered it and now you are looking for reviews on it you should have read this first, sorry pal you're a victim, I'm right there with you.) I was with a few different people and all of our orders were incorrect in some capacity. We also somehow received 3 different checks when it was time to close, one of which had someone elses card and information in it. Overall an absolute disaster of an experience, for over $100, very disappointed. This is my first review EVER, which should speak volumes, and last time coming here.

Poor management. Came in today to check out the new location and have just a drink at 2:30. The hostess turned us away saying the kitchen was too busy, the restaurant was 1/3 full and the bar 1/2 full. We explained once again that we only wanted a quick drink, no food. After checking with the manager she said they can’t take walk ins, even for one drink. We own a restaurant and would never turn a customer away, especially when seating was abundant. Big miss as I heard her turn a few other parties away, I guess they don’t need the business? Great location, I hope service improves.

My friend and I really like the Riviera Mexican Grill in South. Redondo village so we thought we'd tried their new location for happy hour. We sat outside as the bar was full. It was a bit chilly and Extremely loud the service was lousy. Menu was much smaller than at the other location. The food was mediocre. We tried the lobster queso which was pretty much tasteless and only had a few small pieces of lobster. The quesadillas we ordered as our entree were not very warm. They were much smaller than the ones that the other restaurant serves and not nearly as filled. The portion of guacamole that came with them on the side was not even a teaspoon. We wanted our appetizer first but they brought everything out together. My drink arrived about 15 minutes after they served our food and it was a simple beer. Found it to be very expensive even with the happy hour discount... Won't be going back. Also they remodeled this location but they left the original bathrooms which need updating.

This was my second visit after having a great first experience. My date night with hubby was ruined by this restaurant. I ordered spinach enchiladas with rice and beans. When I cut into my first bite of the enchilada, the smell was something I couldn’t describe. I decided to eat it anyways and sure enough, the spinach was sour. I could no longer eat my meal. I decided to eat off my husband’s plate. He ordered a burrito, but replaced the carne asada with chicken. The chicken was just as disgusting as the sour spinach. It tasted at least a day or two old. We called the waitress over to discuss our disappointment with our stale and sour food. She was extremely accommodating and asked if we wanted to exchange the items for something else. Now, why would I want to continue eating there after receiving sour enchiladas and stale chicken? “No thank you,” was my response. She then asked if I was going to eat my rice and beans. Again, my response was, “No!” She took a large portion off the final bill, but that gesture was not enough for me to return. Preparation and safe food practices are top priorities for me when I visit a restaurant. Riviera Mexican Cantina received a FAIL and I will never return.
