We had a great lunch at Harry’s Hofbrau in Redwood City on a Saturday afternoon. It was definitely busy, but the line moved quickly, and the wait wasn’t bad at all. My husband and I both got the prime rib, which was cooked perfectly—tender, and flavorful. Our 10-year old had the roast beef sandwich, and he enjoyed it so much that he nearly finished the whole thing! There’s plenty of seating, so even with the crowd, we had no trouble finding a comfortable spot. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, making it a great place for a relaxed meal. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and would absolutely come back again!

Great food. Pretty much the only way i get home cooked meals. This place has so much to offer any appetite, my favourite is the turkey dinner. its like Thanksgiving anytime i walk through that door.

Fantastic meal....we picked the tri-tip.. done perfectly. Chocolate cake was so good.

A great bay area classic. Can never go wrong with their turkey dinner. Tons of comfortable seating and attentive staff that goes the extra mile. They also have a great beer selection

M
Max Kaehn

They have patio seating out back for people fond of fresh air and the staff can turn on a heater if it's cold out.

Loved it! I was so happy to stumble upon Harry's near our hotel. All the hof braus osd near where I live so I was excited to show my girlfriend. So many beers on tap, I almost lety food get cold deciding. Will definitely go back... Probably tomorrow.

Cafeteria style experience, wait in line, get your tray and pick your food. It's a cozy place and the food quality is really good. Homestyle cooking, highly recommended.

Outstanding food as always. Patio dining was great and enjoyable. I love the open face turkey sandwich with dressing! It's amazing and one of my favorites. The only sad thing I was too full for dessert!

Always love Harry's! I've been coming here for years and can't get enough of it. They have a nice location, great atmosphere, and above all delicious food. The prices are good and there are a ton of unique and delicious options to choose from. The bar is also very nice, with a great selection of beers on tap and comfortable seating all around. Check it out and if you're not sure what to get, you can never go wrong with a classic french dip.

Plan to be in a big line on weekends. But its worth the wait. Very large space for family seatings. Food was basically very good and well served, cafeteria style.

I have been a Harry's fan since the 80's. The food..service..atmosphere is excellent. Always friendly staff..great prices and the food is great! Highly recommended to anyone with a craving for delicious food and great service!

Oh my God! Since they closed the one in Santa Clara I've been missing it, well today I went, and I ate my favorite meal, French dip, mashed pots and a salad. It was amazing!!! My husband got the turkey dinner, also amazing!!! GO, DON'T WAIT!!!

Great atmosphere, great food, fair prices. Not many eateries like this left. Feels like "the good old days".

Harry's is a place everyone should go to while in Palo Alto. You go down the line and order what you want and pay at the end. They had eight carvers and drink people so there is no waiting for food. Again I had the turkey dinner, I noticed that they have tri-tip now. I'll try that next time. Also, 28 beers on tap, 12 or 16 oz.

V
Veronica Jones

Food is always hot and ready. Taste more like home cooking from Grandma's house. I love this place.

W

The staff is always incredibly nice and helpful. It's about $20 for a dinner option, but they give so much food! I always end up bringing home left overs and have it for lunch the next day.

Old schol cafeteria restaurant. One of the few remain remaining in the United States today. Large portions. Good friendly service. Convenient location, with a generous parking lot. The theme is German, but the food is all American. Highly recommend recommended.

Solid food and amazing atmosphere for families. We got the turkey dinner and the roast beef dinner. The turkey was juicy and gravy went well with it. Roast beef with extra sauce goes well with the dinner roll.

Omg, we lived in RWC for 3 years and never stopped by. We thought it’s one of those overrun, loud touristic restaurants. No, it isn’t! It’s a buffet where you get for $18 a 3 course meal where I chose the Roastbeef with a real potato salad and mashed potatoes. The salad from the salad bar included and on top I chose a chocolate cream pie. For 2 people including tax, we paid $55. Where do you get this quality and amount of food in the bay? Military and senior discounts. The staff was super friendly and I think they have plenty of returning customers. We will be back soon! Thanks

H

Good old American classic, hard to come by these days. Similar to Tommy’s joint and Lefty o’douls (RIP) but better in my opinion. Served Cafeteria style. I Got the tri tip dinner special and it’s a hefty portion. The chicken leg and turkey also looked good. The salad options were surprisingly abundant and fresh. Typical dinner roll and dessert options (think classic pies). There’s also complimentary ice cream at the end if you ask for it. Be sure to tip the wait staff.

Harry's Hofbrau has the best mashed potatoes and gravy. You can always expect a hearty and delicious meal here, I wish they were still back in their old location on Saratoga especially since I moved, I'm even closer to their old location but as I understand it, they owners of the lot wouldn't let them renew their lease so they had to find a new spot. Well it's been about 3 years since the last time I've had their food. Luckily , I was in the area at Redwood City and saw their new spot so I had to swing by just for mashed potatoes and gravy

We were in the area and got curious about this restaurant that's been here since 1954. We ordered the corned beef and the tri-tip. We lined up to order and then sat at a vacant table. The place is huge with lots of tables and high ceilings. Parking is not a problem. The food we ordered had generous servings, and they were surprisingly flavorful and the meat cooked right. While they do not have waiters, friendly staff were going around asking if everything was okay. We were glad we tried this place and would come back!

I come here as often as I can when I visit “home”. Love to come and have our carved Turkey sandwich on a roll with dip. They have a great selection of hofbrau food. Wish there was one in Solano County. A definite must visit.

S

Harry's Hofbrau has always had a special place in mine and my familys hearts. We have been going to eat or take out here for almost 50 yrs. Sadly, the one near my house, in Saratoga CA closed a few years ago leaving a huge hole in our heart. So, when we need a fix, we drive over to the Redwood City one and fill up. You cannot get fresher or tastier food than what you get here. Freshly roasted beef and turkey everyday, with yummy mash and gravy, and dont get me started on that tender and creamy stuffing for the turkey. We LOVE the salads too with the freshest ingredients and dressings. YUM.

K

Harry's Hofbrau is a genuine German food experience that you must go to. I had the tri tip with genuine mashed potatoes and gravy and a tasty macaroni salad. After dinner I sampled a true German imported Hefeweizen with a squeeze of lemon for true authenticity. The best beer I have ever sampled. You will live walking around the place too seeing all kinds of carved caricatures and steins and pictures. Located in Redwood City, CA.

A

Had a great experience here. It's a classic American cafeteria with tons of seating and a nice ambience. Portions are huge, fairly priced and tasty. They are very gravy forward. There are employees who will check in to see if you're doing well or need anything if you dine in. Overall, loved the clean dining area and the great food. Will definitely come back!

R
Robert Gamez

Harry's is a great place the food is like a buffet if you don't know what hofbrau is the prices are amazing and the portions are just wonderful in these times of skipping the restaurants to cook at home. Well let's get going to Harry's because it is worth every cent. The tri tip sandwich I posted was like 11.00 dollars and there is so much more like salads and desserts again follow my lead you will not be disappointed.

I loved eating at Harry's. They have two locations. Both are very affordable and delicious food. I have been bragging about them for years to my husband and friends. So he shared the day with me and I introduced him to the San Francisco area Harry's. He was very pleased.

Come here for generous servings of delicious food at reasonable prices and friendly service! I recommend the Reuben sandwich, which came piled high with corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on Rye for only $13.24! They also have a full bar with lounge, plenty of comfortable seating, and charming decor. There's even a full suit of armor on display!

It's been 30+ years since I've been to Harry's. It was just as good today as it was back in the day. Fantastic Prime Rib!!

J
Jonathan Vargas

I've always heard of this place and finally decided to stop by. The staff were all working extremely hard and still had the time to explain the menu. The food was phenomenal, to say the least. The rotisserie chicken I got was moist and bursting with flavor. Honestly, shocked good food like this was so affordable. I'll be making this my regular lunch/dinner spot whenever I can stop by.

Its Harry's. Great cafeteria style food. I got prime rib, my wife got turkey, her son got roast beast. Great prices. Love this place. Gonna go back for sure.

My favorite treat to myself is a Corned beef sandwich. This time, I got extra meat and told them to keep the fat on it. With Aju on the side. It was colder than I would have liked, but It took me 45 minutes to eat it, savoring every bite!

H

Harry's Hofbrau is definitely a legendary restaurant in Redwood City. Hofbrau is an American cafeteria-style restaurant concept, and I feel like it's a place I would have frequented in college. The food was delicious overall, reasonably priced, and the standout for us was the prime rib, which was juicy and served with a side of mushrooms.

K
K Lathan

Met up with friends here and glad I did. I have not been to Harry’s in awhile and boy have I missed out. Looking forward to going back. It is very popular for dinner so gauge your arrival for parking as well. All the food seems to be freshly prepared as our group was very happy with what we ordered. The vegetable medley was super good. And the beer and wine selections were surprising! I will make sure to save room for dessert next time as the chocolate cake I was able to taste was exceptional in my opinion. I will try and add photos the next time I go.

My husband came to Redwood City on a business trip a couple years ago and loved it so much she came here two nights in a row! Needless to say, I’ve been keen to make a trip. The food and atmosphere absolutely did not disappoint — I got the tri tip dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, a side salad, and a Pliny the Elder to wash it all down. We loved sitting at the bar and will definitely be coming back.

J
Jordan Mcmiller

Traditional American cuisine. Perfect to cure that craving for thanksgiving when it’s not quite that time of year. Turkey leg is fall off the bone and you can never go wrong with mashed potatoes and gravy. They aren’t doing anything crazy or innovative just serving up quality hearty meals. A staple in the region.

R
Rômulo Santos

Very nice hof brau place. Food is good and hits the spot if youre craving good and well made american food. I had their roast chicken and their roast beef dinners, both very yummy. I still gotta try the desserts but Im confident food wont disappoint you. Also the rolls are 10/10 delicious.

C

An cafeteria style dinner place. Once through the door, you see a line of people waiting in line to order food. You have to grab a tray and tell the counter staff what you want for the main dish then your moved down the line to get your sides and desserts. You can see all the food they serve and all looked delicious. I ordered from the carvery and got turkey with gravy, stuffing, mashed potato and gravy, bread and butter, pesto pasta and water. All under $20 dollars. Turkey tasted good with the gravy. The pesto pasta was freshly made and had sundried tomato. Plenty of seating area and place is very cozy. I'm gonna say lots of people who eats here are regulars. I would definitely eat here again.

L
Lucas Moua

Damn good eating cafeteria style. I come here to get my turkey leg fix. Food is available to you super quick, but the lines are even quicker. So be ready, and diligent in knowing what you want to order as to not hold up the line.

K

Excellent values. Food is great and great value in this area. Atmosphere is a dining hall like setting. You get trays of food at counter then pay at cashier. You see the food that puts on your plate before you pay.

I'm so happy we found this gem!! Our first time but will not be our last!! First of many !! The food was amazing! Line was long, but the wait was not long at all . We have ben looking for a hofbrau style restaurant for quite some time now, so coming from Fresno was a risk we are glad we took on Harry's. Huge portions of lots of fresh home cooked options you will be stuffed, so come ready to pig out! Also, expect to be in total food coma 😉 staff was amazing from the greeter, to the line cooks and the wait staff everyone was very helpful & patient. Thank for having us Harry's Hofbrau 🤍

S
Susan Kranzke

Harry’s Hofbrau is excellent. Staff is friendly and helpful. Food is fantastic. I usually get the senior turkey dinner because the regular plate is too big for me to eat. Turkey is moist. I get all dark meat. Stuffing, mash potatoes and beans to die for. Get the gravy on the side because I like to control where it runs too! With the senior meal you get a drink and either ice cream or jello. Roast beef is delicious too. I have had almost everything they serve. Go! You will love it!

D
David Wright

In general, the only people who go to Harry's Hofbrau are (like me) over 65 and have been going to Harry's for decades. This is not cuisine in any respect. It's more like old-fashioned home style cooking. The meats are very good, many of the sides are, too. Staff is very friendly and efficient (no surly, disinterested teens). The place is always clean and welcoming, though I think the furnishings are unchanged since my first visit with my wife's family ~1982. You should definitely go at least once. Restaurants are having a very tough time and I'm not sure how long Harry's will be around.

Y
Yvette Soubirous

Although there was a long line, like we had never seen before, food and atmosphere were great. I ate the special, which was a moist turkey leg with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was delicious❣️😋 I came with my family. There were 6 of us. Dad found a table as we walked in. It's somewhat cafeteria style, serve yourself. You push a tray and select items you want, which they put on your tray.

Great place for comfort food. You definitely will not leave hungry. It's been there since 1954. I really don't know of any other restaurant that the doors have been open for that long!

It’s been nearly 17 years since my last visit, and I’m delighted to see that the restaurant has maintained its exceptional quality and consistency over time. Every dish is prepared with fresh ingredients and a thoughtful respect for classic recipes. I came here with my son, and we both truly enjoyed the experience. We have no doubt that we’ll be coming back very soon. My only suggestion would be for the staff to be a bit kinder and more attentive, perhaps offering a small welcoming smile.

As close to east coast diner as we have found in CA. Large, hearty meals that taste great! Meats are carved when you order. Something for everyone. Very accommodating on special requests. Soups could use a refresh. Pea soup is excellent, but Manhattan clam had no clams. Many soups are cheese or cream based.

Whenever we have a chance to grab dinner here, we do. The food is always fresh and delicious. The selection is good and rotates. Open face turkey and turkey enchiladas are favorites. The servers are helpful in making choices. Plenty of seating with water stations available.

12/1/2025: The Christmas decorations are up. I didn't see a tree though. There was hella traffic coming from SF to RWC. By the time I got to Harry's, it was 8pm and no line. My order was a Danish beef steak (minced meat patty) $16.89, available on Monday nights. It felt like a Salisbury steak in American terms. I wonder what made it a Danish steak. This dish came with a tangy tomato tasting sauce with mushrooms and onions. It was easy to chew as it was minced meat with less fat than a hamburger patty. It tasted fine. It came with a dinner roll, mash potatoes and a side. In my case, I selected coleslaw. Original review: Harry's Hofbrau is awesome. It is a cafeteria type of restaurant. It reminded me of a better version of the old Tad's Steakhouse's on Powell's St. My meal tonight was a tri-tip steak dinner $23 and a Manhattan clam chowder $6.75. Both were OK. The tri-tip steak was perfectly cooked medium rare. My sides were the mash potatoes and mushrooms. The mash potatoes were drenched in gravy. The soup had a strong tangy tomato taste. Well done everyone at Harry's Hofbrau.

My favorite Hofbrau restaurant. I love the oven roasted turkey and corned beef. It’s cafeteria style, where you get a tray and go through line to pick your food. I like being able to see all of the meats, entrees and daily specials. You’ll end up having a hard time deciding and wanting more than one thing. They have a variety of hot and cold sides, salads and desserts. Truly a unique experience.

The food portion is great and so is the taste. We got Ruben and Prime Rib, it’s so tender for the rib and well seasoned. The butter grilled bread of Ruben is 10/10 crunchy and tasty. Highly recommend mushrooms for sides, juicy savory and tender. (The vegetables just like Costco frozen vegetables “nah”) The vibe of the bar is nice, chilling and no pushing sell for anything. Dining in here just like go to the same old place you like to have your comfort food even it’s my first time here.

👍 Cafeteria style : Line up - order and choose - pay - find your favorite table. Waiters are attentive to help bring your tray(s) and etc. Remember to leave a tip on the table. 👍 Traditional American comfort food, with that comforting flavors. Near extinct, please support this business more often and keep it going. 👍 Super friendly services. Cozy seating areas. Prices are the most reasonable. 💖 Def a gem in the Bay Area!

Harry's is the premier establishment in its class within the Bay Area. I have been a patron of this diner since the era of Benny. Benny would often inquire, "Are you hungry, or are you Bachelor hungry?" Despite being a bachelor for 35 years, I still maintain my patronage. Simply proceed with your decision. Just Do It!

If you are 65+ years old this is your dream restaurant. Buffet of goodness, you can have Thanksgiving every day of the year.

Go with a friend and try everything! The desserts are delightful, but be prepared to take yours home in a box because there are so many delightful main and side dishes. There is something special about this rare cafeteria style dining... being able to pick out your food AFTER you've had a chance to see it. And then..... They have a nice spacious sports bar offering quite a few beers on tap🍻. Enjoy!

Fantastic place for an inexpensive meal. The hofbrau is a cafeteria in disguise. Harry's Hofbrau has always had a clean interior, counter and bar. The food is good old comfort food. Nothing fancy nor exotic. Just serviceable meat and potatoes with a semi-germanic twist. Harry's has a large selection of beer on tap and in bottles. A good place for a quick bite.

Great service but the food was too saucy for me. I guess that’s the American way but it’s not for me. It was also a little more expensive than I expected.

Update at bottom the food was decent, never been here before, my cousins wanted to come here, inside was very dark and dingy definitely had that old school smell to it food at the counter looks very sloppy and all the containers were very messy the place is very outdated they definitely need to revamp their ideas , all the employees are very nice they have a full bar didn't realize that thank you for taking the time to read my review 😎 The bartender was super friendly and very respectful i loved that. Most people that come here are "white" nothing wrong with that but redwood city is know as little Mexico, so kind of disappointed in not seeing one Latin person hanging at the bar, mostly white old men. Non say hi, ive been to so many bars every one says hi

A very traditional American restaurant. Hints of German roots of course. The food is kinda trashy but in a good way. I didn't grow up with this type of cuisine so it's always a revelation to me when I eat there.

Harry's Hofbrau in Redwood City is savory goodness, with friendly and courteous staff that serves large portions with a smile and refillable drinks at your table. The ambiance is similar to that of another Hofbrau more closer and near to my hometown of Sacramento, CA. So with that said, similar food items with daily specials listed at this cafeteria style restaurant with the extra service of clearing the dishes and eating utensils from the table. One of the food selection today (Oct 25th) is Turkey Ala King on a bed of White Rice. To be honest, when I seen the person that ordered this dish, the mound upon mound of Rice and the Ala King was generously and enormous. Looks like I would get it, but I had that Half Backed seasoned chicken in mind. The dinner came with a bread roll, and a salad of your choosing (from house salad, Caesar, macaroni, carrots & pineapple and Jello fruit salads. All in all the experience is great and give a 5 stars on service and product. Additionally, this place provides Regular drink loving straws (which I appreciate) rather than most Bay Area places providing paper straws. As for the official rating will have to be 4 stars for the fact that this establishment doesn't support armed fources, active military or Veterans with a discount. Now, what other Hof Brau establishment has a military and veterans discount with the same kinds of foods serves.... Sam's Hofbrau off of Watt Avenue in Sacramneto. They officially get a 5 stars Review.

I was upset because we drove from San Jose to have their delicious turkey leg dinner for my birthday and they did not have anymore turkey legs. 😕 But their food is always good.

Our 1st time here. Nice old school place with lots to look at. The food was good, but not great. Prices are good and poetion size is regular. Pie was very good. Definitely worth a visit.

Have eaten at this Harry's many times over the years. The food has always been really good! Today, my wife and I had a roast beef sandwich and a turkey sandwich, and the sandwiches have lots of meat. You won't be hungry after eating a sandwich! They have comfortable booths for dining. There's also a large separate bar area, and they have lots of various types of beer and alcohol. We recently went for lunch and the food was still really good. We had a French Dip and Turkey dinner with all of the trimmings.

This place is such a comforting restaurant that oozes tradition with their cafeteria style dining and classic decor. It reminds me of Tommy’s joint in SF but down on the peninsula. I had the prime rib which is a Saturday special. For the price, it did not disappoint. You will definitely walk out of this place with a full stomach and some cash left over in your wallet. Everything was reasonably priced. Great for families as well!

The best roast beef! I get roast beef sandwiches most of the time because it's so hard to get good roast beef sandwiches in my end of the Bay. It's a cafeteria style restaurant so set your expectations accordingly. The food is really good and diverse. The brats and sauerkraut are great, the corned beef and cabbage is tasty, roast turkey and trimmings available on the regular. You can order Thanksgiving bird, stuffing, and gravy for a lower stress holiday. You collect your food and find your own tables. We like to sit outside at the sport's bar. Nice people, good food, at reasonable prices.

We celebrated a birthday there. The portion of roast beef seemed a bit small, ( The roast beef was thinly sliced, so it felt a bit light in portion.)but it was delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely. The older waiter was very attentive and thoughtful. I don’t usually like tipping, but his service made me feel good, so I gave him a little extra when we were leaving.

This.place offers a real public service -- good food at a very reasonable price and a good community feeling about the people who come here and work here. Rotisserie chicken is my favorite dish with rice (not sticky), a tiny bit of turkey gravy on the side and tender broccoli. The senior meal version is just a smaller portion of meat and maybe less of the side item for about $15; full size is still under $20 with tax. (Estimate: check prices.) Another favorite is the roast pork, but they don't always have it and it's not in the senior meal category. Many folks rave about the beef (prime rib or roast beef) and lots of gravy with mashed potatoes, but I prefer my beef more cooked than most and the last time I requested an adjustment, I was told that service was not available. Close your eyes when you pass the desserts. Cherry pie is the best.

Carvery style cafeteria. Where you can get sandwiches, hot plates of roast beef, pastrami, turkey, corned beef and different items depending on the time of year, like schintzel, brats and sauerkraut during October Fest. Basic sides like beans, Mac & cheese, steam veggies. Worth the trip, definitely miss the Saratoga location that was closer to home. Does get busy, especially closer to Thanksgiving and especially St. Patrick's day. Went for Thanksgiving and it was good turkey, ham, stuffing mashed potatoes & gravy, roll, salad, cranberry, glazed carrots and pie. The line was long but it was nice not having to cook on Thanksgiving this year!

The roast beef was great. Turkey was a bit dry. I won't get the Ceasar salad again, there wasn't hardly any dressing, it was bland lettuce. Friendly staff, I'd go back and try something different

Love coming to Harry’s Hofbrau for a homey meal. We enjoy the pastrami and tri tip here but thought the roast beef was too chewy. Mashed potatoes here are amazinggg!! Line can be long but moves quickly. Good value for the price, and they have a good beer selection

I'm from SF and back in the day I used to love going to Chicken Coops on Taraval. That was the "go to" hof brau spot, before they closed down. But today I tried Harry's Hofbrau and this might be my new go to spot! They had the game going on, the place was bustling, loved the atmosphere and ambiance. The food hit the spot, the gravy was a little bit too floury, I would get it on the side next time, I had the turkey dinner and overall it home!

No warmth. Very difficult to understand the servers. They rush you like cattle. A few smiles and speak slowly and loudly for us seniors will go a long way! And the servings are way too big. Quality over quantity would have been better.

Went for early dinner and food was not as tasty as the past. The side of mushrooms was a bit sour and the Waldorf salad was not well done. I'm a bit disappointed was expecting a better visit. The cashier needs a bit more training also.

I found hair in my pastrami, very disgusting, they handled my complaint with no respect and acted like it was my fault. They have no more class as they used to. They have gone down the tubes, so sad, used to be a great place but no more. Won't be going back. Disatiffied customer.

3 Ham dinners, 1 turkey dinner and a Roast beef sandwich was ordered. It was mine and my twin sister's Birthday. We loved Harry's Hofbrau on the border of San Jose and Santa Clara. We were saddened when it closed down a couple years ago... so we were excited to find and eat at this Harry's in Redwood City. We were disappointed! All the plates were lukewarm or cold! Ham had rubbery texture to it.. maybe because it was last of the ham slab. No flavor or taste to the food. No salt or pepper on tables or given. Utensils were dirty. It was like eating in a cafeteria... not a restaurant. At the serving counter... The meat server was older gentleman. He was quite nice and inviting. The other larger lady serving sides was rude... rushed us thru the line. Semi slammed plates and stuff that we asked for on to the tray. She got really upset when we asked her for some butter for the hard staled rolls. She kinda threw 2 butter pats on the plate. It was not too busy in the so called restaurant. Being that the food was not too appetizing and service was rude... we are on the fence about going back, although we would like to give them another chance... honestly...don't know. Maybe we held it up on a higher standard since the old Harry's Hofbrau in SJ/ Santa Clara was so good to us. Wondering how they can vary so much in taste and quality. The pics show the amount of ham we got. This was 2 plates of the 3 Ham Dinners we purchased. Pieces (served by a tall man in late 30s or 40s seemed like a manager and was dressed up differently) vs. FULL Slices. (served by the nice rounder older gentleman) We were NOT impressed by the Ham. Waste of money. The turkey looked good. The plate was eaten. Gave 1 star. Roast Beef was ok. It was eaten only because HE was hungry.

Went here once a week for the last three years, but it's hard to justify going back. The portion sizes keep getting smaller, and I can't afford to pay $25 for four bites of turkey and a diet coke. The staff is extraordinarily industrious and friendly, and service is usually pretty quick. Unfortunately, after walking away hungry one too many times, I won't be returning.

I came here because of the good reviews, but I was really disappointed. The meat had no flavor at all, like it wasn’t seasoned. The salad tasted plain. On top of that, the person who helped us was rude and didn’t seem to care. Overall, the food and service were both bad. I don’t understand why this place is rated so highly. I won’t be coming back.

One may think this would be an a la Carte German eatery. WRONG. The limitations of the menu inhibit any culinary interest in German food you may once have had. You cannot order meats or sides individually and the food is far from any German influence. Beer does not come in steins and the quality of meat is subpar. Go here to be let down.

Discuting food an service My granddaughter didn't want the rice and beans just the enchilada and the cook slopped the rice n beans on the plate and threw the enchilada on top and hand it to her on the tray instead and told her in a very angry voice that rice n beans comes with the plate very rude very mean my 10-year-old granddaughter could not eat it it was disgusting she wanted the enchilada with the olives on it and he would not give her the one she wanted the worst service I've ever had in my life my carrot salad was sour it was rotten when I ate it it tastes horrible even my daughter tried it it was old and soured ..The roast beef had a very horrible rancid taste and I wanted Endcut well done and he wouldn't give it to me and said they don't have it when they did have it !!!!! Also he only put 3 small slices on my dinner plate when I asked for a few more pieces they charge me $7.00 never smiled gave me such a frightening look Like chut u an take what I give u !! He was having an ugly day I've been going to Harry's hofbrau since the 80s most of my life in San Jose was so different the food was awesome I believe the changing times has an affect on service and the quality of food

On Thanksgiving we waited 2 hours outside early since we knew how long the wait was from previous years. We ordered our food but there seemed to be some confusion with the plates. Every employee that talked to us was very kind. What seemed to be the manager of the restaurant, an older taller fellow with short white somewhat curly hair, showed such unprofessional tone with us and his employees regarding our order. I clearly overheard him saying "Just give them the cold food in the back since well be out" in such a rude degrading tone towards us and his employees. We where one of the firsts customers that got here, we showed up at 9:50 and there was around 8 people ahead of us. You can clearly see how uncomfortable everyone, the customers, the workers and my family felt. If your customers are waiting hours to pay for your food, you shouldn't treat them nor your workers like that.

This was the worst meal I've had in at least 5 years, possibly ever. I got a carved roast beef sandwich and a cup of the "Soup of the Day". Beef barley. I'm pretty damned sure the soup was out of a can. The roast beef was unseasoned. The dudes serving up my sandwich offered to dip the top of my sandwich in au jus. I accepted. There was no flavor of anything resembling au jus at all. They might as well have dipped it in water. I literally smothered my sandwich in salt and cream horseradish sauce so I could finish it because I'm not a quiter. The beer was the best part of the meal. There were plenty of options on the tap and the atmosphere was good. People seemed to be enjoying themselves and the food. I'm not sure how. I assume this place is in business because it seems like there's plenty of room to sit down, good drinks, and the regular patrons have no pallet. If you appreciate good drinks and a good atmosphere, this might be your spot. If you appreciate good food, go somewhere else.

C
Cobra

The guys at the carving station stand there with an attitude, they won't even say hello, even if there's no line. Very uncomfortable like you're at a prison cafeteria. Someone give these people depression pills, teach them that you have to just be friendly like you're inviting someone to your house for dinner. Aside from the mega significance in ego for putting food on a plate, the mac and cheese had turmeric in it.. probably thought that the cheese powder was turmeric powder, both being the same color. Maybe the salad was kind of wilty, but it was the end of the day. The gravy and turkey and mashed potatoes were very good, the stuffing was a little sweet and weird texture like Play-Doh. The lady who took my plate at the salad station snapped it away from me, I jolled back and said excuse me. She smiled. I think the passive aggressive thing is just part of the culture here, there's no way the manager would allow these people to be here if his personality or her personality wasn't condoning this.

C
Charles Sullivan

It was absolutely disgusting, we went because they seemed to have good reviews, and we were in the area from outta town. My wife got the meatball sub and I got the roasted chicken with rice, turkey gravy and roll. One bite of each and it was an absolute hell no, we tried each other's also for second opinion and Nope. We returned our orders for our money back and went elsewhere. The staff was polite but the food was gross

K

Very sad this historic place also has joined our boycott list. Such a wonderful legacy, destroyed. I could've eaten at 7-11 or Jack in the Box and felt more satisfied. Portions are way smaller, quality is lousy, food was cold, many items not fresh and past their due date. Staff were playing on their phones, gossiping, and watching TV. The service counter experience felt more like facing a firing squad. Rude, and rushed the process as if to hurry up and get you out of their faces: (move along sir, we're in charge here not you). Harry's used to mean loosen your belt, and get ready for a lovely food coma nap afterwards, satisfying and scrumptious. This was atrocious and gross. We've given them a few chances over the past couple years, and have finally decided we will never return. Jesus may as well return now cause nothing is sacred anymore apparently. If this was a first date experience, you'd have been dumped immediately BYE FELICIA 👎👎👎 There's been a gradual dilution of traditional values and TLC in customer service and hospitality over the past couple generations and now it just feels like employees no longer give a hoot. Zero sincerity and you're treated like a nuisance. Felt like a violation. I want my money back truth be told. Update: someone suggested try the San Leandro location so we did, and I can confirm it's still great quality and caring nice staff so that's where we'll go when we want Harry's
