I would give 10/5 stars if I could. The food was excellent, just so delicious and unique and well-prepared. And owners were so sweet and kind. We came 30 min before closing, thanks to a snow storm, but the chef/owners were so patient and kind, prepared all the food just for us (the storm was bad so no other customer was around at that hour), gave me free hot soup even! It's one of those restaurants that truly takes pride in preparing and sharing food with love. Highly recommend this place.
Shwe Burmese Restaurant If your ever in Rensselaer, 100% go check this place out!! It's very cozy but clean inside! the employees are so nice it is a family run business, it isn't expensive either. you can get to go if your in a rush. they take their time & everything is made with quality/ALL FRESH ingredients! they even gave me a complimentary dessert along with a soup and salad with my order. all for $10!!! definitely won't find another place like this! sweestest customer service I've ever received.
This is the best restaurant experience I have ever had. Cozy, unpretentious place with unbelievably great food. I travel a lot for my job so I eat out a lot. I had the vegan curry with brown rice. I never have had a better curry dish. The soup, slaw, and desert were all part of the meal. The desert was like a French bakery but better. Prices are too low. The family that runs this are wonderful people. I read some reviews that said the service is a bit slow . I disagree. This is not previously frozen chain restaurant food. Everything is cooked to order and prepared for you. Makes a difference. If you are in hurry and don't want to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, then order to go. They also had a surprise birthday desert for a guest with the entire family led by the 4 year old grand daughter of the owners joining in.
Should pay them a visit & you won’t be disappointed about their Burmese cuisines 😍😍😍 Update: Came back again for dinner orders: ‘Mango salad’; ‘Fried shirmp’; ‘Coconut Noodle soup’; ‘Pork Belly stew’. All was delicious! Spent a little chat with the chef. And get to know more how they run this restaurant. Everyone, if you like enjoying the home-cooking foods. (And the prices! We are still surprise to compare with others now in Albany). Don’t hesitate to come & try them! 😋😊🤓
A tiny restaurant that should absolutely not be overlooked and is worth a detour. You could get a delivery, but the attentiveness of the staff and the cozy atmosphere is well worth it. The crispy tofu was cooked perfectly, the salad was fragrant, crunchy and well-balanced, the main dishes were a majestic blend of taste and the iced tea was addictive. The cashew nut stir-fry had tender pieces of chicken and crunchy vegetables in a sweet and savory sauce, definitely the highlight of our meal. The Palata bread was also excellent, freshly made, buttery and flaky on the inside, resembling a croissant in texture and taste, even though we ordered it thinking it was a flatbread of sorts. The only thing we didn't quite like was the shrimp that came with the Burmese flat wide noodles, choosing a different type of meat would've made the dish much better.
The food is very authentic and delicious. Shwe is a family run restaurant and has unbelievably good food. We ordered many dishes and they were quickly prepared and served. The restaurant itself is not very large but it has a very nice and homey feel. I would 100% recommend going here.
As a native of Burma (now known as Myanmar), Shwe serves 100% legit food from my beloved hometown. Everything tasted like it was made with care and love. Service was warm and welcoming. What to get: Lahpet thoke- Fermented green tea leaf salad Crisp Tofu- Simply amazing! As good as what my family makes. Burmese Samosa- Packed with flavor! Love the thin fried exterior. Mohinga- Fish soup with thin rice noodles, lemongrass, fish sauce, and crispy split pea fritters Khow suey kyat- Stir fried wheat noodles with vegetables Burmese red tea- Aromatic, creamy and delicious!
Phenomenal! This was my first time trying Burmese food, and it set the bar so high!!! Everything was so delicious! I got the lunch special, which comes with a small salad and soup - both were surprisingly delicious! For appetizers, my party and I ordered the fried tofu and tea leaf salad. The tofu was home made, and it showed! So flavorful and soft :D The tea leaf salad was amazing! So delightfully crunchy with the peanuts and sesame seeds and cabbage, so very flavorful with the tea leaves and garlic oil. I loved it and want to try all of their salads! For a main, I shared the tofu curry and egg plant curry, and both were amazing! The tomato curry sauce was so delicious. I also got the Burmese tea - it had milk and a splendid spice profile that was just so comforting!! Lastly, we had the tapioca pearl and coconut milk dessert, also lovely! I wish I was more eloquent with describing flavors, but trust me, you need to try this place!! Every dish we received and tried, we were blown away by the depth of flavor!! This place is unassuming looking on the outside, but don't let its subtlety and quiet appearance deceive you. This place is bursting with flavor and authenticity. It's a family run business. I want to go back here as soon as possible to try more of their menu!
Homely atmosphere. They served us jasmine tea, salad and soup before we ordered our food which was pretty good to begin with. We ordered "Shrimp curry" & "Fish Curry"-both were lightly spicy, tomato based curries, slightly salty for my taste but still good! We also ordered "Burmese fried rice with chicken" which was simple yet awesome and the "Tea leaf salad" which tastes amazing. Everything was great- including the prices. It was our first time trying Burmese food and we will definitely go back.
Very friendly with good tasting food that taste familiar and cooked home style. The curries are very flavorful, and the servings are very generous. The place deserves community support :)
So thrilled to hear we finally have Burmese food in the Capital Region ! We visited two weeks ago and we haven’t stopped talking about it since. We had Shan noodle, tea leaf salad, chicken curry, beef stir fried noodles, and every dish was perfectly balanced. Make sure to add that you want the fish sauce in the food - it makes all the difference. The tea leaf salad with crunchy beans was delicious, the stir fry was one of the best we have ever had (not greasy at all), the curry came with a generous portion of meat, and the Shan noodles were so, so tasty. Super fresh, great portions and price. The service was also really friendly and warm. If I could give six stars I would. If you haven’t tried Burmese food before then now is the time to do it !
This place is really good. I eat here every week with my family the food always comes out hot and fresh. As well the prices are great and so are the portions.
What a treasure in Rensselaer! Delicious, unique, freshly-made Burmese food at an absurdly ridiculous price. Ate here tonight with my son and we both loved it. Our first time trying food from Burma. We sampled the tea leaf salad, shrimp curry, palata, and the Mohinga soup. Dessert was complimentary. This place should be packed for what they are serving. I only wish it was closer to my home. Food lovers in the Albany area visit this local establishment run by a mom and son. You won't be disappointed.
Really delicious, authentic Burmese food. The tea leaf salad and fish soup are as good as any I've ever had. Curries were also very good. If you've never had Burmese food before it's a cuisine you don't want to miss out on.

Family run. Great food. Everything made fresh. Nothing frozen. Ordered the Crispy Wings & Veggie + Chicken stir fry. The wings were huge, had a tempura like batter around them & not breading. Very crispy. They cut the corners of the box to let the steam out & for the wings to remain crispy. Attention to detail means they care about the customers & the food. The Veggie + Chicken stir fry was fresh, no frozen veggies were used & the veggies retained a bite along with the flavour. Overall a fabulous meal & the family had a warmth around them when I went to pickup the food.
Great place if you're looking for homemade Burmese food. I got the beef curry, and it was delicious. The free soup it came with honestly tasted like something my family would make- super flavorful and clean. The seating area feels like someone's living room, so don't come here if you're expecting a fine dining experience but definitely come for the food.
Having access to such tasty food that I wouldn't know how to cook at home makes me feel like I live in a big city. A great addition to the Capital Region food scene. We are vegetarian, and every dish we've had had been delicious. (I'm sure the other food is great too.) There can be a wait to get your main course, but they provide Asian style salads and soups and it is nice to slow down and talk with my dining companions rather than rushing through a meal. So glad to have this wonderful dining option.
I had never heard of this place until it popped up as a random suggestion on DoorDash. I'm so glad I gave it a try because everything I ordered was beyond my expectations. There are real, fresh veggies, and fresh, perfectly cooked meats, and the flavor of everything was perfectly on point. I have now ordered there a couple times and never been in person, but can say it has consistently been fantastic food even delivered. The only possible negative thing I could say is that it's a little slow getting it delivered, but if the food is going to turn out that good - by all means, take your time!! I love all kinds of Asian foods and sincerely think this is one of the best restaurants I have tried in the area, or probably anywhere.

Shwe is a lovely little immigrant family run Burmese restaurant. The service is super friendly, although with very limited staff they can sometimes fall a little behind. The food is unique and consistently excellent, and the prices are reasonable. My personal favorites are the Tea Leaf Salad, the Fish Noodle Soup, and the Kimchee Burmese Fried Rice, but I haven't finished exploring the menu yet.

Wow wow wow, this is some of the best food in the capital region, and the servers are thankfully knowledgeable about what options are vegan and gluten-free (of which so many items are). It’s a cute little intimate space, which we loved besides our closer proximity to an annoying child watching a loud handheld screen, and everyone who worked there was super sweet. The food itself was incredible. The crispy tofu tasted like a pastry, the vegetable fresh rolls were exceptional, and the vegan Burmese soup was so good. I got the tofu curry, which came with a gravy that really burst with flavor. I was honestly already full from how generous the appetizers had been. My partner got the tofu poke bowl, which was beautiful and delicious.
Shwe is a small family run, no frills restaurant. The service is a little slow but you're rewarded with a delicious home cooked meal served with love. The flavors were delicious and the complimentary appetizers (soup and pickled salad) and dessert (shaved ice) were so kind and welcome, especially in the heat! Stop by and support this family local restaurant!
