The best beach vibes in Rochester. This place is a gem, you can sit out on the soft sand beach and drink and watch the sunset. Go on summer Mondays or Tuesdays for freedom from the strict rules of the other nights - on those nights no bands, you can sit where you want, etc. Go on other nights for kind of annoying lame rules - if you are only 2 people, you can only sit on the side chairs, only facing the glaring sun, etc. Not sure why those side chairs can't be where the sun is at your back. They even have food on weekends like a charcuterie board stand or hot dogs/hamburgers. I was SO IMPRESSED they even had vegan Beyond Burgers at their hotdog stand - amazing! Otherwise you can order or bring your own food in. The only mixed drinks are canned, but they are pretty good. I like the pina colada - get a lot of ice to pour it in. It's strong! The staff is friendly, the vibe is very Jimmy Buffet, and the view is the best. Only one bathroom for ladies so prepare to stand in line if it's busy - or do like I do, just use the mens bathroom instead.
First time here this weekend after living in Rochester for 27 years. There was a cover because they had a band playing, and they had charcuterie boards available to buy, which was apparently a new thing that night. The lines all went quickly for getting in, ordering drinks, and using the bathroom, which is always a plus. It was very busy but it didn't feel crowded.
Always a great time hanging out at Marge’s! Mostly because because you feel like you’re at your friends house on the beach! If you want a chair to sit in get there early cause they go fast! But for good reason since this place is so cool 😎
This is a great place for some drinks, a little music and enjoying the sand. Took my girl here and had a great time. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere, listening to the waves, music with a nice tiki bar
Always a good time here at Marge's! Can't beat the laid back atmosphere. Not to mention its the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail and watch an amazing sunset. If you haven't been here it should be on your "to do list".
A fine place to watch the sun set. Enjoy a drink on the beach space behind the bar. Have a variety of cocktails frozen or on the rocks. Frequent live music.
An excellent summer bar, there's nothing like it - you can go through the bar and drink on the beach. They have reasonable drink specials and frequently have live music. Definitely one of the best bars in Rochester
One of a kind Tavern with a bonus Sandy Beach on Lake Ontario. Only Beachfront Bar in Rochester NY. Rare jukebox that plays 45’s with rare oldies. Best staff in Rochester and Fran and Francine make you feel at home. This is a must go to place in Rochester
Was there for a wedding, what a great time!!!! Perfect place to celebrate and prices were fantastic!! Can't beat location and views!!
Awesome place to go relax and enjoy a drink with friends! Owners are awesome, very accommodating! Best beach bar around, highly recommend!
Nice place good music drinks can be a little stronger but very good atmosphere great location on the beach very beautiful
Love this bar! Enjoy cocktails on the beach. Great sunsets during the summer. Live music on the back deck. Wear your sandals or flip-flops, toes in the sand, cold drink in your hand. A unique spot. It's small inside, order your drinks and head out to the beach.
In light of covid Marge's was excellent. One particular staff was Eric. He was precious and lovely to interact with. At the bar he was attentive and engaging while the other bar keeps were average. If you are nice he may even get you VIP seating! Eric certainly needs a raise and more tips! They really kept the magic of the beach while maintaining social distancing.
I absolutely adore Marge's. Super cute little beach bar. If you looking for some frozen cocktails with a great view of the lake and sand in between your toes then this is the perfect spot. My personal favorite summer bar!
Didn't have the food, played a show here with my band. Awesome service with an amazing atmosphere. Total beach town vibe! Certainly love to return for a repeat.
Marge’s beach bar is an incredible summer experience. It’s a lovely venue, overlooking the lake. Comfortable chairs, live music and great drinks make for a very fun evening.
For my birthday make-up. For your information, we went there at 2 pm they open time but opened at 3 pm though. Just enjoy sun bed or drinking beer & chatting is a good spot.
Marge's has become one of my favorite spots. The staff is always friendly, the bartenders are fun, and you can bring your own food. Great place for a date night or play board games with friends with your feet in the sand.
The building is pretty small but the beach area is very large and comfortable. We had 15 people and we were all able to gather into a large circle and talk and visit and most importantly, we could all hear each other
There's a lot of sun and fun to be had at Margie's on the beach ........ You might hear the sounds of your favorite group... Plus the sun and several boats tied up at the beach.. Gives you something to watch while catching a tan..At least 100 people.. Plenty of chairs..... 5 STARS AT LEAST
This is paradise in Upstate NY! We had the most wonderful time at Marge’s! The band was fantastic; friendly staff that went out of their way to get to know us; the most amazing views of Lake Ontario, especially subset! A little treasure that must be seen! #margeslakesideinn #buzzybooth
Great atmosphere and it is a true beach bar, complete with a Tiki bar. Update: Changes since Covid, even though rules have been ended: if you want to listen to music, get there early or you may have to wait a while since you can no longer bring your own chair.
So, if you don't know anyone that has a lakefront cottage, well, now you do! Yes it's small on the inside and can get very crowded at times, but when make your way through to the back, you'll understand why Marge's is the place to be, (especially to watch the sunset). If you like beachfront booze (nice tiki bar out back!) and great live entertainment, then this is the place for you! The new front patio is amazing! (Sidenote - expect to climb 15-20 stairs up to the entrance)
This is an amazing gem of Rochester!!!! the staff treats you like family, just please be respectful of the neighbors next door and don't throw garbage and cigarette butts so we can keep it nice and have this place forever. Hands down my favorite bar in town♡
Reasonably priced drinks with a fun "know everyone" (whether you do or not) atmosphere. Open year round. In the warmer weather, it's nice to pull up a chair on the beach and soak up the sun or watch it set.
Great bar, the view of the ocean was awesome and the staff was great, very quick and professional service and the atmosphere of the bar makes me want to keep coming back. Also, the live music was fantastic.
Have been here couple of times and feel like I can rate this place as I have seen it enough number of times. Awesome place to hangout with your friends and family. Have private beach access which is awesome. You can catch awesy sunset from here. After sunset also it's really cool place. Must visit once. Cons- they don't server any food here
Marge's is always fun. Great music, feet in the sand, sun, wide variety of ages n a beer in hand, what more could you want on a summer night.
Why I've lived in Rochester NY for so many years now and never been until today is beyond me 🤔 this place is awesome 👌 I love this place 🏖
Best experience here on this last Sunday afternoon!!! All of the staff were super friendly and welcoming! Love the entire vibe. Definitely will be back soon!
So much fun sitting in the sand and listening to the live bands! Entertainment schedule is posted on their website - cover was only $5 to get in and the drinks are great. Very cool vibe inside and cant beat the waitress/drink service in the sand. Indoor and outdoor bar available and a little table with snacks & hotdogs outside. Highly recommend!!
This iconic place is the best in Irondequoit . In the summer there is the beach and the music and a sunset like the Caribbean. In the fall and winter Francine and her staff warm it up to a truly enjoyable evening. We did not eat there but the menu choices seemed good.
Such a Roc staple! Fun tiki bar setting on the beach with friendly service and live music.
What a cute establishment this is!! I can't believe I've never been here before now. It's small but so charming with their beach theme, frozen drinks & nice fire set up in front. In the back they have an awesome beach front. 1 of our favorite things was all the pictures of their family all over the walls💗 We love it & will definitely be coming back again!!
Stopped in last night for a drink for the first time. Wish I had known about this great little spot sooner! I can't wait for the warm weather to truly enjoy the outdoor areas but in the meantime I'll still be stopping out whenever I'm in Rochester.
A lot of fun here! Nice customer service! Very chill place to be! If you’re complaining about it being “too crowded” for the only true beach bar in Rochester…..then don’t go out at all. The beautiful days in Rochester are limited. Love everything about coming here!
So great here I love the vibe! We brought our own food in and sat in the back by the window to watch the water on a cold day. It was so quiet and cozy! The barteneder said they're entering their slow season but I liked it more than when we went in the summer and it was packed. Either way we will be back anytime we're up that way!
First time and it was so great. The waitress and waiter were very friendly and helpful and their customer service was excellent. Had a spot right next to the water and the sunset was so beautiful. Music was nice also. Wish they had food but the drinks for my friends they said were great.
One of the only establishments in Rochester that truly takes advantage of the lakefront. Awesome beach tables in the summer and a great party atmosphere inside during the other months.
I LOVE this place - Rochester’s local Key West-ish tiki bar!!! Perfect spot for drinks with friends & to see the sunset over the lake. We’ve been going here for a long time. Spring- Summer-Fall 😊 never been in the winter but it is open then too! The Rum Rita is my fav cocktail. It’s Their Secret Recipe - I try making it at home but never quite right. You can order food & have it delivered or get take out from the places near by. I have to say it’s been an adjustment these past few years, with the “assigned seating” now & the $5 cover charge (or more w/ entertainment) every day of the week?? It seems..? My friends & I love this place - was lucky enough to have the whole place practically to ourselves the day I retired - it was a Rainy day, we didn’t care - had a great time!
Highly recommend you give this gem a visit whether you live nearby or are just visiting. Looks like there is always a $5 cover but drinks are pretty cheap so it could be worse. Indoor seating and bar, but the real magic happens outside. Tons of sandy beachside with tables and tiki torches to sit around. Not much better than sticking your toes in the sand and having a cocktail!
This was originally a negative review, mistakes do happen especially on holiday weekends — im guessing I was confused with someone else and cut off and it was bizarre. But the owner contacted me on here and was all class. This is the review I wanted to leave originally, because the place is awesome and truly unique. If you’re thinking of getting some beach time with a drink in your hand, squinting and pretending you’re somewhere tropical, this is definitely the place. Judging by the owner’s response, I can safely say good people are behind the operation. I will be showing my dad and friends this place! Go to Marge’s!
Well none of us have been in a while I guess but Marges has definitely brought up their game! Met friends there last night and was thrilled to be escorted out and pointed to wonderful new red chairs around barrels to hold drinks! A band playing and a friendly crowd! Love the margaritas in a bag and what could be better than a beautiful evening on the beach, a drink and friends!
My favorite bar to go to. I loooove their frozen drinks and the atmosphere is always the best. If chilling on the beach with great drinks and a fabulous vibe, this is your place to go. Was there on 4th of July and it was incredible seeing all the fireworks along the coast. Definitely worth the drive if you're not in the area.
Unique bar in Rochester. Very relaxing with nice views. Only gripe is when there is a band, they never stop letting people in and it can get dangerously crowded. But on an off night its awesome.
Neat little place. Its right on the beach on Lake Ontario so when you walk in bring your sandals. 😁 Great band. No food, you can order across the street and bring it in.
The service at the bar was so fast and very friendly. The live music was great. People of all ages having a great time. Bring your own camping chair.
Love the vibe of the bar and also, obviously, the ability to walk right onto the beach. Unfortunately, there is a local noise ordinance which stops them from playing any music after around 10pm.
A delightful beach bar featuring sand and water in the open area. Only one bathroom per gender is a bit of a drawback. All in all a fun place with a vacation feel.
This is a popular place in Rochester to hang out by the water during the summer and have a few drinks with friends. Also, being popular it can get jam packed with people and be a bit crowded (that's why the 4 stars). If you can get over that, it's a great place to go. They have live music often and chairs to lounge around. If you're here in the summer, certainly give it a go.
Like a blast from the past -- in a good way. Beach party! A few more chairs would have been nice, given the age of the crowd (didn't expect so many contemporaries. Sorry I waited so long to visit this gem. I'll be back!
Cool little bar down by the water. The have a huge beach and a small establishment. It gets crowded quick, so if you don't mind waiting a bit for a drink or dealing with crowds, then it is a really fun space to hang out. Aslo, you can bring in outside food to enjoy while you sip a nice cold beer or one of their tiki theme cocktails.
I love coming here, it's a nice getaway close to Rochester. Wish they had better beer selections but they do have lots of good beach drinks. Parking can be a nightmare though.
Great crowd. Band was good (Hey Mabel) Drinks on the beach with sand between your toes. Perfect summer evening.
Had a great experience here. This is definitely the type of place you come for the atmosphere vs. Quality or quantity. The drinks are more expensive than your average bar, but the location is why you are more than willing to pay the price. If I could spend an entire day here drinking for less than $100 I would rate 5 stars.
Really like this place. They don't serve food, but you can bring your own, which is awesome. The only thing I'd add is to maybe have a few tables with umbrellas for more options.
I give this little place a 4/5 because it's size; small bathrooms and the need of more servers for the back area. Get ready to pay a cover change. It used to be free entrance but as it became more popular during summer time and the amazing sunsets a cover change was established. Live music at the back some times good and another times not.
Sand, water, beer, fun. Impossible to find parking, but worth it if you do. Owner frannie is a hoot. They don't serve food, but you can bring stuff in or have it delivered. Becomes very packed very quickly in the summer. Spring, fall and winter you can have the whole place to yourself.
Ambiance was very fun. Though, The rum runners were $8 and one Corona in a can was $5. There is no glass here because it is on the beach and considered a tiki bar. Highly overpriced but, the sunset was beautiful. I would suggest one drink enjoy the sunset and leave otherwise you will have no money at the end of the night.
I was very disappointed to arrive at Marge's and was told they only allow people who have reservations. And that they were completely booked for the entire day (Sunday, soon after they opened) This isn't even a food establishment. I probably won't be going back. in response to Marge's: The hostess did not convey to us that this was a special event, so we were turned away and left with the impression that this is standard procedure at your establishment. Not everyone checks Facebook before stopping for a casual drink. A sign out front might have been useful.
What a strange experience this was. We were visiting from out of state, and we wanted to have some food and a beer. How this place exists without a food license but with a booze license is a bit difficult to explain. Overpriced hotdogs and burgers grilled on the adjacent property, but the beer service was decent enough. You get the stunning views and that strange feeling like you are at the end of the world geographically. Also, racist strangers will approach you and tell you stories of the origins of their dislike of people of color. What's that about?
I’m new to the area and would like to leave a comment for other newcomers since it was not listed on the website or any social media - there is no food served but apparently you can bring your own? There is also a cover for when bands are playing. Neither of which are explicitly stated anywhere. I find that to be strange. It seems as if the patrons are longtime customers and locals, but for people who may want to try new things, updating your website and social media to reflect what people should expect so they can better prepare would be appreciated. Otherwise the location is great and live music on the beach can’t be beat.
Had to give this place 3 stars cus I haven't been myself, but a friend went for her birthday and got turned away for being "loud." I mean, whatever, not my business, ya know? So I checked out the reviews to see what's up, and I can't believe there's a lame excuse for the behavior or some snarky comment on almost every review. As a business owner, constructive criticism is cool! But trying to justify actions or being smart about professionalism or lack thereof, not a good look. So, I'll be skipping this spot.
When we went it was a warm summer day and the crowd was unbelievable. everyone was just standing shoulder to shoulder and they kept letting more people in. Very difficult to move around. Kind of a miserable experience, we got out of there pretty fast.
Very understaffed. 1 waitress serving the whole beach which is ridiculous. Took 30 mins before we could flag the waitress down to order. Then got our drinks 25 mins later only to find out they lost my credit card. Not a great experience and I understand things have changed in nys and covid but have not had this many issues anywhere else I have been since the new food with alcohol requirement. Plus required a cover and no band was playing. C'mon.
Not sure what’s wrong with one of the employees (possibly owner?) who sits by the front door. But she was outrageously rude when my friend and I approached her at the entrance. No friendly greeting and made snarky comments about our youthful appearance. Could possibly be racist against minorities? We did nothing wrong. Answered our questions with quite a nasty tone. Made the initial experienced distasteful and I’m not sure if I’d want to come back here. Enjoyed the waiter and sunset but everything before that was highly unwanted rudeness
The owner was so rude! I was there for my friends birthday and we were having fun and laughing and she seriously told us to calm down and be quiet! We're in a bar drinking! Sorry we're having a great time, I guess you don't want people in your bar having fun? No wonder everyone left after the live music was over. What a buzz-kill -_-
Do you want to wait in a 20 minute line to get in the door? Do you want to wait in a 20 minute line for a watered-down mixed drink? Do you want to wait in a 20 minute line for the bathroom? Do you want unresponsive table service and QR table service that doesn’t work? Then Marge’s is the place to go! This is the experience I had after paying a $10 cover for a band who I couldn’t hear in the roped off beach area because of the horribly mixed, outdated sound system at this bar. You’re better off drinking on your boat or going down to the public beach access than going to Marge’s.
The smallest bar around. It's a beach bar but you CAN NOT get in from the beach.. We docked our kayaks there for drinks but were rudely stopped and told we could NOT enter through the back. The trip around to the front entrance would have taken 30 - 40 minutes. We decided never to come back and returned home. We just wanted water.
