I had an amazing time here. The service was an absolutely wonderful. I was greeted kindly and treated well. Everything on my plate tasted amazing and felt worth what I was paying. I will definitely be coming back and bringing others with me.

We took the bar experience. The male bar tender is on point! True professional, prompt, anticipates needs, always watching. Margs are strong. The fajitas are fantastic. Salsa is a nice roasted flavor.

Rockwall on the border is back And better than ever!!! Apparently, this location was purchased by Pappasito’s and their menu and service has made a drastic change for the better. We have Gone several times since the change and every time the food was great and our dinner guest really enjoyed it. On December 3, 2026, my wife and I sat in the bar area as a restaurant was completely full. It is a rare site to see this restaurant full back when they were owned by Brinker. Sometimes when you sit in the bar, you may get less than ideal service but this time we had great service. The bartender came and attended to us at a booth in the bar area and we were promptly greeted given great service and he even was able to have the kitchen recreate a menu item that had just been removed from the menu. I often order two drinks when I go out to eat one iced tea and one water just in case the service is lacking I have an additional beverage. I never had to touch my water and the bartender kept our drinks full the entire night. We never had to ask for a refill or ask for anything. He was on top of the service and did really well. We are so glad to see that the quality of food has significantly increased and their fajitas are some of the best in Rockwall County in my opinion. I highly recommend you go check out the new version of on the border. From the outside it looks like the same old on the border, but the food and service is completely different.

Just enjoyed one of the best meals I've had at an On The Border restaurant, in Rockwall, Texas. A friendly young lady named Kylie was approaching customers table and introducing herself and politely asking if we were enjoying our meal. Yes, we were. The Food was very delicious, the chips and salsa awesome and the classic Margherita was refreshing. Later, Kylie was working the floor and noticed we were finished and ready to leave. She came over and Thanked us for visiting On The Border. P.S. Corey our server was very nice and professional. Highly recommend This Location in Rockwall. Thank you. 12-13-2025 @ 1:28 pm Table 43/1

Great service and even better food! Kylie and John were very welcoming. The chips and salsa were very delicious as well. The guac was also really fresh and tasty. Great margaritas too!!!

I stopped by and tried out their queso and southwest chicken tacos. The flour tortillas were very good quality, the chicken was real chicken with good spice. They top it off with french fried onions which was a really nice twist. The queso was just what I wanted it to be, nice and cheesy with some tomato and jalapeno diced in it. Their tortilla chips seemed nice and fresh. The wait staff was very attentive and kind. I noticed the menu looked new and had some different items on it that I've never seen before, and the waitress confirmed that was correct, that they changed their menu about every 3 months. That was refreshing to find and the southwest chicken tacos were certainly different than what I had had anywhere else. I'm glad they are continuing to stay original and innovative. The atmosphere was just as you would expect from On the Border, Cantina Style with plenty of booths and nice lighting.

I recently had a pleasant dining experience at On the Border in Rockwall and would give it four stars overall. The service was great; our server was attentive and friendly. She made sure our drinks were always topped up and checked in frequently to see if we needed anything else. Her communication skills were excellent, which really added to the positive atmosphere of our meal. 👍 The restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained, contributing to a comfortable dining environment. The restroom was also clean which is something I always check on. We were seated promptly, and the ambiance was lively without being overwhelming. It was clear that the staff took pride in keeping the place tidy, which is always a plus when dining out. As for the food, it was good overall, though I must admit I've had better chips and salsa at other Mexican restaurants. The salsa lacked a bit of kick for my taste, but it was fresh. The main dishes were flavorful and served promptly, which is always appreciated. Despite the minor critique on the chips and salsa, the quality of service and the overall dining experience more than made up for it. 👍

We went to this on the border location last night and was served by Cory. We got there around 7 and got queso first. Then we ordered our main meals and we were disappointed to see every table who sat down after us got their food well before us. Cory apologized and went to check on our food multiple times. We never complained, but after about 45 minutes since we sat down the manager came and told us they would cover our meals due to the long wait. We appreciated the meals being taken care of and Cory gave us some chips and salsa to go. Although it was a longer than usual meal, it was still delicious and management made it worth the time.

Corey was our awesome waiter, he was so sweet, accommodating, attentive, and helpful. Be sure to ask for him if you go. Food was delicious. Will definitely be going back.

The booth seats were dirty with food and the floor under the table was covered with food and litter. I asked the hostess seating us to find someone to clean the seat so I could sit down. I waited until our waiter showed up and she cleaned it. The empty booths next to us were also not cleaned well, so we couldn't move to another table. The sour cream sauce on the chicken enchilada was so thin it leaked all over the beans. It wasn't what I consider a sour cream sauce. Several people had to chase down their waiters to pay the bill. We had to wait 10 minutes for our waiter to pick up our payment. Management needs to up their game. We were expecting better since the sale.

Fantastic atmosphere. I've dinned at the bar several times now and Kayla and Vanh have been wonderful. One of the main reasons I go are for the Birria Quesa Tacos, and OTB actually has Negra Modelo, it's not on tap, but a bottle is better than nothing. This time I had the fajitas, and they were sooo good. A must if you've never been OTB.

The food is the best in Texas. The service is the worst in Texas. I have put up with the horrible service for several years because Is absolutely outstanding. Please ask the servers to quit asking me if it's my first time there. Every Tuesday I order two chicken tacos and water. I have ordered this same exact thing many many times. Yet Everytime I get the wrong order. Even though there are 4 or 5 tables of people, The server takes a long time to take our order.....bring our order.....and he never comes back until finally he brings our checks. 2 hours this last time for tacos and water. Never again!!!!

My family and I were a little disappointed in the changes we saw after a long time between visits. We were informed that OTB was bought out and slight changes were made by the waitress. We truly enjoyed the change to the salsa but miss the big half tortilla chips. However, I don't think they would have paired well with the new salsa. I loved the flavor and the fact it's served warmed 😋. That change I could handle. What my family and I didn't like was the removal of the table side guacamole, the pick 4 and why would we only get one cheese, guacamole, sour cream and Pico set up with a fajitas for two and only 3 tortillas? The change to the fajitas really threw us for a loop. The waitress was great at explaining the changes to us and letting us know that the additional fajitas set up would be additional charge before putting it in to the kitchen. The manager also came by to ensure we were being taken care of. The service was no issue at all, it was the slight changes to items that we enjoyed prior that were now gone.

Terrible . Pappas needs to evaluate the mediocre food of this place . The 4 of us agreed … wasn’t very good . Don’t waste your money here . Trust me .. I do honest reviews .. the food is a 4 out of 10… crappy vibe too. Another failure for Rockwall .

Just ate for the first time here in two years. The Wait staff was noticbly much more attentive and restaurant appeared much cleaner than I remembered. The Chips and Dip was just right not fire engine Red Hot . The So/ West Queso Chicken Dinner was Outstanding and left just the right amount of burn in your pallet ‼️Overall it was an enjoyable dining experience from the food to the staff. The Young Lady who came to our table was cordial and informative regarding our inquires . I believe she was a manager . The Waiter was attentive and never let us ask for anything twice . Five Stars in my opinion overall.

Save yourself some disappointment and just go somewhere else. I should have known when their salsa comes up brown and warm. Its warm on purpose due to the company being purchased. The server confirmed that and the meat is different. The taco salad was mostly lettuce and they were cheap with the taco meat. My queso beef enchiladas were mediocre. THe tortilla was rubbery. The rice was meh, and the refried beans were ok.. tasted like there was some meat missed in (hope that was what it was). The server never checked back in after serving us. The manager came over and I told him all these things. Hope he feeds back on this. I would not expect this place to stay open at this rate.

So very disappointed. I hadn’t been to On the border since they were purchased by the Papa corporation (I had high hopes so I do enjoy papasitos and papadeuex) but it’s obvious Papa purchased OTB to run it into the ground. Let me say I was a long time customer at OTB. While they were not high end I felt the value was justified for the quantity and quality of the food provided. This is no longer the case. They really need to warn customers prior to ordering due to the amount of changes they’ve made to the food and ingredients. I spent close to $100 and feel like I just threw that money away. Let’s start with the salsa, it is so bland. Like warm chunky water. I’d insult the taste of it but it had none. Just gross. The chips are no longer the long and thin variety, I didn’t have too much of an issue with those but the precious chips were better. Do not waste your money on the queso. I ordered the queso primo and after two bites quit. A previous reviewer stated it accurately that it’s like velveta out of a microwave. Just comes across as cheap and tastes terrible. I ordered the combo fajita plate with shrimp and steak and the portions have been drastically reduced. The beans were crunchy and the rice has tomatoes poured over the top like that would make a difference in their rice. The whole meal was just bad. Tortillas were about the same so won’t take issues there. In the end though OTB is gone. I won’t be back. It’s sad. We’ve now lost OTB and Chilis. Very disappointed by these unnecessary changes in the name of rebranding.

This is OTB in name only since Pappas bought the chain. To start the salsa was tomato water and cilantro. The food doesn't have the On The Border pizzazz anymore. It's good Tex-Mex, but it doesn't compare to what it used to be. I'm very disappointed, and El Chico down the hwy will get my business in the future.

I’ve heard all the buzz about the new ownership and we decided to give it a try again. We haven’t gone in years because it was a consistently bad experience. We were greeted and sat quickly. First impressions were that it wasn’t busy and the restaurant was dirty. 50-60% of the tables in our section were full of dirty dishes and nobody to be found. We almost left because we sat and sat with no service or acknowledgement. Nobody to bus tables, nobody to serve chips, no body to wait on tables. Not a good first impression. It got better. Our waitress was great and doing the best she could with what appeared no help. The food came out fast and was good. Basically the only thing different from the old restaurant with issues is new hot sauce and chips.

Really bad food. guacamole had too much salt in it. I wanted to return it but i somehow ate it and felt sick afterwards. I ordered salad and asked to swap chicken with shrimp. It came with few tiny shrimps pieces and They charged $7 extra for in bill without giving me headsup. And that too didn't taste good. I could bearly ate of few bites of that. Money and time wasted. I AM NOT GOING BACK THERE AGAIN.

What a disappointment from start to finish. The booth was dirty when we sat down, which should have been the first red flag. We ordered a chimichanga and queso, but the queso was so watered down it was almost flavorless. The chimichanga was mostly just tortilla with barely any meat inside — completely underwhelming. Even the drinks were bad; the soda was watered down, so I tried switching to sweet tea, only to find that was watered down too. The salsa tasted off, and we didn’t even get silverware until the server passed by our table a second time and noticed. No refills were offered, and we were only given a single napkin for the entire meal. It honestly felt like no one cared. Very poor experience — we definitely won’t be back.

I’m not sure what happened to On The Border, but it’s clearly not the same place it used to be. First off, who approved the new queso recipe? It literally tastes like Velveeta cheese sauce poured straight from the microwave. Zero flavor, zero effort. Just sad. Then there’s the plate I ordered (see photo). I wish I could say it tasted better than it looked… but it didn’t. It was as bland and lifeless as the presentation. You’d think for the price, someone back there would care even a little. This place used to be a solid go-to, but it’s gone way downhill. (I will give credit where credit is due, the Bordurrito is still goated)

When we arrived the person that greeted us seem very lost and confused on how to do her job. The restaurant was not busy and there were plenty of seats available however it took between 5 and 10 minutes to be seated. Our waitress appeared to be rushed. The kitchen service was extremely slow and what made it worse was after we received our food we had to ask several times for silverware. The quality of the food has definitely changed and is not what we've come to expect. I don't know if it the local management or the new ownership. If things don't improve I see this On the Border getting closed also
