I’ve been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years, and it remains an excellent spot for a meal. The service is always great, and the ramen is truly authentic, which is exactly what keeps me coming back after all this time. While the prices have increased quite a bit from what I remember, the quality of the food still makes it a highly recommended destination for anyone looking for a real, traditional bowl of ramen.
Good for late night eats! It’s a small location but it’s perfect! I always get the hakata ramen and I recently tried their karaage chicken and their shredded pork taco and it was a filling meal. Staff is friendly and attentive to refilling my water.
An above average ramen spot that has great service and delicious food. The hakata ramen was very satisfying and not overly salty nor heavy like other ramens. The pork cutlet curry rice came in a large bowl and was delicious. We also got the fried oyster which was a nice appetizer. The staff are very friendly and will yell “irasshaimase” when you enter. Good vibes all around.
One of my top favorite Ramen spots! If you've been to other shin sen gumi locations, and you enjoy ramen, you will love this place. The Hakata ramen is my favorite. Always gotta get Chu-hi when I am here as well. Location is very similar to that of the Torrance/Gardena one. Small, intimate, yet cozy.
This place is so good I had to come here twice in a row while on a work trip! It resembles an Izakaya in Tokyo to me with the little tapas and how the staff greet you. Haven't been to an Izakaya that has ramen but I'm not complaining. If they dimmed the lights a bit and added more japanese decor, it'd be a pretty nice Izakaya! Anyways, had the tuna bites $5, Dandan noodles $13.50, eel rice bow $8, charsiu tacos 2 for $4.75?, gyoza for $5, and Sapporos on tap for $6 each. Great prices! And delicious most importantly (the charsiu tacos though are a little dry, needs lube!) Overall, fantastic service and good eats. Did I mention $6 beers on draft with Japanese tapas??
We came in with low expectations and didn't know this place would taste so good! Their ramen here is truly Japanese ramen style. They cook it so simple but yet so sophisticated the broth and noodle tasted amazing. It's better than some places in Japan and that is my honest opinion. If I was working near by, I would come here for lunch quite often. I ordered their normal Tonkutsu but selected the broth to be intense in flavor. It was a bit more salty but I didn't mind. It's great they gave the option to choose how strong you want the broth to be. The only thing I wouldn't recommend here is their gyoza. It didn't taste that great and very mediocre. The staff were very polite and attentive. I definitely would come back here again and again. Please don't closed down.
The side dishes were great, such as the fried octopus legs and the fried chicken. The ramen, on the other hand, was just OK, especially the noodles were not very good and tasteless. The broth was lukewarm, and the added condiments, garlic chips, corn, and soft egg were all just OK and cold. It was not bad, just OK.
Quick Summary It’s the Cheesecake Factory of ramen. You can expect solid food and service every time. It’s not going to impress anyone, but it’s very consistent Food- 4 stars Tonkatsu ramen- they do give you freedom to add your toppings and customize your noodles and broth. Broth is solid. Was a bit disappointed by the pork though Beef bowl- this was pretty good. Lots of flavor without being too heavy Takoyaki- this was good, but takoyaki usually always is Chicken karage- this was pretty good. Enjoyed it a lot Gyoza- wasn’t the best fan. Felt frozen Service- 5 stars Servers and staff were friendly and enjoyed the Japanese experience of being welcomed Bottom Line Very solid and consistent. It’s not spectacular but you can always get a good meal here
I had early dinner on a Saturday night so the place wasn’t too crowded. Fast and attentive service by the staff! I like that you can customize your ramen bowl by selecting different ingredients and flavors on a paper. I had regular ramen and salmon bowls. Soup stock was great as expected but toppings were limited to pork slices. Additional toppings were available for few dollars more. I removed one star for limited toppings.
Im really sad about how the flavor and quality went down. Ive been coming here since 2015 and I remember how flavorful these bowls of ramen would be. There used to be a man with braids who would make the best ramen and only he had the magic touch. I would always come in hoping he was working there because it was telling that the other workers didnt have the same touch. His bowls of ramen always hit best! The noodles I ordered today werent firm, like I ordered, but soggy. I always get firm noodles because I like the chewiness of the noodles but it just wasnt the case. The broth was a tad too light, almost watered down? The chashu pork seemed almost rubbery and tough, seemingly not fresh or a bit like older freezer burned meat. I really only had two bites of my ramen and immediately was disappointed and could not enjoy it anymore... I really miss the times when shinsengumi was great and there would be a line out the door to get a seat. It doesnt seem to be the case anymore as the quality of ingredients and skill to prepare ramen has significantly dropped in the recent years. This place still holds fond memories so Its sentimental but as the food is being prepared now, its almost hard that I may have to let it go.
Place has always been expensive but food is good. Hate to give a bad review but the portion is getting worse and worse. Ordered their pork loin curry and when it came out I was surprised that the pork loin was probably 4 oz or less. Rice portion was fine but they drenched everything in curry. The ratio was completely off. For $20 bucks after tax I feel like it's unacceptable... Lower your prices or up the portions to what your customers pay for.. I will not be coming back until one of the two changes..
Everything is good, try to give 5 stars, but all meats are not fresh.
I’m really disappointed with my experience ordering from Shinsengumi Ramen through Uber Eats. There was a BOGO deal advertised for the Hakata White Ramen, but the way it’s set up is extremely misleading. The free ramen does NOT automatically get added to your order. There is one specific page where you have to manually click “add” for the free item — and if you miss that single step, you get charged full price. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice that one option on that one page, and I ended up being charged nearly $40 for just one ramen after Uber fees. That completely defeats the purpose of the promotion. If you’re going to advertise a BOGO deal, it should either automatically apply or be clearly and repeatedly stated. The current setup feels like a trap for customers who don’t carefully navigate every screen. Food might be good, but this ordering experience left a bad taste. Be careful when ordering this promotion.
We hadn’t visited Shin Sen Gumi in a couple of years, and we came back with fond memories of their ramen. The soup base used to be creamy, rich, and full of flavor—one of the most authentic bowls you could find in the area. Unfortunately, today’s experience was very different. The ramen broth was watery and almost tasteless, lacking the depth we remembered. We also ordered the chicken karaage, which was a major letdown. Instead of the crunchy, flavorful bite we expected, the pieces came out soggy, poorly marinated, and nearly flavorless. To make matters worse, they weren’t cut into proper small pieces—most arrived as giant chunks that didn’t separate well, giving the impression of leftovers rather than freshly prepared food. This place once felt truly authentic, even with Japanese chefs in the kitchen. Now, it feels more like a fast-food imitation than the Shin Sen Gumi we used to love. Sadly, what was once a go-to spot for us has turned into a total disappointment.
I ordered two ramen bowls for take out . I did not add a tip when I placed the order online because I believe Tips are for when you are provided customer service. When I arrived to pick up my order it had a note stating to leave a TIP which is very rude. When I arrived home I open the ramen bowl when I placed the broth in the bowl it was not even half full. I ordered a side of corn for almost $3 and received about 8 pieces of corn. The broth was very bland. I will never return back to this location they have horrible customer service and overpriced ramen
