Everything was delicious , clean place ,great atmosphere , good music & customer service is always excellent . Favorite place to go !
Their artistic decor & murals transport you to puerto rico , along with the salsa maringa music. Elegant buffet, reasonable priced & delicious made from scratch puerto rican cuisine. They are really busy during their buffet hours and parking will be limited during that time. Friendly staff & spot on service! I will be back!!
I'm so happy to have found delicious classic Puerto Rican dishes in the heart of SA. I grew up in south florida and as I served myself buffet style and enjoyed every bite, I felt like I teleported home to all of my cuban and Puerto rican friends backyard parties where the food was always the absolute best!
A delicious gem tucked in a small strip building. Everything is very clean, and the dinning room is very spacious. The fried carne chunks with tostadas melt in your mouth, soooooo good. The Cuban sandwich is a very generous size, but could use a few more pickles imo. The buffet is well stocked and clean. Staff is very friendly, and give good service.
This is one of my favorite Puerto Rican restaurants in the United States! I’ve been coming here since I was a teenager and although the restaurant has gone through many changes, the level of service is still excellent and the food is delicious. They have live music on Fridays and Saturdays from 6-9pm. The Buffet is everyday from 11-3pm except Tuesdays when they’re closed. Otherwise you can order from the regular menu. The ambience is pretty chill and they always have good music playing.
I have been wanting to try this place for a few years but would always forget about it. We decided to go last night and I loved it. I can't wait to to back. The food was absolutely delicious. I visited Puerto Rico a few years ago and I've been craving mofongo ever since I left there. I ordered the mofongo and shrimp and it was so good!. The pina coladas and margaritas were nice and refreshing. They were playing live music and I really loved the atmosphere.
Amazing. After having a wonderful experience during the holidays on the island, it was nice to find authentic Puerto Rican food in San Antonio of this high quality. La Marginal is not new, and I did visit years back, and it was good then, but they have made many changes that have only made it better. I got to try their buffet from 11 am to 3 pm on my birthday with my wife (closed on Tuesdays, FYI) and it was amazing. For a reasonable price you get a terrific variety, including chicken, pernil, rice and beans either yellow or white, maduros, and salad, yuca french fries, and dessert Coconut flan, or flan de queso. Other than the Yuca fries which are a take or leave for me, the pernil is super tender and cooked to perfection, the chicken is soft and juicy, and the rice and beans and maduros were perfect. After two buffet plates my wife and I were stuffed. Best meal we have had since the holidays in Puerto Rico. This will be our go to place for the holidays and special occasions in San Antonio this year and every year as long as they are around and the quality stays this high. Extra plus the atmosphere is really nice. You feel like you are in PR. So happy 😀!!!
I've really enjoyed eating great Puerto Rican food at La Marginal through the years. The best part is that it's very consistent and very delicious. Mostly I go for the buffet. The pork, chicken, and rice are all super tasty and keep you wanting to go back for more. The cost of the buffet with tax is about $20 a person, but well worth it due to the quality of food. Highly Recommended! Posting current and past photos!

The food was absolutely incredible. It’s honestly the best Puerto Rican food I’ve had to date … As far as buffet goes, it is the freshest best quality buffet that I’ve had personally yet yes the buffet is not massive like a standard Chinese buffet, but it is definitely quality over quantity. The food was amazing. The only thing if I had to make any small gripes that I would say and the reason why I would say I gave them four stars in that five is because even though the atmosphere is amazing very nice inside and very clean. The customer service is amazing. The price is great for the buffet. The only other thing I would say is this sweet tea for example is lacking. The sweet plantains were not very sweet in the passionfruit juice they have that is a big deal to them was watery but other than the two drinks and the sweet plantains the food otherwise was absolutely amazing even on picture if you see some of it, it might look like just normal food however the white rice even without putting beans or anything in there was so flavorful it didn’t even make sense the buffet extend extends over into their little bakery section too, which is all you can eat
The flavors really jump at you as soon as you open the container. Unfortunately didn't have the chance to eat on-site but the flavor of the food travels as my spouse and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Will definitely make a return trip
We ordered to go. Very nice ambiance inside the restaurant when we went to pickup the order. Meats were very flavorful, however the pork was a bit dry. The mofongo was a bit hard by the time we got home(30 mins drive), so that might be on us. I liked the variety tray, but I’d replace the tostones and yuca and fried meat for some sorullos instead, and add 1 more of each of the other samples. You could also add the yuca al mojo,l instead of fried. The fried meat in the tray was a bit overcooked. I’d definitely try again though.
I went back to see if it would be any better than last time. Spoiler alert, it wasn't. I ordered the Cuban sandwich again. The pork was still dry. Still not enough ham mustard pickles or Swiss cheese…

Heard from a friend about this place. Took the family there for their lunch buffet. $15 per person for the buffet, which was reasonable. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the staff was very friendly and attentive. I tried a little of everything on the buffet. the rice with shrimp was o.k., the shrimp were large but a touch overcooked so they were rubbery. The black beans were a touch too salty for me,, but i don't like a lot of salt in my food, so that is just me. Also tried the rice with clams; same issue with the clams overcooked. Next the grill chicken was bland and a touch on the dry side; same for the pork roast-a touch overcooked and that cause the dryness. Also had the fried Tilapia fish was overcooked too and was rubbery. There was a Desert bar that was included and the Coconut Flan was Superb., the regular Flan wasn't bad either, but definitely get the Coconut one. They do have a 10% unadvertised Military discount but you have to ask for the discount to get it. Overall for me the food was O.K., the price was reasonable, the staff were great, but the food was not to the point where I would drive across town to go to again.

We’ve supported La Marginal for 20+ years and we can no longer support this restaurant. Since the changing of management post COVID La Marginal has lost its Puerto Rican authenticity. We catered La Marginal for my abuela’s 90th birthday and that was the last straw. When we brought our concerns to management post event we were brushed off and not respected. Puerto Ricans use pique, not salsa, and there’s only one type of pique. Plátano más duro is not coated in brown sugar. The arroz con gandules is made together not separately. We paid $1,000 for them to mess up multiple dishes for an event that was supposed to celebrate 90 years of our Abuela. Lastly, an in person experience is not good either. The service is very unprofessional and unfriendly. Very disappointed since our family is Puerto Rican and we do our best to support all things Puerto Rico in San Antonio. If you’re Puerto Rican or are looking for an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant La Marginal is not the place to go. (February 2026)
The meal was delicious until near the end a roach crawled on my BIL. When showed to the wait staff it was smashed and she went on like nothing happened. As this was my first time here I must say it left a bad taste in my mouth literally. At least address the situation, this leads me to think this is normal occurrence.
