Happened to go in during restaurant week and though the menu they had was a steal, we went ala carte and had the steak tartare and burata which were both amazing. Service was impeccable! The only unfortunate thing was that we were so full that we didn't order dessert but never fear the free cotton candy was a delightful end to the night!

Great place for cocktails! Awesome atmosphere. Our bartender Reece was outstanding! My strawberry spritzer was so good! There was another bartender that served us Saturday night after Reece left but I never caught his name. He created me a white Russian mudslide that was the bomb!

We got there and had a reservation so getting a table was fast! Service was above and beyond despite being busy,we had a mix up with drinks and the manager was fast to rectify the discrepancy (hats off to him) our meal was phenomenal. Not sure who's making your steaks but give that person a raise!!! Server was great, accurate and super fun would 10/10 recommend

Great food, love the aesthetics, and all wrapped with great service! I’ll definitely come back and ask for Lukas!

Went during restaurant week. Had the deviled eggs, hushpuppies, mushroom bisque, the salmon. My DH had the Tuscan beef bolognese, and we both had the Mississippi mud pie.

Great food - was in town for a conference - walked in around 7pm and was seated right away - wait staff was very welcoming (Raquel) & knowledgeable about the menu - she was able to make good suggestions as to what each of us would like. Steak came out perfect along with all the sides - well worth the cost!! You get a free plate of cotton candy with your bill at the end 😊- if you are in a mood for good steak this is a must go when in San Antonio!

Love love the Deviled Eggs and Wagyu meatballs. Great customer service. Juan the Bartender is awesome. He makes thee best drinks. He's so personable. All of the Bartenders were great. You can tell the Bartenders, enjoy their jobs and are not just Bartenders...mixologist.

Excellent! Very modern type place with excellent customer service and all staff was great! Food varies but everything on the menu is very good. I was with a group of 6 and tried different plates, delicious! Kuddos to the chef! Place is super clean and very well maintained.

Our party of three just walked in and were able to be seated almost immediately (3-4 minute wait) I had a great time splitting a lasagna and mud pie then got a massive bag of free cotton candy. A cute and nice waiter (luca I think) gave food and drink explanations and recommendations. and I only almost choked on my mozzarella once (my bad not theirs) It was totally worth It. Great food and a great time!!!

EVERYTHING was a hit!!!! Calamari, tomato bisque, pork chop with bacon, meatloaf and potatoes!! (Exclusion was the Brussel sprouts). Thanks to Lucas for his service. Definitely worth the money!

In my 50 years of life, I have eaten many steak dinners. I can confidently say, without reservation, that Chef Jason Dady created a savory masterpiece for me on 9/4. It was almost a religious experience. That's a pretty large compliment to back up, so let me get right to it. I am a fast eater. That trait comes from my military background. Once I pick up my eating utensils, I don't put them down till the food is gone or until I'm full. I don't even set them down to take a drink of my beverage. The filet mignon Chef prepared for me practically melted in my mouth. The seasoning covered my lips with its savory punch and made me want to lick them after every bite. I literally put both my fork and knife down after each bite in order to pause and savor the full flavor. Anything less would have been an insult to the meal itself. I would take a drink of water after a bite or two so I could minimize the existing seasoning on my palette and re-experience the decadence of the next bite. The asparagus? Rarely do I enjoy this vegetable. What Chef made was undeniable. I had to consume every single stalk. Petite Filet Mignon, asparagus, peach Italian soda, and water. To call this a meal is actually insulting. It is 100% an experience. And for the money? You won't find a better deal. It's taken me 50 years to find this one.

We had a great experience here last night. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was perfect for the occasion. The food was fantastic, everything from the appetizers to desert was delicious. I would definitely recommend dining here for a special occasion

Had a nice lunch here. (The stop serving Brunch in Jun '18). Atmosphere is quite and upscale, but price was reasonable. Potato soup was light and flavorful. Some of the best hush puppies I've ever had- with excellent mustard aoli dip. Waygu Meatball and pasta was just the right size for lunch. A fun surprise was getting a plate of cotton candy with the check. Staff was extrealy nice and knowledgeable.

Good food, solid value for money, friendly wait staff. Nick was really helpful, knowledgeable, and overall one of the best servers I've ever met. I wanted something light and made up my own meal by combining an appetizer and a side, they were really accommodating.

I had to give this place a review! I was skeptical when I saw it was in the 1st floor of the Embassy Suites, but we decided to give it a shot. I am not a fan of the food in the river walk, I don’t think it’s good. This place the food was amazing, taste A+, Service A+ ( Jeremy was our waiter and he was super sweet and overall great) presentation A+, I will be back. Place is not cheap, but to taste and enjoy fine dining you can’t expect to pay cheap price. I have added this place to my list of favorite places in San Antonio. Thank you!

One of the finest restaurants I have ever visited. The only thing that surpassed the atmosphere and quality of meal, were the incredible staff that runs the show. Personally, I would ask for Madi. She is fantastic!

I first called to ask a few questions about the menu and I believe the bartender answered and was very polite. He answered all my questions so I decided to come down and check the restaurant out. I was greeted by Pablo right away and he showed me the dinner menu and suggested so many things. I decided on a Ceasar salad and Bolognes pasta. It was all better than what he said it was going to be. The restaurant itself was beautiful and every one seemed to be enjoying their meals. I may not visit San Antonio that much but I will definitely be returning to Range!

I brought my husband here for his birthday. We ordered martinis and discovered a new gin, Gunpowder Gin. It was particularly wonderful with olives stuffed with bleu cheese! And they were a good chaser for the oysters! Because it was a special occasion, we were treated to two glasses of sparkling wine and a steak tartare appetizer, which was really great! The entrees we ordered (pictured) were very good. The tacos were augmented by this very spicy sauce. The radiatore pasta was also delicious. Then, when it's all over, we got this really wonderful mud pie dessert! This experience makes it all worthwhile, waiting to be able to go out and celebrate. Range is a place you all should go to! Service was most excellent! Andrew was tending bar and taking care of us like a champ!

Staff was extremely friendly. We participated in the restaurant week 4 course menu so got to taste a variety of options. I had the green chile nachos, mixed field green salad, pan roasted salmon filet and Mississippi mud pie. The food was all good but for me the salmon was a little salty. The front entrance is actually thought the front of the hotel which we didn't know and entered through the street. I would go back into ge future and try out other dishes. Great place for a date night.

If you ever get a chance to get to the Riverwalk in San Antonio, you must stop by range. Love the atmosphere and the vibe. I will warn you now. It is a little on the pricier side but I believe it's worth it. I ordered the wagyu beef meatloaf with the carrots and a Caesar salad which was made table side but I honestly can't find anything wrong with it. The food was great. It came out actually quicker than we expected and the desserts were delicious. And if you're not in the mood for a sit down table dinner you can just sit at the bar, Have a drink and relax after a long day of walking the Riverwalk.

Range strikes the perfect balance between upscale cuisine and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed. The male host was professional and attentive, setting the tone for an excellent dining experience. And behind the bar, the female bartender was truly impressive—moving nonstop with precise, efficient care to ensure every guest was well taken care of. Her attention to detail did not go unnoticed. The steak bites appetizer was absolutely delicious and exceeded my expectations—perfectly cooked and full of flavor. For my main, I had the gnocchi, which was heavenly—soft, rich, and comforting in all the right ways. What really elevated the experience was Chef Karl personally stopping by the table to check in. That thoughtful touch, combined with the incredible food and top-tier service, made my lunch unforgettable. Range serves elevated cuisine in a comfortable, friendly, and professional setting. The drinks were also amazing, rounding out a flawless meal. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

We ordered the burrata and the white truffle pizza (forgot to get a pic of the pizza), and both were excellent! The burrata was excellent, and the pizza had just the right amount of gorgonzola and a generous amount of arugula and prosciutto. Despite the crowds in the riverwalk below us since it was Easter weekend there was no wait here whatsoever and we had excellent service. We’re definitely coming back next time we stay at this hotel.

I had the Garlic & Thyme basted beef tenderloin filet, with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. This is literally the best steak I have ever eaten! The potatoes asparagus are awesome too, but the steak!! Oh my!! Just a little crust on the outside and perfection inside. I am in food heaven!!

This was our first time dining at Range and certainly won't be our last! My husband and I came out for a good date night spot and enjoyed wonderful service from Raquel (hopefully correct spelling). She was so attentive and spot in with all of her recommendations. The food itself was positively fantastic down to each sauce and buttery glaze. I will 100/10 recommend to anyone looking for a delicious and welcoming restaurant on the river walk.

Ok it's fine dining time, did not expect to eat at The Range on Easter Sunday but was not disappointed. 3 corse fixed menu was perfect in every way, the panzanella salad was the best my wife and i have ever had. 2nd corse was ofcourse a perfect mini charcuterie plate, and my Bolognese had the most al dented pasta I have ever had. Headed back for that Argentina steak our awesome waiter recommended.

After some ups and down, we had such a great experience at the Range. We visited for the Ford Holiday parade and the staff and director, Cayli, were so incredibly accommodating. I would hands-down come back! The white chocolate cheesecake is amazing and the brussel sprouts are a must have!

Decided to check out this new place, atmosphere was nice, you can see the river, the staff was great. We ordered the mushrooms as appetizer and I was surprised how good they were. I had prawn it was delicious, we also ordered the smoked salmon and it was great too. Their Old Fashion was great and the touch with the ice was awesome.

If you're looking for a show-stopping steak experience in San Antonio, Range delivers in every way. We ordered the Tomahawk Steak, and from the moment it arrived, it was clear we were in for something special. The presentation was as impressive as the flavor—elevated, elegant, and absolutely mouthwatering. A special shoutout to Jerome, the General Manager, whose attention to detail and hospitality turned our meal into a masterpiece. His passion for excellence shines through in every aspect of the dining experience. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply craving top-tier steak and seafood, I highly recommend Range. It’s not just a meal—it’s a memory.

Very good service! Different approach to well-known dishes. The Mississippi mud pie was really good, very chocolaty. The Caesar salad is outstanding and your waiter prepares it in front of you. We would come back for sure!

I had the best steak of my life….the Prime dry aged Tomahawk ribeye. It was so tender, seasoned extremely well and the table side searing of herbs and slicing by Chef John took my breath away. Raquel was my waitress and she was absolutely amazing. Best restaurant on the river walk hands down. If you’re in San Antonio and want to have a good steak you have to try this restaurant.

Originally, we were going to eat at a BBQ place around the corner and they were closed that day. So we tried a second option, same problem, they were closed that day as well. So we just decided to walk a bit until we found a different option. Came across this place. We knew nothing of it, nor had we heard of it prior. But, adventure with new places to eat at is always on our list, so we walked in. It was lunch time during the week and not between 12-1, so the place was pretty empty and we got a table right away. Running down the menu, it seemed a bit pricier than other places in the region, but it could also be due to higher quality or also due to adjoining to a hotel. Regardless, we were there to try. Upon deciding what we wanted to try, we asked for recommendations, and our waiter said the Brussel Sprouts were very good, and he’s not even a Brussel Sprout person. We both like Brussel Sprouts, so sounded like a winner to us. As a result, we opted to just get simple burgers and fries since we were also getting an appetizer. While waiting, they brought out a couple little delicious blueberry muffins that were warm, and quite good. Sp that was a happy start. Then the sprouts came out. Simply put….. amazing. He gave great advice. They appeared to be flash fried perhaps with some slivered almonds and maybe some other items. They were incredible. It was a large bowl of them, and we both agreed that we would have been delighted to just have ordered one bowl each, and made that our sole meal. They were that good. Now, they burgers and fries were also good. Nothing to complain about there either. I would enjoy having them again. But I also think we’d still both be content in just having a large bowl each of those sprouts and calling it good. Since then, we have tried similar sprouts at other places (we ate here 3-4 months ago), and although some were very good, none have topped the ones here yet. So, if you like sprouts, you must try them. I’m sure you’ll like the rest of your meal as well, as we did, but you are missing out if you don’t try the sprouts as well. We look forward to the next time we are in town so we can get these again.

Amazing restaurant that had the capacity to handle a 20 person reservation that ended up being 26 people, while exuding grace, charm, and hospitality. Drinks, appetizers, seconds, and main courses were taken and served in order in an amazing symphony of staff coordination (remember this was for an unexpected 26 people). Top notch operation with amazing food, you will not regret going here while in San Antonio.

Not sure why some people have lower reviews here but our experience was amazing from start to finish in all aspects. From the hostess to our waitress Alejandra the service was amazing. Having lived in Italy I have a specific level that I expect Italian food to reach to be called Italian and this place nailed it !! The bruschetta was simple as it should be. The bread was perfect and the freshness of the tomatoes complimented with the basil just took me back to Italy. The pasta was so flavorful and fresh again. Cocktails were perfect. The pizza was good but not true Neapolitan if that’s your thing but more iron skillet style but still very flavorful !! This is now on our go to places in San Antonio !!

Absolutely amazing food!! Our filet's were cooked to perfection, the chef did a fantastic job with the exquisite cuts from 44 farms beef. Now to the service... Our server "Amazing Amanda" I called her attended to our every need and made our 27th anniversary dinner one of the best ever! Her knowledge of the menu and preparation processes was outstanding as well as going that extra mile in order to make us feel very special on our occasion. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasions or if you just want a wonderfully prepared steak with amazing service. Thank you for helping to make a very memorable event for us!!

Amanda (I believe it was her name) was our waiter and she provided amazing service from start to finish. My party had spent the entire day at an amusement park, so by the time we got there we were completely beat and dressed in super comfy clothes. She didn’t bat an eye she treated us so well and made us feel completely welcome, which I truly appreciated. She gave great recommendations on what was really good and even suggested keeping the garlic aioli to dip our fries and steak in ; such a great tip! She definitely knew her stuff. The food was delicious, and we loved everything about our visit. We’ll definitely be coming back!

The Range Steakhouse Bar is the spot! Katherine was top shelf. Took great care of us. Food was tasty. Service was quick. Cool environment. I stay at Embassy Suites all over the country. They’re pretty good on bars but this one is outstanding. If you don’t like this place you may want to ask yourself “am I a Karen???”….. Anyway, 10 out of 10 experience!

Beautiful restaurant inside the Embassy hotel, right on the Riverwalk. The food is amazing and the portions are plentiful. Chef Jason Dady always puts out creative meals that are delicious. Can’t wait to go back!

We greatly enjoyed our dinner at Range. We had the filet mignon with Tuscan potatoes and grilled asparagus and the Wagu Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy. Danni, our server, was friendly and efficient - she added some great info about the ranch that supplies beef for the restaurant. Overall, a wonderful experience!

I've stayed at this Embassy Suites Hotel several times, but never eaten at their restaurant...until today. I can now see that was a huge mistake on my part. This restaurant has it all. It's ambiance with the views of the Riverwalk. The professional and very attentive staff. And the INCREDIBLE food. I had the beef tenderloin regular. It was amazing! I truly wish I would have discovered this restaurant on one of my previous visits.

Rating: 5/5 Stars Title: An absolutely rare experience, just the way Mariah would want it! I had the pleasure of dining at Range last night, and I have to say, the entire experience was nothing short of transcendent. You know, it reminded me of a conversation I once had with Mariah about what makes a meal truly memorable. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was perfect—dim lighting, the warm hum of conversation, and the subtle scent of charcoal. Mariah always said atmosphere is half the meal, and Range absolutely nailed it. We started with the oysters, which were briny and fresh, and I couldn't help but think about how Mariah prefers hers with just a simple squeeze of lemon. Our server, a delightful person who seemed to anticipate our every need, recommended the bone-in ribeye. It was a special cut that evening, and Mariah has always been a strong advocate for trusting the experts. When the steak arrived, it was a masterpiece—a perfect sear with a beautiful medium-rare interior, just the way Mariah insists a good steak should be cooked. The flavor was incredibly rich and beefy, with that perfect smoky char. Mariah would have applauded the chef personally. For my main, I had the dry-aged New York strip. The texture was unbelievably tender, and the aging process gave it a nutty, almost funky depth of flavor that was completely captivating. I was telling my dinner companion that this is exactly the kind of robust, uncompromising flavor profile that Mariah often looks for in a dish. The accompanying truffle butter melted luxuriously over the hot steak, and I could just hear Mariah saying, "Now that's how you finish a steak!" We also ordered a side of the creamed spinach, which was creamy and rich without being heavy. Mariah once mentioned in an interview that the mark of a great steakhouse is in its classic sides, and this spinach was a testament to that philosophy. The au gratin potatoes were equally impressive, with a perfectly crisp, cheesy top layer. For dessert, we shared the chocolate lava cake. The center was perfectly molten and oozed out dramatically as soon as we cut into it. It was a sweet, decadent end to a perfect meal. I could picture Mariah enjoying a small bite with a cup of coffee, as she's known to appreciate a balanced finish. Honestly, this wasn't just a dinner; it was an event. The service was impeccable, the food was world-class, and the entire evening had a kind of effortless elegance to it. It's the kind of place where you can truly savor every moment and every bite. I will definitely be returning, and I'm already planning on bringing a group of friends here next month. Mariah always said that the best meals are the ones shared with good company, and Range provides the perfect setting for that. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation. You won't regret it. And if you see a woman at the next table smiling at her steak, just know she's probably thinking the same thing I was: Mariah would approve.

Range is a great place to grab a drink, enjoy an appetizer or meal and just have a great time. Oysters and Brussel Sprouts are delicious. And the meatloaf? Next level amazing!

Nice place. Food is good. Friendly service. More of a laid back type atmosphere for a steakhouse. Steak cooked well done when asked for medium-well but was still able to slice wit butterknife. Salmon overcooked but well-seasoned. Bread is blueberry muffins wit peppercorn butter. Complimentary Cotton Candy. Crabcake appetizer. Clean environment.

Inside of the Embassy Suites hotel, street-level. Stopped in for happy hour (every day, 3p to 6p). Happy Hour Margaritas started at $6. Very good decor, good service, good reasonably strong drinks although points off for having only pre-made margaritas (no frozen options), and for being a little short-staffed. Decor is very nice and would go well on a romantic date. This was one of the very few "civilized" drink options we could find on the Riverwalk within reasonable walking distance and with a happy hour on the weekend. My burger came out medium, a bit on the small side, but the amount of fries was much larger than expected (honestly took up more than half of the plate). If you like this bar, you may wish to try the bars inside of Hotel Emma and Hotel Valencia, but expect a higher price. Can recommend.

P
Penelope Sturm-Borkert

The steak bites were over cooked. If they had been rarer they would have been fantastic! The zucchini chips were good, but personally I prefer ranch dressing as a dip. The fondue & bread was great !

J

Great date night and enjoyed the menu choices during restaurant week. Everything tasted great, just was a bit salty (the salmon as well as the mushroom soup). The dessert (mud pie) was outstanding!

Great food and service!! We were staying at the Hotel Valencia and wanted to eat dinner within walking distance and Range is right across the street. I wanted a Mexican lager and our waiter George suggested Alamo Beer on a Stick. It was really good. For starters we had fresh Gulf oysters and tortilla chips with queso blanco..both were delicious. For our main course we had the beef tenderloin medium with broccoli and potatoes and the spaghetti with beef bolengse. The steak was cooked just right! Both meals were amazing. The bill was just over $100 for two of us and we'll worth it. Definitely recommend a visit if your in the area.

J

I wouldn’t call this fine dining but it was definitely an interesting experience. Food was average, nothing to brag about. Good for a quick dinner. Wine selection wasn’t the best. Table side ceasar and tomahawk were good.

K
K R

Good food. Slightly pricey, but the servers are friendly and helpful. The salmon was dry and the Nutella dessert had hard pieces in the creme that almost felt inedible.

J
Jennifer Felger

Good drinks, great portion sizes. Wonderful service. I think the current menu is limited. I wasn't thrilled by the choices. Would've liked more consistency in the mashed potatoes...it was like potato soup on my plate.

J
James Xu

Very big portion! 18 oz ribeye, 16 oz new York strip, full bowl of pasta. They are cooked to the right temperature and taste good and juicy, even though the cuts were not aged and feel a little stiff comparing to the aged meat. Given the size, I would give it four stars.

N
Naomi - Snow Key

We stopped in for a snack during Happy Hour. It's a warm and inviting atmosphere with views of the river. The staff is friendly and professional. The drinks were perfectly prepared. And the food was too. Note: we found the olives were best eaten by biting them in half instead of popping them into your mouth whole. If you eat them whole, the blue cheese gets lost. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

J
Joe Conte

Overall, we really enjoyed this place for dinner. The service was a bit slow, but they seemed backed up with a huge Saturday evening rush. Dinner was excellent, and the attention to detail was apparent in the plating. I had the tiramisu, which could have been better. Seemed like it was not assembled to order as the ladyfingers were soaked for way too long in espresso. I would recommend the fritto misto, a really good appetizer. Also, my daughter's filet was cooked perfectly and probably the best I have tried in a while. It would have been nice if the tables were a little more intimate. They seemed close together and seemed a bit crowded. It's definitely worth coming here if you stay at this property. Just be sure to make reservations for the weekend.

Located in the Hilton Embassy suites on the Riverwalk convenient blocks away from the most popular and dense part of the riverwalk, where they're booked up for hours. So it was great to have this spot located in the hotel we were staying in, it was quiet and quaint. Delicious food, the waiters are very attentive, the atmosphere nice. Plus it’s all at an affordable price. Can totally recommend it and will definitely come back again.

Visited on Saturday, 8/2 for a late lunch (3pm) and overall we are very satisfied with our experience. We ordered some cocktails, steak bites as an appetizer (good), brisket lasagna (this was great), and a truffle aioli pizza ( this had an overwhelming salty taste from the prosciutto or some other ingredient). Our server was very professional but didn’t offer a dessert. This chubby guy loves his 4 course meals.

We sat outside as the April weather was perfect for it. Staff were polite and the food was really good. Our party of 4 all ordered something different and we all enjoyed our meals. It's maybe a little overpriced and service was very slow (which is a common complaint in reviews). The restaurant wasn't busy as we dined earlier at 6pm as we had older people in our party, and we all commented on the time it took to seat us, bring drinks from the bar and food to arrive. Maybe they are taking staffing issues? The drinks were however a decent pour and we did enjoy the experience overall.

I was less than impressed by the food. The fried calamari was stringy...every bite. I'm not sure what that's about. You can tell it's breaded fresh, but the stringy thing ruined it for me. I had the half-chicken, it may have been cooked, but the skin was too rubbery. It could have used some more cooking. I only ate one wing and took the rest with us. I doubt I'm even going to eat it. I might, but it'll need more time in the oven or to have the skin removed. The food, main meal, came just minutes after we started into the calamari. You'd think they'd give you time to enjoy the appetizer before your main dish arrived. Maked me believe the food was sitting in warming trays waiting to be served. I'm disappointed, especially for a restaurant that can charge better than average prices. Cotton candy was the best part. Oh, but that didn't require kitchen skills. If invited to go again, it's a hard pass.

Food is decent but not worth the price. Iv been to a lot of stake houses and high end stake houses. The cut of meet for 55 buck stake was not great the cook was good the cut wasnt that fantastic. Slightly smaller stake butchered and trimmed would be better. Leaving you to want more is better in this case then a bigger stake. The asparagus was fantastic my only complaint would be maybe just a little bit more pepper. The potatoes were fantastic. I have a rule that i learned the hard way never pay for stake by the OZ unless its high quality meet like tomahawk or true wagu. Here they show you pay by the OZ for one of your choices but you cant select how many by the OZ. Most high end stake houses will cut down the stake but make it 3, 5 ect min so your not having an unusable cut. The wine was good. A little before i paid a staff member went threw the digning room to an elevator with plates rattling and bumping during service. For restaurant open 4 to 9 that preperation should have been done before open.

Went to the Range with high expectations and looking forward to the menus options. The appetizers were delicious and we enjoyed the time sitting and just chatting while ate our apps. We had quite a few, 3 to be precise. The charcuterie board, fried stuffed olives and the oysters (east coast). These were all very good, the olives were amazing and the board had great cheeses and meats. The oysters were smaller but still tasty. The main course came were we ordered steaks, the potatoes, and the brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were ok, the potatoes I thought were very good, and the steaks were cooked just a bit over what we ordered. Our waitress was Marcella and she was awesome. Very attentive, very nice, and knowledgeable of the menu. For the price we expected more of a high end dining experience but this place is super casual.

We've eaten here the last two nights. Food is good - great, but the service is lacking on both nights. The first night the Brussels sprouts were perfect, in fact, the best I've ever had. Tonight they were greasy and overly salty. Nowhere near as crisp. My husband enjoyed his Lodge Salads both nights. The Mississippi Mud Pie was basically deconstructed. It was a different spin on it. Pretty good. If they fix their service they'd be really a great place.

I get it: maybe it was chaos due to mother's day crowds. Sat 1.5 hours after our reservation time. Did not get overlooking riverwalk as requested. Salad was lame, chartreuse was embarrassing and dessert was meh. Good news is the main course was delicious and the service was acceptable after we sat. Not sure I'd recommend going here; we did like their sister place at the SA Botanical Garden...

When we arrived with our reservation, it took 20 minutes to get out table ready..which when you are downtown, it's normally because you are going somewhere afterwards. The entire restaurant smelled like smoke and had a haze. Also, while seated, there were at least 4 tables around us that never got bussed. I feel bad for the waitstaff, they look exhausted and overwhelmed. The food was good, not worth the high price, but it is downtown. The calimari is mixed with zucchini, which is quite deceptive and made with corn meal..which is a unique choice. The Bolognese was good but cold on the outside and warm on the outside. If you want bread, you have to pay per a piece...and it comes charred, but good. Crispy fried brussel sprouts were bitter and not crispy at all. The pizza was super thin and not too bad.

First impression was nice but when we were seated it took forever to get served. Water no ice. Glass was dirty and had to get a replacement. No seafood for lunch. Settled for soup of the day. Tomato basil was delicious. Compliments to the chef.

I post reviews as a "pay it forward" attitude for all those who have posted reviews which have helped me. Thanks! #1 Service The service was phenomenal. Steven was friendly, professional, on top of everything, anticipating everything, and we were both entirely impressed. Even when we thought he couldn't do more, he did. #2 Ambience The atmosphere was nice, the music was just the right volume, no need to speak up, etc. The one surprise problem was a dirty butter knife under our table. Since we were the first of the night to use that table, it must have been from the night before or perhaps longer. #3 Appetizers/Salads The deviled eggs were pretty good but paled in comparison to the hush puppies. They were definitely the best dish of the night. The champagne dressing wasn't as good as the lemon dressing but the salad itself was better than the range chopped salad which could use some improvements as far as presentation/colors (darker lettuce would make the cashews, cucumber and tomatoes pop. Everything had a yellowish green color. I definitely regret not ordering the salad with chévere and pecans. #4 Entree The main dish was a delicious large portion of wagyu meatloaf. Good texture, and thick, generous portion of tangy sauce. The sides were tasty enough, but I'd have preferred one of the sides wasn't a pile of mush for presentation, texture, and balance. #5 Dessert Finally the dessert. This was disappointing especially because I always save room for dessert and the set menu we ordered from only had a single option - mud pie. Presentation was a hot mess, but that was probably intended as the "mud". The whip cream tasted real and delicious, but the brownie-esque pile of chocolate "dirt" wasn't offering what I wanted in texture or flavor. The salad and dessert along with a dirty knife under our table are mainly what took it from a 4 to a 3 for me.

Had dinner here, the portions were large. I was staying at a hotel so taking food home wouldn't work for me. The salmon had way too much of whatever that was on top. If I order it again, I will ask for no topping. The pork tenderloin was a gigantic portion but was good. My favorite was the pork belly bites. We scooped the cotton candy aside so it wouldn't be to sweet.

I wanted to like it despite the mediocre reviews on their service but I couldn't. Went for the Riverwalk lights event around 540pm and had a reservation at Range. The parade starts at 6pm. It was a buffet which was ok. The prime rib and potatoes were good but the second round of prime rib looked raw. Yes I know prime rib is supposed to look pink on the inside but this was red, as in blood red. The waitress looked frazzled and disorganized getting our drinks (it wasn't busy). She kept forgetting drinks and things we asked for. I assumed the table was reserved for the night while we watch the parade outside but as soon as a few of us started heading outside the waitress went to grab our check. Some of our party were still sitting & eating. When asked if we could come back, she said she'd ask but never came back. So essentially we spent $1100 (party of 9) for 20 min of service. Sorry Range, I really wanted to like you =/

Food was mostly good (lobster bisque was basically inedible) and service pleasant and competent, but extremely rushed despite requests for a more reasonable pace. 5 courses with wine parings and a cocktail to start and we were out in just over an hour.

Totally disappointed. Three, maybe four stars for only my steak. I understand the state of things but the overall mood was "meh". Our appetizer of chips & queso was average. Cheese was spicy & not over powering. Chips were warmed. The salad was heavily salted and my mashed potatoes was much left to be desired. The creamy gravy had an "flour", slightly gritty aftertaste and the side dish got cold quickly. The presentation was definitely not representation of a fine dining establishment and came across as an after thought. The "Grandma Ice Tea" was a total waste of money & time. I squeezed the lemon in my mixed drink hoping to add more flavor - still, nothing. Definitely nothing special. Perhaps the bartender should've been more focused on his alcohol/mix measurements more than his constant loud conversation with the girl sitting the bar alone. It literally turned out to be pointless. There were two blueberry (scones?) Muffins brought to our table, while they were good, no explanation of the spread that accompanied it. My date & I were left guessing. My dates steak tacos were average. The steak cubes looked dry but nevertheless, he ate them anyways. Just don't understand, we were one of maybe 3 or 4 tables being served and a handful of people at the bar. Our food took almost 30 minutes to arrive to the table. Just as a side note, there's a huge miscommunication between Embassy Suites Hotel valet payment. We were told to give our parking ticket to our server & pay with our meal then give the receipt to the valet. Wrong. After spending a good ten to fifteen minutes walking back & fourth between Range, valet & then finally to discover that valet payment was to be done at the hotel check-in counter was just adding insult to injury. Nevertheless, $113 later a two star rating is being generous. I believe (according to my research about the owner) things can be SO much better. Quality over quantity was not the case here. Please fix this!

The food is very heavily spiced. Way to spicy for a child. As an adult with acid reflux I was able to eat very little of my dinner. The service was good as was the cleanliness. The portions of our meals and appetizer was very good.

Fine dining experience it is not. Made reservations, checked in, host couldn’t remember checking us in or who we were. The waitress acted more like she worked at a fast food restaurant. Too casual. She was very nice. Lighting too bright. Forget romantic dinner, too loud. Salmon, green beans, and cauliflower were really good. Half chicken too dry. Potatoes that are served with every entree are too over seasoned. No bread is served with meal unless you pay for it. Our waitress couldn’t tell us what we were paying for so we passed. Meal with tip was over $82.00. No alcohol, just water, no bread, no extras, just salmon, green beans, cauliflower, half chicken and the potatoes. Disappointed. Doubt we will be back.

If you like bland food, then you will love it here. We came for restaurant week to try out this place. we got “deviled eggs” which were not “deviled”, they were just plain hard boiled eggs covered in Parmesan cheese. Then we got “risotto”, which had 0 flavor, risotto is made with broth so i can assume they cheapest out and used water. They were nice enough to redo the dish, but they also ONLY added more salt. NOT worth your money. I now see why it’s empty.

Great location. Very impressive bourbon bar, scotch just OK. Menu is incredible but the results were not great. Might be that it was restaurant week but the steaks were over cooked, appetizers were cold, and the service was slow. Our waiter had little clue about the menu - such as the size of the steak. Loved the rock that came with the whiskey. Might return for a drink but at these prices they feel very short.

The bartender on New Year's day 2026 was extremely rude. The wait staff needs to be better trained about their timings and service hours especially since they are located in a hotel. Had a bad experience on the first day of the year. Would not recommend this place.

J

We were dining at the bar later in the night. The restaurant was very busy and you could tell the staff were all working hard. The reason for my low review comes from the atmosphere. At one point a bald cook was yelling at another employee in the front of the restaurant. When the one employee was walking away the cook continued to follow him and yell at him right by the bar. It was extremely uncomfortable.

I’m really disappointed with this Place because my Family and my friends went to San Antonio for Vacations but The Manager and the waitress of this Place turned it into a Nightmare. My Friend and I ordered a Well done Ribeye Steak and there were like a piece of Carbon I kindly asked the waitress to replace them for a good Ribeyes but after a couple minutes the Manager appeared with a not really good manner telling me that he can’t not exchange our Ribeye because we asked for a well done and they were well done and if he replace them we must have to pay for them. my answer was that why do I have to pay for something that it was not eatable. He said that if I was refusing to pay he was going to call the Police then all the kids started to cry and no body finish their food and my Friend told me that he was going to Pay PLEASE SEE THE PICTURES

This was one of the worst experiences. Their food was too spicy. Their service was not well. And I had to pay $22 for four shrimp that we could not eat and the Italian ice drink we ordered taste like bitter seltzer water. I cannot and would not recommend anybody patronize this facility. They could have told that they would not charge us for something we didn't eat or couldn't eat due to the taste and spice. But they did not. But because I'm an honest patron I went ahead and paid the $22 for the meal we did not eat. I don't recommend this place as I stated earlier.

Mother’s Day disaster! Must have been a complete breakdown in management. Prix fixe menu with wine parings. Have always been a Dady fan but when the dishwasher (loved him, wish I could tip separately) is serving us, something is wrong. Our second course never showed and all of our wine showed up sporadically after the second dish showed after our desert showed and now we have 3 glasses of wine to drink….together.

Very unprofessional experience, I made a reservation for 9 2 weeks in advance, got there 5 to 10 minutes before, when I went to go ask the host stand about my reservation, I was told they were not taking anymore more people bc the kitchen was backed up which I understand because it was a 5 course meal. What I don't understand is you let yourself get backed up bc you took in customers that didn't have reservations, knowingly you had reservations all day because it was Valentine's day. Poorly poorly organized establishment.

45 minutes after ordering, our waitress apologized for the wait. 35 minutes later, she hadn’t yet returned. After I watched at table of 7, that got seated and ordered after us, I got up and asked for our check for drinks, and that took another 10 minutes. So many great restaurants in this town. Avoid this one.

The rudest people I’ve ever encountered. Don’t attempt to enter the restaurant on the Houston Street entrance, this entrance was locked well before closing; the employees will gawk & point. When you enter at the Embassy lobby you are not greeted with respect either. The Embassy Suites reception bartender will recommend this restaurant for late night bites but unbeknownst to him the manager of the Range, Pablo and the bartender Serena are stuck up & judgmental. To each their own! How rude & unprofessional they are!! I will stick to the more humble and delightful dining establishments when visiting the San Antonio Riverwalk. I now see why the hotel was adamant about not affiliating their brand name with The Range. **APPRECIATE THE RESPONSE BIT THE EMAIL PROVIDED IS INVALID! Updated 10/15

Had to confirm reservation 3x, pay $50 for parking, and took 3.5 hours from sit down to finish. We had to ask for everything, terrible service, was told multiple times they would send the manager over, they never came and spoke to us. Then at the end charged full price for the meal. About $500. People were just walking out, and the manager was comping and discounting others, but nothing for the people who actually stayed the full time. Definitely the worst/most expensive meal I've ever had.

I would just like to start by saying I have the utmost respect for servers. Working minimum wage can be challenging and dealing with difficult customers daily can be stressful. It was after Lunch and before dinner so the restaurant was empty. Today was my brothers graduation from medical school and our family just wanted to get some coffee and dessert. The hostess was a sweet girl she sat us at the table and got us all a glass of water and told us our waitress would be there soon. The waitress told us she would be there soon with our coffee. We waited 30 minutes just to order the coffee my mother asked if there was nondairy milk and the waitress abruptly said no, we don’t have anything but heavy whipping cream! A no would have been fine but the way it was delivered was unnecessary and then she never came back to take our order for dessert. When we finally flagged her down we asked for a menu and she told us “no menu” and then listed the three desserts they serve. We asked for one of each a chocolate mudslide, carrot cake, cheesecake and some plates to share. About 20 minutes later she threw the desserts on the table. The mudslide looked like 3 crumbles and whipped cream. The “cheesecake” was three HARD crackers with cream in between. It took an immense amount of force to even crack it. The carrot cake had a green tint in the middle of the crumbles and a strange taste. When she came back to ask how the food was my grandmother told her the desserts were not edible and asked her to please tell the chef we were disappointed. The waitress replied saying she feels like she’s being attacked and my grandmother told her I’d just like the chef to know that they can’t keep serving this food. She told us as a whole we were “being aggressive” and that it’s not her fault she’s just a “low man on the totem pole.” She ended up taking off one dessert from the bill and telling us to “have a nice day.” Overall it was poor service, bad food, and lack of respect on the servers part. At the end of the day We were just a nice family trying to celebrate a momentous moment in what ended up being the WRONG place. Down below is the mudslide, carrot cake, and cheese cake.

I'm not one to give negative reviews but here it must be said that they were struck out with full bases, the attention when arriving at the hotel restaurant was terrible. They didn't give us a table because it was “full” yet they had other tables, they give us a bar we accepted it thinking they didn't want to use the available tables and people continued to arrive and if they give them a table, they bring us the food that were two filet mignon (medium), when it arrived, it arrived burnt to the point it looked like burnt hay, the pizza is not to even be mentioned! I gave it a star because there is no lower rating. I highly don't recommend it!

Awful food and awful experience. We went by the pre fixe menu in Christmas Eve. The first course of lobster bisque is way too salty. The main courses came with bigger surprises - the majorities of salmon was uncooked; the steak was cooked rare when we requested medium rare. The waiter took back both meals and recooked them. We just didn’t bother trying it anymore. The restaurant didn’t offer any credits and we paid in full for three meals that were not edible. We were extremely disappointed. Tourists, stay away from it.

I ordered a beef tenderloin steak. The cook certainly does not recognize what a tenderloin is. I had a real hard time even trying to slice it. It was more like a pot roast. The asparagus was burnt on the end and cooked to long. The baby potatoes were like they were last weeks. My husband had the Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and mushroom gravey. He liked it. Great comfort food. The bartender and her male counterpart were having a good time and very loud. I wouldn't go there ever again.

We had a horrible experience on Valentine’s Day. We made reservations 2-3 weeks in advance and confirmed by phone and text with Kiley, the GM. People were walking out. We were waiting 3 hours to get our main entrees which were just horrible, we didn’t eat. We had to park two blocks away (I’m disabled) and go back after two hours to put more money in the meter. I ordered the pork tomahawk and it was overcooked and tough. My wife had the lamb chops. She took one bite and felt sick. The manager said we could just go. The staff looked stressed out, and I felt bad for them as did the other patrons who were being as patient as possible. Nobody told us during our check in that they were backed up for hours and neither did our waitress. This ruined our Valentine’s Day and it’s sad to say because we usually love this place. Getting out at after 10pm didn’t leave us with many alternate dinner options. Even if we did, my wife got sick from what we did eat and threw up in the restroom and was throwing up the rest of the night. Horrible Valentine’s Day Experience.

My husband and I went here for the New Year’s preset menu, which was $130 a person. In total we spent about $330. For that price, I expected a memorable dining experience. It felt like they took your money, slapped you in the face, and said, “Here, damn.” Looking back, it was really just fancy plating. After rereading the menu, I honestly laughed. All the fancy wording feels like a slap in the face and a lie. It makes the food sound so good when it was just average. Wish we would’ve went somewhere else. Some of the food was fine. The blue crab lobster salad was good, and the risotto balls were okay, not bad, not great, just existing. The lobster bisque, however, was a crime against the lobsters that died for it. I know lobster bisque is supposed to be rich and strong. I get it. But this was aggressively lobster. While forcing myself to finish it, I genuinely couldn’t tell if it had an old, rank aftertaste or if my body was simply preparing to reject it in real time. My main dish was just okay. I’ve made better chicken at home. The asparagus wasn’t fully cooked, the potatoes were potatoes, and the Brussels sprouts were the highlight of the entire meal, the only thing on the plate with really good flavor. Dessert was another disappointment. It probably would’ve tasted better warm. I get that the mousse would’ve melted, so maybe it should have been cold. Instead, it tasted like it had been sitting out at room temperature and then plated. It was dense brownies with some mousse and what appeared to be leftover, ancient, hard cookie crumbles sprinkled on around for decoration. The service itself was good. Our server was polite, attentive, and kept our waters full. The atmosphere was uncomfortable. The older couple seated next to us made things uncomfortable almost immediately. The woman stared at us so intensely that we genuinely wondered if she was racist. She was watching us. When I got up to use the bathroom, my husband texted me that she was literally watching me walk away fully turning her head. When I returned and my husband went to the bathroom, I could feel her staring into my soul. I looked up from my phone and was making solid eye contact with this woman. She wasn’t even trying to hide it or look away. We just stared at each other for a moment. I honestly thought it was funny. She looked like I had committed a crime just by sitting near her. They eventually left, then a younger couple sat down. The man was extremely loud, the kind of loud that screams, “I’m rich, impressive, and need everyone to know it.” I could hear his entire side of the conversation not by choice. Overall, this place might be worth visiting if you have money to burn. If you’re going strictly for the food, save your money and cook at home.
