my favorite place for breakfast tacos, idk what they do in that kitchen but damn! they’re always delicious and for a good price. always get take out, though, so idk about the atmosphere and such.
Been going here for the past 13 years and its still delicious! They open early just incase you need your tacos at 5am or if you want lunch, the food always stays hot and stays so good!
Our family has been going here for about a decade. The best flavors too! We highly suggest this place. :)
Small taqueria with a small town feel. Always have a nice attitude and consistently good food. They have a really good breakfast deal as well!
Authentic tex-mex done right. The Service is fast and the restaurant is clean. Inexpensive but delicious options including tacos, breakfast, and plate lunches and dinners. The salsa is really good as well.
I love coming here. This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of San Antonio. I usually get my food to go. It’s easy to find good tacos in San Antonio, but the ones here are some of the best. The service is always top notch for me (other reviewers that say otherwise must’ve had a one-off bad experience). The wait is usually next to nothing. I intend on coming back over and over.
I’ve been coming here since 2006. Some recipes changed for a little bit but it looks like they were changed back. Regardless the food is excellent.
My wife had Menudo and Barbacoa tacos with fresh tortillas homemade and I had pork chops and huevos à la Mexicana. The service is great. The food was delicious and a bargain. I will be back.
I love coming here. The staff is Super friendly. And thiey have good specials for breakfast tacos. I wish they were open all day.
Amazing choice of homemade food, we were amazed at all the options and loved the delicious food! It was absolutely the best we've had in a long time. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! Wonderful service too
This is by far one of my favorite breakfast places in the 1604 / UTSA area. They have great tacos and menudo I highly recommend giving it a try.
When I first moved here from the west side I was afraid of having to drive far for good breakfast. When we discovered this place in 2004 it remided us of our old neighborhood, happy to eat here to this day. Really great food, good service, owned by same family I believe?
Good authenic Mexican food. Serves breakfast tacos all day (with a $1 up charge after 11am). Lunch plates are also well portioned and very tastey. My husband and I come here often and have not had a bad experience. Highly recommend.
This place is a gem. The servers are nice, the food is great and the atmosphere is exactly what you’d want in a proper Mexican restaurant. Very fairly priced too.
When you walk in the door of this establishment. You can smell the aroma of Mexican spices. The plates had a very good look to them. The food was very tasty. Our server was very friendly and quick to refill our tea. I'd recommend this place to definitely come back and eat at again.
Great breakfast tacos fresh tortillas and excellent service
We were able to get a table right away. The service was good & prompt. Our food was very tasty. We did feel the prices were a bit high. But, overall it was a good experience..
That was the best charizo bean and egg taco I ever had. Highly recommend.
We love eating at Taqueria Aguascalientes. Everything we've had here has been great. We usually take our food to go but recently got the chance to sit and eat. Service was a bit slow but everyone was friendly and got us exactly what we wanted. I love the feel here. Everything feels authentic.
A true authentic San Antonio style Mexican Restaurant. Great homemade flour tortillas. Excellent carne guisada. Great barbacoa. Excellent service. Come and check this place out if your in the area. If you’re not, it’s worth the drive.
Really great food and good prices! Service was great as well!
First visit. Cars in their lots and a few tables available. 9:30 am on Saturday morning. It appeared one of the waitresses was brand new as she didn't know where a spoon was located. Not being critical, just observant. Service was slow, but the wait staff was hustling, just over worked this morning. We walked in and found an available table as there wasn't a "wait to be seated" sign visible. It took a few minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence despite walking past the table several times. Menues were on the table, so we started looking. By the time someone took our drunk order, we were ready to order food, but weren't given the chance. As soon as I mentioned coffee, she turned to the coffee bar to make a pot - they were out of coffee. She brought the coffee, but no spoon. When I caught the new waitresses attention and asked if I could please have a spoon, she turned to another waitress who showed he where they were. They brought our food, and I had to ask for salsa. It took a few trips past me before she grabbed some and set it on the table. Food was good. Daughter had bean & cheese tacos and I had a barbacoa taco and a machacado taco. The barbacoa was not too fatty, and the machacado was not gristly at all. The food was delicious and well prepared. I waited til the line at the register went down. No ticket was brought to the table. I told her what table number (on the napkin dispensers) was ours and she rung it up. Overall it was a good experience, and I left a 40% tip to encourage their progress. Next time I'm in the neighborhood for breakfast, I will definitely return!
Went today during some downtime and it was more than just a delicious meal, it was an experience. Upon taking my order the staff got up, went to the kitchen, started blasting Mexican music, and went straight to cooking. I got no idea how anyone can have a bad time when the atmosphere is that fun. Asides from the environment, the complementary chips and salsa was absolutely amazing, and then my meal itself was large and plentiful. I spent 13 dollars for so much food! I am able to eat plenty and still have enough food leftover for breakfast or lunch tomorrow. It’s a hidden but well beloved gem, I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who likes good food!
I was a little skeptical of going to a new place but let me tell you all the food was amazing. I ordered the Barbacoa plate. Serving size was good. The meat was not greasy at all, which I love. My mother had the Chilaquiles Mexicanos plate and it was also very good. My son had the chorizo and potato taco and it was so good. Service was good and all for an amazing price! Definitely will be stopping by in the future when I come to San Antonio.
I've been curious about this restaurant for quite some time. I finally pulled in and enjoyed lunch. Beef enchiladas were scrumptious, and the huge bowl of fideo was tasty as well. The staff were friendly the waitress could have been a bit more attentive. I'll be back to try other items on their menu. I hear their breakfast is good. Prices were reasonable
First time here was nervous about to head this way incase it’s a long wait. It’s wasn’t. You walk in it’s self seating or you can get in line and order. Serve the best chips and salsa. I ordered the menudo and barbacoa taco. will update: it was an absolute delicacy! Will be returning before we head back home. And for many years to come .
Food is very good and well served, big portions so order carefully. The only not so good thing is the super slow service, appart from that is a very good option for breakfast and lunch.
The staple items are best here. The more exotic items are average. Let's face it, you go here because of Hills and Dale's, which makes it taste better... lol Breakfast is quite good. Enchiladas even better. Better than average for sure but not a standout in San Antonio.
This is our 1st visit here for breakfast on Sunday morning. The tacos were good, but the homemade tortillas were on point! Only downside is that there were lots of people waiting for tables. There is literally no staff to take names to be put on wait list; very unorganized. BUT still willing to give it another try.
Ordered breakfast tacos to go. Loved the chips and the salsa, very good. Tacos aren't very big, which is ok, so you can order a few different options. They are all delicious. Homemade and authentic. Didn't take long, was in and out in 15 minutes. Will stop in again when in San Antonio again.
Food is hot and delicious. There is table service. Cash and credit cards are welcomed. Parking lot and building is small. Lunch time it is packed. Service is quick but don't expect any smiles . Prices are reasonable. Tables are close to each other. Do not expect private conversations.
I recently moved from the South Side to the Rim area, and I’m so glad to have found a taqueria that reminds me of home. This isn’t a big chain or an overpriced “Mexican” restaurant—it’s a real, authentic spot that serves food the way it’s meant to be coming from a traditional taqueria. The flavors, the atmosphere, everything feels genuine just like the taquerias I grew up with.
My friend picked up some breakfast tacos from this place and I love it! Very delicious, so many options, and very affordable. I highly recommend this place!
We got the burritos and the beef fajita nachos(first time for lunch). The burritos were pretty good size and filling. The nachos didn’t have beef fajitas on them it was almost like beef jerky. It was almost closing time so that may have been why. Love the breakfast here though
Wednesday lunch hour visit. The sweet iced tea tasted like sweet tea, not sugar water. The chicken gorditas plate was very good. Bargain lunch if you've an appetite.
Great hole in the wall place. The breakfast tacos are good and reasonable. The service was great.
I walked in this morning and the lady behind the counter stared at me for about 10 seconds before she finally said hello. It seemed like all the other staff were too busy talking with each other instead of taking care of the customer. The food here is excellent. The service is questionable.
Food is good, came by to have some lunch after moving my daughter into her new apt. We were on a budget due to moving expenses, so we opted for water instead of our regular drinks. I think the waitress thought we were broke as we ordered light meals and water to drink. She brought out our order and never came back to check on us, never refilled our cups with water (moving furniture had us feeling really thirsty) didn't even come back to give our check. So expect okay food and bad service if you don't order "the works???" BTW we left her a tip anyway so maybe she'll try harder next time.
The food is delicious here... but the workers here pay more attention to the Caucasian then they do with the Hispanic... sorry to say ..I had to wait 20 mins at least for refills on coffee n water ..
Not bad. Had the chiliquiles breakfast plate, no cheese/added bacon. Home made corn tortillas. Pretty decent. Portions were ok on chiliquiles. Alot of refried beans that filled more than half the plate. Beans were good. Potatoes were fine. Just happened to be out this way. Really busy at this local spot that had a steady clientele. Give them a try 😉
Asked for sausage, bacon, egg, potato and cheese got chunks of sausage not breakfast sausage and no bacon. $30 for 6 tacos when special said $4.99 for 3
I've been going here for the past 4-5 years and the food has always been excellent, however the service lately is crumby. I order a breakfast plate w/ bacon and never got the bacon. Waited ten minutes no one came to my table to check on me...there wasn't even a waitress to flag down...terrible terrible service
The food was good -- not great, but good enough, with nice sized portions. I thought that the rice was too "chickeny" from broth, which isn't bad, but it was, otherwise, lacking flavor. The breakfast tacos are large, and served all day. I visited between the lunch rush and close, and did not have a waiting or service problems. The service was good and staff were pleasant.
Ice been there twice, only because I wanted to give them a second chance. Nothing special
Staff was friendly, spoke english great. Loved that they have homemade tortillas but my taco had lettuce and tomato and I wanted onion and cilantro. They have a small parking lot that has a bunch of potholes in it though. No free refills on agua fresca either. Also they charge more after 11am for tacos.
We came for breakfast lunch and the place was not busy at all. Therefore, we had good service and friendly staff. The food was good and tasty. The place could use a little bit of an update on the walls ceiling, basically it does not look fresh and there’s no attention to detail. The back wall has a very beautiful mural, but the counter area for the cashier and entrance to the kitchen appears dark and gloomy. We would prefer to come back only for to go orders. I repeat, the food is tasty and authentic.
The service is horrible. The food is good but as of lately they have been slacking on the cleaning. The waitresses look right at you and do nothing to help make your dining experience any better
It was good my freshman year at UTSA and now it sucks. I recentyl ordered an 1/2 lb. of barbacoa and it was literally soaking in grease. I ordered a torta today and the meat was dry as well as you could only taste the sour cream in it. Plus it was cold. The meat is dry, the barbacoa is super greasy, and its like they dont care no more. The sad truth.
1/1/2021: went this morning and the bacon was bad and tasted like it had been frozen for months. The chicharon tacos are just pork rinds scrambled with eggs. Coffee is not good. Personally, I hope the owner pushes for fresher and higher quality food standards because this place has gone down over the past 5 years.
Besides the bland attitude, breakfast tacos are not that great, save your money, I was trying to taste something new, .. food wasn't fresh, Tortillas were hard and tough to eat.. 2nd star cause I was hungry and I still had a taco.. can't be too mad..
Worst lunch ever to include the service, our waitress did not listen to our order, and the beef soup was extremely staly barley ate it. And the worst of all, our waitress did not even stop asking if we needed anything, which our drinks were out, and we even placed them at the end of the table, and she passed by twice. Horrible service. Will not return
👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼Menudo was all grease no flavor. Machacado lacked flavor as well. I don’t know where these good reviews came from , but they have clearly not had good authentic menudo before. Plus they gave us flour tortillas to go with it. I’ve always been served corn tortillas any place I’ve ordered menudo. The only good thing I do have to say is that the tortillas were good.
Good food been here about 4 times only thing that sucks is the waitress depending who you get it always takes long to get my drink and for the waitress to come back for a refill or check if I need something. And you hardly feel welcome no one smiles or greets you and I have to get the waitress attention every time I go just for a damm refill ..
When we walked in, one of the ladies was super welcoming and said good morning to us. The lady at the register was pretty rude though and overcharged us for our order. When it was time to pay she aggressively handed us our receipt to sign and the pen. She then slammed down the tip jar, that doesn’t make me want tip but I did anyway.
We were just looking for a place to get some tacos on our road trip, and thought this place fit the bill. Not only was it 20-30$/person, but the tacos were small and we had to stop somewhere else to get food afterwards. We got it to go but the place seemed empty but clean.
The tacos here ruined my morning. I was already having a bad day and decided to stop in for breakfast tacos to cheer myself up. I was excited driving home, happy to eat my bean, cheese, and bacon tacos. Little did I know how devastated I would be. They forgot my bacon and the tacos barely had any filling in them. The only flavor I found in the salsa was the salt from my tears. All for almost $3 a taco! Definitely disappointed in the quality of food here. The service staff was really nice though.
This restaurant has lost its good menu and service. It was good a few years ago. Until today, I had never had a carne guisada taco with lettuce and tomato. I just walked in and ordered something to go. The cashier seemed like she had heartburn with an attitude when I ordered. Of course, even the cashier asked for a tip. Nombre se salen.
Went in for breakfast, the girl at the front was very sweet however the waitress did not provide good service. We are a light complected Hispanic couple who were born and raised in the middle of San Antonio and this was not fresh authentic Mexican food. The young waitress sat at a table watching videos on her phone, I ordered coffee but she did not offer water and when our food came out they didn’t offer salsa although there was a darker Hispanic family sitting next to us to which they got better service and all the salas served with their food. My skin color does not reflect my culture and we were extremely offended by this. We will not be coming back.
I live down the street from there and tried it once. I mean once! I don't get how this place is so busy. They charge for every little thing there and the food was disgusting! I don't think people in SA know what good food is period because I have tried 5 star restaurants with much disappointment every time. Hence I never went back to this place! Go to Taco Bell around the corner or even better go to the food truck Singh's across the street.
The food was good but the waiting process took forever!! And there was literally other customers leaving as they didn't receive their menus and even drinks!! The drinks took about 25 minutes to get and we then got the food about 45 minutes later of contemplating of whether to leave or not!! I would not recommend coming here again!!
The place apparently was closed but they need to update their hours here. Wasted of time.
Why did I chose to eat here?!?!??! Their service is just..... gosh it was just TERRIBLE!!!! Good food but damn the wait. The waitress didn't give us menus or drinks when we sat their for over 10 minutes. When we got the food, they messed up our orders. Let me mention the wait before we got the food. Our family sat there waiting for over an hour and a half for the god damn food. Two other waitresses came to our table to help with our orders. Over all, this restaurant is not a place to eat because of the wait.
I thought I would give this place a try months after a previous disappointing experience. I ordered the Chilaquiles Mexicana, which comes with 2 sides, Refried Beans, and Papas rancheras. When it came out, the refried beans were not kidding 🧊ICE COLD🥶 and runny. The chilaquiles were also Stale, Soggy and Cold and had SHAKER PARMESIAN CHEESE instead of queso fresco! They could have asked "Since we are out of queso fresco, which cheese would you like?". I told the woman at the register that I really didn't like my food, and that it was ice cold. She apologized but that was it. Months later I thought I would give this place another chance, so last week I ordered $28 worth of tacos. They told me, my order was ready. I picked it up ,and when I got home, surprise the tacos were NOT what I ordered at all. Just a bunch of cold bacon and egg tacos. I should have checked the bag because my friends and I were upset when we realized the order was wrong. This has happened a few times in the past and now I know not to come to this restaraunt again. It's sad watching a restaraunt that was a staple of your childhood going downhill.
I thought this would be a nice change from where we usually go. Um, no. Super small and the food was atrocious. I had menudo. Um, it had no flavor, was really watery, and no posole it it. Just horrible. Then the carne guisada was bland, the food was just not worth the money at all. Super disappointed but, glad l went so now l know not to return 😓.
This Mexican restaurant has good food when things are available , my family and I just stop by for breakfast I ordered a Huevos rancheros plate simple right , husband got menudo and a carnitas tacos . Kids ordered a torta and bean &chesse . Waitress asked for our drinks and our order she quickly brought the drinks however about 25 min later another waitress lets us know they have carnitas available which is fine understandable, now another 20 min go by she lets us know they have no eggs like honestly EGGS I hate leaving bad reviews but this honestly was a disappointment we waste almost an hour when I went to pay for drinks the lady gave me ugly look the waitress apologized I let her know she’s fine it’s not her fault . Just sadly lost our business
Walked in and was totally ignored. I didn’t know you had to sit yourself. I finally asked and was given a wait a minute. Again ignored. I took that as sit yourself. I was going to leave but was told that their Pozole was delicious. My family and I sat, waited 15 minutes for menus , another 10 for coffee and water. I ordered the Pozole- it was not at all delicious. It was extremely salty, the pork tasted old. Instead of cabbage, I was given shredded old lettuce. My daughter ordered a steak burrito- horrible. The steak was so tough she had to open the burrito up and cut the steak into small pieces to avoid choking. My other daughter order a bean and cheese taco. The beans were extremely salty and tasted like they were from a can- no color. The taco was cold with chunks of shredded cheese that was not melted. I ordered a taco with chorizo and bean and took one bite- again horrible. Salty and extremely runny beans. It looked like diarrhea on my plate. My daughter ordered chorizo, egg and bean and they brought out a sausage, egg and bean. The taco was salty , cold and tasteless. My Coffee was never refilled. I will never go back to this restaurant. Trust me when I say it is horrible. Poor service, horrible tasting food- NEVER AGAIN. I will stay home and cook my own food.
first time and last time, right off the bat waitress was rude, asked us about drinks but then left tending to other people. When she finally returned she rushed us through ordering. Seemed bothered. The food was very mediocre. Eggs were that of a hospital. Not real eggs. Food lacked true Mexican flavor.
When we came to dine here, the server announced in a loud voice "Really? What time is it?" We were there at 2:30. They close at 3:00. It's not like we showed up 5 minutes before they close. No refills and no attention. Rushed to pay and leave. Extremely rude staff and food quality has gone down. I would recommend to dine somewhere else.
Our waitress was terrible the other ones were better . Walls by table have splatter all over them. Me and other customer ordered same plate mine seemed to miss the wraming oven . Chilaquiles were cold. This placed used to be better.
Place said it opens at 7am, They didn't!
For starters the waitress was very very ugly and rude, ugly manners. My daughter found a hair in her menudo. I asked her for straws and she threw them on the table. She never came back and asked us if we wanted us more water or tea. So my family and I left to pay and ask of all was ok. I told her NO and told her the issues. She lady said she was sorry and let the manager. And that's what she said a month ago also!!!
Probably the worst place I've been in quite sometime. Meat wasn't cooked. Tortillas trash. Service was bare minimum. And they should keep in mind that other people understand what they are saying and talking about your customers in Spanish as if we don't understand...do better. Won't be back.
Place says they are open, they are closed , no signs explaining anything. Waste of time.
The food was so bad I’m sorry but it was bad the experience was bad too . Got my order wrong and asked for my money back just for one plate because my appetite just left me and the lady said she didn’t know how to give me my money back. I just said ok fine waited to get the plate re made but honestly just wanted money back. It was super expensive not worth the money.
Prices have really gone up and food quality has gone done. Service was never great but the prices made up for it but now I will never go back. Spent over 30 dollars for tacos for two people for breakfast just not worth it
I went there with my mother a little before lunch time. I’m well aware how packed it can be so we weren’t expecting to be seated or seen right away. We have been to this establishment for years for to-go orders and hardly ever actually sat down. When we entered we noticed how busy it was and asked the hostess (whoever was at front) how long the wait was. She explained we can pick anywhere to sit. However all empty tables were dirty, dirty plates, and looked messy. We sat at the LEAST messy table and waited until a waitress could come so we could ask if they could clean a table we wanted. The waitress never came. We sat for about 15 minutes & when a couple came in and sat down, they got the waitress within 2 minutes and said they would clean the table for them. That is absolutely hilarious to see in person. It felt insanely insulting, rude and a little embarrassing to be honest. Won’t be returning.
server did not ask if we needed anything, forgot our silverware, was extremely rude. we had to repeat ourselves multiple times, took extremely long. nobody greeted us. server said they forgot to take our order to the kitchen. terrible experience this place and its staff members are extremely rude. the food tasted disgusting, my sister’s cheese on her burrito was not even melted…
If you happen to be white, then expect to wait longer because even though I was standing in front of the register, I wasn’t being acknowledged by the many staff members that were around me to order my food.
Giving this place a one star food is great service sucks. Those girls need an attitude check. Little do they realize we tip good but if you are making games and giving bad service your tip is going down. What is crazy is breakfast special is only until 8:30am and lunch specials start at 11am ?? Oh well will.not be going back.
This restaurant has awful customer service. The staff keeps eyeballing me and profiling me. Plus when I tried to pay, the cashier was annoyed by me and cussed me out in Spanish, thinking I don’t know the language. Real fun people. I’ll stick with the other restaurants in the area.
I can't say if their food is good or the atmosphere or anything because I just took the longest detour ever to go here to get tacos for my mom and it says they're open until 10:00 and it's 9:30 and they're definitely not open on Saturday night. I'm not sure if they close earlier on any other days but I can tell you that their hours here on Google are wrong.
Been coming here for about 20 years now and the food has usually been good. Most times, we order tacos to go and whenever mistakes are made, they have always been corrected. However, the last time we picked up breakfast tacos for the family, after I notified management about the mistakes, they just said "we'll talk to our staff about it." What!?... and the correction for my order? What does "talk to your staff" do to correct my incorrect order? Seems like the customer service is going downhill here. I will definitely be staying away from this establishment from now on, as there are far too many other quality options in the area that are not going to neglect customers when mistakes are made to their order. How would you not correct the messed up order??? That just seems like common sense and a common practice in the restaurant business.
Tortillas burn my chilaquiles has like 6 cut brown torntillas not the whole tortilla one cut in 6 totaly desastre been here always think I will have a better food today but this is enough unbelievably my husband barbacoa also disgusting but o well never again
Taste was there, flour tortillas are good. Stove and microwave must not be working though because all three of my tacos were cold 🥶
I can’t give it any less, I ate here many years ago. It was decent. Was doing some search and recovery in the Hill Country stopped in and bought some tacos for the crew after dropping of some equipment. It was a waste. Carnè guisada was fat more than meat, not even close to the gravy it was red. The country sausage tasted like rotten eggs and sausage was not warmed up and separated from egg. Needless to say tacos were ready before I got done counting my money. Cold,, I should of known when there was only two cars and my truck.
I was very disappointed today. I have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years and have always recommended it to my friends. I had a team meeting and I made two phone calls prior to arriving this morning. They confirmed that they had breakfast specials until 11:00 a.m. when I arrive the waitress knew nothing about the specials and upon checking she advised me that there was no specials after 8:30 a.m. I asked for coffee and water and she forgot the water and I had to ask three times in order for her to bring me a water. I then asked for a country in a taco and a chorizo/egg taco with ranchero sauce on the side. She brought my order of country and egg, along with a chorizo and bean taco I told her that I did not order a chorizo and bean taco and I requested the ranchero sauce again. Another waitress brought me a plate of eggs. I'm assuming they were wanting me to mix the cold chorizo and beans with the eggs that they brought over and that is not what I ordered. I wish I would have taken a picture of it because it was ridiculous. They then bring me two tacos of chorizo and bean separately and just threw some eggs in it. Since there was no special, my bill came out to $80 on breakfast items for only six people. When I went to pay the bill they were indicating on their little machine that the tip was almost $15 at 18%. I chose not to give a $15 tip. Since service was so bad, I only gave almost a 10% tip of $7 When I walked back to my table I noticed that they had charged me for the chorizo and egg Taco that they never got correct. They also charge me $1.25 for the ranchero sauce that they never brought. And, $10.49 for a 18% service charge on top of the tip that I had given them for only $7!!! ( when we walked in there was three waitresses sitting at the front table doing nothing. There was only one other table occupied with two people. We left by 11:15 a.m. so, there was never a lunch rush ); I brought up the situation to the cashier and she did refund the taco, the ranchero sauce and my $7 tip. They just lost a really good customer and my team was deeply disappointed. ***** the quality of their food has gone down, their service has definitely gone down. And even the cleanliness of the restaurant is not impressive at all.****
