I hadn't been here in 10 years. I just happened to be in the area, so I went to see if this spot was still here. I had the bean, cheese and bacon tacos. Super delicious.
I had a feeling that we would love the food here! EVERYTHING was perfectly seasoned and delicious! This is a must have if visiting and if stationed at Lackland, this would be my choice for lunch daily!
Wonderful authentic Mexican food. Casual, laid back and comfortable. The staff were extremely, pleasant and super helpful. It was our last day in San Antonio and we wanted good local food before we went back home, but we had a Great memorable experience. Perfect end to my son's Air Force graduation week. Oh,they are located about 1000 ft.outside Lackland Air Force Base. A" Must Stop" for anyone in the area. Reasonable prices and delicious generous portions.
Some people complain about dumbest stuff and every little thing. “My kids didn’t eat the food.” Really? Write a review on your spoiled kids then. Sorry everything in your world is not perfect. I’ve lived in the area for 10 years and have a choice of 3 or 4 Mexican restaurants. Over all of them I regularly choose this one. Good food, good prices, consistent quality. I’ve even taken tacos to work for the crew and they love them too. During lunch time, it is packed with military peeps as the pictures show. That should tell you something.
If you are in the military on Lackland, you have more than likely been to this restaurant. It is pretty good Mexican food, and more than decent horchata. They have great breakfast options, and really good take out options. Make sure to give yourself time when dining in, as it is very popular with military, and they tend to take up several tables often ☺️
If ya’ll are needing a good place to eat, I highly recommend the Taqueria El Charro De Jalisco. It’s right outside the Valley Hi Gate at Lackland AFB. It’s a little “mom and pop” Mexican restaurant that was phenomenal! Quick service, truly authentic delicious food, huge variety, reasonable pricing. The food was fantastic. Great portion sizes. We all got different entrees and there were nothing but rave reviews and compliments on the taste, the freshness, and how authentic the food was (we are a well-traveled group, so we know!) Last night, the nine of us walked in, sat down, and had our meals within 15 minutes. That kind of service is rare! I always like to support the small places like this, so keep it in mind if your crew is hungry!
Pro: Good price, fast service, great quality. Con: Smaller facilities, tiny parking lot, and extremely busy during lunch (right next to Lackland). The salsa is better than any other Taqueria I've found in the area, though there is a stronger taste of cilantro in it than usual, so if you dislike cilantro it may not be for you. Highly recommend this Taqueria over any of the others if you avoid the major food hours. During heavy hours nothing really gets worse, I just dislike being around so many people.
Man, oh man. All I can say is just about everything is good here. Especially the beans. Most places need a ton of salt on the beans but this place and there beans need none. Sometimes the eggs are a tad bit over cooked but other that that this place over all has great food. The best. As well as a place called Esme's over on Callaghan and Ingram. But that's another story. Try both these places. You won't regret it 😁
The seats are nice, the food was fantastic the restaurant was clean, and service was perfect. I will definitely come back here.
👌 VERY NOICE Place to eat at - we went here after watching my Daughter Graduate Air Force BMT! Great selection of food with speedy service and friendly staff 💪

First time and won’t be the last! The steak was cooked to perfection. The restaurant was busy but the service was SO FAST! If you’re looking for GOOD Mexican food (not “on the border/texmex/tourist food”) go here! The manager (I’m assuming) brought us out some amazing fresh hot sauces he had just made and man they were amazing! And you can’t beat the price. A lot of food for a fair price. This will be our go to place now.
I've been getting breakfast burritos here for years. Haven't had much of the other food but staff is real nice, burritos/tacos are great, decent prices. Inside ks a bit small so don't plan to go here on an air force graduation day. I assume they get packed
This is one of the best little hidden jems in the entire city of San Antonio and surrounding areas. The staff is very friendly and a joy to interact with. The food is amazing and delicious. Being virtually on top of the entrance to Lackland AFB it has a distinctive military vibe as many members of the Air Force routinely dine here and it is an all around top notch establishment. Being a northeasterner Mexican cuisine is not native to my home but having traveled the entire country this restaurant is one of the best I've ever had the pleasure to have discovered. Tonight I had a massive pork burrito dish that along with everything else I've eaten there in the past three months was also way above par. If you ever get the chance I highly recommend this restaurant and they have a drive through lane as well if your in a rush but the internal experience is definitely worth the time.
They remodeled recently. The place really looks nice. They need to work on the window tint to finish it off. I'm glad to see they have recovered from the COVID hard times. The food is always good. It's much better than the brand name restaurants. Very convenient to Lockland's back gate.
I’ve been in San Antonio since 2014 and tried so many places to eat. I had an order to go for me and family with a variety of items. We were all astounded at how amazing the food was. We all agreed that this was possibly the best food we had ever eaten. The salsa is spot on amazing and 100% fresh! My Carne Asada was a religious experience. Everything else was just as good. You can’t go wrong eating here; the staff are very attentive and you won’t leave disappointed. I also recommend tipping the cook. It’s that good.
I was at Lackland for 4 years and I probably ate here for lunch once or twice a week. The food and horchata is awesome. My man Nacho was one of the best servers they have. I can't wait to get back
Great spot for some Al pastor tacos at a great price. The service here is always excellent. Never had a bad meal here.
Come here b4 going to the flea market. Each visit has been good. Not going to say it is the best quality of food, but it isn't bad either. Quantity more than make up for that. The tacos are big. I tried a plate this visit and was rewarded with a full stomach. We will be back.
This place is amazing. I've been round the world and these are some of the best Carne asada burritos I've ever had. They were very big and if I could fit it in my stomach I would eat the whole thing. The salsa is really good as well! Customer service is a great too
They updated the inside dining area within the last two years. It looks so much better!! I love their steak and egg plate!! I love asking for the ranchero sauce on the side cause they'll give you a little cup of it and I could drown in their sauce so I really appreciate when they do that!!
Love this place. If work on Lackland Air Force Base you should absolutely be eating here regularly. The food is delicious and served quickly, the menu is broad, and the staff are friendly. I have always had a good experience here. The breakfast is particularly good!
These breakfast tacos are insanely delicious! This morning, I picked up a grab bag of tacos for the class and each one is absolutely delicious with zero complaints. The tortilla are freshly made and taste phenomenal. The service was welcoming, friendly, and exceptionally quick for the size of our order (23 tacos and a horchata). The staff included plenty of salsa variation with different levels of spicyness. And finally the Horchata..... One word .... AMAZING! We will most certainly be back for more, thank you.
Consistently excellent tacos. The manager has recognized me since the first day I came to the restaurant. Great service!
Delicious food, friendly staff, and cute atmosphere. I'll be back!
Tacos is what you need to try at this place, is hard to find authentic Mexican tacos but these are good ones to try...
Great Service, Great food. Would come here again.
My order has been wrong a few times and I’ve been recharged for returning each time not my fault they can’t understand beans and beef I asked for a beef and cheese only soft taco I got beans and I ordered 6 of them man was I angry and wasted my gas no curtesy nothing And it’s their mistake I had to return wasting gas to go back But the food is good smh y’all
I go almost everyday to get tacos or drinks for me & my co-workers. All of them are so nice too & I always get great service too!!!!
It's been 13 years, and it is still as amazing as I remember. The owner and staff still have great hospitality, even during peak hours.
Very convenient to our workplace. Providing great tasting food. We'll staffed and food hot coming out. Love thus restaurant 😋.
Very good and convenient breakfast tacos. The wait can be a while but they let you call it in, in advance. Too bad they're closed on Mondays. Always made it a point to stop here before going on the Medina annex. VERY affordable.
Food here is always delicious and served hot. The staff is always welcoming and check on your needs often. I especiall like the barbacoa tacos with onions and cilantro!
I've been eating here since I was an Airman. Now I'm a retired Master Sergeant and former MTI. I've always liked their food and their service is fast and friendly. Plus, being located right outside the Valley Hi gate means great food is within sticking distance all day every day.
I had their Torta con Barbacoa sandwich recently and WOW it's like eating into a bite of heaven. The bread tasted fresh and buttery with generous portions of barbacoa covered with a layer of avocado, sour cream, lettuce and tomatoes. If you like barbacoa tacos, this is like next level in flavor and texture. Their prices have gone up sadly so I don't eat here very often, but every time I do, their service is cheerful and fast. Atmosphere is fine and the place is clean, although I usually order my food through the drive through. What's cool about this place is that they also have a really good seafood selection as well. So far I've yet to have any food from here that I didn't like. Is it the finest Tex-Mex in Texas? No, but it's not fancy. Most plates are fairly simple. However everything is very fresh and extremely flavorful. If you want some solid tex-mex food this is a great place. They've been around for decades for good reason.
My wife and I truly enjoy this restaurant. We make it purpose to visit here every trip we make to San Antonio. The staff is very welcome and the food is outstanding. If you're ever in San Antonio, you might want to stop by.
Had breakfast tacos there on my way out of town as was suggested by my sister . A long time San Antonio native as am I. The tacos at I got in the drivethru was so hot we couldn't eat them till they cooled down. Something almost impossible at a typical fast food anymore . I thought they where great. The chorizo and eggs was one of the best I have ever had. I also went for breakfast with my sister to have huevos Ranchero. An old tradition also for us. It was also good. Beans a little dry but Ranchero sauce rakes of that. I don't understand why people are so picky. When is the last time you worked in food and beverage???
I was so scared to try this place because of the reviews. But I decided to try the barbacoa based on the negativity around it. It is Very Greasy! But it also had so much meat!! Just get one barbacoa and 2 extra tortillas and extra napkins. I also ordered Bean and Cheese Bien Cocida Tortillas and their beans are the most flavorful beans I've ever had!! The Service through the window was a bit slow but thats because instead of people calling in their orders of more than 10 tacos they pull up and say 8 pot egg and cheese 4 bac egg 6 bean cheese.. I heard it for myself. Poor kitchen but I'm sure they are used to it. I can't wait to take my mom and sister here to try it. I got 3 tacos and full after 1 and a half!! Yes!!
Food tasted good, but the order was wrong. Unfortunately, we were already halfway home before we realized it. All 3 plates we ordered had something missing or were mixed with the wrong ingredients. Ex. I asked for chicharron con salsa and got it with egg. No big deal. Was good anyway. Just not the way I prefer. Overall, I probably would go back, but just make sure I get what I ordered.
The birria quesadillas were good and the micheladas are awesome
Great breakfast tacos. Pancakes are good too. They were super busy on a Saturday morning so we waited for service to begin. Once our server got to us it was fine. Very friendly and attentive. It's also a great place to see our military service members who were having breakfast.🇺🇸
Nice place especially for military people because it is right off base
The food is very good but the dining experience was not good. They have the news blasting so all I’m hearing is sad things going on in the world while I’m trying to enjoy my meal. I already have to hear about this all day long. I don’t want to hear about it when I’m trying to unwind from the day and eat a good dinner.
Breakfast tacos are delicious and well priced. The drivethrough is not supper efficient. The building is a little ran down but the food is good. I lived here 2 years and just passed it up on ascetic reasons. I could have been having these good tacos this whole time!! My loss.
It was the first place we saw once exiting the Military Base so we decided to try it out. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. The place was very clean and the food was good. I must say the Torta was the best I've had so far. So much flavor! The good and the bad, the bread was thin which I liked but too thin it falls apart easily. My Husband had a breakfast plate with barbacoa. For these 2 plates and 2 teas it was $31
I ordered the Enchilada plate and normally restaurants use the red corn tortillas which make the enchiladas taste way better than the yellow corn tortillas, so they use the yellow ones here plus they peas and carrots in the rice not too crazy about that. Food was good I would of given them 4 stars maybe even 5, I will go back and try something else on the menu, the other food did look good that others ordered...I just love the red corn enchiladas taste way, way better
They have their good days and their bad. One time something will be fantastic. They next time it doesnt even taste like the same recipe. But it's close to home and beats fighting traffic to venture further. Especially since we usually visit during the 4 oclock hr. Service is good. Waitresses keep your drink filled and you usually never have to ask for something. They know what their customers need on the table.
Not bad just a little greasy for my taste, red meat.
The menu looks like things would be good. Order the Mexican plate. It came and said the plates are hot. But after getting into the enchiladas, they were not hot at all. Cool, at best. Took it back to the counter where one lady was standing and told her the plate was hot but not the food. Brought it back, and yup, good thing for microwaves. The food was not at all good. The sauce was a taste I could not even begin to describe. The enchiladas were not filled with cheese. They were rolled in flour tortillas with a little cheese in between folds. All in all, the food, for at least what I had, was not up to par! I do have to say, I visited this place when I first moved here. Thought it was great. Really has disappointed me this go around. Would not go back.
The food taste is good; however, they need to STOP putting FOAM PLATES in the MICROWAVE! This is a health hazard. My recommendations: Step #1 They should cover the bottom of the foam plate with foil. Step# 2. They should warm food in a microwavable dish. Step# 3. Then put hot food in (Step #1) plate. Step #4. Please also clean shrimp properly.
Drive Thru Continues to be a Problem. Food and servings are better inside, but drive through service needs improvement! Barely any meat on carne guisada, forgot queso; there is consistently something wrong with our orders.
Stopped in after coin ceremony for my son. Food was decent. Parking can be tough.
My issue here is not with the food or the service but rather the business practice of charging people more that use debit/credit cards. This is not just against the cardholders agreement but it's despicable. The card reader and charges are expenses that can be written off on taxes.
Food is pretty good, but it is WAY overpriced. Got 2 beef enchiladas a la carte... just shy of $9! Won't go there again. There's a place down the road just as good, and I can get the plate and tea for less than I paid for the 2 enchiladas.
Only got 2 bean and cheese from here and it was very cold and the taco was messy already beans didnt even taste like beans I dont know what it was
First time there and the last.. food was cold and very salty. Asked the waiter for anthr one and he said it'll probably taste the same because it's coming from the same batch.. I was appalled by his answer. And then he said no one has complained about it all day and it was a seller today...he walks aways and does t come back at all... About to pay and he was behind the cashier with a rude face speaking in Spanish not knowing I speak Spanish..and says that I'm the one that was complaining about the food.. as I was walking out I told him in Spanish goodbye and have a good day and his face was like wow... She understood me. Never again am I going back!.
The female waitress that was attending us was very rude and arrogant. She asked us what we wanted to drink and was taking forever to bring our drinks. In the meantime was attending other tables. I motioned to her to bring us our drinks and she told me to wait. A customer is not supposed to wait, especially if the waitress is standing around talking. She sarcastically told me in Spanish "thank you very much" when we got up to walk out. Bad customer service, never will return and never recommend. Good luck !
Waitress was not trained to welcome. Asked for a minute...took 7 minutes. Waited 30 minutes for our simple order of eggs and pancakes and a chicken salad...never came tired of waiting, felt uncomfortable and left.
Drive thru menu prices are incorrect, prices are actually higher. Drive thru lady that took our order was extremely rude and curt. We ordered several enchilada/ taco plates which included rice and beans, when we got home and opened boxes...no beans just a bunch of rice instead ( obviously done on purpose). Food was salty , enchiladas mushy and they'll charge for every extra tiny container of salsa ( as if 1 tiny salsa is enough for 1 plate). This was our To Go place for Mexican food as it was always delicious, they have gone downhill food quality/customer service/cost wise. No problems, another just as good if not better Mexican restaurant down the street.
I dread to put one star, but unfortunately, I have no other choice. My experience with the manager or owner Was absolutely ridiculous. He wanted to charge for every little thing a cup of water an extra little container of hot sauce, chips that are supposed to be free, mind you I got charged five dollars for a B fajita taco and another five or a chicken fajita taco. If the food was good, I wouldn’t mind paying it but all I had in my mouth was a bunch of grease. And that grease was not coming from the fajitas. It was coming from the tortilla I don’t know how they’re still open that kind of attitude and that kind of food I wouldn’t feed it to my dog. what a shame so close to the base where our fellow soldiers live.
I wish I could give this place zero stars. Burrito Jalisco on the menu is $7.50. Not for me I guess. They charged me $12. Breakfast burrito on the menu is $4.50. Not for me I guess. They charged me $10. Their receipts don’t show the items you ordered. Just how much they’re charging you… Shady Bad business. I feel scammed. I feel like they are stealing my hard earned money.
Ordered 4 Breakfast Tacos and there was an equal ratio of egg to egg shell. Crunchyiest Soft Taco Ive ever ate... literally EVERY bite had Egg Shell in it. This place use to have the best tacos in the Lackland AFB Area and we ate from there 2-3 mornings weekly. After this experience I would NOT RECOMMEND this to anyone. Very Disappointing!!!
Prices on drive thru menu does not match what they are charging you at the window. Totally surprised me when i received the receipt. They don’t say anything to you regarding the up pricing on the menu when ordering. This restaurant is charging you more at the window than what is labeled on the drive thru menu which is not how a business should be operated. It is completely unacceptable that a restaurant can’t update their outdated drive thru menu and is charging over $60.00 for 2 plates of bean and cheese nachos with fajita and a quesadilla plate. $60.00 for 3 plates. I understand that prices go up due to inflation and tariffs or any other reason but the restaurant should be responsible for the difference between the menu prices and the new up charged prices.
INSULTED To The Core! A friend and I stopped here after leaving LAFB, it was 1:45pm on a Tuesday. My friend recommended this place and raved about the food… Their sign read ‘open’ the drive-thru was open/taking orders, and a family of 4 was seated/eating their meal. But, the door was locked and no one came to the patio window where orders can be placed. Ok, we thought they must have closed early… As we walked back to the car, a truck with four adults walked toward the restaurant. I informed them that it appeared they were closed but the drive-thru was open. They seemed surprised but proceeded to the door… Much to our amazement a young lady let them in!! Confused and shocked… we called to the group asking if the restaurant was really open or closed… one said “no, they’re open”, they asked the young lady if we could come in and she said YES. I informed the young lady that my friend and I had just been at the door and at the window and no one acknowledged us, she did not respond. I asked her why they were allowed to enter and we weren’t; her response was “they’re regulars”… I asked what time they close, she said “1:30pm”. I thought OK… so an exception was made for their regulars…perfectly understandable… However, that was a blatant lie! They do not close at 1:30pm… they close at 10pm… I do not recommend! Attempted to include a photo, however the photo won’t display…
My husband ordered 2 bean and bacon tacos for me and one taco of chicharon con huevo and one taco of bean and cheese. We received one bean and bacon, one chorizo and bean, and one chorizo and egg. We weren't about to drive back.
Be aware!!! The prices you see on the menu are not the correct prices. Went to eat with my family tonight and when I got to the cashier to pay all the prices were different. Everything was more expensive. There excuse was we have a sign on the window that says prices change daily.. I was like this ain’t gasoline prices where they change daily…I was super mad. I told the waitress well you need to put posters inside letting people know the prices on the menu are not accurate., or at least tell your customers when they order that the price is higher then in the menu. The only thing I kept getting out of them was, “ we have a sign on the window “.. I’m sorry but when I go to a restaurant I don’t walk in looking at the windows, I’m hungry and ready to eat. These people are taking advantage of people and military people next door. Spread the word and let people know that if you’re on a budget to eat out don’t come here because you’ll end up paying more. OH!!! and the foods not all that … trust me 👎🏽👎🏽
I’ve never been to a restaurant that charges you for a full drink if you share your drink with a toddler. Be prepared to pay for a full large drink for a 2 year old if they take 1 sip of your drink, even if they do not get their own cup or order any refills. You also get better tacos if you dine in vs ordering to do it in the drive thru. Much bigger portions of you order dining in.
When we first walked in took about 5 mins for someone to ask us what drinks we wanted. They didn't initially mention the menu was a QR code. Took another waitress to bring us our food. DO NOT ORDER ENCHILADAS. They were cold, not even filled with cheese and i have never seen sauce like that. No flavor, thick. Just gross. Beans and rice extremely salty and tortillas were tough to chew. Paid $60 for 3 plates which the waitress did see i didn't even eat but didn't offer a discount. She seemed to have a bit of an attitude problem. The only reason it's stays open i believe is because they are right outside of the gate of Lackland. Someone please save the swrvicemembers and give them better tasting mexican food, i beg you. I do not recommend this place. 0 stars i would rate i i could!!
Normally this is my go to spot but for whatever reason the staff was rude when I came in for pickup. Ordered 60 bucks worth of food including 3 burritos, all of which had a bunch of egg shells mixed into the eggs. Went from being my number one spot right off base to never going back.
Food isn't worth it, the menu price is incorrect, the skillet plate is $16 and I was charged $22, I said that's not the advertised priced and the cashier pointed to the door saying there was a sign saying there was a price increase and the menus needed to be updated but the sign doesn't say there's a 35% increase . Avoid these scammers
This restaurant catered our Senior Citizens Valentines Event. The caterer ran out of food instantly, 250 plates was ordered, and there wasn’t even 250 in attendance. We had approximately 40 seniors that didn’t get a plate. To make matters worse, the seniors ran out of tea. This restaurant shortchanged our seniors!
This place is a trap. Food was absolutely disgusting. How does everything taste burnt and bland at the same time? They must be tossing stuff from a can onto the griddle because there was no way anything I had was freshly made. MREs felt more upscale than whatever this place offered. Anyone who thinks this place is 5 stars also wouldn’t mind dining under a bridge.
The server was rude and trick us out of $10 for chips! Chips are supposed to be free? We didn’t even order them! WE WERE THEIR ONLY CUSTOMERS and I asked questions about the menu and was given no help. First and last time at this place.
Just moved to the neighborhood...so first time here and have to say the last one also. I went inside to order because drive thru had too many cars. Of course, you had to scan the QR code for the menu and had left my phone in truck. So then I get handed an IPAD to see the menu and told that the prices were incorrect and not up to date. I ordered 6 tacos for about $20 and 2 coke cans for $4. I think that was a bit much for the tacos, especially since we ended up not eating them. The food had way TOO much salt and tortillas were rubbery. Overall not a good experience and I should have read the reviews first before going :-(
$23 for 9 tacos!! My family and I have given this restaurant a chance off and on for the last 7 years because they’re very close. Not worth it at all and I will drive further for a better experience next time. We’ve experienced off smelling/tasting cheese, crunchy beans, and now an upset stomach through the whole day. Years go by between visits and they just don’t seem to improve. Way too over priced for lackluster food.
Dirty and overpriced. The place was unsanitary. I paid $11 for two potato and egg with chips and salsa. Tortillas were chewy and stretchy. Egg was cold. Potatoes were burnt. Salsa was just spicy tomato sauce. They really underperformed on my basic order on a slow Saturday. I can’t imagine what it’s like if it gets busy here. Would not recommend.
Despicable!!!! The waitress charged gratuity for 2 of us. Handed me a receipt with only the total of $41.90. Definitely more than I usually pay for food minus the tip, I always leave tip. Seeing the more than average price before I added a tip cause I pay with card i asked for the itemized receipt like its usually givin. Food was 30 and some change then she added gratuity then all that taxed together! Extremely disrespectful to be cheating customers like that. Have been there a couple of times before and have never been charged like that. Truly disgusted at the waitress behavior.
I have absolutely 0 idea how this place has such good ratings. Considering how often we eat mexican food my expactations are not that high and this place was horrible. My bean and chz "gordita" was basically a spoonful of beans a glob full of cheese placed between two thick burnt corn pancakes. My husband's bacon, potato and egg taco had some sort of thick chewy mystery meat in it and the tortilla was extremely burnt. My barbacoa on corn was mostly fat, full of so much oil my tortilla was soggy. I didn't even try to eat it because it didnt smell good. Reminded me of some sort of spoiled baby food. And we only live 3 miles away so no reason for the food to have "gone bad". What we ordered was the bottom line most basic mexican food ever and it was done all wrong. We stopped by due to shopping in the area and because of the 4 stars but we will not be back.
