They always have a great selection on craft beer on tap. Plenty of can/bottle, wine and cider options also. Easy place to get a quick drink after work or chill with friends. They have lots of board games available, an outdoor area, snacks for purchase and you can bring outside food in (tons of fast food and local places in the vicinity). Their bathrooms are always clean also!
Great beer selection and the webpage even shows how full the kegs are for each beer on top. Pizza was great. Board games to keep the kids amused. Great place for an after work beer and pizza.
Amazing pizza, good beer. Great atmosphere, there are games for the guests to play. Outdoor seating. Love this place will be my stop everytime I come through town.
Great little spot that I routinely go to. Great personal pizzas and a wide selection of beers, all for reasonable prices. Never disappointed and a great place on weeknights to relax or get some work done
The Growler Exchange is what a neighborhood craft beer bar should be. They have just the right amount of taps to Showcase a wide variety of beers, but not too many so that new beers rotate in frequently. You will always find local or Texas made craft beer on tap, along with a expansive collection of bottles and cans available as well. Service is prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is casual, and great for conversation, or playing board games. They stock a collection of their own board games, but you can always bring your own.
The broadway pizza was the table favorite. Would make frequent stop.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. My wife and I had a couple pizzas and the pretzel, all of which were delicious. Their beer selection is quite extensive, and they even have TV's and board games for entertainment and just hanging out with friends.
Delicious beer, delicious pizza (the two best things in the world!) and nice staff. The beers are pretty pricy, tho -- be prepared to pay $9 a pint. But, hey, this is a place you go for quality, not quantity.
Mike's special pizza is a must try if like a little sweet with your pizza. Also, the beer selection is fantastic, I recommend trying the Electric Jellyfish (IPA - New England) by Pinthouse Pizza. The Growler Exchange is very consistent with its quality. I've never had a bad pizza there.
The beer selection is unmatched in San Antonio - especially for stout lovers, like myself! I love the option to take a mini growler home with me or select from the cans and taking them to go. I can’t wait to try the food.
This is, by far, the best taproom in the city. There's always a great rotation of craft beer and their can selection is outstanding. Friendly service, chill environment, and their food is pretty damn good too.
What can I not say about this place. I don't often leave reviews, but between a super chill and just all around great guy for an owner. Great food and of course great drinks on tap I could and do come here often. I love the atmosphere and the fact that all of the patrons are super nice. I can't count the number of times I have just started talking to someone and had a great time. I can and do recommend coming here.
Love the Growler Exchange! I love trying all the different beer. It's cool that they have a little bit of info on the screens about the beer you are tasting. I like to get flights of their beer so I can try multiple. The pricing isn't bad for good quality beer. The new location has food which is awesome. I have tried the charcuterie board which was delicious! They also have a little rewards/coupon system so sign up for that!
Great beer. Good prices. Friendly/helpful staff. Clean restroom (guys anyway). Parking sucks not much they can do about that though. The screens monitoring the keg levels is pretty sweet. Although depending where you are sitting reading the menu on screen can be a challenge
This place rocks for the beer enthusiasts. The selection is amazing and the system tracking keg levels, and new taps is awesome! The growler available for purchase are very nice and the service is next level. If you can't find a beer you like here, you may as well stick to classics (bud, coors, miller). Enjoy!
Very nice, polite lady tending to the place. Pizza was good. Huge selection of beer on tap and to go. Very laid back. It was nice sitting on the patio and watching all the cyclists and cars going by on Broadway.
Hidden gem. Great beers with awesome bartenders. I recommend stopping in here for a drink. Many different beers that you will not find anywhere else in San Antonio.
These guys have a great craft beer selection and awesome service. I’ve gone by 3 or 4 times after moving into their new location and now I want to go back all the time! Give their pizzas a shot next time you’re there as well
One of favorite spots to pop into when I need some good beer 🍺 and good pizza. Staff is great and it's not too big with a small area for outside dinning. I recommend when wanting a nice hang
Great staff. Good specials each day and events weekly keep things fresh. Nice menu for the beers stays updated on tvs and you can Check online before you go what's on tap. Bring your own food from the bakery next door or get wings across the street from Tiger Wings.
James the bartender is awesome. Ask him anything about Harry Potter.
My husband and I live close by and this is definitely our new go-to. The beers are top notch and there’s a wide selection spanning across the state. Also, the pizza is A1. Highly recommend!
Small but lots of great beer! Get the Texas Twinkle pizza and let Hammer know that When dreaming I'm guided to another world Time and time again At sunrise I fight to stay asleep 'Cause I don't wanna leave the comfort of this place 'Cause there's a hunger, a longing to escape From the life I live when I'm awake So let's go there Let's make our escape Come on, let's go there Let's ask can we stay?
I've always liked The Growler Exchange but I'll be honest I didn't go often. BUT now there's pizza involved and boy is it good! You can grab a plain ol' pepperoni pizza or a meat sweats. You can even go for a pepperoni pizza with honey!!!! HONEY! Their pies are delicious but beware they're a tad larger than a personal size. It's a nice size for myself but definitely need more than one for a group to share. I love coming here with my friends to catch up over some of their rotating brews. A variety of tallboys are also available. The crowd is always chill and it's never loud. The bartenders are always so polite and will let you grab a swig of any brew before going all in for a full pour. There's a few board games, TVs showing sports on low volume and patio sitting. I dig it! If you're wanting great service from a friendly staff, yummy pizza and a chill atmosphere- get on down to Growler Exchange!
This is a great place. They have a huge selection of beer on tap and bottles as well. The food is also great. Their specialty pizzas are delicious and really reasonably priced. The service was fast and the bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about all of their selections.
Great spot to hang out at and drink some craft beers. The bartender working when we went was very welcoming and had great recommendations for beers. This is definitely the place you want to be to hang out and relax. We didn’t try their pizzas but the ones we saw brought out looked delicious. They also have beers you can purchase to take home. I’ll definitely be coming back to this location!
Always a great low key place to visit with good beer selection and games to play. As my neighborhood bar, i like the atmosphere and how welcoming everyone on the staff is. Also, Mike’s Specialty Pizza is sweet and savory - worth it with a good beer.
The video wall is awesome to see as to how much each beer has remaining on tap. Chill place if you want it to be or you can cut a joke with the staff. Plenty of beer options for a great price. They also have a humidor with a decent selection of cigars available to enjoy as well if you have the time. Definitely a place to check out if you have the time.
Becky as fantastic and gave great beer recommendations. I had a few specific requests and she was able to find 3 I loved.
Me and the wife stopped for a drink. They have a lot of choices when it come to craft beers. Very relaxing, it wasn't loud we could have a conversation without telling. The beer was 👍. The staff was very friendly. They also have food. We didn't have any but the pizza smelled good.
This is the best craft beer bar in San Antonio! They are constantly tapping highly rated and high quality beers. The pizza is also top-notch (I recommend the Mike's Special) One thing to keep in mind is that not all beers are listed on Untappd - specifically the beers that are in cans and bottles. I have often found that some of the best beers at the Growler Exchange can be found by carefully looking through the cans and bottles.
Super friendly bar tender. Pretty good selection of beer on tap and bottled soft drinks. The pizza is really good too. Really appreciate the board games they have available for you to play with friends.
Stopped by here visiting for the eclipse, overall a good place for any beer lover, didn’t get a chance to try the food but I will next time, nice chill pleasant environment for when you want to relax after a long day with a wide variety of beers, salim took very good care of me and made sure everything was up to par next time I’m in the area I’ll be sure to visit this place and order some pizza like I said, definitely a place a beer loving, pizza eating person would love!
SUPER HOT IN HERE. Prepare to sweat your butt off. This place is awesome but their AC is massively inadequate. Improve the AC, put some ceiling fans up, put some shades on the windows…do something. If I want to sweat, I would drink my beer outside.
Always the freshest beers on tap in the city. You'll want to stop here if you're looking for a well curated selection on draft. You can also get a pretty tasty pizza too. If you meet your American Lager drinking friends that don't like Kraft beer here, they'll suggest something that won't hurt their feelings.
The beer is good! The pizza is a compliment to the beer.
One of the best tap rooms in San Antonio, great beer selection and pizza is made on request and is extremely good. Limited seating inside and out on busy days.
Excellent beers. "Juicy Fish" hazy IPA and "Greetings from Belsnickel" Russian Imperial Stout were a treat!
We had a delicious pineapple "beer" and our bartender, Magdelene was knowledgeable and friendly. She offered suggestions and answers to the question about hard liquor availability.
Great nationwide beer selection! Pizza is on point and the vibes are always just right.
Great craft beer spot with a relaxed and welcoming vibe. Excellent tap selection. I had the Untitled Art Chocolate Graham Cracker Pastry Stout on tap and it was rich, smooth, and perfectly poured. Plenty of indoor seating and I appreciate the quiet, no frills atmosphere where you can actually enjoy a conversation or a board game. A solid place to unwind with a great pint.
Really nice experience when I go. Never have a bad time. The environment is super chill. They are a beer focused station so you will find a variety of beers on taps. For you cider lovers unfortunately they only have 2 usually on tap. They do have wine but do nit expect the wine to be from vineyards of France. However it is a nice place and the Mikes Special Pizza is on point. Thin crust pizza with pep and cheese drizzled with hot hunny. Yummy! Staff is always friendly. Go check this place out always a good time and chill vibe.
Stopped by recently for a beer or two and tried out their pizzas as well. The Sweet Meats is basically a meat lovers that is kicked up with chili oil and the Texas Twinkie is a deconstructed brisket jalapeno popper on a pizza. Both were loaded with toppings and flavor and both delivered quite a kick! But don't worry, they have plenty of beers on tap to cool you mouth down! I tried their pretzel on a previous visit, and that is quite good as well. This is definitely a good place to stop by for a brew and a bite to eat, and I am already planning a return visit.
We love hanging out at this place! Joey, the owner, is so friendly and goes out of his way to make sure his customers are happy and having a good time. You definitely have to come open minded to try beer that you’ve never had before! They definitely have some interesting selections. (Interesting in a good way!!) If you come hungry, be sure to try one of their pizzas. They come out so fast, fresh and so delicious! We tried the White out and the Spicy Meat Sweats (we added jalapeños) both were 10/10 delicious! Today is their 7 year anniversary and it was so nice to see how many people support this awesome place.
Brought the wife here for a date night and we had a great time. The beers that we tried were all great. We also decided to order 2 pizzas, the spicy meat sweats and Mike's Special. Mike's Special came as a recommendation from the bartender, even though it sounded funny, it tasted amazing. The prices here were good and were not overpriced like most places in San Antonio. Overall we were extremely satisfied with our visit and will definitely come back next time that we visit San Antonio.
I went to The Growler on a Friday around 630pm and found it to be packed! It is a small bar but worth going to if you love your Craft Beer! Excellent selection of Craft beer both local and all over. Service is quick and although food menu is limited it is home made and delicious! I had a Pepperoni pizza with mushrooms and onions, plus a pretzel. Would go back and have it again!
This place was absolutely phenomenal. My mom and I decided to explore some new places this weekend and I must say we are no where near disappointed in choosing to come here! Pizza was only $10 and left the both of us very satisfied. I love trying new local craft beers and this place had a good little variety of them. It was my mom's first time overall trying such beers and/or even coming to a spot like this, she LOVED it. Our server was very kind, fun and made sure my mom & I got exactly what we were looking for in a beer. Pricing is very reasonable, I most definitely recommend anyone who is a fan of local craft beer to give this place a visit. I will be going back very soon myself!
First time at the Growler Exchange and I felt a little weird having been here before when it was a Bahama Buck’s (and a Jamba Juice before that). They’ve done an excellent job remodeling it. There’s not a whole lot of parking as you are competing with the Subway and Jim’s next door. The place itself is very cozy and seems like a great place to have a beer when it’s cold outside. Kind of has a sports bar vibe to it with several flat screens. We tried to sit outside in their tiny little patio area but the mosquitoes were biting that evening and forced us inside. We ordered a Whitestone Light Reps, an Independence Native Texan and a 10” Margherita pizza. Their beer selection is excellent and we were happy with the ones we picked. The pizza was good too (I liked the sauce). Overall, if you’re in the mood for some good craft beer on tap, this is a good choice.
Incredibly large selection of craft beers. Wide range of prices, too (some over $1 an ounce). Take-out growlers are a very convenient option for craft beer lovers who want to enjoy their brew at home.
The Prosciutto & Honey pizza was WAY TOO SWEET (i recommend adding more Prosciutto), the Texas Twinkie pizza was just OK. Beers were the best, location is great, and plenty of parking.
Great selection of beer. I've gone several times in the past few weeks and there have always been great new selection both in the fridge and on tap. Pizza was delicious tonight. Only negative is that the beer is fairly expensive.
Lots of great beer selection available. Only served personal pizzas (which were delicious) and appetizers. Wish they offered more food selection. Staff were friendly and great.
Nice place with outdoor seating. Great beer selection and the pizza was excellent! Only thing I would say is the beer is way overpriced. The average price of beer was over $7..... 2 beers and a personal size pizza was $30
Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but I figured I'll try a pepperoni pizza. I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong because other Pizzas looked different online and I got a thin pizza with no pepperoni cheese balance just mostly pepperoni. The atmosphere looked cool though I would probably drink a beer there or something
Great selection. Didn't get any food, because they have alliums in their sauce. The guy offered to make a pizza with Olive oil base, but I declined. The woman working was very kind and polite. I asked for one of every stout she had, and she let me know it would take a significant amount of time. I love when people set the correct expectations. The place could be a bit more well lit for my personal taste, and it certainly felt cramped. If you're looking for a great variety of beer though - it's hard to do better.
Beer and more beer! I had a tasty glass of Vista Dark Skies (recommended by the server) that complimented the Fungus Amongus pizza. Great combo! Glass of beer: $7 Pizza $13. Tip $6. A bit pricey for a smallish pie but it hit the spot on a very hot August afternoon.
This is a nice, low key place to try a nice selection of beers. The pizza they make is a solid option if you're in the mood for some grease to help absorb the alcohol. The beer options are broad, with a particularly good number of IPAs. Texas breweries are well represented as well as a few from out of state.
This is a perfect spot for enjoying some beers and food. It’s a small place with a few TVs and chill vibes. The person who helped us was nice and attentive. The beer menu is huge, I had a hard time deciding since they don’t do tasters or flights. Ultimately I tried a couple of Texas IPAs. For food, we tried to breadsticks (just okay) and a few pizzas (not easy being green, spicy meat sweats, and the Texas Twinkie. They were all really good.
Great tap selection is an oddly difficult task as the number of breweries hits market saturation. If you can't find a beer style you like here I, encourage you to reconsider your palate. Pizza is a solid addition, the topping combinations are right out of Italy but with an American touch. Worth repeat visits for sure, and will satisfy your thirst... And appetite. The meat sweat lives up to it's name btw.
Excellent pizza! Great beers on tap. Service was dismal. Chick does not belong behind the bar.
Pizza was OK. Beer selection was large (~40 beers on tap). But...no tasters allowed! You have to roll the dice on beers you've never tried before. We had one beer and then left and went to Flying Saucer. We were trying to find somewhere closer to us but given you can't try the beers via tasters, we won't be back.
My first visit to this place I expected a busy crowded bar crowd but I was pleasantly surprised to see a more mature crowd, space to mingle and the pizzas were delicious. I'm not a fan of beer but I did try one with coconut and it was delicious. Atmosphere is chill, I only wish they had menus to see, other than having to stand in a specific area to see it on the wall.
Large selection of beer, pizza is above average. 3 stars is due to the fact that they don’t let you taste the beer and they don’t have an option to buy beer smaller than 8oz to try. I have never been to a taproom that doesn’t have some way for you to taste the beer. Kind of a waste. We would have bought a couple growlers to take home, but not if you won’t let me try it first.
Ordered 2 pizzas and beer at the counter. 30 minutes and 2 orders after us I inquired about our food. Turns out our ticket was "lost" 15 mins later and 2 more orders our pizza came out. We were offered a 10% discount for our trouble. Pizzas were very good and a good variety of beer selections.
Beer and food are good…. My complaint is how they treat the homeless. They had a homeless mentally ill person outside. Instead of dealing with the situation in a professional manner; the bartender thought it fit to come inside and announce to the bar that the homeless should be compared to stray dogs. Making a joke then qualifying it (after being called out) by saying it’s ok because they’ve dealt with homelessness before from their personal lives. Then proceeded to talk smack with other customers.
A year ago I had left a 5 star review, but tonights vist was very scuffed, took 3 attempts to get me my correct pizza, and both times because server error, once by incorrectly wording my request for onions to be replaced with mushrooms, then a second time by giving me someone else's pizza, they assured me they still had it in the back, then proceeded to take 5+ minutes bringing it out to me (granted, cudos to the chef for making it worth the wait, but still, I shouldnt have had to wait as long as I did) not to mention the scummy act of not having the listed menu price of their most expensive drink for the which was the alesmith stout that we got for a growler for $80 (ive lost the receipt and cant remember if it was that much because we got a growler with it, or if the price of the growler was added onto $80, but hideing the price of it eitherway, especially with the prices of other drinks being displayed I interpret as disingenuous). I remember having had a good experience enough the first time to leave 5 stars, and everyone I know who knows this place recommend it with no competition, even people I don't like and people who don't like me, but that was about when I went, It has a good streak going for it, but this trip sucked
I ordered via doordash and maybe that is the problem. I ordered the foccaica and mikes pizza during the happy hr promotion. I wish companies would not participate if they will be providing sub standard product and service. I only received 1 of the 2 items purchased. The item i did get had all the proper ingredients but resembled a frozen pizza instead of the nice bubbled up crust pizzas shown by others. I guess it was under cooked. Unfortunately I had people coming over and we were excited to try new items from a new to us place and this was a real disappointment.
30 beers on tap... but it's a shot in the dark as to what u get. No samples... they don't even list the IBUs for most of the beer. There is no real chance to try something new unless u buy the whole cow. I'll head over ALL OF to the other places that let u try b4 u buy.
Ordered two beers and pizzas at the counter during a very slow lunch time. Only one other party in the restaurant with us. We waited 35 mins and had to ask for our food to be checked on. Turns out our food ticket did not print in the back. It was too late for us to wait for our food so we paid for our beers and we left. We should’ve at least been offered a comp for our beers or somethings. I would’ve understood if they were busy. It was dead.
We had high hopes for this place, they had some new beers we wanted to try on tap, but be forewarned, this is NOT your typical growler place. No no fellow craft beer fans, this place does not allow samples or flights. Bonus, the bartender was incredibly rude. Take your business elsewhere, there are far better locations in San Antonio to get your craft beer fix. Maybe head over and give The Hoppy Monk a try
THE FIRST TIME IT'S BEEN THE WORST TIME EVER GAVE ME A BURNT PIZZA. I WAS SUPPOSED TO RECEIVE A REMAKE, BUT GOT A COLD ONE INSTEAD
