If I wasn’t stationed somewhere else, I’d probably come here a lot. Food was amazing and the customer service was amazing as well. I saw the kindness of the lady that worked there. I definitely recommend coming in here. They have a store next door that sells some Brazilian stuff! We bought some Guarana & Pao De Queijo!!
Being Brazilian sure make me want to get what I love the most and Brazil by the Bay offers not only for me but everyone these incredible opportunity to explore Brazilian tastes. They have a little market with frozen fruits like açaí, acerola...our famous huge Easter Eggs. Seasonings, beans, meats, guaraná, I mean, all. And on the other side this cute restaurant with what I love, here goes my favorites: chicken coxinha, pão de queijo, feijoada, prato feito, milanesa.....and to drink, many options of caipirinhas and guaraná or juices. I have know the owners and admire their love for what they have being doing.
I can't travel due to Covid-confinement, but I can send my taste buds on a great adventure at Brazil by the Bay. Deliciously delicate spices and perfectly cooked barbecue are the hallmarks of this wonderful neighborhood restaurant. It is popular and it is small - so plan for a bit of delay on a busy day. Explore the menu and you will find wonderful surprises; my favorite is the feijoada (pork, beef, beans, and rice with green).
Very impressed with the food. I got the feijoada, something I haven’t tried before but it was delicious. I shared a portion for two with my friend. I didn’t feel the prices were unfair, I was happy that I was paying for a quality meal! I feel like this place is a little hidden gem. I will definitely be back again.
Wow! This food was flipping amazing!!! I stumbled upon it accidentally because I took a wrong turn. I wasn't hungry at the time, so I stopped by the next time I was in the area - and wow! Just Wow! Best meal I have had in a long time. Plus the two gals working the front were really really pleasant and friendly.
Great find by the arena. We came on a day without anything going on at the arena and so the restaurant was fairly empty. Admittedly we also arrived 30 min before closing time and were still promptly seated. Good amount of outdoor patio seats. Ample parking in parking lot. Service was quick. Everything on menu was delicious. No words to describe other than go and enjoy.
Clean environment, nice patio, a bit breezy. Fast &friendly service, cute small grocery type store connected with delicious Brazilian treats. I got a gelato hazelnut ice cream bar $3..a bit spendy but nice for a treat. The foods wonderful aroma was inside. I ordered the Chicken Stroganoff to go $15.01 total, worth the price. Large portion, sauce full of flavor, ck and mushrooms. I will go back.
This is a very authentic Brazilian regional restaurant. I am Brazilian and I have to say that I was impressed with the food quality and taste in this place. I literally felt I was back in Brazil. It is not a fancy restaurant at all but you can definitely have the real taste of Brazilian cuisine. Me and my boyfriend ordered a PF (Couve and Calabresa) and the famous Feijoada. Both plates are very authentic and flavorful like in Brazil. We also ordered Brigadeiro and Beijinho for desert, so so good! My friend ordered a vegetarian Strogonoff and she was really happy with her dish. You can also find a small brazilian market at the back of the restaurant and buy the products you liked. The place enviroment is quite happy and simple, you can hear the brazilians most famouns songs in the background and we all quite like the service too. - A lot of people speaking Portuguese! It felt like home! The only negative point is that the location is not very good. Anyways, we highly recommend this place!
Brazil by the Bay is a phenomenal restaurant! This place was recommended to me by the owner of Family Business Tattoo SD, another phenomenal establishment. The owner is from Brazil, I haven’t had the chance to visit Brazil yet. One of the first things I asked him was about the food and his eyes widened as he unfolded the cultural dishes and their history. That’s when he recommended Brazil by the Bay. The service was very accommodating and I did not wait long for my food. This food felt authentic, you know how some restaurants “Americanize” their entrees, compromising the cultural integrity and indigenous ingredients, Brazil by the Bay did the opposite and kept it 100% real. I encourage other restaurants to do this, you should want to bestow cultural food in its full genuine fashion, with that comes a piece of history and proper acknowledgement. I had a chance to speak to the Chef and I wanted to give him a hug. I couldn’t compliment him enough and his face became overwhelmed with pride and fulfillment. I enjoyed the food as much as he enjoyed cultivating it. If you’re reading this, thank you again for sharing a piece of Brazil!
What a seriously cool little place tucked away in San Diego! I have a friend online from Santa Catarina, a state in southern Brazil, that wanted me to try some Coxinhas. The more I get to know my friend the more fascinated I am by Brazilian culture. Southern California has a lot of Hispanic culture here but you don't see too much Brazilian culture here. But what do you know I stumbled across this place while looking for a place to try Coxinhas, a popular Brazilian street food, and I found this place and wanted to try it out! The people inside were super friendly and hospitable! The food I tried was very tasty, and it was cool seeing other Brazilians going in and getting food too. After eating I went to the import shop attached to the cafe and bought a few things from 'em to try out. The gentleman running the shop was very friendly and recommended me some very good things to try! The Pilao coffee is def worth a buy and I def notice the caffeine from it when I drink it, which I don't notice from typical prepackaged coffees you usually find at the grocery store. I hope I can visit Brazil one day, but at least we have a place like this here to get a little taste of Brazil here in Southern California! My Brazilian friend had a message to the people here at the shop, and it's in Portuguese so I will copy/paste it here! "Estou feliz em saber que meu amigo encontrou este local, eu fico falando para ele provar uma coxinha toda hora e finalmente ele encontrou um bom restaurante. Parabéns pelo sucesso e desejo a todos vocês um ótimo dia, obrigado por receber meu amigo e pela recepção que todo brasileiro se orgulha, um grande abraço e sucesso ah todos vocês."
First time here, we just Googled a place along the way & this was a great choice we made and it was all because of the reviews of the repeat customers. We asked the waitress what she recommends for steak options & Picanha Steak was her 1st choice which aligned with the reviews & so we enjoyed a medium rare plate of that as well as a plate of some portobello mushrooms. We Enjoyed every bite of our meal with the hot peppers in a jar & the Cashew, guava, Mango & Passion fruit juices that came in tiny size bottles. We would definitely return here, bcoz it tasted & felt like a home cooked meal, without me doing the cooking or washing the dishes.
I feel like it is rather difficult to find a traditional Brazilian restaurant that’s not a steakhouse so I was so excited to find this. Omg it was SO good!! This place is very simple and casual…it’s not a fancy place…but the food is incredible. I highly recommend their Coxinha’s!!! And our waitress was awesome! Very happy with my experience here
We walked by after record shopping at Consignment Classics next door - it was super lively and a ton of happy guests were inside.. we had to stop in! Great service from our waiter and everything came out promptly, piping fresh and hot. Super fire housemade hot sauce brought to the table - the kinda vinegary type - soo good. My sandwich had bomb tri-tip, grilled onions and garlic marinated portobello mushroom pieces - super flavorful! The baguette was super fresh too. Got some flan to go which I savored at home - no regrets lol. Cant wait to go back 😋
Good food and the lady working there was very helpful and made good recommendations.
This place was so GOOD that we needed to go twice the same day 🤣. It’s an authentic Brazilian restaurant. The food was AMAZING, full of flavor, truly true to the Brazilian experience. The coxinhas were a 10/10!! The kaipiroskas were also delicious, I highly recommend them. The service was excellent, and everyone was friendly. It was an incredible experience, and we will definitely be back.
Great food. Great staff. I had the steak medium rare. It was really juicy and tender. The waiter suggested I use a hot sauce, but only the oil otherwise it’s too spicy. So I dabbed just a bit of the spicy oil and it was absolutely fantastic. I’ll be going back.
This is the first time that I’ve been to a Brazilian restaurant and it was absolutely incredible. The atmosphere was very relaxing and I felt like I was going into the Brazilian culture and the staff embraced it with knowing Brazilian food aspects on the menu. I got to try a Brazilian beer which was a first for me. Pao De Queijo and yucca fries, Tri-tip sandwich and a bobo de Camarao. Everything was mouthwatering job dropping good! We could’ve asked for a better experience. All the food was so good. If you lived near this place, you are blessed! Hands-down 10 out of 10 highly recommend it!
Lovely service 🙂 (in Portuguese), the coxinhas are legit, the dough tastes like real Brazilian coxinhas. The pastel was ok
Good food with a very friendly atmosphere. This part of town is not the best but the owner makes you feel right at home. Appetizers were good. Will try the beef dishes next time. Toilet is clean
Authentic Brazilian food and delicious. Worthy the 45 minutes ride.
Great food and even better atmosphere. If you're looking for authentic Brazilian food, look no further. While it's easy to find Charrascarias, it's not so easy to find any other Brazilian food. I was just in town on vacation but if I'm back in San Diego, I will absolutely come here again. Also great little store attached where you can find many Brazilian products.
We ordered 3 different dishes. My husband thought the streak he ordered was a little tough. When asked how the meal was, the waitress immediately said she'd replace and make it right. Insisted actually. Great flavor What service!!! My fish and shrimp in coconut sauce was delish!! Very friendly staff. Cute place. We will be back.
As a Brazilian, I gotta say this place nailed it! The food was amazing, especially that pastel – perfectly crispy. The staff were super friendly and helpful too. Definitely going back to the Bay for more Brazilian goodness. Highly recommend!
My place to go in San Diego for Brazilian food! Everything is delicious and taste just like in Brazil! Lots is space to eat seat and park! Prices are very affordable and great portion of food! We love their picanha and strogonoff !

An amazing restaurant! Truly a hidden gem in San Diego. Sue, my server, was amazing and gave great service, boxing up my meal and providing excellent recommendations. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone, regardless of if they have ever had Brazilian food (it’s delicious). Check it out!

Cool little spot . Server was really nice. She gave great recommendations & explanations of everything we ordered. Enjoyed the food, really liked the soda from Brazil. Pastels we're sooo good. Definitely recommend the cheese & guava jam, I believe they called it the "romeo & juliet." My husband ordered the "Feijoada" & we ordered some "Pao De Queijo" those lil dumplings of cheese are so good. For dessert we ordered the flan. I'm not an expert on brazilian cuisine, but for me it was yummy.
Tasty food but the area feels a bit sketchy
First off, food is amazing and perfect. I loved it and will be back. Docking 1 star because of the service. The middle aged lady that runs it is great, but the younger server seemed to purposely ignore our table. She seemed very attentive to all the other tables but would make eye contact with me multiple times and still just ignore us. It came to a point where our table had to stand up and approach the counter just to get our check and then again to pay out. It was odd. Food is great.
Was there on a Saturday afternoon size of the restaurant is fairly small compared to the amount of people wanting to eat there. There is a patio. There was one server for both the patio and inside she tried so hard to please everybody I get our orders out as fast as possible it was a huge task doing so and took about 55 minutes from ordering to good on the table. The food was excellent. So it made up for the wait. There were four people at our table and all had nothing but good comments about the food. The menu is a little pricey but the portions are a good size.

Our order wasn’t ready when uber said to pick up, in fact I believe they have started bake the Pão de queijo once we wore there makes us waiting for 35 min and end-up with uncooked meal (White flowingcassava). The hold is not the problem, what it aggravates me is the time deceiving.; Maybe next time just say it going to take 35-40 min, sorry we are busy. Thats it!
They have good coxinhas! We had fun watching what they had on the TV.
Chicken pastel isn't good at all. Add cheese to beef pastel, it was the best! Beef stake parmegiana was a bit rough, and those dull knives didn't help much. Salad came already with dressing, which I didn't like. Overall taste was good, specially the beans.
I can’t say much so that’s why I am giving a 3 stars. My pastel didn’t worth the price. It should have more beef. The Acai was ok. I went there when Brazil was playing. There was too many people and I think they were under staff. My friend said the coxinha was good.

I lived in Portugal and my wife lived in Brazil. We were astounded that they couldn’t get beans and rice correct. I’m pretty sure they were canned beans. They were out of feijoado at 5:30 pm. Even the pao de queijo was only fair.
We ordered feijoada, picanha, and a chicken pastel. The picanha, which we ordered medium well cooked, was incredibly hard. The feijoada tasted like it was being reheated several times, did not taste good and it actually made me very bloated afterwards. The pastel was ok, not awful, not good either. I asked if it came with catupiry and the server, who proudly couldn’t speak any Portuguese, said she doesn’t even know what catupiry is. That’s the kind of atmosphere at “Brazil by the Bay” which, by the way, is not by the bay. In fact, the neighborhood struggles with cleanliness and visible poverty. The Brazilian market next to the restaurant is good though.
Food took forever, we got our entrees before the appetizer, and the rice was not fully cooked. I watched food sit at the window with the waiters sitting right in front of it just talking for almost 10 minutes. I make amazing Brasilian food at home. Restaurants need to step up if they want to keep getting my $$.

Went to the Brazilian restaurant in search of a nice brazilian food, but unfortunately it wasn’t nice at all. I ordered the PF beef and my cousin ordered the feijoada, both real bad, no salt, pure test of garlic, no flavor, beans were cold inside and warm up on the outside. The place didn’t even had a cutting knife to eat the beef with, only butter knife.. Coca Cola had no gasification old plastic cups all scratched, and the service itself was just as bad, we were the only ones there and still was hard to get the attention of the waitress. I wouldn’t recommend, in my opinion if you can’t even cook a basic rice and beans properly you shouldn’t have a restaurant open. Kitchen looked dirty from where we were, and the most incredible in my opinion, “EVEN THE PAVE DESSERT, which I didn’t even think was possible to make that badly but guess ? This restaurant surprised me on that one too. Word to describe the experience : FRUSTRATION. Drove 20 min to eat a Brazilian food and wish I had had 7/11 pizza slices instead .
I ordered breaded chicken but was served chicken parmegiana instead. To make matters worse, the chicken was raw inside, full of tendons, and poorly cleaned. As a person that works in the restaurant industry for more than 13 years, you know that if you don’t know how to cook/grill chicken, you should definitely not be working behind the line. It’s dangerous and disgusting. I am sure that the guy that cooked that would never serve that to his family, why serve to a guest then? That’s not the kinda experience that I expect when I go out to eat.

This place is shrinking. Only one person taking orders and it got so busy that and she could not handle. Me and my friend sat outside for 45 min with no service. We had to go inside and order and the lady did not enter our order in their system. So we sat for more 30 min with no food. Then a full argument with other customers started to going on inside, the cooks were visibly stressed out. IT WAS A WHOLE MESS. Me and my friend left WITHOUT EATING ANYTHING. Trust me this place is NOT needing your business. Brazil by the bay was always messy but before when they had more staff we could AT LEAST sit down and eat something. And this does not happen nowadays.
I’ve been coming here for years, but my last visit was disappointing. I ordered the Tri-Tip plate (Prato Feito) and what they served was not Tri-Tip at all. I clearly know what Tri-Tip looks like and this was something completely different, a cheap cut, super chewy, full of tendons. I couldn’t even finish my plate and neither could any of my friends. It really feels like they are cutting costs in the worst possible place. Unfortunately, they just lost a longtime customer.
