Very nice breakfast place near the convention center (walking distance). First time visiting and we were not disappointed. Had the Benedict Arnold that was delicious and my friend had the two eggs with turkey bacon. She was happy with her meal as well. Very tasty and filling. The orange juice was fresh and the service quick.
Food was very good - from the infamous pb & banana stuffed French toast to the basic American breakfast! Service was excellent from a long-time staff server to a friendly chat with the hard-working owner. Atmosphere was authentic and comfortable. Highly recommend.
Incredibly fast service. We got the Eggs Italia, Churro waffles, and the Peanut butter and banana stuffed french toast all to share. Everything was delicious and it was a great start to our day. The cute bright diner atmosphere and good music was nice and cheery for the morning.
Cute quiet corner cafe about 7 minutes from the airport. Indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered the super biscuits and gravy, and the eggs italiana using egg whites. We did not order a waffle however they looked and smelled amazing. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. Sinad was amazing! We will definitely be back!
This place is a gem! Tucked away downtown San Diego. 7 minutes from the airport, Glad we gave your space a try. I ordered the super biscuits and gravy and my wife ordered the eggs italiana using egg whites. Services quick food was served hot and delicious. The staff here is extremely friendly and on top of their game. Definitely will be eating here again.
I stepped away from a conference to decompress and grab a much needed Solo Brunch last Saturday, and tried this adorable place based on reviews. Definitely a highlight of my visit! There was no wait for a table, surprisingly, and the staff was bright and friendly throughout my visit. It’s off the beaten path, so I opted for outside seating to enjoy the lovely San Diego sunshine. I ordered an egg (scrambled hard with cheddar), potatoes and a plain waffle, and was delighted by all of it. Best waffle I’ve ever had in my life - and I’ve researched this thoroughly, trust me - it looked so perfect, almost like a toy waffle in a kid’s kitchen set. Just enough crispy outside, but light enough to absorb syrup. Chef’s kiss! I barely used any butter, it really was delicious bare. Everything was seasoned perfectly, and the portion sizes were generous. I think the combination of 70 degree weather and a delicious meal sent me over the edge because it was some time before I realized I was out in public doing a perfect imitation of that Jay Versace vine from back in the day: shoulders shimmying, smiling, humming, rotating carefully between items 😂😂😂 While I was eating, a waiter went by with a waffle topped with whipped cream and giant strawberries that also looked amazing. I am a big fan of Solo Brunching in general, but this place? A must. You are going to want to focus on your meal, my goodness. I’ll be back, for sure!
Benefit of staying away from convention hotel is walking by and stopping in amazing places and meeting amazing people! The food is fast and amazing the coffee great and service is at a level I miss from the days when it meant something. Don’t show up at your convention hungry with faith in what they have for lunch! Stop here on your walk in!
Old school diner experience on the city corner. Good food, good service, classic atmosphere. We had the Peanut butter and banana French toast with eggs and sausage. We also has the waffle with eggs over easy. Eggs needed salt, but the French toast and waffle were great. Two people with Tip - $72.00
One of downtown’s many excellent breakfast places. Went for the stuffed French toast, but got talked into the banana bread French toast, and I wasn’t disappointed. Got a side of fresh strawberries to go with it and it was a very generous portion. Staff was super friendly and brought out a bowl of water and biscuit for our puppy. Only disappointment was the decaf coffee, which was tepid and tasted burnt. I suspect it had been brewed hours earlier. Enjoyed the patio seating, although putting cushions on the seats would be a welcome upgrade.
A small restaurant in the quieter part of downtown serving delicious breakfast items, including their famous waffles. The golden waffle was crispy and soft. The cornbread waffle with chili had a slightly more coarse texture but was also tasty. The chili had good quality ground beef in it, but was a little too salty. The Mexican Scramble had this pile of wonderful griddled potatoes had grilled onions and were thoroughly cooked to form a brown crunchy crust. Yum! Our staff was delightful and courteous. They welcomed our dogs to sit with us on the outside tables and brought them a water bowl.
Cafe 222, Island Avenue. Read the hype about this place. Famous waffles they said. Stepped in a Saturday morning. Busy but seats available at the counter! No wait! Waffle excellent. Same for the eggs. Nice neighborhood breakfast stop. Friendly and attentive service. Clean inside. A little off the beaten path but easy to get to. Deserves a stop when in the Gaslamp District. 👍👍
Breakfast This was such a nice, pleasant surprise. The breakfast places in San Diego are falling fast. Being swallowed up by things that elevate breakfast to a brunch. The idea of counters and eggs & hash are just about gone. Breakfast here was the epitome of delicious & quaint w/ plenty of room outside. The breakfast potatoes were the best I’ve ever had, & the corned beef hash was spectacular; for homemade it didn’t turn out like brisket. It was prepared so well with potatoes and spiced exquisitely. A little expensive, but a first rate breakfast experience. P.s. My vegan peeps will be happy with the menu as well. I kind of feel like this is what a diner should be like. The staff are Cali friendly and the menu is fairly straightforward. Everything g looks and smells good and the images stand up to the flavors. I had steak (country fried) with sausage gravy, potatoes, toast and two sunny 🥚 . Fantastic. The outdoor seating made my Saturday wonderful. Thank you 222!

Stopped at Café 222 one morning for breakfast and it did not disappoint. They specialize in waffles and the pumpkin waffle is simply the best. I love the unfiltered apple juice too.
Drawn in by the marketing that this place was featured on the Food Channel. But overall, I don’t get what’s special or unique about this place. The prized and “famous” waffles are mediocre at best. Tastes like the free waffles that they serve at the hotel breakfast. Not crispy outside and chewy interior like great waffles are supposed to be. Coffee is piping hot and served quickly, but nothing spectacular. I wouldn’t be raving about this place to my friends that’s for sure.
Cute little cafe. We got outside seating in a little courtyard area which was nice. We ordered chicken fried steak, Oreo pancakes, egg plate and the blueberry cornbread waffle. The food was delicious especially the potatoes. A unanimous family decision rates this as a 3 because they didn’t have fresh orange juice and the soda was canned soda, otherwise the food was good and our waitress was pleasant!
Food good. \nVery expensive for the atmosphere and the added surcharge added onto the bill without any explanation is just not ethical.
Stopped by for coffee and waffles - pleasant if not spectacular. Could be more fruit selections and real maple syrup. Turkey bacon a nice option. Service ok. coffee bitter.
