Callie delivered an exceptional Mediterranean‑inspired dinner that felt both elevated and deeply comforting. We started with the hummus, which was unbelievably smooth and layered with bright, citrusy notes — the kind of hummus that makes you rethink what hummus can be. The pita bread was warm, pillowy, and perfect for scooping, with just enough char to add depth. The fattoush was crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, with herbs and acidity that cut through the richness of the other dishes. It felt like the ideal counterpart to the spreads and mains. For entrées, the chicken main course was incredibly tender and seasoned with the kind of Mediterranean spice profile Callie is known for — bold but not overwhelming. The lamb dolma was a standout: savory, aromatic, and wrapped in perfectly cooked grape leaves that held everything together without being tough. The katayif halibut was one of the most memorable dishes of the night — flaky, delicate fish wrapped in a crisp, golden kataifi crust that added texture without overshadowing the halibut itself. It’s the kind of dish that shows off the kitchen’s technique. The patatas bravas were a fun, flavorful side: crispy, smoky, and served with sauces that added just the right amount of heat. Service matched the food — warm, attentive, and knowledgeable, with great pacing and thoughtful recommendations. The whole experience felt special without being pretentious, exactly what you want from a Michelin‑recognized spot in the East Village. Callie is absolutely worth a visit for anyone who loves vibrant Mediterranean flavors, creative technique, and a menu designed for sharing.
We tried the mediterranean feast, which was a delicious 5 course family-style meal. The only issue was that we had been told one dish was included but then was switched for something else when we were served. Otherwise, it was a great way to try a variety of Callie’s dishes. The duck breast was divine and I would go back just for that. Cocktails also delicious.
It was our first big date postpartum and this restaurant had been on my list for months. Arrived to our table with the cutest welcome cards! Our waiter was amazing with her suggestions. We went in thinking we were going to do the tasting menu however there were specials that we couldn’t pass up so we went a la carte. The wagyu toro toast is AMAZING! Best amuse bouche I’ve had in a long time. Duck was incredible with the persimmons, no notes. Uni butter pasta, wish there was more uni but truly decadent and the rice pudding was also so good! Cannot pass on the mushrooms too. Definitely recommend to all our friends and hope to go back with Bub next time.
I came here with a girls group and we love our food. We had Katie as our server and she was very passionate and informative about the food! She really knew what she was talking about and it made the experience special. Some dishes were a little too salty for the group but overall we enjoyed it. I was personally impressed by the pasta dishes (lamb ragú pappardelle and lemon saffron linguine) and the quality of the veggies in the crudite! Enjoyed the Turkish bread pudding for dessert. We absolutely loved the atmosphere.
Another NYE with fixed, pricey menus and at best mediocre food and service… Absolutely NOT! Yes, their fixed menu was pricey even for NYE, but they definitely knocked it out of the park. The food was absolutely delicious with very reasonable portions, and they didn’t cut any corners. All dishes were well executed and freshly prepared. Despite being a busy NYE, all staff were super friendly, and service was flawless. Only feedback I have is that dessert was good but wasn’t a match for the rest of the plates that they served and could have used some improvement. Thanks for the great food and not making me regret spending that much for NYE 😂
Loved the vibe, cuisine and service at this lovely restaurant. I highly recommend doing the tasting menu and it even has a non-alcoholic pairing which is a real treat for people that don’t drink. The flavors of the food were just spectacular and our server Sabrina was an absolute star🤩
Dinner at Callie was a standout and a reminder of why Travis Swikard is such an exciting talent in San Diego. We first knew his cooking from New York during his time with Daniel Boulud, and it is wonderful to see that same discipline, finesse, and confidence fully expressed here. We shared spreads of hummus and babaghanoush that were deeply flavorful and beautifully balanced, followed by the beets and roses salad and the setas con migas, each layered, thoughtful, and restrained. The pumpkin caramelle was a highlight, rich yet light, and the line-caught swordfish was simply excellent. Everything was delicious, carefully composed, and impeccably presented. So good that we focused more on eating than taking photos! Thrilling to see Travis shape the San Diego dining scene with such clarity and purpose.
This was a 5 star meal all around. The food - incredible. We did the Mediterranean tasting menu and it was incredible. The dips, the Japanese Kanpachi, omg so flavorful. The octopus was seasoned perfectly and cooked perfectly. The pasta - that pumpkin pasta was so light and refreshing. And the pappardelle - so flavorful. The chicken was out of this world. There aren’t words to describe it. And the beets? Best I’ve ever had. And the dessert…man. So delicious. The Turkish rice pudding was phenomenal. And the pavlova was the perfect mix of sweet and tangy. And the pumpkin gelato- amazing. Service was excellent. And drinks were unique and excellent!
Really enjoyed my experience here. All the staff was super nice, professional, and knowledgeable. The menu wasn’t too large but had plenty of good choices. We got the focaccia with whipped ricotta and it was unreal. The beat and rose salad was pretty amazing. The ambience was really nice and seasonal too. We also had a celebrity dining close by which was a fun surprise. Highly recommend checking this place out. Can’t wait to come back.
I went here for my birthday and WOW, what a fantastic meal. The Aleppo chicken was a standout: juicy inside with a sweet, tangy crust, yogurt sauce, and house-pickled onions that made every bite pop. The mushrooms were rich and perfectly cooked, with an egg yolk and cream sauce that tied it all together. Broccolini leaned a bit sour for my taste but worked well alongside the rest. The rice pudding, caramelized like crème brûlée and topped with pistachios, was good but not great—the coffee and date layer underneath was a bit mushy. Service and atmosphere were both top-notch, warm, and thoughtfully designed. Easily a top 5 dining experience in San Diego.
We celebrated a birthday here and Callie made our experience something we won’t forget any time soon. They created a hand drawn birthday card and thanked us for trusting them to create an amazing time for us. We had a good amount of questions about the menu and our waiter was really patient and walked us through the menu. We decided on the Mediterranean Feast which allowed us to try a good amount of entrees. Definitely recommend you go for that as well! Just be sure to come hungry! Be sure to make reservations in advance as there doesn’t seem to be much of a chance to snag a table without one.
Can I just put “absurdly good“ and leave it at that? The service from entry to exit was tightly orchestrated. An excellent business philosophy and experienced management makes itself obvious. Hannah was an excellent ambassador for the restaurant, and we felt well cared for. From Flatware service, drink refills to food delivery, every staff member was an absolute professional. Every dish was incredibly balanced and well prepared. Creative presentation and flavor profiles put this in the top 20 restaurants I’ve ever dined at. The one item I did not get a picture of was hands-down, the best and that is the chicken. Our party of five was unanimous that it was unquestionably the best chicken dish we had any of us ever eaten! Go Callie!
This was my first experience at a Michelin star restaurant and have to say I was very impressed. The restaurant was spacious with cute decor and atmospheric. The waiters and chefs were extremely accommodating to a difficult allergy. Our food was so fresh, tasty, and full of life. The highlight for me was the pita, hummus and fried yam with provolone. Everything was plated beautifully. It did get very busy so I do recommend getting a reservation. The tables were really small and needed to be cleared often which I felt annoying for asking. But nonetheless, great experience.
We celebrated our anniversary at Callie last night. Their entire team is incredible. From the moment you step in the door they’re incredibly welcoming. The beverage program is really well put together. The cocktail list is innovative and the wine list is accessible and fresh. The service team gave us great recommendations for food. We ordered a little bit of everything and couldn’t have had a better time. Thanks Callie!
Having dinner here is a super nice experience. Everything we ordered was fantastic!! Free underground parking is super convenient for a downtown location. Service was great - they helped add water/change plates/take orders in time. Need to mention they do include a 20% tip in the bill but they definitely deserve it! And the food is just amazing. Uni toast is a must - the toast is soft inside and crispy on it side, combined with fresh uni and ham gives you an amazing bite! The dry aged duck breast was surprisingly good, not something you can find in any restaurant. The rice pudding with pistachio gives the right amount of sweetness to finish! Highly recommend and will revisit if I have the chance!
My wife and I went to Callie’s for Valentine’s Day Weekend. The service was impeccable. Literally, as soon as you take a sip of your water, someone is there at your table to refill it. Every time you finish a course, someone is there to clear up your table and provide the next set of silverware. It feels like you have 5-6 people serving your needs at each table. The food was fantastic. For Valentine’s Day, they had a 5 course pre-fixe menu. The only course we were underwhelmed by was the pasta. But the steak, Mediterranean octopus, hummus and lava cake were all delicious. It had nice music and ambiance as well. This restaurant is a bit pricey so I wouldn’t go here all the time. But for a once in a while experience, this is definitely a great restaurant to go to.
First time visiting. Came with a friend around 8 PM on a Wednesday. The service was good, and the atmosphere was also very pleasant. We ordered the Mediterranean Feast, which puts you at the mercy of the chef, and I have to say it’s a great option on the menu. The food was well presented, and I can tell a lot of care went into it. That said, Mediterranean food isn’t really my personal preference, so while the food was good, I didn’t enjoy it as much as someone who’s more familiar with or loves that style of cuisine. My friend, who’s from that region, appreciated it more. Pricing felt fair for what you get, and overall it was a good experience. I’m just a bit neutral on the food itself due to my personal taste, but I can still see why others would really enjoy it.
Really, really delicious Mediterranean food in San Diego! I love the food scene here, and this being my first time at Callie, I really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. Went with a party of 5 and it was a nice place to catch up! I thought our waiter was just okay — not “wowly” amazing — but they did their job, and I have no complaints. The food was great, and the service from the helpers (the staff who cleared and reset our table) was very attentive. I also loved the menu options!
This place is great to gathering with friends, coworkers or just hangout at Friday night. Waitress were busy around tables, interacted with customers. We had lamb chops, pasta with uni and halibut, uni toast and setas con migas as appetizer, and three cocktails. We finished all, the food was great, the cocktails can be better! Remember to make a reservation, and the parking is a thing…..asking clear where you can park, the streets around the restaurant were not easy to get a parking space at night.
We had mixed feelings about this restaurant. At first, everything seemed wonderful — excellent service and an upscale yet welcoming atmosphere. The Mediterranean feast started off strong with beautifully presented and flavorful appetizers. Unfortunately, the main dishes didn’t quite measure up. The fish lacked flavor, and the steak was a bit tough, with the same sauce served on both the steak and the sashimi. On a positive note, the desserts and cocktails were outstanding.
This was a great spot for Mediterranean food with a strong Moroccan influence. The server told us that they work with local farms and producers. They have a 5 course set menu that we wanted to try but decided to go with a la carte options to try a dish that we had one eye on. In total we got 5 dishes to share - babaghanoush with pita, kanpachi, pappardelle pasta, crunchy carrots, and aleppo chicken. The standout dish for us was definitely the kanpachi which is served with a creamy green hot sauce and black lime salt which was delicious! The aleppo chicken came with a super flavorful filling, which was spicier than we expected. The charred lemon and sumac pickles balanced out the flavor really well. The carrot dish was one we would pass on since it was pretty plain for the price. The restaurant is well decorated but it gets extremely loud in there. I found it hard to hear my partner from across the table. The ceilings are pretty high so it would have benefited from the addition of more fabric/rugs to help with the sound.
This was my second time dinning at Callie. My first time long time ago back to when they first open. I tried to give another try now and my opinion is the same. If you are coming here for authentic food, this is not the place. It’s a huge fusion to the point where you don’t even know what kind of fusion haha! The flavor goes from Italian, Greek , Japanese , Middle Eastern… Server looked very knowledgeable of the menu, she made a huge introduction. We started with babaganoush, it was very tasty but wish they had told us one side of bread was not enough for two ppl. Ordered second side of pita meanwhile they tried to take babaganoush plate away 3 times till the 4th time the server just took it away. I was like what. Just felt like everything was very rushed, they just wanted to take the plates away for next course. The Japanese hamachi is delicious and fresh and the my fav thing from that night. I was very excited to eat dolma, my fiance is Arabic and we luv dolma. What ever it is that they served, was not it. Do not recommend it, it taste like they wrapped a whole piece of Portuguese sausage in a grape leaf. White truffled gnocchi was a special that night, it was delicious and creamy and cooked to the right point. My second fav. We also ordered the lamb chops which I asked to come with the gnocchi but server told me no that the flavor would not be good together, haha so pretty much couldn’t even chose how to eat my food that night lol anyways… they were okay. Wouldn’t recommend it. At this point we were a lil disappointed and decided not to even tried the dessert. Drinks were yummy, my friend ordered a white tequila drink that I don’t know the name but it was really good, my drink was Golden state. Some friends that I’ve talk about this place told me the chicken is good so maybe try that (we didn’t, it looked like huge portion).
