Not much to say about the atmosphere. It’s a simple, basic restaurant, but the service & food make it a place I eat whenever I’m in the area.

Food was delicious, you have to wait since they cook when you order it, but no big deal as this means the meal you're getting is fresh! They are friendly and polite. I have had other Mexican food before and I am glad I gave Carmen's a try😋. Definitely it's home cooked food. Portion is huge and price is worth it! I definitely recommend 💯🔥

This place is great. Victor is the main cook. If you order something, then be patient because it will taste great when it is served. Flavorful and not greasy. The salsa is excellent! Victor also supported making enough to build 60 tacos that we used for a work event. Food was packaged well and everyone enjoyed it. Finally, the place is genuinely friendly. I've been there three times and the amount of customers that come in and carry on detailed conversations with Victor is charming.

The food is delicious and reasonably priced and the owners are friendly, what more do you want???? This is my go-to spot in Clairemont. Try the mole, it's my daughters favorite.

I couldn't say enough good about this place if I tried! We walked in with two little kids and found the staff to be extremely friendly and accommodating. Rather than being annoyed, they were fun and interacted with the kids. They even made sure to offer plastic silverware for them! In addition to the amazing service, the food is INCREDIBLE. I'm sitting here eating my leftovers the next day (without reheating them since we're driving) and I'm still impressed. I am not a fan of fake, Americanized Mexican food so when I go somewhere, I want something authentic with no frills. That's exactly what I found! Authentic, delicious, and good enough to make me wish I lived close enough to go weekly. Because I absolutely would. AND! As if that isn't enough, the menu is extremely diverse with tons of choices and the prices are perfect! Honestly, I would gladly pay twice as much for how good it is and how large the portions are. But instead, the prices are extremely affordable. We will absolutely be back the next time we are in town!

Seriously the best Mexican food in SD. This place is family run and my go-to for Mexican food. Portions are super generous and the food is always fresh and you can tell its home made. Absolutely love this spot!

The carne asada burrito was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, juicy, and just the right size. The service was a 10 out of 10. It wasn’t just quick and attentive, it turned into a heartfelt conversation that made me feel genuinely welcome. I 100% recommend this place, not only for the amazing food but also for the authentic and friendly atmosphere that makes you want to come back.

I visited Carmen's Mexican food. I ordered a taco. It was a hard-shell Taco with minimal shredded beef/meat. The Taco was stuffed with lettuce and topped with cheese and looked generally tasty. The salsa was watered down a bit but was very spicy. Overall, it was better than the local fast-food restaurants in the area. The staff was friendly & nice like a local restaurant should be.

Was curt and not that helpful in describing the options- maybe bc locals and regulars come by that she felt that we should know what the options entailed. There was no descriptive menu so all we had was the names of things. Ordered guacamole enchiladas, which were in the saltier side, and nachos asados. Food was ok- but we wouldn’t drive to come here nor really come by if we were close.

Got a carne Asada burrito with no onions just guacamole and cheese which was good. The only thing was I didn’t have that much guacamole. So practically just all meat and cheese. However, the carne Asada meat was delicious.

Just moved into the area. Thought I'd give it a try. Chicken burrito of the driest meat over ever tasted. No green salsa.

Worst tasting food in the world . The way they cook it is just like the Indian street food on instagram. They took 2 hours to seat me and when I finally sat down they said "Are you sure you can handle the spice white boy." I felt the racism from the waiters the whole time I was there. I visited this establishment yesterday and payed just under 30 dollars for a Chimichanga and a bean/cheese Burrito. The Chimichanga had 4 small pieces of grilled chicken and the rest was beans and a tortilla. Bean and cheese burrito was all Beans and little cheese. The averted different prices on there website also. Food was Mediocre at best.
