I'm visiting from Colorado and wanted a traditional Jewish deli. This place fit the bill! I ordered the corned beef and pastrami on rye sandwich and an egg cream soda. It was delicious! I'm returning home today and wish I had room in my suitcase for the fresh bakery items!
05/09/25… We picked D.Z. Akin’s for my birthday and my grand son’s birthday dinner & cake celebration. Large menu… fabulous and different! Everyone loved their food… and the German Chocolate Cake was over the top good!
I've been here several times. The service is Always excellent. The food is Great. Large portions
They have a lovely bakery and have a huge menu. I definitely recommend the reuben sandwich. Best one I've had in a very long time.
Fun family restaurant that was keeping busy. Pastrami Reuben w/ Saurkraut was on point! Bread was just right and sauce was delicious! My potato salad was really good; also had coleslaw which I thought was bland. Deserts and pastries looked really good also! There was lots of food choices! I will be back to indulge in more of DZs!
Fantastically fantastic simply describe this slice of Jewish delicatessen which could be straight out of a Hollywood movie or old photos of a trip to New York. The menu is huge and to make matters easy I went in for what I was craving…Matzah ball soup (also called Jewish penicillin by my kids mom). It came with a twist not only was the Matzah ball huge the soup also had noodles that were cooked to perfection. The pastrami on rye (mini) sandwich was delicious. This establishment has been around since 1980 and I can not believe it took me this long to venture in for some great food. The atmosphere is totally New York delicatessen style and if that’s what you are looking for you will not be disappointed. This place exceeded my expectations. Enjoy! Tell them Theo sent you.
They make the best pastrami Reuben here! Whenever I have a craving for a real Jewish deli sandwich I come here. They have comfy outdoor seating too.
Great classic east-coast style deli! One of the better ones you can find in San Diego and they have a huge menu with some great unique options. Inside they have a gift shop, bakery and other deli type options.
Large quantities of traditional Jewish delicatessen food. Who could ask for anything more? The chicken livers were enormous and the sandwiches were stacked high. They serve breakfast food all day which was popular with some of the pickier eaters in the crowd. The dessert counter looked phenomenal, but we were too stuffed to order any. Next time we'll know to split a dish and save room for dessert! Update: food still great with big portions. If you order the dessert, make sure you share. They are HUGE! See pictures.... Coffee ice cream was strong, probably best I've ever had.
My husband and I finally ate here for the 1st time today. Tonya was our server. She is absolutely amazing and beautiful, We met the owner she came to our table and she was so kind and beautiful. Everyone in here was so amazing and that is hard to find nowadays Now the food We had The Chicken and Waffles and a side of Cornbeef Hash. If you are reading this make your way here to eat ASAP!
Dz Akins is an all around eating restaurant the menu is a novel and it is to hard to choose I spend 20 minutes just on bakery items. Try an egg cream my parents favorite. Try The Ted Lietner or the chicken and waffles. Black and white cookies. You will enjoy. That you can order everything to go including bakery good . Just call ahead or go through delivery service you will love it
Very interesting place with very unique food. That’s absolutely delicious. Everything felt so fresh hospitality was great! Highly recommended.
Consistently good. Reminds me of New York, or Chicago-style deli. Full-service Restaurant and complete deli. The staff is friendly but quick. The interior hasn’t changed in years, which only adds to the ambiance. (in this photo is a Reuben omelette, home fries, and an everything bagel). Once you slice into this omelet, there are loads of corned beef and sauerkraut. Multiple other breakfast options available.
Food was amazing and portion size was very good. The corned beef hash was crispy and the inside was moist. Service was ok.... server forgot quite a few items as in didn't write them down. Some were delivered, some were not. Didn't really seem to care Atmosphere is crowded and loud. Yes, it was a Sunday, but the tables are so close together I felt like the guests at the next table were a part of our party. The server couldn't even get between the tables so food is served over the guests.
Not like this place needs any more positive reviews. But it was our first time trying it after being in San Diego for 15 years. I've had Milton's before and it is good but it's not compared to DZ akins in my opinion. We got the reuben sandwich with french fries everything about the sandwich and french fries was amazing. The bread is freshly baked the meat was delectable the potatoes came out piping hot with a generous portion. You have to get their pickles!! You've never had a pickle like it. It retains that cucumber flavor with the pickle flavor it's everything you would imagine pickles could be. We also got a few desserts to go. They have a fresh bakery there that is out of this world. We got three items there were $5 a piece which we had first thought was a little pricey but when you eat them the quality speaks for itself. I got a version of a ding dong and a two-sided cannoli one size chocolate the other is a type of maple nuts. The cannoli literally weighs 3 lb. Shouldn't take a picture of some more things but I'm sure there's plenty for everybody to see online
We had brunch here and I was very impressed. This is a Jewish deli serving excellent food with very sizable portions. We had 5 star service from a server that's been working there for almost 20 years. I had a sausage and mushroom omelette with Monterrey jack cheese. It was very filling. My order came with potatoes and a muffin. The deli also serves bakery items so if you have a sweet tooth this place is worth checking out. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food. They have a parking lot with free parking. Pay the cashier at the end before leaving. Feel free to leave a like. Cheers!
I have been eating at DZ Akin's for over 30 years, and it never disappoints. Their food and service are awesome. Portions are generous. Usually I get breakfast food when I go, and their diner fare – eggs, potatoes, pancakes etcetera – is delicious; but all their food is in my experience. My kids noticed their service and said, "Wow, Dad, it's like they know what you want before you ask." Pretty much. 👍
I visited D.Z. Akins the other day and was thoroughly impressed with my visit. I ordered matzo ball soup, which was outstanding, and the turkey dinner which included turkey, gravy, vegetables and side, and I ordered mashed potatoes, which were great. The service was probably the best I have ever experienced at a restaurant; it was very busy there yet the waitress continuously brought us bread and refills. When I inquired about a bobka, which usually needs to be ordered ahead, she walked to the bakery and brought it over to me. I took it home and it was outstanding. I also ordered a cream puff which was incredibly good as well. Overall, I was super impressed with the food, service and atmosphere of this restaurant. As a Jew, it was nice to experience such a great restaurant that represented my culture.
Our first visit was already amazing. The are very COVID compliant and neat. Customers were being let into the store maybe 3-4 at a time? They were very patient with us as it was our first time. Seeing the big menu and bakery/deli items is pretty overwhelming, but they will answer any questions you have! We were recommended the eclair, so we got that along with some other goodies to accompany our meals. The sandwich is PACKED and can honestly feed 2 adults...but I was hungry 😂 their omelette meal is super tasty, and probably the most flavorful I've tasted. I'm sure the rest of their menu is just as delish, and we can't wait to try the rest of it.
My first time there and I loved it. I was in San Diego visiting my son and he took me there. The food choices were unreal. You could eat for days and never try everything. Our food was delicious and the service was great. We also purchased gifts from the gifts shop and baked goods from the bakery.
Hubby and I went in for lunch we ordered the French toast, cappuccino for myself and fried steak with mashed potatoes with mixed vegetables for hubby. And 2 order of Corned beef sandwiches to take home. Our server Jennifer was very pleasant. We will be going back for sure. Food was great 😋!
I remember coming here in 2008. I couldn't believe how good the food was here. staff was friendly and courteous and helpful. I believe I had the Ruben it was very very good. I am definitely coming back here next time I am in San Diego.
Always great corned beef or pastrami sandwiches .Suggest making reservations during busy hours and holidays. Open for breakfast lunch and dinner Would highly 👍 recommend.
The second time I've had the pleasure of enjoying (mostly) jewish food. I think my favorite was the matzo ball soup, second to that- the Matzo ball soup-- so I would definitely recommend both of them. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and it was neat to be able to see all the various celebrities who have also enjoyed this restaurant/bakery. They also have a nice gift shop as well. Will definitely be back
I came for breakfast with my family, and even though it was quite crowded and a bit noisy (which is totally expected on a weekend), we had a really great experience! Unfortunately, I can’t remember her name right now, but our server was incredibly sweet and attentive. We had asked for extra toasted bread, but it didn’t arrive right away because of the rush. When we decided to cancel it as we were leaving, our server apologized several times and kindly offered us two muffins to make up for it—which was such a thoughtful gesture! We ordered the typical breakfast plate, pancakes, and sandwiches, and everything was delicious. The portions were huge and very filling. Overall, we truly enjoyed our visit and appreciated the great service despite the busy morning.
Great deli, bakery, and restaurant. From the restaurant, got the medium rare Beef Liver and Onions entree with Kasha and Rye Bread. It was excellent. Also got the daily special of Toasted Hot Roast Beef Sandwich with Cheddar Cheese and Peppers, and Onion Rings. It was very good. From the bakery, got the Chocolate Coconut Macaroons. They were very freshly baked, tender, tasty, and not too sweet. From the Deli, got a half pound of Whitefish Salad. Very fresh and the best version I've ever had. Excellent on crackers and bagel chips. Update: Got medium rare Beef Liver and Onions entree with Kasha and Rye Bread, and a second order substituting a fruit cup for the Kasha. Both were excellent. For dessert, got a double chocolate cherry cheesecake square. It was a bit too sweet. It was excellent. Update: Got the excellent . substituting a fruit cup for the Kasha. For dessert, we got the bread pudding. It was excellent and not too sweet. Got Tiramisu for dessert. It was excellent. Update: Got medium rare Beef Liver and Onions, Pumpernickel bread, and Bread Pudding. Everything was excellent.
This place has a lovely gift shop a wonderful Bakery and a great family friendly restaurant. It is a Jewish run restaurant and all the food is kosher. I recommend that the homemade corned beef hash. My hubby had the chicken fried steak with a side of biscuits and gravy. Breakfast is come with a choice of toast, English muffin, Bagel or biscuits and gravy
How can you go wrong with this choice. The staff are always nice. I have never had to send food back or ask for a refill. It is small, but it matters to me, one of the only places that I have been that has green Tabasco sauce. That is reason enough for me to go back. Not that th food needs it, but I can't help myself.
D.Z. Akin's is a San Diego treasure! From the warm welcome to the amazing food, everything about this place feels like a step back in time—in the best way possible. Richard and I stopped by, and I ordered the latkes, which were golden and crisp perfection. I grabbed a side of breakfast hash for Richard to-go, and let’s just say he gobbled it up in the car without hesitation! With an incredibly extensive menu featuring everything from classic deli staples to comforting homestyle meals, plus awesome daily specials, there's always something delicious to try! The service was excellent—friendly, quick, and attentive. The interior is full of charm, with cute murals, retro photos of famous guests through the years, and a cozy, classic Jewish deli vibe. They even have a gift shop packed with unique finds that make you linger a little longer. The deli cases are bursting with tempting items, and the selection of sweets will have you planning your next visit before you leave. I went home with a Cobb Salad, a few bagels, and some Matzo Ball soup. Delicious! This is the kind of place where you feel the love in the food and the atmosphere. A must-visit for anyone craving homestyle cooking or a nostalgic dining experience. Can’t wait to come back! 🥯🥪✨
One of the best places in town! A favorite of mine since childhood, DZ Akin's offers some of the best deli food you could ask for. Interior is like an old school diner, which is the exact vibe we love. White fish salad is by far the best in town, but a huge menu with many offerings. A san Diego staple that I hope outlives me!
Deli sandwiches are one of my favorite sandwiches on the planet. This place does a great job. Their menu is extensive. Must have the mish-mash chicken soup with a dumpling, egg noodles and that giant matzo ball. So warming. Had the corned beef, pastrami and tongue sandwich. Fantastic with spicy mustard. Ask for some pickles to complete the meal. Will be back.
Extensive menu of American home style and Jewish deli favorites. If going for lunch, take a look at their daily special, as it’s usually a good $4 cheaper than off the menu. Get the onion rings, if you like them in general— side of ranch for extra deliciousness. The dining room is huge, and it seems, always packed. You can’t go wrong with any of the sandwiches, which come piled high. Service was friendly and helpful, but don’t expect fine dining: go somewhere else for that. Will def be back soon.
Ive been coming to DZ Atkins for years. I enjoy all their sandwiches and always order the MishMash soup with chicken broth, Matza ball, carrots, noodles and krephlah $15 bucks. Staff is always friendly. Quick service and clean. Sandwiches still are big portions and average about $18. Their bakery is great and serve fresh pies, cakes, bread and assortment of cookies (just remember to get a ticket while waiting in line. Parking can be challenging due to tight spaces but on street parking available just be prepared to walk a little or drop your guest at front door while you look if they have medical ada limitations.
An amazing place to eat and buy pastries. The sandwiches are delicious and fresh. It gets a little bit crowded at times but the servers are wonderful. Our waitress came to check up on us many times during our meal. The only problem we had was that we could not find parking so had to park in the street, on the side that has no walkway.
I have fun whenever I go to DC Akins. It’s a very happy environment and they’re willing to please you and kind and considerate and I don’t think the prices are bad either. Just want to thank you and your service is greatly appreciate it in these days.
Only real Jewish deli in San Diego. Food is always good. Portions are generous. Servers are very friendly and attentive. Love the little bakery/deli store onsite. They sell fresh baked goods and have kosher cold cuts and other items. I wish I lived closer. I would ho here more often
This is one of the best lunch spots in SD! If you are looking for good, delicious deli-style sandwiches this is the place to go to! I recommend getting the Pastrami Reuben sandwich with a side of thousand island and some onion rings with ranch. Good service and great food! Definitely will be coming back!
We stopped in to try the pastrami sandwich and it did not disappoint. We also had the egg salad sandwich which was very good as well. The service was impeccable! Tanya was so helpful and friendly! The owner stopped by and chatted with us too. They provided us with complimentary rugelach, which were all amazing! We stopped at the bakery and got some goodies to go. While the food is enough to get you to come back, the service makes it a must!
What a menu! Pages of yummy sandwiches and soups and entrees. And the portions are huge! I had the pastrami Rueben which was delicious. My friend had the matzo ball soup! One of the best parts is going through their deli and bakery section. My favorite dessert is the enormous and rich chocolate eclair. They also have a little gift shop.
This place is great. Many traditional dishes. The bakery is awesome. I’d suggest the Ding Dong. They make a fancy one but I prefer the classic. I’d also suggest the mush mesh even though I didn’t get it this time. I got the TED LEITNER SPECIAL - Corned Beef, Pastrami and American Cheese served on Rye this time. Really good!
Everytime I visit DZ Akin's, I have a great experience! The food has that homemade feel, the staff is always friendly and helpful, and the bakery is next level. On this visit I ordered the Western Omellete and a side of French Toast. This was the best French Toast I have had in San Diego. It's the right amount of sweet, fluffy, and eggy. The potatoes were seasoned well and crispy on the outside. Overall, the meal was great! That's not even mentioning the great pastries we got from the bakery to go. I highly recommend the Hamantashen and the Rugelach. Tonia was our server and she was great as well. I can't wait to come back. Eat up!!!
Best Jewish Deli in SD, hands down!! My daughter and I come here often for our favorite menu item (the Borscht w/potatoes). While we wait for that yumminess to arrive, we gnosh on the perfect little challah and butter combo. And let’s not forget the pickles! De-lish 😋 On our most recent trip, John, knocked our socks off with his impeccable service. Kudos to John for making our Mother/Daughter date night even that much more special at a place we love.
Been hearing about this place for ages, finally made a trek down here for date night! Had the Reuben, pastrami was good. Enjoyed texture and flavor, didn't have that overly cured/salt that you can get. Onion rings latkes a bit greasy but the fries (on another table) looked good so will try that next. She got the roast beef and turkey, can't really screw that up, aside from being so big your mouth doesn't fit 😂😂😂 Cute little store front and deli they had...someone needs to tell them they need real honey tho. I know a guy who knows a guy 🙃
Delightful diner with hearty portions and friendly service with a homey, welcoming vibe. The house made corned beef on soft, freshly baked rye was delicious. Accompanied by crunchy cole slaw and house made pickles, it was the quintessential New York deli-style experience. What sets it apart is the freshness of the ingredients. The kreplach soup was pure comfort food with a ravioli filled with seasoned ground beef along with plenty of noodles and carrots in a chicken broth. I also enjoyed the crunchy, salty housemade pickles that came with lunch. I came back the following week for breakfast, and it did not disappoint. Large portions, eggs cooked perfectly, an array of side dishes and bread options. Everything was made with both expertise and care. This is a great place to come for comfort food. There is also a bakery and deli attached with freshly baked bread and wonderful pastries, deli meats, and deli salads.
This is my first stop whenever visiting Diego. Huge, top quality sandwiches all the time, without fail. I know of no other place like this in the western US.

Amazing Deli. Matt is the best server EVER. So nice and attentive. I want him to be my server moving forward.
We enjoyed our lunch here a lot - everything was fresh and came out quickly. We ordered cherry and cheese blintzes, the potato knish, and the #1. The waitress gave us the hint to dip the pickles in mustard and she was right! She also recommended gravy with the knish and it was excellent. The service was phenomenal and really went above and beyond. The bathrooms are also big and clean.
So I’ve been here multiple times. The food is good. It’s a little bland most the time, I think to cater to the older crowd. But I’m never super impressed. The service is good. But it’s typically always busy, so the servers are running around a lot. I do dislike that the drink cups are tiny, which is another reason that the servers are busy running around refilling drinks. one thing that I do enjoy here is their bakery. The cookies are delicious.
Good, reliable NY-style deli, including a good bakery and many traditional Eastern European and Jewish dishes. Huge menu. Parking is tough at popular times like weekend brunch, else quite do-able. I actually like the ambience but I guess I can't honestly give it 5 stars.
PROs: Great location. Indoor and outdoor seatings. Sara, waitress, didn't 'seem' kind but she was attentive to our requests. The food is ok. Gift shop is quaint. Huge pastry selection. CONs: Parking is tight. Food quality and presentation have gone down. The potatoes appeared to have been scraped off the bottom of pan more mashed than cubed. The bacon was tough. Neither was appealing to continue to eat them. For over 30 years, when I'm in town, I make attempts to visit DZs however the last few visits have been lacking.
Some food here is great, however DO NOT get the sliced roasted brisket. Unfortunately the brisket was DRY and if you're an American who use to our way of making brisket, you will most definitely be disappointed in how this restaurants make their brisket. It was dry, and the only flavor was near the fat strips.
I had their delicious Ruben! The pastrami was cooked and seasoned well and the bread was fantastic. Even though it was 17 dollars cause it was a Wednesday . If it was Tuesday or Thursday , it would have been 13. Great food. You get what you pay for. Not the best place if you're trying to dine on a budget but it's absolutely a great atomosphere and a great menu. I will be returning soon.
I have yet to order from their very extensive menu besides their chicken fingers and fries and if that has anything or any bearing on any of their other food I will never eat there. But the bakery spot on! Whole Rye fresh baked delicious!
Ate here for first time and the food was good. The matza balls are a little bland but the soup broth made up for it a bit. The meat and potatoes and gravy were bomb though! Very moist and flavorful meat, smooth potatoes and delicious draft that brought it all together. The desserts looked very delicious as well but I didn't have room to try any. 😄
Great place to have a meal. Extensive menu. People are nice. Also have a great bakery for fresh breads and deserts of all kinds.
While back in SD we had to stop in to DZ Akins and get some cookies and treats. Not sure how much more I can add to the many stellar reviews but they make a good dessert. It's been a while since we had been there and we were looking forward to the traditional NY rainbow cookies but it seems they don't have them anymore. That being said we found plenty of other treats to take home. If you're in the area or close by and want some delicious treats stop in and grab a pound.
Food and bakery are great! Service, not so much. As we are going to our table, everyone is nice but once we sit down it becomes a waiting game. Wouldnt be an issue if it didnt happen multiple times. Other than that, food is good with generous but not an obscene amount.
Our son highly recommended this place so we thought we'd try it. It did not disappoint. Food was good but just a little pricey. But you did get large portions. I got half of an avocado on my chicken sandwich. Lots of selections at the bakery. Menu was a little overwhelming, there were so many choices, it took forever to decide. Breakfast is served all day so that's a plus!! The menu does cater to dietary restrictions. It was a great experience, I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back for breakfast.
Food was good, food choices that I do not see anyplace else. It’s nice that it’s not far from the freeway, parking not much of a problem for me but I could see a pain at peek time. If I had no parking in the area I would park next door and take a pie home
Ah, the Sunday dinner place I have come here more times I could count with my hands and toes. I'm going to start by saying the staff is amazing, they're always on top of the service. If you have coffee, that cup is always full. We always get the same server some how, she's very nice. The food. Well. The food is okay. I've had a LOT of dishes here, and everything is consistently okay. There is some niche things that are absolutely amazing like fried chicken or the brisket/corned beef/bagels Others are extremely hit and miss like the potatoes. This place is nostalgic more than anything. It's a cool place to see the older people and go there and relax when you're hungover on a Sunday morning. I've been going for years and will continue going.

matzo ball soup would have been enough, but I ordered more. Plenty of leftovers. Everything's tasty, if a little pricy. $70 for lunch for 2 (no drinks)? You decide.
DZ Akins is a San Diego staple, but their prices have ballooned to incredibly greedy levels. $50 for a lox bagel, latkes, and juice for one person. Their job listings avg $18/hr, just above minimum wage, and less than fast food worker wage of $20/hr. Where is this justification? $18 for 3 latkes. I’ve been eating here for decades and likely won’t ever be back until things change.
Came here for lunch and wasn’t super impressed. The food wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t anything to write home about. The Reuben was average. The fries needed more salt. I did enjoy the potato knish. The service was pretty good. I think the flaw of this restaurant is their large menu. There were probably over 100 items on there. It seems as if they know how to make all of them edible, just not any of them that well.
DZ Akins has a MASSIVE menu - prepare to be overwhelmed. We were there for breakfast and got a mocha (which was delightful), a potato pancake (which was also delightful), and an omelette and home fries. The omelette was good - nothing spectacular - but the home fries were mushy and tasteless. All of this would have been fine, but our waitress was so rude. She didn't take our order for about 30 minutes, and she never came back to check on us after she delivered the food. We had to go ask someone at the front counter for refills on water, and we had to go ask someone else for the check. We did get a couple of pastries on the way out, and they were pretty dry and flavorless. I would definitely skip this restaurant and find something better - there are many more wonderful options in San Diego!
Food was kinda bland but service was good. I had a chicken sandwich with fries, a potato knish, and latkes. The latkes was probably the best our of the three, then the knish. Decently big portions as well. The bakery was really good though and would go back for that.
The potato pancakes used to be to die for. Now they are just thin, extremely oily without texture or taste, almost $18 for 3 small ones

Disappointing takeout sandwich. They seem to have the vibe down correct, it's old world. But my $17 pastrami sandwich was a joke. Along with mushy pickles. People say that this should be several meals & it's lost of meat, but this was not my experience at all. Very little meat and 30% of it was fat.
The rye bread and the kosher pickles were delicious, but I'm not sure how this place gets such raving reviews. Our entrees were overpriced and so bland. Dressed up slop diner food. It's super loud and the bathrooms were not very clean. I would not recommend this restaurant.
This place is a greasy spoon, I don't know why people think it's great. The servers continually slop coffee over the side of your cup and don't clean it up, and are kept so busy that you are mostly ignored. They forgot large portions of our order and got other portions wrong. All the food we ordered came cold and there was grease on the outside of our to-go box. The inside is cramped and old like a zoo. The parking lot is a disaster also. If you want a good breakfast go to the Pancake House or Broken Yolk, DZ akins is terrible.
DZ Akins usually has really great sandwiches and great food. But when we got take out the other day, they offered a side order, and I said sliced tomatos. When the order came out, it specified sliced tomatos on the receipt, but what was inside was a variety of hard, barely boiled vegetables, none of which was worth eating. DZ Akins is a fun place to go but don't trust their takeout!
They have some really good sandwiches here. The Reuben is great (with corned beef of course there is no such thing as a pastrami Reuben). But if you're into pastrami then that's good too. Not really my thing. Also the turkey sandwich is good. They use real turkey breast which nobody does anymore. The French dip is also good - or at least it was last time I had it - with real au jus instead of cheap powdered bouillon. Also the steak fries are really good if you still eat that kind of thing (I don't). What I really like about this place is the fact that I always get the Reuben and always ask for it to be grilled in butter instead of oil. About the third or fourth time I asked they said that that's the only way they do it now, so I don't even have to ask anymore. Which is great because not only does butter taste infinitely better than oil but it is far healthier. But most of the rest of the food on the menu is just sort of standard diner affair. Not particularly good but a lot of it. But even just having a few good things on the menu makes it a solid 4-star restaurant for this part of the world in my book. So why the low rating? Because I am also reviewing the bakery, which used to be good, but apparently they decided to stop using butter so now it's pretty crap. I recently got a ding dong - which I used to love - and it didn't really taste like anything. The chocolate cake and chocolate coating had almost no chocolate flavor at all and really very little flavor of any kind. The cream filling just tasted like air. I also got what was supposed to be creme brulee but it was really more like runny scrambled eggs with sugar and cream in it. Not the worst thing I've ever had but for the prices they are charging, pretty disgraceful. So in closing I would say come for the sandwiches but definitely pass right through the bakery. And if you are tempted I would suggest saving your money and just go to the market and buy a couple of big bags of flour and white sugar and just start shoving fistfuls of it in your mouth, because that's all this stuff is.
The food arrived late burned and cold. I ordered breakfast for lunch. Maybe that's where I went wrong. My food looked old and re- heated. My husband's food was the same. I don't reccomend this plac…
Tuesday, August 6 - My husband and I had lunch here today. I had the BBQ Treat sandwich with onion rings and he had the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with fruit. To begin with our waitress was exceptional! One of the best we've seen and we eat out a lot. The food was delicious and made perfectly. The meat on my sandwich was tender and flavorful, and the BBQ sauce was perfectly tangy. On the way out we stopped at the bakery and purchased dessert for later..carrot cake cupcake and chocolate custard eclair (mine). YUM!! Today I rated it 5 stars...but then we came back the following week... Monday, August 12 - Last week our lunch was so good (as mentioned above) that I wanted to come back for another BBQ Treat sandwich. Unfortunately, unlike last week, the service today was terrible and the restaurant was only half full. It took 15 minutes before someone came over to take our drink orders and then another 10 minutes to get the drinks. My husband ordered the Mish Mash and it was fine. When my order finally arrived the meat was tough and chewy and basically uneatable. The BBQ sauce was bland, tasteless, and had no tang whatsoever. I don't know why there was such a big difference in taste and quality and service from last week but it was a huge disappointment especially since I was looking forward to it all morning. Even though I couldn't eat it I hate wasting food so I paid for it and took it home to see if my husband could eat it later. So, unfortunately, I had to rate it only 1 star.
Beware of their Birthday Club. It is a Bait and Switch scam. Their promise of a $9.95 dessert with $25 purchase is fake. They just tell you that the owner doesn't want to do that anymore. Even though they send out an email promoting it on your birthday. A good lawyer could make some money on a class action against DZ Akin's.
We've been there several times and always had the waitress come right away with to take our beverage order. We sat there for 15-20 minutes before she shoed up and didn't even apologize for the wait time. Had the worse attitude and never came to check on us.
We placed an order for the chicken to be delivered via door dash. The first time it was just chicken, no mashed or veggies came with the order. I reached out to Door dash and asked them to re deliver the missing items. I just got out of the hospital and needed a good meal. So I waited to eat another 40 min for the mashed and veggies to get here. Well, I was delivered just another whole chicken. Chicken is very good, but I had no sides. Someone needs to correct their menu or check the meals going out. Although food was good. I won’t be ordering from here again
