There’s a Mexican rule that says you should never try Mexican food outside Mexico, but El Comal in North Park is the exception. The dishes here truly capture authentic Mexican flavor. We ordered the pozole, and although the hominy could use a bit more of that chewy consistency you find back home, the taste was rich and traditional. The tampiqueña was delicious, perfectly seasoned, and satisfying. The nopal salad could use just a touch more Mexican spice, but overall everything was very good. The service was outstanding, friendly, and attentive. And a special mention goes to the agua de horchata, an absolute delight.

My husband and I have been looking for delicious, authentic mexican restaurants and I’m glad we stumbled upon this place as we strolled through North Park. The food was delicious! Out of this world! The place was surrounded with beautiful colors with a beautiful Mexican aesthetic theme. The server was extremely friendly, welcoming and kept checking in to see if we needed anything else. I will definitely be coming back! 10/10.

Best Mole in the city that I have found. Friendly staff. A little bit expensive, but thats only because I paid for chips and guacamole, but the guacamole is too good not to have it with your meal.

Great meal! The queso fundido wasn’t super flavorful but they had chicharrones and the rest of the meal was great. Definitely will come back to try the fish! Edited: changed my review to 5 stars after our second visit. The whole fish was perfect, as was the burrito. Fantastic service and they were even patient enough to let us practice our Spanish 😆

Love this place! I went there for my birthday recently, and I was treated exceptionally special by the staff. The place itself is not very impressive, but it has an old authentic charm about it that makes you feel at home. The food is better than what you get in Old Town, and you can taste the care that goes into preparing the dishes. There is an external eating area if you want to be outside, but it is still very cozy.

With all the choices for Mexican food in North Park, this one is special. The food is authentically special and the cozy atmosphere gives it a local vibe. We went there for breakfast because the Posole was highly recommended, which my wife was dying to have. She was not disappointed and my chorizo was excellent as well. I need to come back to try the Posole. Highly recommend.

Red Mole Enchiladas and Carne Asada Burrito were really good. The Cadillac Margarita was the best I've ever had. Our waiter was super nice. Like we heard another couple say, this place lived up to the hype!

What a great find El Comal is! From the margaritas to the home made tortilla chips, the mains we tried.. whole snapper and green mole enchiladas and ending with flan… DELICIOUS ! The service was excellent, friendly and attentive. It’s a lovely small spot in an unexpected area.. go and try it!

We went late at night around 7:30pm. We ordered queso fundido with rajas (didn't take a pic) the corn tortillas are excellent and made in house do not break. We ordered a Cadillac margarita, Horchata and Virgin pomegranate Mojito. All quite tasty. Food: Chicken enchiladas with red sauce. Smoked Marlin/Carne Asada tacos. 2 Smoked Marlin. 1 Octopus, 1 Fish, 1 Azteca taco.

When we arrived place was completely empty. The place is modestly decorated. We liked the fact that they don't use lard in the coming according to the server. Food tasted good. Service ok. But they charged us extra when my son didn't like his ice tea and asked for a soda instead. Also table was totally unstable. When we told server about it he couldn't do anything. So we sat trying not to push too hard on one side in fear of things to fall on us. Overall it was a positive experience. We will probably check them out again in the future.

Great food, the cochinita pobil is as good as everyone describes. The tacos are a little under seasoned but not bad. But be warned there is a credit card fee of 3% and they will not let you know before charging it. There were also only two servers and they're working hard for sure but it was a long wait to order and to get our check.

Food was pretty good! Our party didn’t love the beans, but everything else was delicious. Our service was wonderful even though our server was very busy. The place itself was pretty crowded at dinner time so you definitely sit close to others.

This is a pleasant and clean americanized mexican spot, with tasty food and good service. We ordered the cochinita pibil and it was tasty. Didn’t really taste like other cochinita pibil we’ve had in Mexico or the states, but there may be different ways and recipes to cook it. We really enjoyed it! For the dish itself, there was a ton of meat with some red chile sauce/oil which was tasty, juicy and it had a good texture. Also came with rice and beans and corn or flour tortillas. The corn tortillas were grilled, nice and thick, tasty and I recommend them to the flour tortillas. The flour tortillas were hard to shape, but also tasted good. The salsa was a bit spicy, so be careful. I can also attest that their horchata is what’s up.

I called in my order and picked it up. Service was great. Very attentive and friendly staff working here. The atmosphere is cute. Cozy inside, and has a lovely outdoor patio. I got a carne asada burrito. The flavor of the beef was good, and it well prepared. My biggest hangup was that there were pieces of chewy gristle. :( That is an automatic NO for me. I could not finish my burrito because of that, and I would never order carne asada or beef from here again. I had to take off two stars for this because meat quality is very important to me. As many have mentioned, they serve arroz blanco (white rice) here instead of the traditional Mexican arroz rojo most are used to. I was really missing the flavors there. I do wanna try the cochinita pibil plate at some point, so I will give them another chance.
