Mona Lisa Italian Restaurant is a long-standing Little Italy staple loved for its authentic Italian deli and market, as well as its restaurant. Customers rave about the sandwiches, especially the meatball sub and bresaola. Some find the restaurant experience inconsistent.

Friendly staff. Large space and sitting area! Great selection!
Nice location and small meeting room
Great staff and leadership! Baristas always seem to be in a great mood. I love the community wall, I feel welcome whenever I visit!
This is easily the best Starbucks I've been to in the area. They make the drinks better than average and they're friendly. The Starbucks by the MWR near Pier 2 is nowhere near as good; go to this one instead. I choose this location whenever I can help it.
The new renovation they did looks Awesome and coffee is good too...
I can afford coffee here once a month, nice to know I want get accosted due to my attire and I can go P
One of the best Italian sandwiches I have ever had, just had a great time walking around the store and enjoying the prosciutto, mortadella and the various types of salami. The sandwiches are huge and are reasonably priced for the city, we went back several times because the sandwiches were so packed!
Must go for a delicious Italian sandwich. Portions are huge and very generous with ingredients. We got the bresaola on focaccia that was great! (Expert tip: add chipotle mayo instead of mustard). Wide variety of breads and cold meats and the grocery store has a very wide variety of Italian goods.
Best Italian in town! Old school, family-owned business that's been a staple of Little Italy for decades. Great subs, pizzas, and pasta dishes. A beautiful interior with a great bodega connected to it. A really wonderful place. Highly recommend the meatball sub and the pesto/sun-dried tomato pizza. Check this place out and support a local staple.
Best lasagna ever. I went into this restaurant after having not been in there for over 20 years. The young lady told me they've had the same cook for 35 years and I said I want the lasagna because that's what I always get when I go there because it's so good. So I'm definitely going to recommend this restaurant because the lasagna is just as good today as it was back then to over 20 years ago. Also the young ladies that waited on me were very nice. I highly recommend this restaurant whether you live locally or you're just passing through come and get a great meal. Oh and I forgot to mention they make their own pasta right there in the store next to the restaurant. So that's an extra added benefit you can buy pasta while you're there as well
Mona Lisa Italian Foods is an outstanding spot for authentic Italian sandwiches in Little Italy. Everything is exceptionally fresh, from the bread to the ingredients, and the flavors are perfectly balanced. It’s a truly authentic experience, the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a local gem in Italy itself. The staff is friendly, and the lively atmosphere makes it a fun and memorable stop for lunch. Also a great grocery store with tons of stuff from Italy. Highly recommended.
Everything about this place is a home run! The distinct italian theme and delicious food really sell the Mona Lisa experience. There menu is pretty expansive and not too pricey. The sandwiches we ordered were a good size and quite filling. You order at the counter and pick where you want to sit, service was fairly quick. We will have to come back and try some different items!
Have been to Mona Lisa's many times and it never disappoints. They do have a restaurant aspect but my favorite part is the deli/market. They have a huge variety of things, predominantly Italian goods and cuisine. It's such a great spot. If you're looking for some handmade, delicious Italian sandwiches - you have to come to Mona Lisa's. It's hard to pick just one go to sandwich honestly! They have a great selection to order from and make it fresh right in front of you. The Capicollo is incredible! So well made, nice kick to it as well with the peppers. Highly recommend! The staff is super helpful and nice. The market has so much to offer and pick from. Definitely make Mona Lisa's your Italian spot in San Diego!
Deli/Market Review: Awesome little Italian grocery stop! Any noodle shape you can imagine is available plus probably more shapes that you’ve never even knew existed. The deli can get crowded (especially with the narrow aisles) but they handle it very well and it didn’t take long to get a sandwich. If you’re ordering more than a couple sandwiches, I’d recommend calling in and ordering ahead of time. They also have pasta salads, cold meats, baguettes, and olives at the deli counter. The Caprese sandwich was awesome and refreshing; highly recommend on a warm day. The shop also has premade meatballs, red sauce, cheese, and anything you need for an Italian cooking night at home. Seriously, EVERYTHING you need. Even a fresh fruit and vegetable section at the front. Soft drinks, beverages, wine, hard alcohol, gelato, spumoni ice cream, and other treats are also available. Really reasonable prices for the bags of pasta ($3-$7). The fancier pastas are a little more expensive (~$9-$18). Also found a gluten free pasta section on the shelves. If you’re visiting San Diego from out of town, grab a bag of pasta to take home as a souvenir from Little Italy!
One of San Diego’s oldest Italian restaurants founded in 1955. Been in operation for 3 generations, so as you can imagine, this Italian restaurant has some great history. The food was absolutely amazing. They have a wonderful selection of pastas and meat and vegetarian options for everyone. Everything on the menu is delicious. Even the bread they serve you at the table with Olive Oil. The restaurant has a really strong family vibe and is buzzing with energy. The restaurant also has an awesome Italian grocery store next to it that is always packed. They even serve quick deli sandwiches there too. So glad my hotel recommended this place to us.
This place is amazing it's my first time going into a small Italian deli like this..I didn't get to eat in the restaurant but I will definitely be going back to try... I was in the mood for deli meat sandwich and I was told that this was a good place to check out..I was in the area and definitely did not disappoint they had many different types subs... I ordered the number 8 my husband had the number 12. With two cannoli desserts. The meats are awesome to including the shredded lettuce cheese bread authentic to The taste.. I was very happy with what we ordered the cannolis were perfect...Definitely will be going back to try different subs. Place is beautiful the people are nice and overall if you're looking for authentic deli subs this is your spot.
Mona Lisa Italian Restaurant is truly a hidden treasure. Up front, you’ll find the deli and store where you can buy incredible Italian ingredients—everything from homemade sauces and meatballs to coffee and fresh noodles. You can also grab one of the best sandwiches you’ll ever taste. Connected to the deli is a cozy dine-in restaurant, perfect for lunch or dinner with family. The lunch special was an unbeatable combination of price and quality: delicious lasagna, fresh soup, crisp salad, and warm bread. I also had the best chicken parm sandwich of my life! 10/10 across the board. Highly recommend!
This is just a normal Starbucks. It's on Naval Base San Diego though so you need base access to go there. It's in the NEX complex (food court) so stop by while shopping.
Your average Starbucks the folks inside are very kind and do a fantastic job.
Very organized store with nice staff. Love spending some of my free mornings here.
Great service, decent prices. The lasagna was super cheesy and the best thing we had. The minestrone was full of fresh veggies whose flavor permitted the whole soup. The marsala chicken and spaghetti sauce were both lacking flavor which is why I could not give this place a higher score. Overall great.
They recently stop taking online orders which is so discouraging. Drinks are not as good as before anymore. New workers seems not to pay so much attention with their customers. It takes the awhile before entertaining them. I hope they can improve their service.
Bought a grande cappucino, the cup was half full. Half of the cup is foam. The coffee doesn't seem to fill in a tall cup. 😬
I walked in, and one of the two workers were having a full blown conversation at the counter, so I waited fifteen minutes for them to stop chatting, which I wouldn't have minded uf their coworker hadn't been just standing around literally 3 feet away from the chatting women. Then the chatting woman behind the counter started making a drink, and the other one continued to do nothing. I got my drink but the efficiency could be improved.
This place seems to have lost its appeal over the years. Previously my go-to in Little Italy, the food is now just average. My cheese ravioli with sausage was bland. The sausages were overcooked and almost crunchy. The minestrone soup was barely passable. My sister's veal Parmesan was tasty. My nephew's shrimp scampi had five shrimp and a veritable boatload of pasta in red sauce. We expected alfredo sauce. Isn't it strange? $143 for the three of us with appetizer, before any tip.
Store is nice and clean, staff friendly, unfortunately the lattes are not very good. Perhaps barista in training?
Tried this place when it was pointed out on a trolley tour. They have both a restaurant and a little market. The market had a variety to choose from. The restaurant was more disappointing. It was very dark, service was slow, and honestly the food was not what we were expecting or hoping for. The best thing we had was the garlic bread appetizer. We eat a lot of traditional Italian food and this was not it.
Picked up a meatball sandwich at the restaurant for lunch and probably had a total of 3-31/2 meatballs sliced up into 1/4-1/2 inch slices. Good flavor but 14$ for a few meatballs on a long sandwich is skimpy and disappointing. Won’t return for that! And then restaurant owners wonder why their numbers are down. 👎🏼 FYI This is an Italian American style Italian. Not what you’d find in Italy today.
The worst Starbucks service we have ever received. We were just there about 5 minutes ago and we’re completely disturbed by the lack of customer service provided by the employees. The cashier openly stated, “I hate this job.” And the barista clearly had preferred to glare angrily at patrons as though smiling would be a difficult task. Not only is this a Starbucks store which deals with daily social interactions with its community but it is a Starbucks store that interacts daily with our military- which in most cases in my opinion deserve a level of respect or at the very least a smile. We will probably never go to this Starbucks store again, we only hope the employees receive proper coaching regarding quality customer care.
This place likes to charge extra for secret menu items that normally do not get charged at normal Starbucks. I paid almost $9 for a coffee here. This is ridiculous! And they made a little extra, and I asked the lady behind the counter, that since I paid almost $9 for the drink if I could have the little extra that they made. But she said “sorry, no,” as she drank it in front of me. December 9, 2017 (3:37 p.m.)
The worst Starbucks in the California. I wanna give it negative. When I ordered a double shot espresso over ice in a venti cup, the cashier didn’t say anything. But when I got my coffee, the barista told me they can not provide the espresso over ice in a venti cup, only in grande cup. So you charge me venti size and give me a grande size? And I asked ice in a venti cup, she told me need to charge me 50 cents for that. Do I need to pay 50 cents for a venti cup of water? I talked to the manger in the Starbucks, she said that was correct, they are licensed by Starbucks so they are special than the other Starbucks. The most important part is no sign shows they can not provide the normal espresso , they are licensed by Starbucks and they are different! Thanks for your different services to the persons who serve this country! Other than that, most of the time they don’t accept the Starbucks app and told you their system is down. And also waiting time is about 15minutes in morning.
What kind of humans are you?. I would love to pay evem a dolar to charge my phone during my trip.
Incorrect service hours posted. In the website is listed as 1900, in the store display has no specified closing hours Mon-Fri, but yet they are quick to close before 1900 as posted in the website.
Used the starbucks app at this location and it was hacked by someone at this location so be careful.
Why is this Starbucks cost more than all the other Starbucks in San Diego.
My family and I went to try Mona Lisa after watching positive reviews from vlogs. Needless to say we were very disappointed. The pastrami sandwich (which had very little pastrami) was thin and dry. The bread was burnt on the edges and stale. My wife ordered the prosciutto sandwich and she said the bread was very soggy. My daughter ordered the ravioli and said it tasted just like something out of a can. One of our orders were supposed to come with a side salad, which they never gave us. They gave us the side of dressing but no salad. They also gave us a side of what I think was garlic bread which tasted like very old, stale bread that was reheated. Bread was hard to chew and burnt as well. Overall our first experience at Mona Lisa Restaurant was not a good one.

What people say about Famous Famiglia
Mona Lisa: Little Italy's Authentic Italian Heartbeat
In San Diego's bustling Little Italy, there's a place that feels less like a restaurant and more like an essential stop on an Italian grand tour: Mona Lisa Italian Foods. It's one of those spots that just gets it, offering a dual experience that's both a sit-down eatery and a sprawling, treasure-filled Italian market. Most folks, myself included, will tell you the real magic happens at their deli. This isn't just a sandwich counter; it’s an institution. Picture this: exceptionally fresh bread,...
Famous Famiglia: Little Italy's Timeless Italian Heart
San Diego's culinary scene is a vibrant tapestry, but sometimes, what you really crave is a taste of timeless tradition. And for that, I always point folks towards Famous Famiglia. Tucked away—or rather, proudly standing—in what's known as Little Italy, this isn't just a restaurant; it's an institution, a multi-generational family affair that's been feeding locals for decades.Forget what you think you know about "pizza places." While they certainly dish out a fantastic pesto and sun-dried tom
