A MUST MUST try place when you are in SD. The vegan sushi rolls are best in San Diego. Can’t imagine a better bite than stressed out roll. But I wouldn’t recommend the little italy outlet, there food is not consistent.

The red bowl is the Triple Tomato ramen with black garlic and regular noodles - 10/10 would recommend. Amazing flavor. I wish the bowl had been bottomless. I could live on the broth alone. All the compliments. So good. The purple cubes are the agedashi tofu- looked really good, didn't try. Other photo is the classic ramen bowl with regular noodles, didn't try. Next time I will get the beet noodles. Great little spot and fantastic cuisine.

Absolutely loved the Yasai! I've been waiting for real Japanese vegan food to come to SD for so long. My expectations were so high for this place I didn't think they could live up to it... They absolutely exceeded it! Everything we had was delicious even down to the wasabi. This is definitely my new favorite restaurant. Will be back soon to try the ramen which looked delicious.

Absolutely loved everything. The vegetarian ramen was wonderful. And the sushi! I didn’t know vegetarian sushi can taste this good. Sakura sushi is both beautiful and yummy.

Amazing new vegan Japanese restaurant in Kearny Mesa San Diego! Came here on opening weekend and service was surprisingly fast! Food was super delicious, hands down best vegan Ramen in all SD! Can't wait to come back and try more sushi! Ordered: Crispy Gobo Caterpillar roll The Classic Ramen Our server Juan was super nice and helpful! 12/21/2019 Went back for a 2nd time, super pleased and impressed, outstanding vegan food and service. We asked if they should split one order of ramen into 2 separate bowls and they didn't hesitate, really nice since we wanted some but didn't want to get too full. Ordered the Neon Gravestones (favorite vegan sushi of all time, must try!!) and Some Nights which we really didn't like. When I read the description of Some Nights I didn't catch the pickled tomato topping, it gave the sushi roll a really strange texture and flavor (kind of tasted like a wet soggy sandwich), the last bite made me gag. Too bad, wish I would have ordered another roll instead. Not saying it was revolting but tomato and sushi just don't go together (maybe they should use roasted red bell pepper instead)!!

Outstanding food and service. I was ambivalent to come here based on reviews. I am happy to say my experience was very positive. Portions were generous and the ramen noodles were perfectly cooked! We got the triple tomato ramen (1 spicy/1 reg) Agedashi tofu Corn ribs Vegan Bao Buns Update: 5/5 recommend coming. Dined in multiple times and ordered delivery from Uber Eats. Cost prohibitive to order delivery - however the food did arrive nicely packaged with the broth and noodles separated. I liked that the noodles weren’t broth-logged upon arrival. First visit: The price was as expected for two heaping bowls of ramen and (3) appetizers. Our waitress was busy but checked in a couple times which was enough for us. I can’t wait to return and try other dishes on the menu. Also take out is great!

I went on a Saturday afternoon it was busy but the food was well-prepared it was really delicious. I ordered from the vegan menu and it was such a well-crafted menu. This would be a place that I would recommend for vegans who enjoy Ramen and other in Japanese Foods.

One of THE BEST MEALS of my life!!! And I eat out A Lot! Where to begin …. the flavors, the colors, the rich taste of everything. And we ordered only vegan!! My favorite was the Tantanmen ramen in its rich sesame broth w seasoned impossible burger that tasted like the real deal! Truly. Out of this world delicious. I couldn’t get enough. Paired w the Sapporo on draft was perfection. Started w the vegan karaage which my hubby wanted to lick the plate afterwards, it was so good. Can’t believe it wasn’t real chicken. Loved the shishito peppers appetizer w the matcha salt as well as the caterpillar roll. Sat outside on a Saturday afternoon. Be prepared for a short wait. Can order from 2 other restaurants too, Raki Raki & JCK. YUM!!!😋

This was some of the best ramen I have even had, vegan or otherwise. The broth was very flavorful. The noodles were high quality as well, very thick and perfect to slurp. You can also order from the menu with meat next door. The pork katsu curry was good.

I was pleasantly surprised with how great everything tasted. The menu is huge and does have non-vegan and non-vegetarian items, so be careful when you are ordering and double check if you have dietary restrictions. I tried the Tantanmen Ramen (red edition), it was huge! I ended up taking some home and it tasted great the next day. I also tried the Jumbo Crispy Gyoza, crazy good, so savory! The Crispy Julienne Sweet Potato fries were perfect. My friend ordered the Vegan Caterpillar Sushi Roll and I tried a few pieces and I really liked it. The service was so nice, Kayla was our server and the wait wasn't long because we made a reservation. Parking was tricky, we parked in a private pay for parking lot up the street at 7670 Opportunity Road.

I came here with my parents for a early dinner and they did not disappoint. The triple tomato ramen is mouthwateringly delicious, and is my go to. My parents enjoyed the corn baby back ribs, agedashi tofu, and plant based chicken karaage. This place had some of the best vegan food I’ve ever tasted. I personally love the ramen, but every appetizer I’ve ordered was phenomenal. The garlic edamame is also to die for.

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to, and it's all vegan! The flavor profile of their sushi blew me away. I've had a lot of plant-based sushi before, but never to this level. Yes, it's a little pricey, but it's worth going here at least once, especially if you're only temporarily in San Diego. 🌱💚

This is my favorite Ramen place! They offer a good number of vegan/vegetarian items (highly customizable). Triple Tomato Ramen here is magical. There's something sooo special to it that I fell in love with the dish. Tried the other Yasai in San Diego after I fell in love with this place, and it wasn't as good :( Sushi here is good as well. Started liking Vegan Sushi (didn't know it was a thing until then haha!) Honestly, portion sizes are small. But the food is excellent, service is stunning and the flavor is so good. Highly highly recommend this place! Try the Triple Tomato Ramen without fail.

Finally a Fully vegan Ramen restaurant ! As someone who eats Zabiha halal and loves ramen, I’ve been waiting to finding a Ramen place I can trust and I had to try this. They had a separate vegan menu and a very interesting one at that. We tried the - Spicy Triple Tomato Ramen - 4.5/5 The ramen bowl was filling and delicious - the broth was extremely flavorful and you wouldn’t miss the meat. Dream Come True combo box - 4/5 This was more eclectic salad than a meal but they had plenty of appetizers we could try. It wasn’t very filling as there was more raw edamame and seaweed salad on the plate. The vegan sushi and Nigiri were amazing and we loved the dips Super Jumbo Karage - 5/5 We tried the karage in the combo and weren’t full so got more of it. Strawberry lemonade- 2/5 Extra sweet, hardly any options for non-alcoholic beverages Overall a very expensive lunch but a good one time Try.

There’s a vegan sushi spot in San Francisco that is to die for! I was convinced I’d never find another one. I was wrong! This place is BOMB. The flavors, colors, textures, all of it is culinary GENIUS! The real test was whether or not my whole family would like it. We have 3 teens who are quite the critics, especially when it comes to vegan food because they are decidedly NOT vegan. All five of us barely talked the whole meal because we were wolfing it down! Licking spoons and slurping down hot, spicy ramen broth. Omg I’m drooling all over again. Yes, I would recommend this. I would go so far as to say you’re truly SLEEP if you don’t consider trying this spot. A godsend.

An update to my previous review- We went again to Yasai and were happy with their service. We had triple tomato ramen which was amazing- it’s their most famous since 2012 for a reason for sure. For sushi, we tried believer and crunchy this time and it was great. Servers are lost a little bit. But food is great! So go for it! Lovely ambience! Good food and unique menu! Ordered stressed out sushi and curry ramen! Both were delicious! Servers seem confused! For what- I asked glasses for water to one of the servers who wasn’t assigned to us. And she was like I don’t serve this table! I guess providing glasses is no big of a deal! All in all, a good vegan place! Recommend it!

I ordered misoshiru, nigiri, Stressed-out roll (with black rice), Tantan Men & peach drink. Everything was sooooo delicious. Nigiri were beautiful, fun (and yummy) art work. Stressed-out roll was full of different and flavorful texture. Tantan Men was AMAZING, sooooo INCREDIBLY FLAVORFUL!!! The restaurant was very busy, atmosphere was fun, service was great! I highly recommend!

Wow I finally found an incredible gem in San Diego!!!!Very tasty vegan food and your meat eating friends will not even notice..they will be completely fooled how amazing the meat dishes actually tastes.. like the real thing. We had a really nice informative, waitress. Very kind and helpful. I really wish I live nearby because I would come here all the time. Do yourself a favour and check out this place. You will not regret it. This place is very under the radar...so enjoy no lineups while you can because it’s gonna get very busy soon. Huge bonus is everything is very reasonable priced. This is definitely gonna be one of my top three vegan restaurants in alll of California!!!

I was visiting San Diego and stopped by The Yasai, and I’m so glad I did. I had the Classic Ramen, with a few add-ins, and it was absolutely delicious: a rich, flavorful broth with noodles that had a perfect texture. I also tried the Stressed Out roll and the Extra Crispy Crunchy roll, and both were fresh, creative, and full of flavor. The oolong tea was a great finishing touch. Service was fantastic from start to finish. Friendly, fast, and very attentive. I would 100% go back the next time I’m in San Diego. Highly recommend!

This was my first time experiencing a full vegan Japanese menu and can say I was very pleased. The restaurant itself was not what I expected, the lighting was bright, tables close to each other, not overly cozy. The overall atmosphere was very casual yet chaotic. The workers were very friendly but I could tell that they were very overwhelmed. My boyfriend and I each ordered the $30 meal combo that included a drink, appetizer, sushi roll and ramen: for the quality and the portions I would say this was the best decision! The sushi was so tasty, original and fresh- I’ve never had vegan sushi quite like this. Overall the experience was great, I would definitely come back often if I lived in the area!

I had been here with my friend before but didn’t get the chance to review nor had a good experience. We came back again and decided to order more this time. The interior is a bit packed and the chairs are uncomfortable, but the service was exceptional. Here is what we ordered: Stuffed Japapeno Pepper: extremely delicious! The sauce was on point and the pepper wasn’t spicy at all. The Crispy Gyoza: one of the best gyozas I had. The veggies were well cut and season with the gyoza itself nice and crispy. The Karaage: this was decent - it lacked some flavor but the sauce made up for it. Edamame: no issues here. Caterpillar, queen dragon, and Stressed Out: each roll was unique and tasty. Our favorite was the Stressed Out roll as it was creamy and charred. Overall, this is a fantastic vegan restaurant in a busy location and we would highly recommend to vegan lovers!

INCREDIBLE!! I took my significant other here for Father’s Day and it did not disappoint. I love how you can choose order from both kitchens at this place (vegan or non-vegan). The vegan menu was exceptional, I ordered truffle ramen which was very creamy. My favorite dish that I order multiple of was agedashi tofu. The marinate and cook on the tofu unlike anything else I have ever had before!!! Highly recommend this place :)

This was one of the best vegan sushi restaurants I've had. I got the Little Italy roll, nigiri, vegetarian dumpling, and the agedashi tofu. My sister got the katsu bowl. While the roll and nigiri didn't taste like actual sushi, it came really close to the actual fish textures, and I liked how they tasted for what they were (tomato, mushroom, avocado), and not for what they're trying to mimic. Never thought I'd eat a non-fish sushi roll but I definitely enjoyed this meal.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Raki Raki and Yasai, and I was thoroughly impressed with their exceptional vegetarian selection! The menu offered a wide variety of delicious options that catered perfectly to my dietary preferences. The food was incredibly tasty, with bold flavors and perfectly balanced spices. Each dish was carefully prepared, and the presentation was visually appealing. However, one area for improvement would be the portion sizes. While the food was satisfying, the portions felt a bit small compared to the price point. Nevertheless, the quality and taste made up for it, and I would highly recommend Raki Raki and Yasai to anyone looking for amazing vegetarian options!

This place is always a solid choice for vegetarian/vegan options. They pack so much flavor and textures into the food. I highly recommend the Jumbo Crispy Vegan Gyoza, Agedashi Tofu, Brussels Sprouts Skillet and the Queen Dragon roll. We also loved the chefs special vegan nigiri, which is always changing. They also make a yummy vegan matcha ice cream. Please note, they have beautiful presentations of their food in person. My photo is from a takeout order I had at home. I also included previous pictures in person for reference. Give them a try, you won’t regret it! 🍣

This place has AMAZING vegan ramen. I'm saying that their broths are better than most meat based broths that I've had. It's not surprising since Raki Raki is one of my favorite ramen spots. The vegan Bao Buns are great also. Look, the prices here are on the high end but it's somewhat worth it. We got 2 apps and 2 ramens and our bill was $70 before tip. Speaking of tips the service here is impersonal and quick but they request a minimum 18% at check out which I feel is earned with a bit more personality and less turn and burn style service. Like our original server ghosted us after we ordered and you have to box your own leftovers, you can chill with the high suggestions. The ambience here is cramped and noisy much like their other spot next door. I'm adding this to my list of go to places for vegan grub still since the flavors make up for everything else.

Soooo good; I went to the yasai twice (once at each location) and had the sushi rolls, miso soup, karaage bao, karaage, and tomato ramen (with garlic add on). Each one was amazing. If you’re ever looking to expand, pleaseee consider Boston! XD I would eat here every week. It was a little hard to find, but The Yasai shares an entrance (and sitting area?) with a place called Rakiraki ramen. I think The Yasai is essentially functioning like a vegan menu?

This restaurant is fantastic, and we ate vegan only. The food is very high quality with tremendous flavor. The price is in line with any other vegan sushi I have had. We are 24-year ethical vegans, and we are complete food snobs, which we own, and this did not disappoint. Our server, Tina, was professional, fun, and kind. The parking is no joke. We arrived at about 4:45 on a Thursday for a 5:00 p.m. reservation, not exactly a time at what I thought most hip people eat dinner, and the pay lot was completely full so we parked about a block away in free parking.

What a great Japanse restaurant with delicious sushi! The sushi rolls are well worth the price as they are huge! The creativity on the menu makes it hard to choose just one or two items. What a creative selection! The vibe and decor inside are laid back and welcoming. I'm impressed how open it seems for a small place. Well done, and I'll be coming back!

** updating to 4⭐ as customer service reached out, was very accommodating & genuinely cared about improving their processes to ensure accurate wait times in the future. They also extended an offer for the dish that I was supposed to originally receive Free upon my next visit. It's only fair to expect longer wait times for a Sunday but maybe they could update their systems for those who order pick up to project a realistic timeframe and/or send a notice when the items are ready. I ordered pick up to avoid the waiting but I ended up waiting 30 mins anyway for a total of 50 minutes from the time of order. I verified the order with a worker but once I looked at the items at home I realized they had given me brussels instead of the karaage. The food was good and the ambience inside really cute but for the price of everything my experience was a little disappointing. Update 9/24/2024- stopped in for the bento box, it was delicious! Wasn't a fan of the seaweed salad.

We tried all the vegan options. California roll, cauliflower, tripple tomato ramen, gyoza, stressed out, vegan cookie dough ice cream. Among all these items california roll were the low point, while stressed out and tripple tomato were the highs.. Other than California roll, everything else was very flavorful. Friendly staff.

Want tasty plant-based Japanese ramen? Here ya go. If you want egg or meat, you can order from next door. The Classic Ramen with the Add In spice had a huge portion, fun presentation with the wooden cover to keep from spilling, and was delicious. My bowl temperature could have been hotter. It's a very busy place. It was hard to hear the person directly across from me. I wish restaurants consider the acoustics especially for folks with hearing issues. Parking was a zoo, fortunately people are coming and going. The parking spaces are tight so come early.

Ramen and vegan sushi were excellent. Crispy gyoza OK, would not order again. Service was haphazard. We expected the gyoza as an apitizer. The Ramen was served a good 10 minutes before the gyoza arrived and then it took as another 10 to get the Dragon Roll. The real issue was the painful noise level. I had a headache within minutes of sitting down. It got quieter later, but I will never try this place again. The design amplifies the noise. Overall, the place has much room for improvement.

Yasai was one of the most extraordinary Vegan Sushi/Ramen restaurants I’ve ever been to. This place came as a recommendation from a friend and to say this is the best vegan sushi I’ve had is a understatement. The wait time for a Friday night for 2 was 1 hour and it was exactly that long. They do not call or text and only yell your name when it’s your turn. We sat in the sister restaurant next door and it was popping! The atmosphere was lively and staff helpful knowing it was our first time there. The food came out about 10 min after ordering which was spectacular. The Sushi roll was crispy and fried, the taste was perfectly balanced not being too spicy. The ramen was some of the best I’ve ever had and the broth was as sweet and savory. The noddles themself were spectacular too. The two major reasons that Yasai gets a 4 star rating, it’s location is situated where parking is atrocious and the pricing we on the higher end at $20+ per roll. Total Time @ Restaurant: 1 hour Total Spent: $80

The two major reasons that Yasai gets a 4 star rating, it’s location is situated where parking is atrocious and the pricing we on the higher end at $20+ per roll. Total Time @ Restaurant: 1 hour Total Spent: $80

The classic vegan ramen and the Alaskan king crab vegan roll were really good. Service was good. The Little Italy location was also good when I went a year ago. The squash blossom tempura was really bad; it was not crispy at all but the cream cheese on the inside was piping hot and runny, like it had been microwaved from frozen.

Food wasn't bad. As a vegetarian, the vegan options were not bad, but the shishito peppers and the vegan scallops were the best. It was quite loud at the restaurant and was very hard to have a conversation. The service was great, but at times came by too much to ask how things were, interrupting our conversation quite often.

Went for the soft opening on Thursday and was seated right by the open kitchen. The crew were busy the whole time dishing out rolls but still managed to keep a smile on! Having had vegan sushi before in San Francisco and being a huge fan of RakiRaki I was super excited but a lot of the food did not live upto the hype. Also there was a long wait to get our order while people who arrived after us ate and left. Thankfully they made up for this inconvenience by giving a discount. The fried gobo was great and the gyoza was good. The curry ramen smelled great but lacked any real flavor and seasoning. The unsteady and the hype rolls were our favorite. The tuna roll and kind and queen were average. Overall a reasonable dining experience and would go back to try more things.

We had high hopes for vegan sushi but we’re thrown off that they also serve meat here. We had the pretzel sliders which were good, but the sushi was just ok. We shared the Hanzo sword and Spyder rolls, beautiful presentation but I feel like I’ve eaten better vegan sushi. We were also not seated in the Yasai portion of the restaurant and it was really noisy. Sorry, not my favourite place!

*Delicious food, poor service.* The dishes I tried were very good—flavorful, well-presented, and vegan. However, I was part of a group of 12, which may have contributed to the poor service. Our server was inattentive, rarely checked on us, and didn’t ask how everything was until the end. There were several mistakes with our orders, and the main courses were brought out before the appetizers, with all the dishes arriving at different times. We had to repeatedly ask for basics like glasses and plates. My friends and I were disappointed, especially since a 20% tip was automatically added for large groups. It seemed like the staff lacked proper training in the service industry. I wouldn't return to this location but might consider trying the one in Little Italy.

They told us on call that we can get jain sushi (any type) and ramen. Ended up eating vegan avocado kappa roll (cucumber, avocado, sesame seeds) which tasted pretty okay. Other sushi sauces had garlic. Couldn't eat ramen as it has onion and garlic too. I'd say not a great option for jain people.

Parking in this plaza is horrendous. Best to park on the street. I was excited to eat here to try their vegan dishes but I was disappointed on the selection. The Yasai gives you the menu of both establishments (Rakiraki) so the others ordered meat dishes. I ordered a vegan crunchy roll ($18) while everyone else ordered from Rakiraki menu. Our table got Chicken karaage curry ($17.40), Fiery red crispy karaage super jumbo box ($13.40), and Stuffed jalapeños pepper ($9.95). Extra crispy gyoza ($10.96 for 5). The crunchy roll was bland. It was not crunchy. The red exterior is from beets when it looked like hot Cheetos. The fiery red crispy karaage was made with 8 red peppers and it was not spicy. The food was mediocre and if I had to choose, the winner of the night would be the stuffed jalapeños pepper. It had the most flavor and I wanted more. Giving it a solid two stars. I just think there are better places out there as far as quality, taste, food, service and ample parking. I’ve been to Rakiraki when they first opened for ramen and came again when they first launched the ramen burger and I wasn’t a fan. Now The Yasai adds to that list. It wasn’t anything special when the restaurants aren’t separated. It’s great that you can order from both places but it makes me wonder if they share a kitchen, which wouldn’t be cool for those that are vegan. Although you do see through the clear glass when they make the rolls.

First, the Ramen was really good, much better than I was expecting, but man it was such a turn off to be surrounded my meat eaters and plates full of fried chicken and chasiu in a vegan/plant based restaurant. They pretty much use the place as additional seating for RakiRaki. Good for lining the owner's pockets, I guess. I also had the vegan bao buns, and they were pretty good as well. However, the vegan karaage is more like chicken nuggets than karaage. I'd put this place last on my list the next time I'm craving ramen just because of the atmosphere.

We were a group of 3. We ordered bao buns and classic ramen The classic ramen was a bad choice with kombucha and bamboo shoots it wasn't tasty at all ! Would not recommend this dish. The bao buns was good but it was too expensive for less quantity. The service wasn't good, we asked for spices for ramen but they didn't give us

We've been loyal customers since they opened in 2019. But the food and the service has significantly went down hill. The triple tomato ramen is so thick like spaghetti with sauce and no flavor. Same with the classic ramen. The service wasn't good. They never checked on us and how we are doing with our food and then not refill the water. Used to be our favorite vegan restaurant . But that has changed. We won't be back
