Pelicana Chicken is known for its crispy, juicy Korean fried chicken with flavorful sauces and spicy dishes like the cheesy buldak and ddeokbokki. Customers praise the excellent service and atmosphere, though some note parking can be challenging and the spice levels are intense.

I recommend lemon jin if you don't like the taste of alc but still want to drink alc. I personally thought it just tasted like soda, so I didn't like it much. Ddeokbokki is good, nothing special. I ordered crispy soy half and signature sauce half. The portions are bigger than I thought. The food was very good. It's a good drinking place : )
The Korean fried chicken here is great! Love the crispiness of the chicken! They also have other appetizers like cheese buldak, fries, chicken gizzards etc to add variety to your chicken meal. I really enjoyed the chicken gizzards. You don't find these in many places. They also have Korean beers (bottled) and local craft beers on tap.
First time coming here with the family! Hands down gotta get there fried 🍗 🐔 It's delicious!!! 😋 crispy chicken is a must! Bummed I forgot to take a pic of the delicious chicken! D: though I did manage to remember taking a picture of the yummy side dish!😍 Customer service was amazing! Thank you Phillips! 💓 Great from start to finish! Very attentive & made the experience even more enjoyable with his charming personality! Make sure to order a Sapporo beer! With Phillip's 🍻🍺😉 Planning on coming again!!! Nice atmosphere cool place to chill and hangout!👌💯🔥
Food here was delicious, the chicken came out hot and crispy. The skin was crunchy and the sauce was great. We got the original sauce and the regular fried chicken. Both were very delicious. We also got the house fries with snow cheese. The snow cheese gave the fries a great taste, similar to truffles.
Pelicana Chicken was a great takeout option experience. I first visited this location and used the kiosk to decide on what to order. But my friend and I had a lot of questions, so we asked the staff a lot of them. She was very nice and explained the differences and gave her recommendations. We decided to get the signature chicken with sauces on the side. We got the original and honey mustard. We also got an order of the corn cheese. It didn’t take long for us to get our order and leave. However, when we got home, we noticed the radish was missing. Overall, the food was really great. The signature sauce was better than the honey mustard. The service was fast and quick. We went on a Saturday around 4:30 pm and it wasn’t very busy. But the plaza parking was crowded. They do accept American Express at the kiosk.
Loved the chicken from this place! Juicy on the inside crispy on the outside. The signature sauce is so good, and so is the cheese flavor. I will be coming back here a lot.
They could use some more staff. I like automation but I also like service... Otherwise their chicken is good 👍🏽. Possibly my 2nd place favorite in regards to Korean fried chicken.
Ordered to-go. The half sauce boneless are no joke. Some really good stuff.
This restaurant serves authentic Korean fried chicken. The atmosphere is modern and cool, providing a great dining experience. All dishes are delicious, with generous portions that are perfect for sharing. I highly recommend this place as a gem of San Diego. If you're looking to try real Korean fried chicken, this is a must-visit.🍗
This Pelicana Chicken on Balboa Avenue in San Diego is, by far, the best location we’ve tried among all the Pelicana Chicken chains. We visited this Korean Chicken Wings Restaurant during our last trip to San Diego. We came here for dinner. The ambiance of this place was charming. The decor was warm and inviting, and K-pop fans will especially love the atmosphere. The upbeat music added a lively touch to the dining experience, making it a great spot to enjoy your meal while vibing to your favorite tracks. The menu was extensive, offering a variety of sauces that cater to all taste buds - from the classic No Sauce to the bold Blazing Mayo. We ordered Peli Cheese Ball and Half Crispy Fried Boneless Chicken. The food was served really fast. The Peli Cheese Ball was absolutely bursting with flavor, and I highly recommend the Half Crispy Fried Boneless Chicken for its incredible taste and aroma. It’s a must-try! Their overall service was good. The staff were humble, friendly, and cooperative. The prices were very reasonable. Overall, Pelicana Chicken in San Diego is a fantastic spot for anyone craving Korean Fried Chicken and a fun atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu in the future!
Another Korean Fried Chicken joint has come to San Diego, and they're definitely making a name for themselves with their variety of sauces, chicken selections, and quality ingredients. I'm a huge Korean Fried Chicken fiend, so I welcome more businesses, especially if they deliver delicious food like Pelicana! - PARKING - The lot is quite small, and seems always to be filled with 1 or 2 spots open for the times I've been here. There is an adjacent side street that I believe you can street park on. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Huge open indoor seating area, with your typical 4-6 person tables, some high tables, and a few bar seats. There's also an outdoor patio area, but it wasn't open the last time we came in. They have several big TV screens - perfect for current events with the World Cup going on! A waiter will greet you when you walk in, and show you to your table. Our waitress was absolutely amazing - super attentive and kept checking in on us multiple times. The food service has improved tremendously since their soft opening, with all of our items coming out at a very fast rate! - FOOD - Original Fried Chicken (Half 9pcs - $15.00): The OG, plain fried chicken! Nice crispy batter - for the texture, think battered smooth onion rings. The chicken was very moist and juicy inside, even though the outside is crisp! We also got a few sauces on the side - I love my spice, and the Hot Spicy was my personal favorite, but the Signature and Smoky Hot were delicious as well. Crispy Fried Chicken (Half 9pcs - $16.00): I personally like the Crispy Fried Chicken more than the Original - there's something about the extra crunch that is AMAZING. The big thing is that the chicken isn't overly oily either! Once again, the chicken inside is kept juicy. Crispy Fried Chicken Wings, Garlic (9pcs - $17.00): I also wanted to try their Chicken Wings, as well as a sauce that is mixed in. Garlic and Soy are not available to be sauces on the side, so I definitely wanted to try one of those. If you like Garlic, you'll LOVE this. Perfect amount of sauce that doesn't take away from the crispy skin, but still a delicious coating on top! Ddukbokki ($15.00): A classic, fan-favorite for all Korean food lovers. Usually I get this only when I'm craving it, and I was craving it this time around! I don't usually have high expectations, but they cooked their rice cakes perfectly! Just the right amount of chewiness! This was definitely spicier than other Ddukbokki I've had at other places, but again, I love my spice! Just beware if you're not used to some heat! Cheese Buldak ($25.00): Spicy/Fire Chicken with cheese on top. There's Chicken, Bell Peppers, Onions, all mixed in a firey sauce with delicious melty cheese covering it all. Perfect for those cheese pulls around your chicken wings! This is quite pricey, but I'm glad I tried it at least once! I may not get it too often unless I'm with a group to share with. They have a fairly good selection of Draft Beer! They also have Soju available here... so you know you want to have Somaek (Soju + Beer) with your Chicken! - OVERALL - Definitely the crispiest/crunchiest Korean Fried Chicken I've had in San Diego. Although their prices are a bit higher, the quality and taste does make up for the extra few dollars. I would 100% recommend you get the Crispy Fried Chicken for the extra crunch, but maybe try the Original side-by-side if it's your first time!
Gabriel is a young “master” restaurateur. Food was excellent, Atmosphere is a bit basic. The staff well trained and professional. The 1/2 order was enough for 2 I took half with me
It's one of the best korean fried chicken places I've been to. It was kind of weird that they weren't playing korean music though. The chicken is always really crispy and has a nice crunch. Love their flavors
Excellent fried chicken and good and spicy. Even the one and two star spicy were both respectably hot. I need to return for the hottest option. If you want vegetables, the sea snail salad is a good option to add. Make sure you grab gloves on the table and toss your scraps into the small bins as you go. Shaken fries were too sweet for my tastes and I don't think I'll get them again. Beer tap lines were clean and the selection includes some great local beer choices including Fall Plenty for All pilsner. For a group of five two full chicken options gave us plenty of food along with the sea snail salad and fries.
My mother in law found this place online and we decided to check it out. Everything we had was absolutely wonderful. The shaken fries were something else. We've never had anything like this before and they were spectacular! The ddeokbokki was the perfect amount of spicy for my husband and me. The cheese balls were so good!! The outer layer was rice cake, deep-fried! Holy moly these things were amazing. The chicken was FRESH out of the fryer, HOT. They were juicy and moist on the inside and crispy-crunchy on the outside. The service was so wonderful! They were attentive and patient with us as we figured out what we wanted. And to top it off, we were given a complimentary dessert item that was not yet on the menu (assuming they were trialing them out). Christ! Like, take a donut and mix it with rice cake. Deep fry. Cover in cinnamon sugar. Chef's kiss.
Solid option for Korean Fried Chicken in SD! Came here on a weekday night and it was absolutely packed. We got the boneless chicken with their signature sauce, since they were sold out of bone-in chicken and wings. Very filling portions and the sauce was delicious. I'm not the biggest fan of boneless, but it was done surprisingly well, wasn't too chewy. Their shaken fries and complimentary picked radish was also super delicious. They also have a late night special for a $3 order of shaken fries and $4 Sapporo draft, highly recommend both. Service was super friendly and attentive despite how busy it was! Would definitely come back to try their bone-in chicken and wings!
Glad that this franchise has come to San Diego. The crispy plain chicken was great though there are options with sauce that will probably be good. Their chicken is neither salty nor greasy which is nice. Pairs well with beer. There is a good selection of local beer but you can also enjoy Korean beer and soju. The portions are good for sharing with friends and parking was easy on a Saturday afternoon.
This is probably the most Korean-style chicken you’ll find in San Diego. And seriously… their cheese balls are EVERYTHING. 🧀🔥 If you can’t find a parking spot, just remember — you’re right next to H Mart!
Are you looking for some legit crispy chicken?! One of my favorite spots has to be Pelicana. They specialize in Korean fried chicken which is perfectly crunchy and super juicy slathered in flavorful sauces. You definitely have to try their Korean dishes too. The cheesy buldak is loaded with spicy chicken and their dukbokki rice cakes are super soft. Of course you have to wash everything down with a refreshing draft beer!
I’ve been looking for a restaurant that serves Dak Gang Jeong for years. No chicken shops had any decent offerings. Until now! The crisp is amazing even after driving back home with it. The sauce is not too sweet and not too spicy. There is even sweet rice cake cut up into bite size pieces though I wish it were longer. Wishing the establishment a long success. And to reviewers who write “…this place won’t be in business long”…they have zero respect for small businesses. It’s about community and suggesting for improvements…not degrading a franchise for mistreating you one time so that you get your small token of retribution. Will be back for more!

Awesome chicken place! I got the crispy chicken, chicken really did live up to it’s name since it was the perfect amount of crunchy. The workers here were also very helpful and kind, service here is 10/10. The chicken itself was absolutely delicious, I love fried chicken a lot and I’ve tried other popular places, but this chicken was so different. In each wing that we got, it was so full of meat and it was so juicy which is something that I don’t usually see from places like bonchon or bbq chicken. The side dishes as well were very delicious! Looking forward to my next meal here at Pelicana 😋😋
The food was absolutely amazing! The service was excellent! The atmosphere was great! We will definitely be back. We wanted to try every single dish on the menu! Tried 4 this time and will be back to try the other dishes. This is a must go to place!
Our first visit and not our last. Freshly made to order. Kind and attentive server helped answer any questions we had. The food was excellent, but a warning, spicy means SPICY. Our kids loved the food too. They also had a nice beer selection

The store was pretty empty when we went, which was around lunchtime on a weekday. Most people who order here order takeout, with only a few doing dine in. We were a bit worried that the chicken wouldn’t retain its crispiness with the sauce but were pleasantly surprised that it was still crunchy. They offer regular and crispy chicken, and we ordered the crisper one. We tried both the chicken wings and fried chicken, with two different sauces (Garlic and Smoky spice). We personally liked the smoky spice one better, but the garlic was good. We also got a side of house sauce, which was a little too sweet for our liking. We liked that they provided gloves to eat the chicken with, as eating saucy wings are usually messy.
The food came out hot with the spicy chicken having a nice flavor. But the batter wasn’t the best not really crispy as other comparable Korean chicken joints. The Peli fries are kind of a fake cheese powder so be aware they might not be for everyone. But the beer is cheap and the service is good.
Tasty chicken but they were completely out of the wings the day I went. My only choices were to get a half or full chicken... Or to get a chicken sandwich. I opted for the sandwich and it was good. A little pricey overall for the menu. Also waiting 30-40 minutes for our food which sort of killed our lunch time
Korean Fried chicken was absolutely amazing! However…the service needs to be improved at this restaurant. We had to get up and ask whenever we needed refills, napkins, etc. the machine couldn’t have been broken at the table since our order went through fine but no one was answering the call button. Other than service and parking the food was really good and would go again, just hope the call button works when we need it.
*** parking is really bad here only maybe 15 spots in front of the shop. Parking is around back, but it’s a paid lot not much street parking. Could possibly snag a spot in front of Hmart and walk over* Came here on a Friday around dinner time, and we were immediately able to sit down you can choose which table. They brought over water and copper iceberg salad with some sort of dressing . You order everything off of the screen menu there’s not a lot of detail on each item like flavor description so you’re better off reading some reviews to understand the flavors of each sauce that aren’t self-explanatory. For example the signature sauce is a sweeter little savory sauce. It was nice to eat after a bite of the hot spicy. Honestly, not a long wait after ordering to receive our food and it all looked delicious. We ordered two boneless wings of hot spicy and signature with an order of fries. It was hard to tell if the garlic fries had cheese on them so we passed. The hot spicy is very hot. It’s a slow burn and keeps getting more intense the longer you let it marinate in your mouth. We easily drink through the whole bottle of water they provided. My level tolerance is the medium level at Dave’s, hot chicken or main chick. This was above it and made it hard to enjoy the flavor since it was so hot. The signature sauce was nice to come back to you after a few bites of the hot. The chicken is well cooked good crispy chicken skin, and well saturated in sauce. Fries were good but a little bland, but also a good neutral item to use against the heat levels . There are free gloves on the table to use so you don’t have to get your hands dirty, which I appreciate in a little trashcan . The only issue I had here was our screen died so there’s no way to call over for the final bill . I went up to speak to someone, and they were so slammed. Neither of the waiters were looking at the small crowd of people standing. After about 15 minutes, someone finally asked if we were all here for pick up, which I then said no I was here for the final bill. That was the only issue I really had especially with one guy who kept looking at us, but went to prepare more complementary salads, wiped down tables and prepared the water bottles instead of just asking us if we needed help . I did try to grab his attention, but he was too fast.
I had seen this place on insta and had been wanting to try it. We order a half chicken with the signature sauce and it was very delicious! 10/10 The sauce was good and the chicken was tasty. We also had the onion rings, I liked them but there was nothing special 8/10. The cheese balls were good, but not my fav since they were sweet on the outside and I am personally not a fan of sweet. Unfortunately, many of their items were sold out, many of them the popular ones, and which I was hoping to try. Other than that it was a great meal, I would recommend and will be back ☺️
Parking: Parking isn’t much of an issue here as it only shares with another business establishment. Regular parking is closer than ADA parking. Atmosphere: Fast pace indoor dining and take out Service: For take out, you do order on your own on a giant screen so it’s little to no interactions with the servers in opposed to when I dined in before they were attentive and took orders at our table. Food Recommendations: the half chicken honey soy has been my go to the couple times I’ve been here. Absolutely one of the best Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) around convoy area. Supports Military: No Discount Overall: This has been my new go to place for fresh KFC. I would have rated them 5 stars but unfortunately my last experience where I did take out and they forgot my cheese balls were very unpleasant as I found out at home and made a trip back just to get it and there were no accommodations for the inconvenience offered at all so I thought it wasn’t right and asked them and was simply told “sorry there’s nothing we can do, just make sure to check your order next time” that left a really bad taste for this establishment but I’m balancing it out with my first experience which was amazing.
We had a coworker outing and chose this place due to its happy hour and location. There was plenty of parking in front at around 4 p.m. From the outside, the place looks small, but once you step inside, it's much bigger with ample seating. However, the coworkers who arrived first chose a corner where the table and seats were uncomfortable—at least for me. The table height was low, and we had small stools for seats. By the end of our happy hour, my lower back was aching. This area seemed to be the only one with that type of seating; every other seating looked normal. That’s where my complaints end. Everything else was amazing, and we all had a great time. We ordered a few pitchers of Sapporo beer and soju, which had great pricing for happy hour. Someone then ordered a variety of food: - 2 orders of the signature fried chicken - 9/10 - Cheese buldak - 8/10 - Corn cheese - 10/10 - Ddukbokki - 6/10 Most of the food was delicious, with the standout being the signature fried chicken. It was super crispy, saucy, and juicy. A few dishes, including the cheese buldak, were spicy, so I recommend paying close attention to the spice levels. The food was ordered via tablets on the table and arrived quickly. The servers responded promptly when called through the tablet. Service was top-notch. When we arrived, we were the first ones there, but an hour in, the place was packed, showing its popularity. I will definitely return with other friends to showcase how good the chicken is.
Service was good. Chicken was ok. Für $20 9 pieces I found it a bit pricey. Juiciness and crunchiness I l prefer other places like don chicken. The signature sauce is what I tried. It’s alright. Wouldn’t make my way out for it

This place was mid, I ordered the fried chicken. The sauce was laid waaay too thick, but at least the flavor was fine. It did feel weird having to put an order with a tablet that's placed at each table. I'm an introvert, and even that made me prefer an actual human...! It has a very open seating area, which I did appreciate.
Food was great, chicken was crunchy, a lil greasy and super spicy. Service was acceptable, but I don't know why this place smells so bad... You can smell the restroom odors while you're eating.... So sorry 😕
Service was polite yet sparse. Too dependant on order kiosk. Newbie, beware, this bird is HOT! IF IT SAYS SPICY, ITS SPICY!

What are people even doing here? Depressing McDonald's like dining room totally impersonal order from tablet and straight up packets of factory made sauces to go with the disgusting greasy chicken. Plus expensive. One time visit
When I order through delivery, they ALWAYS ALWAYS miss something. One time I ordered original, they bring sauced one. Last time only one leg came, even I ordered whole chicken. Today, I ordered sauce on side, they did not bring sauce. If you guys read this review, pay attention to the request!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Over all disgusting cleanliness. Upon arrival employees were at the front door smoking cigarettes. I actually told them not to smoke so close to the door. It was self seat so we found a spot. You order on a dirty tablet attached to the table, no one to ask questions or get any ideas about the menu. The food was good but the signature sauce tasted the same as hone chipotle from chilis. No spice and they do not let you choose a 1-5 spice scale on any items. Chicken quality was decent. Prices are not comparable to the experience, which there is no experience to have here. The bathrooms were violently dirty. The soap dispensary did not work, I had to remove the lid and dip my hand in the soap. Which just means no other customers or employees were washing their hands either. From the employees smoking, bathroom and tablet cleanliness, to the lack of experience. I won’t return for chicken I can get anywhere else for cheaper.
Giving 2 stars purely for the look of the food. Everything looks really good, but as far as flavor goes, it doesn't taste like anything. I wish I was being dramatic bit truly, the cabbage had more flavor than the chicken. Tables were sticky. Service was meh - we had to ask for radish and water refills.
