First time at this location but I've tried Hodad's in Ocean Beach and at the ballpark. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with a half priced Strawberry Malt because it was happy hour. The Bacon Cheeseburger was solid but just way way way too much onion and pickles. This is how it was at the ballpark and sad to see this is how it is in the restaurant. The milkshake was pretty good though and a great price at $4.50. Overall I would come back for the milkshakes but not the burgers.
Hodad’s Downtown is consistently great. The burgers, fries, onion rings, etc are always delicious. My order is taken quickly and my food arrives soon after. I’m a hearty eater and I struggle to finish eating my meal. The portions are generous. A word of warning, the double burgers are simply huge. Maybe as tall as a beer bottle. Great selection of beers as well. UPDATE: This is gonna sound crazy but if you enjoy Tuna Melts, you have to give the one here a try. Best Tuna Melt I've ever had! I also can recommend the chili.
Had an amazing time and dinner before heading into gaslamp to enjoy the night. Started the night with a great ambience and awesome team for me to enjoy my dinner. Hodads has the best burgers! Love the onion rings and fries. I git the double bacon cheese burger and it was fiiirrrreeeeee!
We saw that this place was listed as a recommended place by Food Network. Although it was hard to find parking and expensive to park in a parking lot, this place was definitely worth the trip. The ambience of the place was fun and the workers were casual. Our server was great. I ordered a single burger and my fiancé ordered a double with bacon both burgers or massive. We also ordered onion rings. It goes without saying it took us forever to make our way through our burgers, but we had so much fun doing it and trying the different beers on tab. The beef was fresh and everything was amazing if your burger lover I highly recommend this as a regular stop.
I arrived for a pretty late lunch since I was in the area for a conference and have been meaning to try out Hodads. I came around 3 PM on a Monday and there was no one else in the shop but me which meant I got super quick service. I opted for the single cheeseburger with onion rings and a Dr. Pepper. The burger was pretty good and the onion rings were amazing. It was definitely worth the 20 minute walk that it took to get there. I'd go back in the future just for the onion rings alone! The best part is that they give you 2 stickers at the end of your meal! I'm pretty sure you're supposed to stick the stickers on the walls of the establishment somewhere but I wanted to take mine.
The service was great! The food was fast and fresh off the grill. Added the onion rings as an extra, they were great as well. I had to take a bite and then forgot about the picture.

One of my favorite burger joints & a must have when I’m visiting Cali first stop. Was a little disappointed today my burger was cooked a little longer today so the burger was an over cooked & the restaurant .
WOW! The Guido is one of the best burger that I have ever had. If I go back to San Diego, I am stopping at Hodad's. The burger is so juicy, meaty, and flavorful. It is mouthwatering and nearly perfect. The combination of pickles, grilled onions, pastrami, and the patty just melt in your mouth. The ketchup and mustard add nicely to an already amazing burger.
If you’re in the mood for a burger, this is the place to go. The mini burgers come in at a sixth of a pound, while the singles are a third of a pound, and they definitely don’t skimp on toppings. Expect a burger stacked high and overflowing in the best way. The bacon is more like a thick patty than traditional strips, which was a pleasant surprise. The fries were soft and almost mashed-potato-like in texture, but the onion rings were the real standout. They were easily the star of the meal. Service was excellent as well. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and helpful with recommendations, which made the experience even better.
We visited this place on a whim. Didn't look into it before hand. Just basically googled burgers near us and we were like ten minutes away in car. Once we got there and did some more research (while looking at the menu) it appears this 'franchise' is very popular in the area. And honestly, the burgers we ordered were so good, it's no wonder its a local favorite. One of the best burgers I have ever had and would visit here many times if I lived in the city. I would recommend this place if you are hungry and looking for a good hardy burger to enjoy. Place was super busy but ordering/getting our food went pretty fast. Staff was super friendly and helpful with the menu and we are glad we visited. Parking is a bit tricky, there is some street parking but more then likely you will have to find a spot in a parking garage nearby. It's in downtown so super busy area. Will definitely find myself here again if I am ever back in SD!

Saw them on Triple D, and had to try. It definitely lived up to the hype. Burger was great, the atmosphere was fantastic (be on the lookout for the “run forest” license plate). We ate in the car, and had a great time. Staff was friendly and attentive. Burger was a GREAT size. Definitely coming back!

Such a cool place! Our Uber driver recommended, and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend. Unless you are a hormonal teenage boy, you do not need a double cheeseburger with bacon.
Stopped in while visiting the area to get a burger and I'm glad that I did. I ordered a single patty bacon cheese burger which was more than enough for me along with onion rings. Both items were delicious and the service was great. If you're looking for a good burger you can't go wrong with this spot.

Like many, I’m just in town for a work trip. I’m always looking to try new spots when I’m traveling. This one was great! My kind of music (hard rock, indie, hip hop) a great mix of tunes, great vibes, super nice staff. I am going to make it a point to go back (after a few more runs) this week before I leave! Also, the food and beer were delicious 🤤 (Guido burger and both IPAs on tap)
Definitely one of the best burger's in San Diego never disappoints burgers are big and delicious I personally think the French fries are the best I always get a strawberry shake and they are made with real ice cream hodads is definitely a must try service is always excellent super friendly staff this one is downtown so parking is kinda difficult
I’ve been eating at Hodad’s for years, whenever I visit San Diego. I still believe that this is the best burger you can get in SD. You can taste the freshness and tenderness in the beef and vegetables to a whole other level. The atmosphere can be polarizing but I’m a huge fan of the plastered stickers and license plates everywhere. The service every time has been wonderful, too. It’s a great spot. That being said… they are just getting way too expensive. $21 for a double burger with no sides or a drink, is a bit much. There is a service charge of 3%, but then you are also expected to leave a tip. I don’t get that part at all. I get that these days prices are high, but so is the competition, and for $20+ my burger should at least have a side order and a small soft drink. I don’t remember them being this expensive in the past. Overall, amazing food and great service/atmosphere, so they deserve the 5 stars, but the menu prices and additional service fees are far too high. As much as I love the food, I probably won’t be returning until these prices are figured out.
My favorite Burger place All Time. We've been away for 3 years now. I had to come here and have a Burger during our San Diego vacation. I had the Blue Jay Burger; bacon cheeseburger with Blue cheese sauce and grilled onions. So Tasty. My wife had the Chicken Burger Fried with Crispy Bacon. It was very delicious. I always recommend this restaurant. The staff is Awesome and super Cool. The place has a Down to Earth San Diego Vibe.
This place checks off the big 3. Great food, friendly servers, with a really cool atmosphere from the music, to the movie choices on the tv in the corner and the stickers over just about every inch of the place. Bring a huge appetite because the portions are monstrous and the flavors are so good you will try to eat it all! The onion rings and shakes are a must. The burgers have tons of fresh toppings. You will not go home disappointed no matter what your order here.

Great place for a big bite! I ordered a cheese burger with cheddar and all the toppings and it was great. Fries were great and potato-y. I tried the onion rings and wasn’t a huge fan so if you are trying to decide, go with the fries (they are also less expensive). The decor is very fun and music is fitting for the atmosphere. They have a sign saying they don’t split bills for more than 4 guests and there is a 3% added service fee.
Really cool place, nice atmosphere. The staff is really friendly and efficient. But the food is what does it! It really hits the spot, so much flavor and the fries are unbeatable! I ordered the mini cheeseburger and a side of fries and I was happy with the portion. They even make lettuce wraps for the gluten-free people. Definitely will be coming back.
