Tip: Arrive early, especially if you want to try the oxtail, as it tends to sell out. Also, if they have homemade ginger beer, be sure to get some!

I took my best friend to go try Jamaican food for our first time. A co-worker recommended this resteraunt. I had the jerk chicken, it was very good. Taisty awsome. The service was quick. It was a pieceful atmosphere.

Ordered on grub hub everything was so good !! Jerk chicken and curry chicken had good flavor will definitely be back
Really good Jamaican food!! The curry chicken was delicious and the jerk chicken smokey, tangy, and had a little spice, they have lots of fun drinks and an authentic menu! Definitely worth trying, over and over!! Takeout is standard but they have a Jamaican decorated dining room with 6 or 7 tables
Better be brute and early or you’ll miss the best oxtail in SD. A great mom and pop shop that never fails on an adventure of flavor. But if you arrive to late night not be any left.
I smelled delicious food cooking as we walked up people getting their orders to go people seated waiting on food for dine in every table was full the young cashier guy was very sweet and welcoming ordered food was brought out to us it was delicious hot, fresh wonderful I will be coming back I purchased a large jersey meal great portion size I ate in but I left with a meal from my left overs because portion was very generous excellent food customer service
I am visiting from Maryland and wanted some good carribean food. When I tell you I picked a winner with Island Spice Jamaican Restaurants!. Beef Pattie was amazing and you can tell it's made fresh. The curry chicken rice and peas. Perfectly made and seasoned. I want to thank you for making such an amazing meal!
The food is delicious and they give so much!! I always order the Jerk chicken and oxtail. These two dishes are very good. Before San Diego, I always enjoyed Jamaican food in Virginia!! Then tried to find one good restaurant out here and it was just dry. This place is so bomb!! Their cakes are really moist as well. Friendly service too!! I am always coming back!! P.S. the photos does no justice...
I had the oxtails with peas and rice, and veggies. The portions were huge! Everything was fresh and delicious. The oxtails were moist and falling off the bone. They were meaty and substantial in size, unlike other places where they give you the smallest pieces. The service is lacking, but it makes me feel like home. 🤣 This is my favorite spot for authentic Jamaican food.
The food is EXCELLENT im from the east coast NY and this is a taste of home that's so far away. The people there are so sweet and the food it amazingly priced and so tasty. If you haven't tried it you really need to. My favorites are ox tail and stew chicken, I'm not a hot and or spicy person but if you are the jerk chicken is amazing too. 😋
What an amazing hidden hole in the wall delicious authentic food! I visited Jamaica before and this place didn’t fail me. Great amount of authentic spice, very tasty meat, rice with beans, plantain hmmm hmmm, side vegetables were divine and fabulous happy people greeting, great customer service. Outdoor seatings were great to enjoy the lovely weather. I will definitely come back again !
Overall rating: 8.5/10 Ordered the oxtail small plate which was more than plentiful for one person. This is my first time trying Jamaican food so maybe I’m not the best critic. The meat itself was well seasoned and cooked very tender. My only reservation is that I found the taste to be a little too sweet. Knowing that scotch bonnet peppers are typically used in the traditional recipe, I expected it to be a little spicy, but it wasn’t in the slightest.
Island Spice shares the same parking lot as Alanberto at the corner of College Ave and University Ave, across the street from Taco Bell. You can’t miss the Jamaican colors. We ordered a large plate of curry chicken ($17), large plate of oxtail ($22), and small side of jerk chicken ($12). We ordered for take out and the second she handed over the boxes, I was shocked at how heavy 3 boxes were. When we got home, I was in awe at the portions! So much food! The entrees came with the protein choice, side of veggies and red bean rice. Everything was delicious and we had left overs. The chicken curry and oxtail were so tender it fell right off the bones. I used a plastic fork to eat and the meat had no problem. Great price, portion, taste and service.
Very good food and phenomenal service. The portions alone is enough to make sure you come back !!! The wife and I were extremely happy with the Jerk Chicken and Ox Tail combination plate (rice and peas, plantains and veggies). Rice and peas were spot on, veggies crisp, plantains sweet, jerk Chicken was ok (needed a bit more flavor), Ox Tails were the highlight of the meal.....talk about flavor man this took us back to Kingston !!! The chicken patty was a tad bit dry (it was in the warmer to long). The assortment of island beverages was great. The gentleman working the register was very patient and helpful.
The food was tasty and the location is convenient if you are using the bus. The reason I gave only 4 stars is because the staff was not very friendly in fact they seemed annoyed at my son who was waken up from a nap and full of dysfunctional energy. They did give my friends older son a really nice coloring book which makes me want to reconsider adding that extra star but service is a huge deal. They just seemed annoyed by my indecisiveness when ordering (I'm vegetarian and always take forever to order). I would have understood if they were very busy but they weren't. Anyway, the food was decent. Not my favorite place for Jamaican food in San Diego though.
Can you say heartbroken? Still shocked that an establishment would even serve this to a customer considering how burnt the beef patty was. As for the other food, we had the jerk chicken and brown stew chicken which was pretty flavorful and I would actually eat again. The curry chicken and chicken patty was just okay (tasted pretty bland). Customer service with one of the ladies was great! However, another lady interjected for what reason idk and she was pretty blunt and unfriendly with her words and composure. Would also add and agree that the portion size is amazing!! And if you want to save a few dollars be sure to order directly from the restaurant and not on their website.
I placed in order over the phone to go for a small jerk, chicken combo meal with one chicken, patty and one beef patty under my daughter's name. When my daughter returned home with the order. I received an Oxtail combination meal.
Alot of food however the food was not delicious. I ordered the oxtails the meat fell off the bone but it had no jamaican flavor or any taste to it, just bland. I also ordered the goat it also lacked flavor and authenticity of the jamaican cultural food. The rice and peas was honestly the worst i have ever had no coconut or flavor to it. The plantains tasted like they cooked it in the same oil as their meat. The jerk chicken was only thing in my opinion was good. Customer service was okay. I would not buy from here again based on personal preference.
I use to got to island spices all the time from age 10 to 24. I moved back 10 years later, and when I went to order my food the woman cashier and man that was sitting down. Was looking silly because I was asking about the drive thru they had 8 years ago. The lady took my order didn't wait for me to pay . She just walked to the back without saying anyhing. I waited 10 minutes for her to come back. Iasked the guy where did she go an he just started laughing. So I left and will not be going back.
