Hands down the el pastor was one of the best burritos I’ve ever had in my life. The ratio of meat, cheese, onion, etc was incredible. The burrito was wrapped and warmed perfectly. I like getting the guac on the side. It’s juice but not too juice so it runs down your hand/arm. Next time im in this part of town im stopping by again.
I knew it would be good because it was hard to find. But once we found it and got out the car… the smell of tacos and meat filled the air. I ordered the King Kong and hubby had the Oaxocalifornia. Both were great. But the fish tacos!!!!! Those were the hit!!! Rice and beans flavorful. And the salsas are great.
UPDATE #2: (5/8) Ordered the chicken enchilada and asada taco. Again, very fresh, tasty and filling. UPDATE: (3/30) Went back for a asada taco and beef tostada. Again, good portion size and great flavor. This pace has been very consistent. First time here. Menu had good selection and prices are reasonable for the area and competitive with other Mexican restaurants. Ordered the carnitas torta and a carne asada taco. Both fresh and impressed with the torta as the bread was toasted perfectly and insides flavorful. The crunchy potatoes also good. The high review rating not surprising at this point.
Food is a necessity for all people on this earth—especially for those of us who start our day well before the break of dawn. After a long morning of building inspections, I found myself inspecting something far more urgent: my Google Maps, in search of a tasty burrito from a spot that’s been lingering on my “Want to Go” list for far too long. I was in the area and decided it was time to show face and make my presence known. To my delight, they opened at 8, just in time for my “lunch” break. Nothing screams San Diego like a California burrito first thing in the morning. I quickly called to place my order, refusing to waste a single precious second. By the time I pulled up, I was practically fiending for that cali log. I’d been scrolling images and reading reviews like a man possessed. The counter worker was attentive and fast, and I could tell my food was fresh—just waiting for my chompers to sink into it. You can’t find many quality places that lists a burrito for 11 bones… but I didn’t let that deter my expectations. I unwrap my baby and take the first bite. Unbelievable. The red and green sauces harmonized beautifully with the juicy carne asada and crispy fries. The pico and guac added a cool kick that sent twitches below the belt. I’m usually critical in my reviews, but when a place earns five stars, it earns it. Well done. I WILL be back.
This place is worth all the hype. Fresh and amazing and the carne asada is amazing. The best California burrito I’ve ever had IMO. The only thing is probably want to order ahead because this place is always packed and it’s a decent wait time. But! Well worth it!!!
This is some of the best Mexican food places around I got the oaxacacalifornia burrito and that was probably the best burrito I've ever had the carne asada was so flavorful and juicy truly delicious I also got the rolled tacos and they were great definitely a must try Mexican food place service was excellent parking was difficult
The food was perfect 👌. The Carne Asada nachos are on another level. This is a small hole in the wall type spot but has a lot of charm. Be prepared to wait a little while for your order but definitely worth it. This place is busy for a reason, the community knows La Perla's food is the bomb. The only annoyance I had was that it gets really warm inside where you sit down to eat. But I wld definitely go back again and again, whenever I'm in Cali.
100 stars tacos. Price ranges from $3.50-$4.50 per taco but they’re big and loaded with fillings. Well balanced ratio between proteins, onion cilantro and some have rice or avocado dependent on what you order. Our favorites are carnitas, fried fish, and beef. The green sauce is spicier than the red. Pro tips: get the stuffed churros you won’t regret it.
We ordered a breakfast burrito , 4 fish tacos , a bean tostada, a carnitas taco , and a carne asada taco. The fish tacos were really great with a lot of flavor. Carnitas was a little dry but ok. Over all the food was great and I would recommend. The green salsa is spicy and delicious.
Good food, good prices but small dining area. I've only tried the California burrito and very good flavor and size. I want to try more different items soon. Food is cooked to order, so the wait time can be long. Gets very crowded at certain times.
This place is an absolute gem and everyone should pay a visit at least once when visiting San Diego. Family-owned, authentic Mexican restaurant that serves amazing food. I went there with my celiac girlfriend and they were able to accomodate her with some incredible options. Absolutely reccommended for people with gluten allergy too. Carne Asada Burrito: nothing to say, try it. It was spectacular. Nachos & Guacamole (gluten free): amazing taste, guacamole was great. Al Pastor Taco (gluten free): try it, it's amazing. Enchilladas with queso (gluten free): 10 out of 10.
We got the Oaxaca California burrito. Which is a very generous portion of meat inside. Very flavorful. Absolutely bang for your buck. It’s definitely worth it. I ate 1/3 and had the rest for the next day. Don’t forget to tip!!
Saturday afternoon: crowded but worth it! Parking lot is small, but neighborhood parking is available. 45 minute wait but indoor seating was nice. Ordered the Oaxacalifornia and California burrito and they hit the spot. Great flavor and didn’t fall apart while eating! Loved by many, for good reason.
Everything was great, large portions, and good value. I do think that the regular California burrito is better than the OaxacaCalifornia burrito. The double tortilla and cheese takes away from what’s inside. We had a 30 minute wait at 7pm on a Friday night.
Tried the Oaxaclifornia burrito... it didn't disappoint. It was THHHICK and full of meat. The asada was actually seasoned perfectly. I am now stuffed and satisfied! Finally! I see a place on IG that isn't hype but actually delicious. Got 2 more california burrito spots to try out here in SD. They have big shoes to fill!
People say this is one of the best California Burritos in San Diego and I would have to say, I agree with everyone who made that statement. I ordered a Oaxaca California Burrito at 10 am. To be honest it took quite a bit of time, about 15-20 minutes but I have learned this burrito is made with love. First the tortilla is extremely fresh. Next the Oaxaca Cheese was plentiful and melted perfectly. The meat was seasoned well while the fries had a nice crisp to it. I've had my fair share of California Burritos in San Diego and this is by far the best.
Dude, you know its good when... 1) they ran out of carne before 11am 2) i called my order in 40 min early and still waited 3) people in line had eaten there last night 4) its in an alley with no parking and had 40 people inside waiting, 10 cars trying to pull up outside 5) my burrito is bigger than i was when born 6) oh yeah it freaking the best I've had. And I grew up with the Farfan family and eaten #lolitas since 2001 and this blows everything away!
Best Burrito I have had Ever, not just in San Diego. Hard to Find Parking but that doesn’t ruin the food, place is pretty packed and it’s difficult to get a seat. Good Prices, Great Service.
Best California burrito in SD! Both this location and #2 are great, but I prefer this one. The Oaxacalifornia burrito is a must try and is gigantic (it is a California burrito with a quesadilla wrapped around it).
🌯 La Perla #3 – San Diego 🌯 I went all in with the King Kong Burrito 🦍 … and leveled it up by adding shrimp 🦐. Let me tell you — this thing is a beast. A tortilla that’s soft yet perfectly grilled, packed with steak, potatoes, shrimp, and all the right flavors that make San Diego burritos legendary. This isn’t just a meal… it’s an experience. Every bite hits with that fire combo of flavor, texture, and size. Definitely one of the best burritos I’ve had in the city. 💯
I ate at this restaurant thanks to a youtube video claiming it had the best burritos in San Diego. I don't know about that claim but they were sure delicious. A literal hole in the wall restaurant situated in Point Loma. It was very busy, there are no restrooms, and I had to park down the street. Other than that the food was great.
The burritos here are some of the best(top 3 in my opinion) in all of San Diego! On this trip I ordered the Oaxacalifornia Burrito. The tortilla is the star of this burrito, it is perfect. It contains great seasoned and tender carne asada, cheese, fries, and guacamole. The burrito is covering a quesadilla as well. Every bite is packed with flavor. The restaurant is clean, organized and the menu is clear. I can't wait to try the breakfast burrito sometime. Please try this spot for an AWESOME burrito!! Eat up!!!
Oaxaca California burrito was definitely worth the 35 min wait. Probably one of the best burritos we’ve ever had 😋 Delicious tortillas and great meat quality! Red and green salsa are both good, but ask for extra since they’re kinda tiny and the burrito is massive! Appreciated the wait time estimate listed before you order (only off by 5 mins). No public restrooms fyi. Definitely worth the hype!
The best cali burrito, the portions are huge so definitely share & they give you a good amount of meat.
La Perla 3 was absolutely worth the 35-minute wait and the $11 price tag. I came here for the California burrito and it might just be my new favorite in San Diego. Perfectly grilled tortilla, well-seasoned carne asada, crispy fries inside, and the right balance of guac without being messy. Flavor-packed, super filling, and honestly one of the best I’ve had in the city. If you’re a burrito lover, this spot should be on your list.
We stopped in for lunch and left so full and happy. Some of our party remarks were “the best burrito I’ve ever had” (the Oaxacalifornia), and “these tacos are unbelievable!” I don’t think anyone was disappointed by their meal, but the real star of the show was the churros. If you go, those are a must.
There was a small parking lot outside the restaurant, the staff was so friendly and did give us a military discount. The menu was huge and had so many options to choose from, the Horchata and Jamaica we got were not on the menu, you just have to ask the staff. The staff gave good recommendations and we absolutely loved everything we got! You can tell that everything was freshly made and we didn’t wait too long for our food. The meat was tender and flavored, nothing was overcooked, and every bit was just perfect! We forgot to take a picture of the stuffed churros but it was really good! We will definitely be coming back!

First time to La Perla #3! We ordered the signature Oaxacan burrito. It’s huge, we split it between two people. It’s a solid burrito. The meat is excellent. Fries were crispy. The quesadilla that wraps the burrito wasn’t too overpowering. BUT- it was rather dry due to not enough pico and guac. You can see in my picture it’s lacking moistness. Next time I might have to ask for extra guacamole. Their salsas are just OK, I prefer the green over the red. We waited a total of about 30 minutes (it’s probably best to call in your order). We got lucky with parking. However I can see it being an issue during peak lunch time. It’s an extremely small restaurant. We were planning on eating there, but it was just too congested inside so we went to Liberty Station. Overall, the Oaxacan burrito definitely has potential, they just need to add more guacamole and pico de gallo.
This seems to be a local favorite as it is nestled back behind some streetside shops along the boulevard on Point Loma's Rosecrans St. There is limited parking adjacent to this small and seemingly family owned little restaurant. The menu is good with plenty of selection, and I noted many patrons ordering a wide variety of favorites from the menu. I tried the fish tacos o and the California Burrito. Both were tasty and full of flavor. The burrito had guacamole, Pico, Carne asada, cheese, and fries (a unique ingredient). The meat was a little salty, but overall, it was good. They recommended the green salsa which was a delicious flavor with just enough spice. The inside seating accomodations are equally as limited as the parking, but this is not a deterrent. Youll likely have a place to rest and eat. Ehile there, I noted that most ordered takeout. I chose to sit and enjoy the experience. It felt very much like the family-run taco shops in SoCal I remember from my youth. Good food, at a good price, and quite filling. Service was friendly and with a warm smile. It is worth another visit to try another menu item such as the surf and turf burrito, quesadilla, or tortas.
I didn't try their signature Oaxaca burrito. They're shrimp burrito was fine. Seating during lunch hour is a hot commodity. Great jamaica
Food: Ordered the Oaxacalifornia burrito. The burrito was okay. Lots of hype with this place but I believe there are better places for a burrito. We waited 55 mins for a take out order for two burritos. Parking: a bit difficult as they only have a small lot, I recommend parking on the street Wait: at least 30+ mins wait for food
Great tasting Cali Burrito. The meat is very well seasoned. I added sour cream and held back on the pico. It was a great tasting burrito, not quite the best, but very good. They are tightly wrapped, but they are not as large as others that also taste great. For $14.49 it could be bigger. The staff was very friendly.
Tried the Oaxaca Cali Burrito. It was good but kindve dry inside The cheese wrapped tortilla was a lil over powering. Felt it needed more guacamole inside. The salsa is your typical generic green/red salsa.

30 minutes wait for a machaca burrito which was mediocre and cost 11 dollars. No public bathrooms and high chairs for seating. It's a taqueria so ambiance is what you expect. If you're in Point Loma and want Mexican, this is an option but don't drive here thinking it's gonna blow you away.
fourth time ordering from here and leaving disappointed. the california burrito is good, but i just had their shrimp burrito and was severely underwhelmed. only seven shrimp in the whole burrito. plus a ton of chunky cabbage that i didn't want - i asked for the ingredient list and that's the one they forgot to mention. i also asked to replace the sour cream with pico (already in the burrito) and was told they can do that, but they still charged $1.29 AND forgot to add more pico. it was super greasy, too. i likely won't return...
I went on a Saturday afternoon and the wait time for 2 Oaxacali burritos was 50 minutes. I waited because I wanted to try La Perla due to the reviews I've seen. The burrito wasn't really all that in my opinion. It was too much tortilla, the fries weren't good and the Pico had huge pieces of onion and tasted like it was days old. Also the layering was terrible, the guac was more towards the bottom of the burrito. For all the hype that this place is given, I was really disappointed. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again.
My friend and I ordered the Oaxacacalifornia burrito. We waited around 20-25 minutes. We were pretty confused with all the amazing ratings on this burrito. I love burritos and have them all the time when I go out and we didn’t really like it at all. The entire thing was very under salted. The meat was seasoned okay, the fries were not salty at all and bland, but crispy. The double wrapped tortilla with the cheese was really heavy, but fresh. Had to tear some off. The guac was good, the pico was okay. The meat and guac was stuffed in one corner and the fries with the pico was in the other. It would’ve been nicer if it was all mixed together. The red sauce on the side wasn’t anything special. We rate the burrito a 5/10 which is unfortunate because it was $32 with tax for both, we probably won’t get it again.
Usually very good but apparently inconsistent. The last six times I’ve been get 5/5 stars. Most recently gets 2/5 stars for extremely chewy meat and what tastes like old avocado. Hope they stop serving this because they have an excellent reputation.
Good luck trying to order for pickup via phone; waited 5 minutes without them talking me off hold. It may only be worth coming here if you have 30 minutes to wait in line and wait for your food to be cooked. Otherwise, there are plenty of other quicker burrito options nearby. Also, there's maybe only 5-7 parking spots that are shared with the two nearby cleaners establishments; expect to park on the street or wait for a spot to open.
After watching videos on this place I really wanted to check this spot out.. The people were friendly, the place is small and the wait was a little too long to get disappointed after all that. I'm sorry but I no longer trust those foody videos over-pumping restaurants that need serious reconsideration of what they say, "tastes good". Because the people were nice here, I'll just have to say no, needs lots of work in the flavor department.
