Negi Miso Ramen was garlicky and very tasty. Really enjoyed it. The eggs were perfectly done, very soft, gooey yolk. Nagoya fried chicken was good, but not everyone will like it. It’s a bit sweet and heavy. If you’re ok with that, you’ll probably love this fried chicken. I liked it.
I would be a good person if this bowl of ramen told me to. I got Tonkotsu with extra green onion and extra mushrooms. When they ask if you want extra they mean EXTRA. It was so much mushroom and green onion I was starting to regret it. Noodles? Amazing, in hindsight I would’ve ordered more noodles. The broth was so rich and oily I started foaming at the mouth. Everyone was so kind and this was just a vibe. I sat down ordered and just started eating. Didn’t have time to look at the time and realize it was closing time. The staff did tell me it was okay to stay and enjoy my food but I decided to get it to go. They even took a couple who got there 4 minutes before closing. I would’ve been mad but they were so kind and patient. Anyways, I pay, I get my bowl and just stand outside like a weirdo eating soup. The cold night air and the warm soup was another vibe I didn’t know I needed. Overall this place is really good and if you wanna have a chat it’s nice too because people like me who go to places alone feel less alone listening to chatter of people, and there was no lack of talking and laughing. I like this place a lot.
3rd attempt coming because I would come when they were closed. But definitely glad I finally made it! As soon as they open you gotta sign in because it fills up quick! I ended up getting the chashu Tonkotsu with corn and spicy paste! Super bomb With a side of white rice and 3 gyoza’s all perfect and really good!
This is unequivocally the finest ramen we have experienced, surpassing even the established benchmarks of Los Angeles and New York City. Its popularity is reflected in the significant demand; despite arriving at the 5:00 PM opening, we faced a 60-minute wait for a party of two. To bypass this, leverage the online waitlist, which opens 30 minutes prior to dinner service—a strategy utilized by many regular patrons.
This place is some of the best ramen I've had outside of Japan. It's very popular so expect a bit of wait. The Nagoya fried chicken is definitely a great appetizer to get and different from typical kaarage. I got the tantan ramen with a pork cutlet and extra sliced chashu which were all delicious. I really wanted to try their braised chashu slices but they only have limited servings each day. Get there early if you want to try it!
Holy mother of Jesus this was the best ramen I’ve had in my life. I’ve tried many spots and this place took the number 1 spot. I was super hesitant and nervous cause the menu was different than a lot of other ramen spots I’ve had but it did not disappoint. I can’t wait to come back, I literally could not put my chopsticks down. It’s small inside tho so be prepared to be a little cramped. I will say I will probably have to try another location, the smell of cigar was way too strong and ruining the experience, especially being pregnant and for my children.
Menya Ultra Ramen 🍜💕 Omg sooo yummy 🤤✨ This ramen hit all the right spots — the broth is rich and flavorful, the noodles are perfect, and everything just tastes super fresh! I was seriously in noodle heaven 🥹💖 The service? 10/10 — super sweet and attentive! 💕 But make sure you make a reservation or you’ll be waiting for a bit… it gets busy! Also, they close from 2–5 PM so plan your visit right 🕑💅 Definitely one of my fave ramen spots now — can’t wait to go back! 🥰🍥🌸
Talk about a ramen experience! The place was absolutely packed before noon, and the service was on top of getting people in and out. They have to charge extra for the eggs right now which is a bummer but WORTH IT. I love spice, and the regular level hot had me sweating a bit. Be careful going for the extra hot!
Ultra Menya is my favorite ramen spot in San Diego! I always order the vegan miso ramen, and it’s absolutely amazing. The broth is flavorful and satisfying, and the noodles are handmade, which makes such a difference in taste and texture. For anyone watching their sodium intake, you can request a low-sodium version, which I really appreciate. It’s great to have that option without losing the flavor. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, the staff are friendly, and the service is quick. Whether you’re vegan or not, this restaurant is a must try!
I love ramen and this place boasts a Michelin Star so there was no way I couldn't pass it up! Got there close to opening but there was still a wait so I knew it had to be good! It's a small hole in the wall restaurant with limited seating, really reminds me of Japan's ramen spots! The staff were friendly and efficient! I ordered the tantanmen with paiko and added an egg, seaweed, and chashu to go with my bowl! It was a truly stacked bowl of ramen! The broth was so creamy and had a good amount of vinegar and chili oil to cut thru the richness! The noodles were high quality and the egg was perfectly soft boiled. The paiko remained crispy and the chashu was very tender. My friends ordered different ramen and both said that they loved how creamy the broth was. I also ordered the Nagoya style fried chicken! It was so moist and so full of flavor! Very impressive chicken, it's a must have when coming here! The gyoza was good though nothing I hadn't had before. Lastly, the tempura ice cream. It was such an excellent end to a delicious meal! Both warm and cold, crispy and creamy! A true delight! I can see how they earned their Michelin Star and I can't recommend this spot enough!

Best Ramen in San Diego !? Love the food quality, haven’t tried a better place yet in the San Diego area. Flavor of the broth is amazing and the noodles are very well prepared. Service is alright. I do not like their system to get a table. It’s a waitlist system so you have to sign up not to long after they open. On a weekend night, I waited 1.5hrs for a table after putting my name on the waitlist; There were 50 people in front. However the servers are nice. Atmosphere gives a ramen shop vibe, but the restaurant is a bit small. Recommendation - Any ramen, Nagoya Style Fried Chicken is a must try!
We went here because it was on the Michelin guide. We ordered: Nagoya style fried chicken, Tonkotsu, and TanTan. Our server Rafael told us their special going on, the difference between the normal chicken and the Nagoya, and what he would recommend as ramen; tonkotsu as a good base as if you like this, you’ll like a lot of their ramen and the Tantan as his personal favorite. He even got me an apron because he noticed I was wearing white and he wanted to save my shirt! Honestly, he made this meal and experience for us. The food was ok. The chicken, depending on where you bite, was too strong with its flavor and wasn’t balanced throughout. The ramen was decent but it’s nothing out of this world; to be fair, the only reason my expectations were so high was because it was a Michelin guide recommendation. Overall, not bad, I would come back. If Rafael is there, you’ll get excellent service!
We ordered: #8 Tantan, #6 miso chashu, Nagoya style fried chicken, edemame, and fried gyoza. Delicious ramen, unique taste. Not sure if it’s the best in San Diego, but we enjoyed our food. We were the first to arrive. It took a minute for the waiter to take our orders. Anika was very sweet. Water is good. No gluten free options, but they will add more sprouts to any ramen dish. If you don’t ask for spicy oil and dry spicy pepper powder, it will not be offered.

The welcome staff were very kind and supportive, she tried to help arrange our seats near the end of the day, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite meet our expectations. The karaage was salty and oily, the ramen lacked flavor, and the fried pork was dry. Overall, my husband felt the experience was just so-so.
Dropped in at Menya Ultra on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard around lunch time on a weekday. This is a Michelin recognized Japanese traditional ramen shop serving the Haruyokoi wheat ramen noodle that’s freshly made daily. There was no wait list and I was able to grab a table. This is a quaint, small ramen noodles restaurant. There’s a menu detailing the ramen, appetizers and drinks offered. Also, there’s a checklist order form on the table for customers to fill out for their selections. I decided on the Tonkotsu ramen with cha siu and ramen eggs. The ramen noodles have a perfect texture/chew and the broth was rich and savory. The waitstaff was attentive and kept things moving in an organized manner. The ramen came out very quickly and was piping hot. Menya Ultra remains as my favorite Japanese ramen noodles restaurant in San Diego.
First time visiting. I strongly recommend making a reservation in advance. I arrived on a Sunday night around 7 PM without one and waited nearly 45 minutes to be seated. Upon entering, the servers loudly shout “Welcome in!” which was initially refreshing, but after hearing it repeatedly, it became overwhelming and uncomfortable on the ears. My table was located very close to the bathroom and kitchen, with constant noise from air vents and kitchen activity. The overall noise level was excessive and distracting. The food itself was very good, but it was not worth the long wait or the poor seating location. This restaurant is Michelin-rated, yet it did not meet Michelin-level expectations. A Michelin-rated restaurant should offer a refined atmosphere, controlled noise, and an overall enjoyable dining experience—none of which were present here. I would rate the food 4 stars, but the restaurant experience as a whole earns only 2 stars. I am giving this restaurant three stars because my host is was helpful and helping me decide what to get, which was nice to have as a first time guest.
I believe it's not worth the hype. The restaurant is packed and you have the feeling you should eat as fast as you can. Not a chill experience, feels more like a fast food. The menu is confusing, you gotta look up in details for the difference between the items. I've had better miso ramen before, this one still not bad, though. The fried chicken is really good and the gyoza is ok.
The ramen here is excellent, with an authentic Japanese taste. However, it is next door to a cigar shop, so the smell of cigar smoke permeates the restaurant. The ramen is served very hot, as it should be. They use a paper ordering system, and you check your own boxes on the paper for the order you wish to make. Menya ramen has a very distinct seafood/fish flavor - so if you’re a seafood enthusiast, you will love the taste. If you are a beef and potatoes guy like me, you will prefer other ramen places. Overall a good restaurant, but something must not have agreed with us as we both got stomach aches a few hours after eating here.

1 hour wait, foods ok nothing special. Didn't enjoy it much. Service is good. Their whole jingo is just "no msg" kinda interesting 🤔 could be anything IDK just "no msg". But that's really the only way to describe the food. Foods way too salty Fried chicken here makes KFC bucket chicken look like a low sodium alternative. Probably the soy sauce, pass on it. Ramens ok nothing special, weird aftertaste. People like restaurants that make them wait in lines I guess 🤷♀️
I am honestly shocked at how we were just treated at this place. My friend and I drove a 2-hour round trip just to eat here, after waiting nearly 40 minutes for our table, we stepped inside because it was freezing and pouring rain outside. We were dressed lightly and just needed a few minutes of cover. We weren't in anyone's way and weren't bothering a single guest. The woman at the front desk was incredibly hostile from the second she saw us. No 'hello,' no explanation--just a straight-up aggressive attitude telling us to get out. When I tried to explain that it was freezing and raining, she literally told us to 'go wait next door.' I asked to speak with a manager, and she completely lost it, told me she was 'refusing us service,' and basically kicked us out back into the rain. There is a major difference between following policy and just being a power-tripping, nasty person. To be treated with such disrespect and zero empathy after traveling so far is unacceptable. It's a restaurant, not a high-security facility--have some basic humanity. We felt completely belittled and unwelcome. If you enjoy being treated like trash while trying to spend your money, this is the place for you. We will never be back. Trash service.
Truly disappointing. This used to be our go-to spot. Today was hands down the worst experience I've ever had at this restaurant. We came in as a party of 4, and were told by our server Rafael that we couldn't be seated until our entire party arrived. We were literally standing at the table. My wife was walking through the door as we spoke, just finishing up getting our newborn ready in the car. No common sense, no flexibility, just policy enforcement while we stood there holding an infant while the restaurant was completely empty as we were one of the first to enter. The food quality has also taken a serious nosedive since COVID. I don't know if they changed the ingredients or chef, but the noodles came out soggy and the broth was overwhelmingly salty, even with the low sodium option. It used to be our favorite tonkotsu ramen in the area. Now it's barely passable. Service was equally frustrating. We never got a water refill the entire meal and had to flag down servers multiple times just to get basic requests handled. To top it off, prices have gone up significantly while quality has gone down, you're paying more for a worse experience. I wanted to love this place like I used to, but between the unwelcoming treatment, the decline in food quality, the inattentive service, and the price hikes, I can't recommend it anymore. Really sad to see.
