Nobu San Diego offers a sleek, modern atmosphere with attentive service. Standout dishes include the black cod miso, yellowtail jalapeño, and wagyu tacos. Some find it expensive for the portion sizes and occasional service inconsistencies.

Friendly people quick and easy online order as well
Manager Karla it’s super nice and pretty she always has the store really clean veggies are always fresh , the bread it’s super delicious and soft 💯🙌🏽
dropped my sandwich and they were friendly and made me a new one! good crew and vibes! thank you guys 🙏
Stopped by Subway today for a quick bite, and not only was the food on point, but the service really stood out—thanks to Robert behind the counter. From the moment I walked in, Robert greeted me with a smile and a genuinely positive attitude. He didn’t just go through the motions—he asked how my day was going, gave great suggestions for my sandwich (pro tip from Robert: toasted Italian Herbs & Cheese with chipotle sauce is chef’s kiss), and made sure everything was exactly how I wanted it. He was fast, friendly, and handled the lunchtime rush like a pro—never once losing that upbeat energy. The sandwich was fresh, stacked just right, and actually looked like the photos (rare these days!). Honestly, it's service like this that makes you want to come back. If you're stopping by this Subway, hope you catch Robert on shift—he makes the experience better than you'd expect from a fast food spot.
The atmosphere at Nobu was very welcoming, trendy, and set off by great music. It had an upbeat but still relaxed energy that made the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. The space felt stylish without being stiff, which made it a great spot for a date night. They had plenty of options I could make vegan, and the staff was happy to swap tofu in place of fish. The chili charred veggie and the yellowtail dish with tofu were both excellent and full of flavor. The drink selection was strong and well curated too. Between the food, music, atmosphere, and service, this is definitely a place I would come back to.
Exceptional experience and service that went the extra mile! The servers and manager, Brian, went above and beyond to accommodate our large party and provide a top notch meal. We enjoyed everything from the signature Wagyu cooked atop the hot stone to caviar topped tuna tartar. Food quality was incredible as well as the pairings with champagne, nagori sake, and wine. Cannot say enough positive things about this dinner. We will most certainly return!
We had a great time at this location! We’ve been to several different Nobu spots, and I always love seeing how the menu changes from place to place. Their signature cocktail here is a watermelon and herb mix super fresh and really tasty. The best part of our meal? The wagyu tacos. Pricey, yes… but absolutely worth the splurge. So flavorful and delicious! Service was great, but there aren’t really any views at this location, so Malibu is still our favorite overall.
Had an amazing night at Nobu. The atmosphere is sleek, modern, and has a cool upscale vibe. From start to finish, the staff was on point—attentive and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations. We ordered several dishes, and each one hit the mark. The black cod miso was a standout—perfectly cooked, flavorful, and worth every penny. Sashimi was fresh, melt-in-your-mouth good, and the sushi rolls were some of the best I’ve had. Even the cocktails were impressive. Overall, Nobu totally lived up to its reputation, delivering an awesome experience. Definitely recommend for dinner with friends or a date night—I'll be back for sure.
Such an iconic restaurant and even mentioned in pop culture music, we finally got to try the famous Nobu. We had a reservation for at 7:15 pm. The San Diego Nobu location is inside the Hard Rock Hotel. We started off ordering the Yellowtail Jalapeño, New Style Sashimi (Salmon) and Mushroom Toban Yaki. Our favorite was the Mushroom Toban Yaki, the buttery sauce and marinade was great flavor! We also enjoyed the New Style Sashimi (Salmon) as well due to the late ginger and sesame seeds. We did not enjoy the Yellowtail Jalapeno too much because the lemon flavor was too overpowering. As for the service, it was top tier! Napkins always folded, very attentive employees.
The food and drinks were top class. Once a Michelin star place. Service was brilliant. Every food that we have ordered was simply superb. Except the saltiness of the soy dip was overpowering. We tried many low sodium sauces but all of them tasted too salty. The Drinks were out of this world. It can get very noisy and cold due to powerful air vents at times.
It’s an experience. Choose the sushi table for seating. You can see magic being created. Went with the highly recommended main - black cod miso. It is great, buttery, done well. The skin is not crispy and yet tastes good. However, it’s not my favorite. And if you like me, prefer the raw and the cold, ditch this. Ditch this for what? Try the cold ones. Spoilt for choice and if you’ve difficulty choosing, ask the sushi master to do half plates for you. I can’t pick my favorite between the yellowtail jalapeño or the red snapper miso. If I had a rerun, I would do full plates of both. The yellowtail is fresh and extremely light. While the red snapper is citrusy. For dessert, I wish they had options. They had run out of everything and were left with the mochi. It doesn’t disappoint but I wished for variety Breakdown of food scores: 1. Cold plates - 7/5 2. Hot plate - 4/5 3. Dessert - 4/5
Located in the Gaslamp Quarter, Nobu San Diego brings the brand’s iconic blend of Japanese cuisine with Peruvian influences to a sleek, modern space. The ambiance is upscale yet approachable, with dim lighting, polished interiors, and a lively energy that makes it ideal for both date nights and group dinners. The menu features Nobu’s signature dishes like the Black Cod Miso, Yellowtail Jalapeño, and the crispy Rock Shrimp Tempura, along with a variety of sushi, sashimi, and creative small plates. The quality is consistently high, with fresh ingredients and elegant presentation across the board. Service is polished and attentive, and the bar program offers well-crafted cocktails and a strong sake selection to complement the food. While it carries the global Nobu name, the San Diego location feels well integrated into the local dining scene, offering a dependable, stylish night out in the heart of downtown. Would strongly budget around $150/pp for a full course meal with tax and tip.
I’m honestly unsure why the San Diego Nobu gets a bad rep- our experience was fantastic, just like other locations we’ve visited. Our server Jimmy was amazing! The service here is better than other locations I’ve visited. The quality of food is exactly the same. We stuck to the classics - black cod miso, crispy rice, jalapeño yellowtail and of course the lychee martinis! We’ll be back, Jimmy! :)
The ambiance is a dim sexy vibe, quiet busy itamaes and the hustle of waiters. The hosts were kind and the host manager was more business than friendly. We sat in the bar lounge where the seating is comfy and the tables are quaint. We meant to order just two items to share (which they state their menu is meant to be shareable. Don't expect ample portions) however after having the first two items we ended up ordering more. Each item was delectable, decadent and a beautiful corresponding mouthful of flavor. I have NEVER had such amazing spicy tuna. What we had: Brussel sprouts Crispy Rice with spicy tuna Vegetable tempura Spicy tuna roll Drinks: Mia margarita and purple cloud (virgin) We ended with the bento dessert box which came with green tea ice cream, a chocolate type cake/souffle and a sesame truile. Everything was FABULOUS! I don't think I can go back to eating sushi from home. This just hit the spot. Each waiter we had was kind, our main waiter was just very busy at the bar so he was distracted helping. Over all it was an experience to remember and we are looking forward to coming again!
Service is always on point. They accommodate the best they can when you have no reservation. The food is great quality. Never wait too long. The yellowtail with Jalapeño is the best. No one else has replicated the sauce. Lychee martini Tuna with the crunch rice is bomb The tacos are amazing. The salmon salad is slept on. It's really refreshing.
Love that this Subway is actually open 24 hours! Fast service and correct orders. A bummer that the bathroom was out of “service” but not the biggest issue in the world. Slightly annoyed that you can only use coupons if you order online - but the app doesn’t let you use your EBT card as a payment method so their promos and discounts dont apply when using EBT unfortunately ($6.99 any footlong I’m talking to you!!) Overall neat and tidy tho and will be back again for more late night subs!!
Great experience and good/great food. Highly recommend the Prime Beef Toban Yaki and the Lychee Elderflower Martini. I'm not a huge beef person, but my husband got the dish, and it was delicious. The Lychee Martini was perfect, best drink I've had in a while very smooth and not overly sweet but not bitter/sour either. As a virgin drink, the Lychee Passionfruit and Pineapple was also really delicious. A couple of friends had the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna and it was really good as well. I would recommend the Mushroom soup over the Miso with Tofu, sadly I wasn't that impressed with the Miso. The Shrimp and Lobster Spicy Lemon Sauce was okay, not overly impressed, nor with the Shrimp Tempura sushi rolls. Personally, I think it was way overly hyped over the taste, presentation, quality. I may have just had unrealistic expectations or wrong choices but definitely would go back for the really good items. I just expected everything to be mind-blowing.
The Nobu restaurant in San Diego impressed us with its exquisite menu and beautiful atmosphere – the food was absolutely amazing, and the setting created the perfect vibe for a great dinner. However, unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. We were celebrating my friend’s birthday and ordered a dessert for her, but it was never brought to the table. When I ordered a dessert for myself, it arrived with a candle and a birthday greeting, which felt odd since it was my friend’s birthday. When we spoke to the waiter, we were told that they only offer ice cream, but even that was never brought for my friend. During dinner, another incident occurred: after we had finished our appetizers and went to the restroom, the staff asked us to leave our credit cards at the table, as if they suspected we might “skip out.” We had left all our belongings, including expensive bags, at the table, which felt very disrespectful. The manager not only didn’t try to smooth things over but sided with the waiter, which left a bad impression. While the food and atmosphere were definitely praiseworthy, the service was disappointing, and these moments really tarnished the overall experience.
Service was impeccable, 5/5. Our waitress, Jane, checked on us multiple times during meal time. She and others explained to us the different Omakase courses. Atmosphere, 4/5. Good separation between tables. Courses were brought out in good timing. It got a bit too noisy toward the end of our meal as I couldn’t hear what the waiter was saying. Food, 4/5. Sashimi was fresh and good quality. Black cod miso was delicious. I especially wanted to try this dish because I make this dish at home by following the Nobu recipe. I am not sure the portion is shareable or family style. We ordered a lot of food to make sure that we don’t leave still feeling hungry as some people have mentioned. It was an enjoyable meal although a bit pricey.
Stopped in before a Padres Game and ordered on the kiosk. Was disappointed that they didn't have ice available as were the other customers since they didn't let us know prior to ordering. Worst was the soda was warm too from the fountain. It was 93 degrees outside. The sandwich was almost as bad. The only thing that didn't disappoint was my jalapeno chips. Sad but true. This place has gone downhill fast. I most likely won't be back. I used to frequent this location often.
Located right next to Petco Park in the gaslamp area. Open all night long. The footlong sandwiches are triple the price they used to be. my sandwich was skimpy as could be. I am disappointed in the amount of products and how light it was. Years ago the 5 dollar footlongs were 3 times as big as what I recently received.
My wife and I recently dined at Nobu to celebrate her birthday, an experience I had eagerly anticipated and saved for over a long time, given the restaurant's global reputation. I finally had the chance to invest in a night that I hoped would be memorable and reflective of its "celebrity status." Unfortunately, the reality was a profound disappointment that left us feeling rushed and frankly, cheated out of a special evening. The quality of the food itself was undeniably good. The signature dishes were executed beautifully, and there are no complaints regarding the talent in the kitchen. However, the entire experience was completely overshadowed by what felt like an aggressively understaffed and chaotic front-of-house operation. From the moment we sat down, we felt like we were participating in a high-priced, high-speed turnover contest. Our server was nowhere to be found when we needed them, but appeared with alarming speed to clear plates or push the next course the moment we finished a bite. It was impossible to feel relaxed or enjoy the moment. For a special occasion, the service should enhance the meal; here, it actively ruined it. The final bill surpassed the $300 mark, and the overwhelming feeling was one of deception. The hype, the exclusivity, and the celebrity status of the name do not translate into a high-quality dining experience. It’s a machine designed for maximum throughput, not personalized service or luxury. I waited years to be able to afford this evening, and to have it tarnished by rushed, indifferent service is simply unacceptable. I would caution anyone against investing such a significant amount of money expecting a truly luxurious or memorable birthday celebration. The price tag is for the name, not the quality of the overall experience.
I had been to Nobu several years ago and liked it very much. I was disappointed this time. We had a reservation and although the room was half empty - and got smaller until we were the last ones there at 9 pm - we were shown to a table under a speaker and next to the kitchen door. I asked to be moved and we were accommodated. There are speakers everywhere, however, and they were playing pop music, unbelievable in a fine-dining Japanese restaurant. Two birthday parties were under way, with singing. People were dressed as if for a football game; a guy in sweats at the adjacent table. So much for atmosphere, one of the things I had prized on my previous visit. The food was good - soup, tempura, fish, beef - not great. I expected it to be expensive and it was: about $360 for two, including two (good) cocktails and tip. It could have cost much more if the menus are anything to go by. There is an amazingly extensive drinks menu, including more Japanese choices than I have seen elsewhere. (I had arrived from Japan a few days before this meal.) Service was okay, again not great, and again inferior to the service last time. It was hard to get a waiter's attention; we had to ask for cutlery at one point, and for clean plates before another course; a request for an extra plate for sharing got a look of surprise from a waiter. I think I would probably have rated the experience higher if I had never been there before.
Food was delicious but servings were very small for such an expensive restaurant. The atmosphere and waiters reminded me of Chili’s and the service was just okay. Disappointed overall for spending over $300 as we expected a first class fine dining experience. Had to stop at McDonald’s on the way back to our hotel as we left hungry… not good! Better to spend your dining out money at someplace better.
Favorite dishes - San Diego sea urchin, Bluefin Tuna Tacos, House special roll. Wouldn’t recommend- yellowtail jalapeño, spicy crispy rice & shishito peppers. Premium Nobu sake we order two bottles because we love sake but it’s overpriced. Staff was amazing, friendly hostess and efficient server. We had a good time but just not a place I would recommend it, there’s better sushi places in SD.
The sandwich maker was very rude. He didn't acknowledge my presence until I cleared my throat. When I told him I was picking up a mobile order he turned away when I told him my name.
The required digital ordering system has made the experience slower and more frustrating than it used to be. In the past, you could walk down the line, tell the team what you wanted, and be out quickly with a fresh sandwich. That efficiency was a big reason to come here. Now, it takes several minutes to click through every option on the screen. Often you need help from the team just to complete the order, and they still have not started making the sandwich. By the time you reach the payment screen, you could have already ordered, eaten, and left under the old process. I understand the goal of using technology, but this system creates delays and confusion instead of improving speed or accuracy. I hope you reconsider how this process works so customers can get back to the fast, simple experience that made this place great.
Older lady being very rude for no reason when I came to politely pick up my order and was very polite she had a very bad attitude and threatened to report me because she was being very nasty and even though I gave her clear and direct information she was upset that she had a difficult time reading the name so I showed her on her phone. She immediately with no reason trying to hinder me from being successful in my endeavors by being unnecessarily difficult and possibly discriminating and would not let me speak to her coworkers without allowing me to explain that I simply am here to pick up an order. Why she was being difficult and her job is to communicate effectively with the public is now inconvenient due to her lack of communication and friendly customer service duties.
I’ve ordered doordash from here multiple times as I work overnight and it’s the only things really open. I’ve always had an issue with the food from here and tonight after eating my other half of the sandwhich ordered yesterday i found HAIRS. i’ve worked restaurants before and even retail and this disgusts me after not one but TWO. in my food. i have dark brown wavy hair and this peice was blonde and straight. I’m disgusted and will definitely be reaching out for compensation .
Horrible experience, avocado skin, pit, banana pepper stems, stem from lettuce in both our sandwiches. When asked for a refund or to remake sandwich employees said they won’t do it, when asked for a number for manager booth employees went to the kitchen and stayed there. We weren’t being aggressive or rude, we just explained and asked politely and they just ignored us after.
I always come to the subway several times a day I came around after midnight and was treated very horribly I ordered two of The deal of the Day meals and for $3 made them into a footlong the person that took my order was extremely rude threw the cookies at me refused to give me a receipt completely not acceptable. I wouldn't give them a one but a 0 I will like to speak to the manager about this Employee need to be fired ASAP
Bathrooms not open during overnight. Few transient about. Ok service but management does not support community. Maybe if you don't look homeless, and ask anyone other than the disheveled kid usually working nights alone, you can use restroom. Preferably, use Walmart within three miles. Not an ideal community vibe with these guys. Gentleman in pic claimed he was the owner. "The 10th guy that messed that bathroom up ruined it for everyone". Is this what subway is about? "F the public" - guy in pic. Last straw with franchise owners.
The staff was really kind and they were working really hard. My problem with my experience was the automated ordering. They had kiosks that you're supposed to order at instead of just asking the human to make it the way you want. It has a terrible UI, and it ends up taking longer to order what you want than it ever took to to have the person make your sandwich - then you have to wait for them to make it! I want it to be clear that the employees were great, but management has made a terrible, anti-human decision here. I'd bet that they're using this to justify lower wages for the (again, exceptional!) staff. Terrible experience, never returning
Subway, no longer offers wraps, made with tortillas only with flat bread. If I wanted bread I’d order a sandwich. It appears the only place I could buy wraps are at hospitals smh
First time in SD, got here @ 12:40am (kinda late… but OPEN 24hrs!!) and was denied service - stating to place an order on the kiosk ONLY, and that it would be an HOUR wait after that. What kind of service is that? Staffing needs to be addressed at this location, 1 person cant fill all mobile and in-person orders. Unfortunately 0.3/10.
Can build your way. Its all done buly a kiosk then only 1 sandwich maker. Very different from other subways which is unfortunate when you come to a subway knowing what you get. Also 1 worker is crazy and also unsafe for the area. Please do better. P.s. nothing against the worker just the setup and staffing
I always come here and order form the kiosk because they tell you to. They tell you not to order at the counter anymore. So i do and i always ask for extra veggies and extra protein and i pay for it but when they make my sandwich its all small and they dont put the extra items. Even though i paid for them. Big disappointment. This has happened 3 times already.
I am very dissapointed because I told the guy to toast my sandwiches and he didn't do it. I had to heat it up in my home microwave. Also, I had ordered a spicy nacho chicken sandwich and he gave me a roast beef with nacho sandwich covered in all types of sauces that were very salty. He also told us to use the screen to order instead of being polite and take our order and input the order himself.
