If you are in town looking to enjoy a decent bowl of pho. This is the place to go. Do not expect the best customer service because there isn't any in here. However, they are fast, they will bring everything you ask for with accuracy and then they leave you alone for you to enjoy your pho. They will not return to ask if everything is ok or if you need anything else. You have to make sure you get their attention if you need anything else. Going back to the pho. I personally have tried many places' pho and I have to say I am yet to find one as good as this one.
This old school gem opens early so my husband and I went for breakfast. Service was brisk. I got the everything pho - came with a pile of fresh herbs and asked for the chilli oil on the side. Went so well with it! I have thoroughly enjoyed my pho! Broth wasn’t overly salty or sweet, meat was tender, noodles were silky- and that’s how I remembered it in Vietnam. My husband got the braised beef that came with half baguette. The meat chunks were mainly fatty/chewy. He didn’t really enjoy it. So skip it and have pho there instead. The Vietnamese coffee was also smooth and wasn’t overly bitter. I’ll definitely revisit when in San Diego the next time!
Phở Hòa is one of the best spots for comforting, authentic Vietnamese pho! The broth is rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced you can tell it’s been simmered for hours. The noodles are fresh and the portions are generous, with plenty of tender meat and crisp herbs. The service is quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is casual and welcoming perfect for a cozy meal any time of day. Everything tastes fresh and consistent every visit. If you’re craving a hearty bowl of pho that hits the spot every time, Phở Hòa is a must-visit!
Excellent quality Pho. If they made the broth more of a bone broth using ox tail it would be perfect. There was a fair amount of meat in each of our selections. We got the #1 Dac Biet Xe Lua (Large Special combo: Rare steak, well done brisket and flank, tendon, and tripe) and a large #16 Tai (Rare steak). The service was very fast, less than 10 minutes from placing our order until our soups arrived. A tiny dish of fried pepper oil is available upon request. Update: Arrived at noon on a Saturday. No wait, we were seated immediately. Ordered #1 and #16 again. Arrived in less than 10 minutes. Both were very tasty. Update: Arrived at 1pm on a Saturday. No wait, we were seated immediately. Ordered #1 and #16 again. Arrived in 7 minutes. Both were very good as usual.
No frills authentic Vietnamese pho. Delicious broth, plenty of rice noodles and a good selection of meats! Do not expect much of a service though, most servers speak little English, mostly numbers. So you have to say a number of the dish you want. I would recommend 17. Serve time is under a minute!! Faster than a fast food restaurant. For a $12 bowl of amazing pho with lots of noodles and meat it is hard to find a comparable value in San Diego.
Best Pho in San Diego! Sam Bo Luong 100% tastes like in Viet Nam and Ca Phe Sua is not too sweet. Perfect! We ordered Pho dac biet, Pho bo kho, Sam bo luong and Ca phe sua. Total $40, reasonable price and good mount of food, not over like American size. Uncle staffs served so fast. 1+
Phò Hòa in City Heights/Talmadge is a classic, fairly authentic Vietnamese pho dining experience. I give this spot a solid 4.4/5 stars. It’s not the greatest I’ve had, but it’s definitely up there. The layout of the restaurant, the busyness, and the carts they use remind me a lot of being on the train in Vietnam. To say they’re on top of the tables is an understatement—the staff are constantly available, cleaning, and ready to take your order at any second. My friend and I ordered brisket, rare steak, and tripe pho. We loaded up our bowls with basil, jalapeños, hoisin, sriracha, and chili oil. The broth was good, the meat was tender—particularly loved the brisket—and the portions were good. For some reason my bowl had a smaller portion of noodles, but there’s plenty of meat, so I’m not complaining. I think that the broth could use a bit more complexity, perhaps more anise and a longer steeping time with more bones. All in all, it’s a solid pho though. Lots of seating, fast service, a range of meat cuts—basically a no-frills, classic pho eatery with good prices and a no-nonsense atmosphere. If I had to choose other pho places to rank above this one, I’d say Pho Sao Bien or Pho Minh are slightly better in terms of broth quality.
Pho Hoa, used to be my "go-to" spot! In fact, when I travelled (even to Vietnam) this is the place I always went to go eat at. I could not wait to get back and eat there again. Well, I guess after 30 year removed, things have changed a bit. The Pho is still good. But I thought the broth had become darker, and tasted less beef like, and more salty. I ordered Pho Dac Biet. The portion sizes were good, and prices were on Par for 2024. I just felt like the Pho quality was not as I remembered. The brother used to be very clear and light color, yet had a strong beef flavor. I guess that is very difficult to accomplish unless you are a master soup maker. Anyway, still a solid bowl of Pho, and you cannot go wrong with Pho Hoa.
Pho specialty restaurant. The broth smelled really good and was very aromatic, but the flavor was a bit underwhelming compared to the smell. They don’t have fresh flat rice noodles, which was slightly disappointing. Service was great though. The staff were very friendly and even offered free hot tea on a rainy day, which was a very thoughtful touch.
First time here traveling from out of state. Plenty of seats. Walked in and welcomed with the strong and aroma flavors from Pho. Menu is very simple only Pho and drinks. Inside is old fashioned and simple. No chili oil on the table. That's an essential condiment. Sure they might have only if you ask. Staffs should ask customers as they make an order. Here comes my 3-star rating. Really enjoyed the first couple of spoons until I found a small hair in my bowl. It looked like an eyelash. Kinda ruined my experience. I didn't call for attention. Just finished and paid. Was on a long flight didn't want to make a big deal. They also accept cards.
12-08-24 We drove 30min to come and have Pho here, our old neighborhood when we arrived in the US in the 80s. Ordered: 4/5 -# 8 $12.60: rare steak, well done flank and tendon -# 15 $12.60: rare steak and tripe-flavorful broth. Love how they give you a bowl of pipping hot broth to dip your rare steak. That way you can control how well you want to cook your sliced steak Service: 2/5 The elderly man who took our order and interacted with us was not friendly at all. He was not pleasant and rude to the other customer. I witnessed his mean demeanor while paying for my bill. I didn’t care for that. Note: -3% fee for credit card payments -no itemized receipt will be given
Pho Hoa in San Diego’s University Heights area is a decent spot if you’re craving a classic bowl of pho. Their menu is quite focused, offering mainly pho without many other options. The soup is flavorful, and the noodles have a good, chewy texture that’s satisfying. While it’s not the most outstanding pho around, it does the job if you’re just looking to fulfill a craving for Vietnamese comfort food. The service was friendly, though communication can be a bit challenging as the waitstaff’s English is limited. With plenty of other Vietnamese spots nearby, Pho Hoa is a solid option if you’re in the area and want a simple, tasty bowl of pho.
Local pho place, struggled to find parking, walked in, was about to sit down before seeing two chairs at the table I was being seated at were covered in food crumbs. Got grossed out but still decided to give it a try, looked at the menu, and they said there’s no option for veggie only pho (even tho I said meat broth is okay). Ended up leaving
Server was RUSHING us to order and was very CONDESCENDING towards us. I was trying to confirm the order and he kept tilting his head to the side like I was dumb. I got very upset and had to say something to him because that attitude is uncalled for especially when you are working. I asked for his name and he immediately said im sorry and failed to provide his name. I spoke to other workers and they were quite pleasant but whatever that man was going through, please keep work and life separate. I hope you are doing better. The pho wasnt that good. The beef soup for my daughter was actually surprisingly good. Meat was tender but the pho had barely any flavor. Menu was only pho mainly and soup based meals. I didnt read the fine print I guess and hoped to see more on the menu as a variety. Walking in, there is no counter to get served. I waved and they pointed at an area and thats when the rudeness began. I sat down and asked if there was a kids menu, the waiter looked back, DIDNT SAY A WORD, then walked away shaking his head. I advise to go check out JJ Sushi and Pho or any other pho spot. I can't believe the experience I had there.
