Beyond fantastic tacos! Carlos at the entrance has a simple question to ask: Pork or Beef - and so your journey begins! You stand in the line, say one word - "everything" - and see an absolutely bangin' taco served to you. Given the limited option, we had to try both. 1 taco hits the spot, and two of them fill you up. Perfect portions, brilliant taste, and very very reasonably priced. As you head to pay for your tacos, make sure to ask for the green and red sauces. They are really good, green one being the spicer one but filled with flavor!
We were waiting for the line longer than a half an hour. At that time, I had no idea what people were line up for. There were two lines long and short ones. My husband said just go for the long line, it should be the better option. The food was so good. The wait time was worth it.
I visited twice in 24 hours, and the tacos are the best!! Highly recommend the lingua and abodaba. They are many variations you can request, such as adding pineapple or veggies.
Best place to get tacos in SD. Providing a variety of proteins, some you can’t find in other taco places. We come here every time we visit SD and it never disappoints.
EAT HERE!!! My Lyft driver told me about this place. A little research confirmed it is legit. The food…OMG! It’s a little intimidating at first, but the super helpful security guard/host explained. And all the cooks were patient with newbies. The spicy pork taco is their famous dish - and it was good! I also had the steak and the chorizo tacos - excellent. If it looks like there is a line, it moves fast. I might not ever be able to eat another taco. SO GOOD!!! I ordered mine to go so I could go back to my hotel room and drink wine and watch basketball. The food traveled well and was still delicious.
The enormous queue was the best review of this place. A long line snaked it's way around the corner. I had to wait about 25 mins just to place my order. I ordered 2 pork and two beef tacos. Wow - very much worth the wait. Everything you expect and need from a great taco. Also a great experience - I loved the well drilled chaos. 4 tacos and a can of coke cam to $22. Bargain.
We were super lucky and there was no que whatsoever!! Love everything about this fabulous street taco restaurant!! We ate upstairs and it was amazing experience. The tacos are beyond wonderful and we would travel back to San Diego And El Gordo just for their tacos!!
Anytime we visit San Diego, Tacos El Gordo is a must, whether it's going in person or ordering on doordash. This was my first time to this location. It is super cramp and busy, but remember, there's separate lines for different meats. We always get adobada tacos and mulas. The cheese on the mulas is soooo good. The flavor of the meat is delicious and moist. For this particular location, there's seating inside and limited outdoor seating. There's more seats upstairs but the ventilation is terrible. It gets really hot up there so you'll just want to eat your tacos quickly and get out. Regardless, it is so nice to have a location right in downtown SD. It'll be our first stop every time we fly into SD!
The best and most iconic adobada (spicy pork) tacos! Tacos El Gordo lives up to its reputation, serving quality tacos that are made hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. And don’t forget the pineapple. The restaurant gets busy, but the fast, casual system keeps moving. Order in the line for your chosen meat, then pay at the cashier. Limited outdoor seating and street parking only.
Famous taco shop extremely popular with locals and tourists. Large selection of Tijuana style tacos are sold in a setup designed to handle the large crowd it attracts every day. You join different lines to get different tacos and go to the cashier to pay once you get all you need. Their adobada is crispy on the outside but not as salty as those sold elsewhere. The cabeza was really tender. Seating is outside and very limited, so prepare to eat it standing up.
I lived in the neighborhood and always wondered why the line was so long. I took guest here and dined for the first time and totally understood the hype. We got the adobada and asada tacos and it was fire. I'm sure they have other great things so we'll be back to try them out.
The food was amazing. We got the asada tacos and the asada quesadillas with everything on it. It looks just as good as it tasted! The place is small but it’s packed for a reason! The food was worth the short wait! Not bad on pricing too considering we are from Texas! Loved the food here. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area
Jordyn is awesome! She made excellent recommendations that made our evening just right. The ribeye spinalis is SO good and the brussels sprouts are some of the best I’ve had. Great environment, comfortable seating, good wine list, great bartenders. All around lovely experience.
We had two reservations for NYE. One for dinner at 8:30 and then can e back at 11 to celebrate the ball drop! We can’t remember our servers name at 8:30 but he was great! Then we had Mattie at 11 and he was awesome! Breannie was also very sweet to us as well. Thanks STK and especially the Team.
Had an amazing experience at STK Steakhouse downtown. Shoutout to Josh, our server. He was professional, attentive, and made the night effortless. Drinks stayed perfect with no spills, he recommended some incredible appetizers and entrées, and his wine pairing was spot on. We had a client fly in from New Orleans for a photo and video shoot and came here right after. It was the perfect spot to wrap the day. Great vibe, great food, and even better service. We’ll definitely be back!
We had a very nice dinner at STK San Diego tonight to celebrate the holidays. The atmosphere is definitely unique for a steakhouse—it’s very energetic and the music is a bit loud, but it creates a fun, modern environment that’s different from your typical quiet fine dining. The food was well-prepared and enjoyable: The bread: It’s a warm, pull-apart brioche topped with a subtle blue cheese butter and served with a fresh chive oil. It’s easy to see why people often ask for a second round. Japanese A5 Wagyu Potstickers: Tried these from the holiday cheers menu; they were crunchy and a great way to start the meal. Filet & Lobster and Cowgirl Steak: Both cuts were high quality and cooked exactly to our preference. Drinks: The Rosé was a solid choice, and the Fade to Blackberry was a flavorful, though surprisingly strong, whiskey cocktail. Overall, it’s a great spot if you're looking for quality steak in a high-energy setting.
★★★★★ STK Steakhouse San Diego – Absolutely Perfect We visited STK Steakhouse in San Diego today with my wife and child, and everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The moment we walked in, the atmosphere was vibrant, stylish, and welcoming — modern music, elegant design, and friendly staff who made us feel right at home. Our server was attentive and professional, striking that perfect balance of warmth and efficiency. Every drink was beautifully made — refreshing, creative, and perfectly balanced. For dinner, I ordered the steak, and it was flawless — cooked exactly to temperature, juicy, tender, and full of rich flavor. My wife’s salmon steak was just as impressive — fresh, delicate, and perfectly seared. Every bite reminded us how seriously the kitchen takes quality and precision. The sides, sauces, and presentation were exceptional, and the service was timed perfectly throughout the evening. Even small touches, like the way they treated our child with genuine kindness and respect, made the whole experience feel elevated yet personal. Dessert was a beautiful finale — sweet, refined, and the perfect ending to a truly outstanding meal. STK isn’t just another steakhouse; it’s a full experience — sophisticated, energetic, and unforgettable. If you want amazing food, impeccable service, and a place that makes you feel celebrated, STK Steakhouse San Diego is the one. We’ll definitely be back. Every single detail tonight was perfect. Rating: 10/10 — flawless experience.
Our waiter Justin was absolutely AMAZING!!!! We were first time diners celebrating our 15 year wedding anniversary and before we were even done with our meals, we were already planning our next visit back!! I don’t know why you guys only have a 4 star review because in my opinion, you are nothing short of 5 stars! Thank you Justin, for making our first visit at STK so phenomenal! We will be back VERY soon and will 100% requesting to sit in your section!
$39 all-you-can-eat brunch at STK inside the Andaz was such a solid find! 🥓🥞 They had everything from chicken & waffles, biscuits & gravy, cheesy tots, and scrambled eggs with bacon & sausage to a full bread basket and even charcuterie with prosciutto + manchego. The food came out quick, portions were generous, and the staff kept everything flowing. Loved that coffee and OJ were included too. Great spot if you want a stylish but laid-back brunch in the Gaslamp!
Brunch at STK San Diego is a full experience, not just a meal. The vibe is lively and stylish with music that makes it feel like a celebration from the moment you walk in. The dishes are beautifully plated and packed with flavor from perfectly cooked eggs and fluffy pancakes to creative takes on classics. The mimosas are just as impressive, fresh, fun, and designed to keep the brunch energy going especially with the sparklers.
This is a hectic, fast paced taco stop but a must visit any time you’re passing by! The food is unbelievably fresh, flavourful and cooked in front of you. It’s quite a melting pot if you’re there at night but all the better for a local experience. Absolutely delicious, mouthwatering choices and generous portions of beautifully seasoned meat (tacos).
We stopped by the Gaslamp District location of Tacos El Gordo after hearing all the hype — and it definitely lived up to its reputation for flavor. The line was long and the space was packed, but once you get inside, you can immediately smell the grill and hear the sizzling from the open kitchen. We ordered a mix of tacos — carne asada, cabeza, lengua, and a couple of mulas. Every bite was fresh, hot off the grill, and full of that classic, smoky street taco flavor. The meats were perfectly seasoned, and the tortillas were warm and just the right texture. That said, the ambiance isn’t great — it’s crowded, loud, and the limited seating makes it more of a grab-and-go spot than a place to relax. The service, however, was quick and efficient despite the chaos. Food: 4/5 – Authentic, flavorful, and satisfying. Ambiance: 2/5 – Crowded and noisy with minimal seating. Service: 3.5/5 – Fast and organized. If you’re looking for top-tier tacos and don’t mind waiting in line or standing while you eat, this is absolutely worth a stop when you’re in downtown San Diego.
Some tips on ordering and seating! As people can glean from some of the other reviews, it’s a little confusing how to order and/or where to seat. Seating is a bit problematic, but there is a room upstairs that a lot of folks did not seem to know about! So try to make your way up there! For ordering, there is somebody who comes through the line and funnels you toward different lines based on what you are ordering. So, I was really hoping this would be a five star review. And it was very very very good, maybe a 4.5. But it certainly wasn’t a five star review. Here is why. I wanted to order Cabeza, and so I was sent to a quicker line, and then nobody really waited on me. It was very confusing. I was trying to ask them for two tacos to go, and they were waiting on the people that were behind me. So, my husband (who ordered in the longer line) had his tacos finished much before I did. I think they followed me to a spot that they thought I had already ordered? It was really unclear. And then they gave me the tacos and they were not “to go.” And I did say it in Spanish and in English. Now, keep in mind it was super chaotic, line was out the door, and loud, so I completely understand that maybe they did not understand my order needed to be “to go.” And the tacos were excellent! But people were saying there were some of the best they’ve ever had, and I used to live in San Francisco, and I had tacos like this in the mission district on a regular basis. So I don’t know what I was expecting, but all of the reviews made it sound like this was just a “wow” moment, and it was not. It was very very good. It was a very solid excellent taco with lots of good toppings, but was it the best taco I ever had? No. We also travel to other countries, including dipping into Mexico and Argentina and so perhaps that was also affecting my expectation? All that said, it was a solid taco with good flavoring, but I especially heard the Cabeza was excellent, and maybe it was because I got it “to go”, and so it dried out a little bit, but it just wasn’t the excellence that I had hoped and heard.
The Al pastor tacos were incredible. There was a really long line but they manage it really well with a system. Gets busy with convention goers so there was limited to no seating. Found somewhere upstairs ate quickly then left since people were waiting for the table. I got an horchata to drink and it was good but it was from a fountain. Same with the other aguas frescas. Overall would definitely come here again especially if I found a time that was after the lunch rush.
Tacos El Gordo on F Street is an absolute staple for authentic Tijuana-style street food in San Diego. The carne asada is a standout, featuring a perfect smoky char and a generous topping of fresh guacamole. For those who appreciate traditional cuts, the lengua is exceptional—slow-cooked to a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that is easily some of the best in the city. The atmosphere is high-energy and fast-paced, centered around a unique system where you join a specific line for each type of meat. While the setup is no-frills, the quality of the handmade tortillas and seasoned meats makes it well worth the wait.
Decent tacos and a no frills atmosphere. Prepare to just walk up to the various stations to order and then pay at the end. Adobada was the best compared to the nopales and asada options.
With the new year comes the return of Amex credit card perks, and we booked an Italian restaurant through Resy—which led us to STK Steakhouse. What we didn’t expect was a full feast for both the taste buds and the eyes. 🕑 Pro tip: Book a late afternoon to early evening slot. It’s perfect for a relaxed “early dinner,” street parking is easier to find, and you can catch their Happy Hour. Most items are priced at $3, $6, or $9, which is an incredible deal. We ordered several dishes, including Wagyu tacos, meatballs, and mushroom fritters—amazing value, and you can order freely without hesitation. 🍞 The complimentary bread is freshly baked and arrives warm at the table, with a lightly crispy crust and soft interior. Paired with garlic butter, it was so good we couldn’t help but ask for a free refill—absolutely addictive. 🦞 A must-order: FILET 6oz & LOBSTER TAIL with Signature Butters. The server torches the butter tableside, and as the flames rise, the rich buttery aroma fills the air—your senses are won over before the first bite. The lobster is tender and springy, and the filet is perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Priced at $92 + $12, it’s a high-quality surf-and-turf that’s truly worth it. 🍨 After the main course, the restaurant kindly treated us to complimentary ice cream. The smooth, cool vanilla flavor perfectly balanced the richness of the steak and completed the dining experience. We left completely stuffed—in the best way possible. ✨ Lastly, a word on the ambiance: the restaurant features various semi-private seating areas in different styles, paired with dynamic lighting and artistic decor. Whether it’s a romantic date or a gathering with friends, it’s a great fit. Dining here feels like a double indulgence for both the palate and the eyes—definitely a steakhouse we’d come back to again.
Definitely must request for Justin as your server if you’re dinning in. He’s very attentive, friendly and has great suggestions on what type of dish to choose from. It was my first time at this location and it didn’t disappoint as well compared to the one in LA. Since it was Christmas and I’ve been to two family events I didn’t order that much but enough to be filling, thanks to Justin recommendation. The filet, tuna tartare and Brussels was just on point.
The separation the line by meat order was efficient, but the people making your order weren’t really putting in much effort. Besides the lack of acknowledgement and response, the tacos are slopped on to the plate. But the above wasn’t the entire reason for my rating. The adobada was just ok, it was really dry and didn’t have much punch to it. Overall it was ok, so landing right in the middle.
I’ve been here a few times for happy hour and brunch. The decor and atmosphere are great - modern and somewhat upscale. It’s spacious. They also have a back room, great for group gathering. Brunch menu was good but food was not impressive. I ordered an espresso martini - you can have a creamy version or black version, not worth $30 a drink (with taxes and tip). Their happy hour is a very good deal. Their mini cheeseburgers and truffle fries were good. I’d go back for happy hour again. For my visit this time for dinner, i ordered a Large ribeye with red wine sauce and a Brussel sprout side dish. Shortly after, they brought me 12oz ribeye, not 16oz. It seems very fast for a piece of steak to be ready! They brought it back to get me the correct one. The steak was tender and delicious with red wine sauce. Brussel sprouts were a bit too soft and sweet for my taste. There wasn’t much bacon pieces. They cleared our plates away pretty fast, as we were finishing up our last bite! The check followed quickly as well. It seems very rushed. It’s not a $200 worthy meal.
I used to LOVE getting Tacos El Gordo anytime I was in San Diego, but on my latest visit, I unfortunately found myself quite let down and disappointed... As a popular destination, you can often expect for Tacos El Gordo to have a wait - especially during late night hours. So that wasn't surprising...what did surprise, however, was the lack of quality or flavor in any of the ingredients for both the Tacos and Mulas that we ordered. The asada taco meat was dry, overcooked, and quite flavorless. They seemed to have attempted to make up for that by just utterly drowning the thing in salsa and guacamole - the problem is that (aside from being WAY too much) these also tasted very bland and flavorless. There were definitely not-so-fresh ingredients comprising them. The tortillas were also all very dry, crumbly, and will fall apart while you try to eat the Tacos or Mulas. Another thing I noticed - the tacos are now almost FIVE DOLLARS. This was supposed to be a great spot for grabbing some solid & cheap tacos.....now the tacos aren't even cheap OR of decent quality! One more thing to keep in mind is that there is limited seating inside, and the environment isn't necessarily conducive to a relaxing space to eat within. This is best as pick-up/take-out! But regardless of where you plan on eating your tacos, I can no longer say I necessarily recommend Tacos El Gordo...for pretty much ANY situation. They were never easy to order with the chaos of the environment and the long lines, but now you're waiting all that time for overpriced tacos with low-quality preparation and ingredients.
First off, there’s no valet parking available unless you’re a guest of the Andaz Hotel, which is extremely inconvenient considering STK is located in the busy Gaslamp District. Secondly, our server didn’t greet us at all. He never made eye contact throughout the entire meal and his attitude felt completely transactional- zero warmth, zero hospitality. After waiting 15 minutes without anyone taking our order, I approached the hostess to request a different table. Her response was somehow even worse. She told me, “Those booths are reserved for VIPs,” and then loudly asked, “Do you want to speak with a manager?!”-twice. In a restaurant this small, she even asked where I was seated as if she hadn’t just watched us waiting. At that point, I was already checked out of the experience. When the food arrived, it only confirmed the disappointment. The filet was cold, and the “prawns” were clearly just basic farm-raised shrimp. To top it off, our server returned at the end with two complimentary glasses of cheap sparkling wine, as if that would make up for everything. Sadly, nothing about this visit met the luxury standard STK markets itself around. If you’re looking for a more elevated dining experience in San Diego, I’d recommend Mastro’s by the bay-classier atmosphere, better service, live music, better pricing, and far superior food.
NOT a traditional steakhouse. This is more of a loud, hip, Gen Z steakhouse. it does devalue the place. It is located in a hotel so the bathrooms are in the hotel. The seating is super close to each other. If you want to sit “upstairs” which is 3 steps up, the happy hour does not apply there. The server was great (we came right at opening hour), but his service started slowing down as the place got busy. Not his fault. The company needs to hire more staff. The food was not memorable; thinking back I can’t remember the taste. Water took FOREVER to get. I had to ask the waiter multiple times. The drinks from the bar also forever. At one point we were almost done eating . Like what is the point of drinking the drink now that I’m two bites away from being done… For the price, go to Morton’s down a few blocks! Or any other steakhouse in downtown They do decorate for each season so if you don’t celebrarte a certain holiday, do not go. We came for our anniversary and they did not acknowledge it. Most places who charge these prices would at least acknowledge it. Additionally, reservations do not matter… if people walk in they must seat them so good luck to you and your reservation… Also probably better to go check out the other happy hours
