This was my first time trying Vietnamese Curry and visiting Bac Lieu. My server was very helpful and welcoming. The food was delicious and the portions were on point. Excited to come back and try more of the menu!
Bun bo hue is good. It's very red but don't let that scare you. They also give a lot of veggie sides. Lots of meat and noodles too. Watch out the noodles are slippery! Ordering is easy and quick. You should pay by cash. Comfortable table seating for single dining and easily accessible by 14 or 49 bus.
came here on a weekend afternoon and didn’t have to wait for a table at all. we ordered C1, P9, and B9: woven noodle with chicken skewer, pho with five spice chicken, and vermicelli bowl with five spice chicken and iced coffee. they give you the drip container for the coffee unlike most restaurants so the coffee is freshly made in front of you. the pho broth was flavorful and the chicken was so tender. i really enjoyed the woven noodles dish, you make your own DIY wrap and dip it in the fish sauce. it was a perfectly refreshing meal after spending the morning outside. would 100% recommend and come back!
Fantastic Vietnamese food! We ordered the classic beef pho (P1) and the vegetarian pho. The bowls came with all the extras including jalapeños, which is the sign of a great spot imo. The beef broth was soooo good, west coast approved ✅ The veggie tofu was exactly right and the Thai iced tea was perfectly sugared. Everyone was so sweet! Thanks for the great meal!
We stumbled upon this awesome spot in San Francisco. A Vietnamese joint that's all about that comfy, family-style vibe. Lot of unique dishes. great food, reasonable prices, and fast service. I order the crispy fried egg noodle with tofu. I was clean and tasty, just the way I like it. My friend got the grilled pork skewers with rice noodle. and it was full of flavor, our first time trying that dish. Definitely planning to go back and try more of their food!
Shrimp roll so original with pho tai soup and the classic Vietnamese ice coffee. Che Tai dessert Five Spice fried quail
We’re really glad we tried this hidden gem! What a lovely little spot serving some exquisite Vietnamese dishes I’ve never tried before. Highlights include b12 bac lieu noodle soup (bun mam), sugarcane juice, and the beef pho. The bac lieu soup was stellar! This is a seafood based fish-paste hearty soup noodle with generous helpings of shrimp, fish, and squid (I think). It’s very warming to the soul as it instantly heats up your sinuses and perfect for a cold and foggy San Francisco day. I’m usually not a seafood fan but had to give this a go given all the recommendations. No regrets at all; perfect for nursing hangover. Sugarcane juice is not too sweet and pairs well with the noodle soup. Last the beef pho tai was excellent and on par with the best the city has to offer. Beef quality is great and broth isn’t too salty/intense/MSG. Really like how the soup wasn’t oily at all. Would come back again!
I like Dry Hu Tieu Nam Vang (or Cambodian ho fun dry noodle), and not many Vietnamese restaurants have this dish. Have to say I have tried this dish in many other places and I can say that it tastes closest to the original in SF. Honestly, the price here is slightly higher than some, but they have lots of different dishes to try and most of them are tasty. The servers are super friendly. The place is cozy and welcoming. Sadly they close for lunch at 3pm to 5pm and I'm often hungry at that time so. Definitely comeback if I'm in the area (cuz I moved far from this area a while ago)
I’ve been a long time fan of Bac Lieu and my latest visit still did not disappoint. Especially love their garlic noodles, vermicelli, and rice plates!
Decided to give this place a try and they did not disappoint! The prawns were bursting with flavor along with the sticky white rice. I will definitely return to try more items on the menu. I will try dining I. Next time to get the full experience.
Ordered takeout - the dishes really exceeded our expectations. We loved the mini savory shrimp pancakes, which are super unique and delicious! I think there is coconut milk in the batter but the coconut taste is not overpowering at all. We also had papaya salad, woven rice noodle with chicken skewers and shaking beef. Hidden gem - definitely will come back for more!
A cozy Mekong Delta Vietnamese option in Bernal Heights serving up a nice mix of noodle soups, bun and rare-find appetizers (i.e. Banh Khot — little shrimp pancakes similar to takoyaki balls). Very friendly service. Stick to the chef’s recommendations, Bun Mam (Bac Lieu Noodle Soup) being one of them — round noodles served in unctuous seafood broth topped with shrimp, fish filet and pork slices. The Bun Bo Hue, however, could have had a broth a bit deeper in flavor. The noodles slightly over cooked. But overall tasty. The spring rolls were light and crispy, served with lettuce wraps.
I went to a couple different Vietnamese places while staying in SF, and this was one of the most impressive places. They recommended Oxtail Beef Stew Noodle Soup, and the taste was exactly same as the one I tried in South Vietnam. Beef was super tender. Taro, Tapioca, and Coconut Milk Dessert is highly recommended for the dessert. It's smooth and you'll like it!
We've come here before as a big group and loved their food and service. The space is quite dark inside though. This time around, we ordered the shrimp wrapped in fried tofu, pho dat biet and bun bo hue. The shrimp appetizer was crispy and juicy. The pho dat biet came with a semi raw egg. You slurr that into the hot soup and semi raw beef, yum! The bun bo hue was the perfect spicy level for me which was very mild. I downed the whole bowl which had lots of ingredients. The noodles for the bbh were round so they were super slippery but they were delicious. We ended the meal with 3 beans drink which was the perfect thing to wash everything down. We came early around 5:30pm but the place got busy fast. Servers there were super friendly.
Was craving noodle soup and so glad we tried this place! Quick and kind service. Our favorite was trying the banh khot, a southern Vietnamese dish that was so flavorful and aromatic!
I used to go here at least once a week when I lived nearby and I still miss it. The pho here is great! I’ve had better, but not often. If you’re craving pho, you won’t be disappointed here. Their fresh rolls, papaya salad, vermicelli, and rice dishes are all great as well. I don’t think you can really go wrong with anything on the menu. Service is fast and minimal, which is exactly what I wanted since I could get in and out in under 30 if I really wanted to.

Delicious meal. We ordered the beef noodle stew, great flavor and tender beef. The garlic noodles with grilled pork was so flavorful. The five spice chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy. The savory mini shrimp pancakes was light and fluffy and so yummy! Would def recommend and will be coming back!
Excellent food and service at Bac Lieu. Great neighborhood spot that we love to frequent for lunch! My favorite dish is the Five spice chicken vermicelli. And the imperials rolls are super tasty as well.

I have came to this restaurant a numerous times. Almost every time I came I ordered C4 the pork skewers with woven noodle. I believe this is the only restaurant in sf that serve such a dish. The pork skewers are nicely bbqed and the taste is just right. The meat and the sauce are prepared just right not overwhelmingly salty or sweet. This has become a place that I come at least once a month because of its good food quality!
We come to Bac Lieu regularly for the great selection of authentic Vietnamese food and friendly staff! Our favorites are fried egg rolls, five spice chicken over garlic noodle, spicy noodle soup, and Thai iced tea/coffee. The team is friendly and provides efficient service. The restaurant is chill and plays good pop music in the background making it comfortable to have a conversation.
Vietnamese restaurant with a large variety of menu items to choose from. The servers are very nice to serve. You can get chili oil that is not on the table by telling them.

Not the best vegetarian options but there were a good number of them. The crispy egg noodles with veggies was very good. The vegetarian mini pancakes were a bit bland. The curry with rice was good but could've used more flavour. Tofu was extremely soft which I liked.
