Long over due review. Been coming here for a few years and more regularly recently. Strong drinks. ( Carlos and Kristoff) Amazing fast attentive staff. Unique wall decor. Marble floors, old world bar and a vibe. Don’t wonder- just come and explore. Flavorful steaks, classic fish a chips, deviled eggs are tasty and dive into the refreshing salads. Did I mention the cocktails & service ? See you there.
We came to the Cavalier for Christmas brunch. We’ve been to the mall so many times and always missed this place and Christmas felt like a good time to try it out. We had reservations but they were not needed as the place was fairly empty for the holiday. Our prix fixe menu was exceptionally good. I’m not usually a fan of turkey but the herb marinated turkey breast was delicious. The service was also excellent and they had a great doggy menu as well - all in all, they took great care of us (and our dog!). Definitely plan to come by again for some of their more standard fare.
We hosted our wedding reception at The Cavalier and Marianne’s, and it’s hard to put into words just how exceptional the experience was. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations — and our friends and family are still raving about it. We were longtime fans of The Cavalier before ever getting engaged, so when it came time to choose a reception venue, it was truly a no-brainer. Incredible food and drinks, exceptional service, and a warm, vibrant atmosphere were at the top of our list — and The Cavalier delivered on every front. The dinner reception was intimate, elevated, and absolutely delicious. The team set up the space beautifully, striking the perfect balance between classic elegance and cozy charm. We also had our cocktail hour and post-dinner celebration at Marianne’s, which was the coolest vibe. It felt like the perfect transition from dinner to dancing — effortlessly stylish, a little bit moody, and just so much fun. It was the kind of space that made everyone want to stay all night (and we basically did). A special shoutout to Hope, the events coordinator, who was incredible throughout the planning process. She worked closely with us and our wedding coordinator to make sure every detail was nailed down — from timeline and layout to menu selections and flow. Her communication and warmth made everything feel smooth and stress-free. If you’re looking for a unique, elevated, and genuinely memorable venue in San Francisco with standout food, great cocktails, and impeccable service, we can’t recommend The Cavalier and Marianne’s highly enough. Hosting our wedding here was one of the best decisions we made, and we’ll always be grateful for the experience.
So, I am in San Francisco for a couple of days for work. After a long day, a colleague says her partner says we should go to The Cavalier for...English food? Well, I'm game for just about anything. We get there and the feel is sophisticated, but not overly so. A real adult feel for people that want good food, good conversation, on a good place. On all three The Cavalier delivers. Enjoy!
We had a fabulous, comfortable meal. It included steak tartar, a plum and raising salad, a scallop and mussels entre and a lamb entry. The dishes were orepared with impeccable care.
We hadn't been to the Cavalier since 2019. Last night's dinner was phenomenal. Quite possibly the best pork chop I have ever had. Great service and amazing food! We can't wait to go back.
I only have one negative comment regarding my dinner here. But I’ll get to that in a minute. The moment we were walked in we were received even though all servers were busy. The recognition gifted us patience and shortly after we were shown to a very comfortable table. Much more generous and homey than expected. The atmosphere was top notch. From the interesting decor, comfy seating, romantic lighting, and friendly/kind servers. The drinks we ordered were nice. I highly recommend the servers recommendation, the drink with jalapeños. Our first course, the garden salad/mixed salad with avocado would have been phenomenal if it had a little less salt. Otherwise even the dressing tasted homemade and was just lovely. The main, we both had fish, was nothing to complain about. If your just visiting or looking for a new place to take a spouse or loved one I definitely recommend this spot!! Thank you for having us!
Came in to try the Fish and Chips, which I really enjoyed, but the Scotch egg really stole the show. Christopher, Lorenzo, and Windi were all awesome.
Excellent place in San Francisco. Nice setting, nice atmosphere, very nice waitress Aïcha… and excellent good… demi gastronomic at a very good rate.
Sweet restaurant. Welcome is professional and fast. The food is very good. I recommend heirloom beet salad when you test the mix of creativity and flat bottom grilled scallops plus Angus's naked eye, when carrots meet mushrooms in a beautiful meeting.
Romantic, intimate location with style. Amazing, customer oriented service. We walked in on Thursday evening, with a reservation and we’ve got seated right away. The waiter approached us immediately with water and ready to answer any qs we might have. Great collection of unique cocktails 🍸 well done too! And the food... just amazing! The main dishes had a good size and were super delicious! My husband absolutely loved his pan seared scallops ♥️
Who the heck knew the Cavalier had a dope breakfast menu?! We found ourselves downtown early in the morning and the restaurant we thought was opened was actually closed so we were looking for a last minute place to eat and we noticed the Cavalier was opened so we went in. Prices are to be expected for a restaurant attached to a hotel so there's that but it was more than worth it. Service was spot on and the food.. .Wow. Just didn't expect it. I usually come here for drinks and bites after work and I know that's always amazing, but yeah. If you ever need a quick breakfast and you're downtown and lost go to the Cavalier. For real
This is a hidden gem that makes you want to return again and again. Tonight’s meal was very sincere, with rich flavors that weren't overwhelming; the chef has clearly worked hard on the recipes. The ambiance is stylish yet warm. Service-wise, it was textbook—attentive and quick. The portions are very large, ensuring you leave completely full. It’s great to see the quality getting better and better. Whether for the taste or the environment, it’s worth a special trip. Highly recommended!
Exceptional experience all around for our party of four. Start with the Smoke Deviled Eggs, they are incomparable; just make sure you get everything with a bite for the full experience. The Brussels Sprout Chips remind me of the former Longbranch Saloon in Berkeley. Delicious, a little difficult to eat with a fork. I had the Marlowe Burger, and it was excellent all around. (A shareable burger is also on the menu.) The Pork Tenderloin is exceptional. The Fries are unparalleled. Service is warm and friendly, matching the warm interior. Give yourself 90 minutes to enjoy the experience. We’ll be back.
This place still slaps :) We got seated at a table near the door with no reservation after waiting at the bar for a little bit. The Tea Leaf salad and coconut rice were AMAZING. The Shrimp curry pretty good too! I'm impressed they have kept this standard of service and food over time.
Burma Love in the Mission District is the perfect sister spot to the longtime neighborhood favorite, Burma Superstar. It carries the same magic — those bold, comforting Burmese flavors — but in a fresh, modern setting. We ordered the eggplant and daikon, fried rice, and mango chicken, and every dish was bursting with flavor and perfectly balanced. You can taste the care in the spices and textures — nothing feels heavy, just deeply satisfying. The drinks were also a highlight — strong, tasty, and thoughtfully mixed. The space itself has a moody, intimate vibe with dim lighting and warm tones that make it feel both stylish and inviting. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Burma Superstar or new to Burmese cuisine, Burma Love is absolutely worth the visit. 🌶️🍚🍸
Really excellent service to compliment the incredible food. I messed up and accidentally made a reservation online for 2 instead of 4 which I didn’t realize until we had arrived. The place was absolutely packed but the hostess didn’t bat an eye, gave a big smile, and said they’d make it work. We grabbed a drink at the bar and somehow they were able to seat us within 10 min or so. Our waitress was helpful with recommendations and every dish was amazing. Definitely get the tea leaf salad and the garlic eggplant!
I went here for a birthday dinner and it was a great pick! It was a little fancier than I anticipated, but I think that made it nice. I recommend making a reservation or at least getting on the waitlist since there is a bit of a wait. There are clean bathrooms, and the ambiance is really nice. The bar area is huge and well decorated, but we sat at the booth section. i really enjoyed the service, our waiters were efficient and fun. They really made sure to keep things going. The food also came out super duper fast! We got the shan noodles, which they mixed up for us table side. I did also like their sparkling water. I would come here again for another special day, but I might also try their other sister locations.
Did a walk in for dinner with a group of 4 and the wait was about 15 minutes or so, we grabbed a drink at the bar as we waited for our table. The host Daniella was so great with helping us out and helping us with a subtle surprise for the birthday boy in the group. Food was delicious. I would recommend the garlic noodles and the shaan noodles with your protein of choice. And the paratha was delicious chewy and fluffy dipped in the vegetarian curry wow. Ambiance was dark and cozy. Would definitely be back, Cheers!
We had the chicken platha and dip, two cocktails, pork belly with mustard greens, and chicken kebat. Everything tasted really good, and the cocktails offered were unique and went well with the food. I wish we had gotten more of the chicken dip in the platha dish but two entrees and an appetizer was tilll way too much food for two people. Atmosphere is also great, we sat at the bar.
Excellent Burmese restaurant. Perfect for dates or group gatherings. Most of the food is excellent. The atmosphere is upscale without being overly formal. There is a dedicated bar and a separate dining area. Pricing (Medium-High) - This restaurant leans a bit more expensive (+$25 per plate), but the quality of the food is generally high. Wait Times (Modest) - This place gets quite busy, but lately the wait has been modest (5-15 minutes). I don’t think they do reservations, but you probably don’t need one anyways unless you have a large group. Appetizers - I personally enjoy the famous tea leaf salad and the spicy chicken wings. The calamari is also perfectly fried. The other salads are also good choices, but the tea leaf salad is outstanding. Entrees (Beef, Vegetarian) - I will generally recommend the burmese curries and the other beef dishes. All of the beef dishes here have been good. We clean these plates every time. The vegetarian dishes are also great. I really like their Garlic Eggplant dish. Entrees (Do not get Chicken) - I would recommend against most of the chicken dishes (spicy and crunchy chicken, mango chicken, mint chicken etc). The chicken dishes are okay, but not impressive. I have tried these multiple times and they are usually disappointing. The spicy and crunchy chicken is probably the best one, but that dish is deep fried and very heavy. Overall solid choice for dates, dinner parties or special occasions. High quality food at an acceptable price. Upscale location.
This Burmese restaurant offers delicious food and excellent service. From the time you enter, untill you leave, they take care of you and provide a quick friendly and professional service. We tried the tea leaf salad which was great, and the Burmese love which was also super tasty. The portions are quite big, so they can be shared. The atmosphere is also very nice and has good vibes. We definitely recommend this place to anyone who is in San Francisco, even for a day.
Been to Burma Superstar before (which is a must in the bay area) but first time visit to Burma Love. Like the clean atmosphere, neat arrangement of the liquor bottles at the bar. Not overtly bright which is good. Service was very good, and the food was excellent. Drinks are inventive and delicious. Definitely recommend, if only to try the tea leaf salad, but everything was delicious and there were many more dishes that sound very enticing that I did not get the chance to try. Highly recommended.
In LOVE with Burma Love! There’s a reason this restaurant has expanded to several locations and with more casual (Burma Superstar) and more upscale (Teakwood) versions of the menu. It’s consistently one of my favorite places in SF, with a unique and authentic Burmese menu. If you haven’t tried Burmese food before, I’ve heard it described as a fusion between Thai and Chinese — which I think fits great. The menu is full of curries, noodles, and stir fries, with varying levels of spice. The entrees can get a bit pricey, but it’s clear that the cost is covering high quality ingredients. Favorites from the menu include the chicken curry soup (think a Burmese twist on the classic American soup), the Burmese curry with beef (not too spicy but still full of flavor), and the Eggplant (probably our number one — garlicky, sweet, with a great texture and mouthfeel). The rice is also surprisingly flavorful (opt for the coconut version, as the sweet nuttiness of the coconut milk really adds - unique dimension to the meal). Just be prepared to order it as a side — rice doesn’t come with most of the entrees. The cocktails are a bit underwhelming for the price, but the wine selection is lovely and pairs surprisingly well with the rich dishes. Reservations online are recommended, but they also accept walk-ins — we called two hours before and were able to get a weekday reservation for three, though the restaurant was still completely packed when we got there! This place is clearly a local favorite and one worth coming back to again and again.

No one sways tea based recipe like they do. Food lovers must try their tea leaves based appetizer. Even their desserts are yummy.

We stayed at the Pickwick Hotel and wanted to find a sophisticated place to take my husband to celebrate him. We came early so to go to a show and we ordered dinner and dessert. I enjoyed my scallops but it was more salty than expected. For the price it was a tad on the expensive side but it was a special occasion and the waitstaff were attentive at taking our plates. No bread, no small talk, the highlight is the food. The art work was hunting English men on horse and plaid.
Wow! What a nice place. I meant to give higher stars, but we went on the wrong night. The whole bar was reserved for a private party and we didn't have reservations, sniff. So the Cavalier isn't really a drop in place, unless you sit in the bar area. It was beautiful, cozy and warm inside. We will try again!!
Very good restaurant with wonderful service The food and service here are excellent. The wait staff is attentive, friendly, and professional. We consistently end up ordering the same dishes — tea leaf salad, string beans, coconut rice, and the superstar vegetarian noodles — because these are the healthier, well-balanced options. Many of the other menu items tend to be either deep-fried , salty or overly sweet. These dishes are reliably fresh, flavorful, and satisfying, and the service makes the experience consistently enjoyable.
Burma Love is cute inside. We had reservations and walked in with 0 wait. The menu was so cute, it started off with a map of Burma and a quick history. This was a sweet touch. Menu was fantastic, and food was delicious. Lots of people filled into the tables. Trendy place for delicious food and drinks. Fresh Young Coconut water - adorable!! Tip: they cut open the coconut after you are done and you can eat the coconut meat :) Ginger Lemonade - delicious! 22 ingredient Rainbow Salad Paratha & Dip - outstanding flavors Burmese Style Eggplant Red Curry
A novel and interesting spot, beautifully decorated and nestled in the mission district of SF. Would highly recommend the tea leaf salad, unlike anything you've ever had before, unless you've dined on the mountains of Asia. The wok tossed dishes were flavorful but less impressive. Get the salad, add entrees to round out the meal. Well worth the visit.
We went to see what the hype was about. We had the famed tea leaf salad, catfish soup and mint chicken. While service and ambiance were great the food was so-so. It was also quite pricey but dish sizes were substantial so overall it was reasonable for the area. We did not find the food really flavorful like we usually do with the Thai cuisine that we typically opt for - perhaps the Burmese cuisine is just not for us. For spicy food lovers please ask for spices on the side as the food is not spicy at all
The place very spacious for big groups.. we had a big group of 14 people that sat right behind us. The food was delicious! Specially the ginger and chili pork belly. It was very noisy at the end of the day but overall ambience is nice. The servers were very friendly but kept forgetting to bring our request such as napkin or water.
Awesome tasting Burmese food here in SFO! Service is on point and the ambiance is really inviting and loved the drinks here!. Why 4 stars then? You may ask. Well, the food was good but not great at some levels . Loved the chicken curry with potatoes, so comforting and juicy and really enjoyed it . And I really get what the hype about tea leaf salad was: it was a refreshing and very energizing salad with so many textures but with simple ingredients . However, the spicy noodles did not really impress us and the mint chicken was okay, it had some bland textures and not an interesting element to it. Would have tasted more interesting with some kind of crispy veggies or peanuts to it to add to the taste . You can mix the tea leaf salad and the mint chicken to get the right texture and taste levels, if you are picky like me ;) and the parking was a bit of a turn off as we wasted quite some time trying to find parking but that is not the restaurant’s fault and we found this parking garage nearby . Overall, worth the visit for the drinks and tea leaf salad !
Good ambience, good Burmese food. Their tea leaf salad, and tofu veggie dishes are rock solid. Their chicken dishes could use more work though, but I’d def come back for their tea leaf and tofu dishes. Would recommend overall! It gets quite busy during the evenings, so I’d recommend reserving ahead of time.

We visited with a large group and were seated in a private dining room. The room's decor was impressive, resembling a cave, though it was a bit too dark for my taste. A bar setup in the room ensured attentive service. The meal was a set menu, and I opted for the salmon as my main course. While it was perfectly cooked, it lacked flavor. The crispy Brussels sprout chips were excellent, especially when paired with alcoholic drinks. The deviled egg, topped with a small piece of jalapeño and bacon, was unremarkable and not spicy. The wine selection was excellent. If you visit the bar, I recommend the chicken nuggets, which pair well with scotch. The main entrance bar was beautifully decorated and spacious. It’s worth a visit, but the food didn't particularly impress me tonight.
Nicely decorated British style nice restaurant. A little noisy but we liked it. There was a strange taste in dressing of Caesar Salad but in overall we are happy Thank you for the nice evening
Appetizer was good but the main dish was really disappointing, from the food to the presentation. It looks like a take away dish from some Mediterranean restaurant not a $45 rack of lamb dish I would expect from an English restaurant. Drinks were good too. Overall I would not come back for dinner but maybe cocktails. Btw the bill was for 2 ppl and we only got 1 entree.
Burma Love has some standout dishes — the Tea Leaf Salad and the Garlic Noodles are definitely worth trying. The flavors are bold, unique, and overall the food quality is solid. The space itself is stylish and lively, great for a casual night out or a fun dinner with friends. That said, the experience felt a bit inconsistent. Service was friendly but slow, and a few of our dishes came out lukewarm or with a long wait between them. It also felt a bit pricey for the portion sizes. Not a bad spot by any means — just didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. I'd come back for specific dishes, but probably wouldn’t go out of my way.
The food was decent but surprisingly overpriced for what you get. I'm actually huge fan of Burmese food so was sad that the closest one to me wasn't really worth the price.

We told the restaurant it was our friend’s birthday, expecting at least a small dessert or some kind of gesture. Instead, they brought out an empty plate with a single candle stuck in the middle. No cake, no treat — just a candle on a bare plate. It honestly felt lazy and disrespectful. If that’s how they handle special occasions, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking to celebrate anything.
