The vibes, view, and food are amazing here. The music was also really good. I truly enjoyed was the setup of the place, more formal sitting on one side with a lounge soft seating on the other side, with the bar in the middle. Def a must go if you’re in the city!
We love having appetizers for dinner at Kaiyo Rooftop! The City view is amazing and the food is unmatched! They have lots of heaters to keep you comfortable on chilly evenings and seats are cozy and comfortable. They can accommodate large parties. The service takes care of your every need! They book quickly so reservations are recommended. Enjoy!
I came here to catch up with a friend and it was a great choice. Despite the chilly weather, the rooftop is equipped with plenty of heaters to make the open environment comfortable. We enjoyed our drinks and lite bites while talking for a few hours. From the host at the entrance on the ground floor, the hostess at the tope of the elevator, our waitress, and who I believe to be the manager checking on us periodically, the service was excellent. Not to mention the sunset views and skyline in the twilight were a great backdrop throughout the restaurant.
Giovanna was our waitress, and she was great. She was very straightforward and so were we I told her what I wanted. She accommodated it and made it a special night. Great views above the city. Great sushi. Good drinks, nice heat lamps turned on on a cold night in December early January. We really liked our meal and drinks here. It was on the San Francisco 49er game night, so there was some fans in the building. But all in all not a bad place. Thanks again. Hyatt for having such a good restaurant and bar on top
Went here for my 35th birthday last night, food was great. The weather was bad so we had to eat inside, but the views of the city was nice. My lady who's vegan enjoyed her food as well. Drinks were 🔥🔥 too.
Food here is amazing. I loved the oysters and the Red Dragon roll. The other roll we got, the Loma roll, is a cold steak roll, not the biggest fan of that one. Wagyu sliders appetizers were great, very tender and juicy. The drinks were some of the best I had. We got a second round of drinks as well, we loved them so much. We ended our meal with the Mac and cheese and these people know how to make good Mac! The cheese had a crispy crust and the Mac was fusilli pasta, some of the best Mac I’ve ever had! At first it was a bit windy being so high up, but the heat lamps helped and the staff even brought us blankets. Worth the view alone! That all being said, the prices are definitely up there, so don’t come here expecting to save.
4.5 stars overall, rounded up to 5! Started with fries, pulpo, and mushroom. All amazing. Fries were cooked well and lightly seasoned, mushrooms were sauteed in a delicious sauce, and the pulpo was still soft with nice char, and slightly spicy. Also tried the matcha pesto fettuccine and spicy scallop udon. I wasn't too impressed with the matcha pesto. I didn't taste much of the matcha but my dinner companions did. Even just as a regular pesto dish, I thought it was bland. The udon noodles were cooked to perfection and gave that qq feel but I again thought the sauce was missing something. There was a good amount of heat but not much of anything else. Presentation for both dishes were great though. Also shared the short rib dish. Def the star of the night. Delicious with corn riblets and smaller veggies in the sauce. Def would order again. Had the matcha smore and guava creme brulee for dessert. Both were super tasty and would also order both again. Smore dish was super rich and the creme brulee was light and refreshing! Def get both of you go. Service was quick and friendly too! Loved the decor of the restaurant and we also went up to their rooftop bar for a quick photo session. Amazing views of the city!
Such a great rooftop in SF. Located really close to the giants stadium and bay bridge so it’s really a gorgeous view, especially at night. The food was great and drinks were tasty. Make sure to bring a jacket or layer. They do have heating lamps but it still gets a little chilly. This place is on the pricier side but you pay for the view.
Beautiful location and a great spot for date night! Appreciated that they had a handful of vegan options to choose from. I liked the caterpillar roll but felt it could use a bit more flavor and same thing with the plantain chips with edamame dip. The yucca fries come with a cheese type dip I believe so we got some ketchup to make it vegan. Staff were kind and attentive but service was slower than anticipated due to the Valentine’s Day weekend. We really appreciated that our waiter didn’t charge us for one of the items we ordered that somehow got missed and we ended up having to wait a while for. Would definitely be back another time!
Great downtown views, but make sure to reserve ahead. We walked in on a Friday night and still had difficulty getting seated, despite seeing available tables and arriving well before the next reservation block. I regretted ordering the Pisco Sour. The egg aroma was too strong, and I couldn’t enjoy taking a sip..
everything you expect from a japanese peruvian rooftop bar is at kaiyo. went in with semi-low expectations but the food pleasantly surprised me. nice vibes on a warm evening and they even provide blankets. corn ribs: must try! the fad snack of the times but kaiyo’s might have perfected it yucca fries: decent but forgettable wagyu sliders: solid dish and pretty filling
The vibe at Kaiyo Rooftop is definitely cool and lively, with great energy and a younger crowd. I had reservations, which helped since it was super crowded. Drinks were just okay—lots of ice, which isn’t to my liking. It was very windy and cold during my visit, but they did offer blankets and have ceiling heaters, which made it more comfortable. We were seated in a table but opt to transfer to a bar since the table was too open and windy. Bar provides a bit of warmth. I didn’t get to try the food since we had dinner downstairs at the restaurant, but the rooftop is worth it if you’re looking for a fun, social atmosphere.
The KAIYŌ Rooftop, situated on the twelfth floor of the Hyatt Place Hotel in the SOMA district, offers a convenient location adjacent to the San Francisco Giants stadium, near Chase Center (home of the Golden State Warriors), and a short distance from the Moscone Convention Center. This upscale bar boasts a tropical theme and serves a delightful selection of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, along with creative cocktails. While the hostess provided friendly and accommodating service, our server's approach was, somewhat surprisingly, methodical and lacked engagement. The rooftop features open areas with glass partitions and overhead heaters for warmth. The sushi was exceptional, and the drinks were enjoyable.
The Kaiyo Roll was delicious. Poko’s drink was good but mostly filled with ice, which was disappointing. Cobra’s drink was really good as well, but it was surprisingly small. The yucca fries were pretty good, though the sauce was bland and could use more flavor. The Japanese crispy shrimp, on the other hand, was excellent—I highly recommend it. We ordered the ceviche trio with shrimp, tuna, and the classic. While the ceviche itself was great, the portions were tiny—each sampler only had a few bites, which didn’t feel worth the $40 price tag. Service was a bit slow. Our server disappeared for a while, and it seemed like the managers had to step in to help. The prices are also quite high for the portion sizes, especially considering how much ice they use in their drinks. That said, it’s still a great spot for a fun girls’ night out or a date. The views are spectacular, and the heaters over each table ensure you stay warm, even on chilly nights. It might be worth mentioning that the bathroom is not on this floor. Its actually a pretty long distance and confusing getting there so try to go prior to coming here
Update: the espresso martini here is still the one of the best versions we have found in SF. Unfortunately the food this time was not that impressive, but not bad. We were very surprised that many of the dishes we tried to order had run out by prime dinner time on a Sunday night! We ended up having things that were mostly elevated bar food instead of the Peruvian/Nikkei cuisine we were hoping for.
Came here for their (200lb) Tuna Carving Show in June and their toro was okay! quite good on the fatty tuna but else they kinda smell fishy. Had an okay rooftop experience overall but probably won’t come twice to the event, I’ll still come back for drinks though since they are the best. seatings are super limited which is a downside. don’t forget to bring your jacket since rooftop could be pretty good windy!
This place is mainly worth coming for the vibes; but I don’t think the value for the food and drinks are worth it. It’s a beautiful and upscale environment - being positioned on a rooftop with 360 views of the city. On a beautiful day - it’s the perfect place to be - but fair warning if windy or after sunset - it gets really cold, but they have blankets available if needed to try and warm up. The drinks with tax and tip ended up being about $25 per cocktail, which feels extremely expensive even for San Francisco. The sushi was okay, and the food was decent. I also felt like the service was average. They have this exclusive energy about them - and coming here spontaneously for bar seating - I was treated rudely by the hostess. I highly recommend getting a reservation so you don’t have to deal with the energy of feeling denied as they are not even willing to have a conversation about a table in the restaurant without one.
Came here for dinner. And service was terrible Was fortunate enough to get a table by just walking in. After being seated I ordered one of their signature sushi rolls and fries. Took about 15 minutes for fries and over an hour for my sushi. End of the night I was just gonna walk out and go somewhere else but by coincidence my sushi came out. They were busy but I'm by myself and ordered simple items. Came here for the sunset night view of the cityscape. I recommend calling ahead for this view since there is only a few tables facing the cityscape. Probably won't come back again
The city views are overrated; too many downtown high rise bars and restaurants have far superior/unobstructed views. Food was decent: sushi was solid, the vegetarian rolls were absolutely delicious. Same goes for their basic salad and the miso cod plate. The flan was flavorless; I believe they skimp on the eggs and use food coloring and gelatin instead. It was bland and embarrassingly so; every S. American restaurant that offers this dessert prepares it as “leche flan”; sometimes they use cream cheese but the end product is almost always decadent & delicious. A bit frustrating that they don’t offer a regular dinner menu like their downstairs dining room. Also their restrooms weren’t well maintained/cleaned; very unpleasant situation. Service is very slow; not sure this place is worth the drive from other parts of town.
