Had lunch today at La Mar and absolutely loved it. I already knew and enjoyed back when I lived in Miami, so coming to this San Francisco location felt extra special. In fact, I first visited this exact spot about 15 years ago with my family and I’m happy to say it’s still just as good. This time I came with my husband and everything we ate was delicious. We were able to sit outside despite the cold thanks to the heaters, which made it really comfortable. The only downside was our server, who wasn’t our favorite, but everything else was honestly 10/10. Food, atmosphere, and overall experience were excellent.
Peruvian food is rapidly becoming one of my favorite types of cuisine. La Mar is a delicious restaurant with great food options to choose from. We dined here for my birthday lunch and enjoyed o great meal with lots of flavorful ceviche. The restaurant sits right on the water next to the ferry building in SF, so you have great views of the water and boats sailing by as you eat. I’d love to come back soon to try more of their menu options.
Wonderful experience at La Mar. Highlight for me was the tiradito, we ordered the special which was a whole Dungeness crab, and it was a spectacle to look at and more so to eat. The classic ceviche was also super refreshing. Tbh the lobster and steak was a tad disappointing as the steak was too hard and chewy, but not so much as to ruin the meal. The lobster outshined the steak by far, the meat tasted naturally sweet and plump. The pulpo was a bit on the salty side, but a pleasure to eat too. I would love to come here again and focus my attention on the raw side of the menu.
Celebrated my son and his best friend’s 18th birthday at La Mar last night. It was the perfect spot for this milestone celebration! The atmosphere is festive and buzzing with fun (we sat inside, but the patio looked to be enclosed and heated), the service is great and the food is exceptional! The “tastings” were a great way to experience the array of food on the menu - and all served family style. Our favorite was the tuna ceviche. We probably would not order the paella again - light on crab. Look forward to returning!
If you've never tried Peruvian food or drinks, the first thing that might come to your mind when you hear "Peru" is probably Machu Picchu or llamas. However, I guarantee that perception will change after you visit La Mar, especially if you try their Pisco Sour. Just a warning: if you have more than three of these delicious cocktails, you might forget your address! If you're visiting for the first time, it's a good idea to order as many small plates as possible to sample a broader range of tastes. Be sure to try a couple of ceviches or empanadas (the sampler is a great option). The salads are fantastic as well, especially anything with quinoa in it! If, after trying a few small plates, you still have room (which is unlikely), consider ordering any of the fish dishes for your main course. For dessert, ask about the specials; there is always something good on the menu for the day. Don't underestimate the quality of their coffee either! I'm not sure where they source the beans from, but the coffee smells and tastes amazing. The service is excellent. Every time I have visited, I have received great service. The servers are always knowledgeable and helpful if you have questions about the menu. And the view! If you make a reservation and it's a nice day, I recommend sitting on the back porch, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the bay.
La Mar is an experience. Very vegetarian friendly and staff were super helpful The atmosphere is beautiful with the view of the bay and the food keeps up with it. It is a little pricy but totally worth it for the experience. I’ve been twice now and will continue to visit
A Peruvian Gem on the San Francisco Bay La Mar is truly spectacular. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional — Elyssa, our server, went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience. She was attentive, friendly, and offered great recommendations throughout our meal. The food was absolutely delicious, with authentic Peruvian flavors and beautiful presentation. Every dish we tried exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for both a relaxed lunch and a special evening out. The location right by the Bay makes it even more unique — the views are stunning and add so much to the overall experience. La Mar is a place I can’t wait to come back to, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for outstanding food, excellent service, and a gorgeous setting in San Francisco.
My wife and me, had always wanted to go to La Mar. Due to unforeseen circumstances, our flight was rescheduled, and we ended up spending a day in San Francisco. A reservation at La Mar was a must, and everything was amazing. Just arriving, having a drink at the bar with the calamari light, going to our table, and seeing the kitchen was priceless. The startup was the Cebiche El Quemado, with a subtle flavor of charred eggplant; the quinoa caprese salad transported us to Andean Peru; and the black cod with corn was a dish you simply cannot miss. We paired it with a Lulunta Catena Zapata Malbec to continue our South American culinary journey. Completely satisfied, we ordered coffee, and the waiter suggested we try the tres leches cake, which was indeed delicious. Thank you, Gastón, for this wonderful experience.
La Mar Cocina Peruana is an outstanding spot in San Francisco. Amazing service and even better food made for a truly delightful and romantic dinner. The service is impeccable—attentive, warm, and perfectly timed. Every dish showcases authentic Peruvian flavors, beautifully prepared and full of character. The pier location adds to the experience with a wonderful atmosphere and views. We loved it and will definitely be back. 🇵🇪✨
I loved this place! Atmosphere was nice and friendly. If there is no boat in front of the restaurant, outdoor is very charming. We had an executive lunch and ceviche tasting with good cocktails. They have a great ceviche selection and mindblowing octopus! Only the desert could have been better to equal the quality of the menu. Service was so good and attentive from the moment we arrived. A special thanks to Giovanni for everything and made us feel at home with his sincerity.
This place never disappoints. The food, the staff, the location, and the vibe makes it a wonderful place to share a meal with friends and visitors. Two standouts the other night. First was a spectacular California spiny lobster device special. Not cheap and worth every penny. The second was our server Willie who was engaging, knowledgeable, and gave just the right amount of attention. Can't recommend this place enough.
It's is a bit loud vibrant restaurant with excellent food and service. The restaurant throbs with vitality. It's not just the drinks or the food, but it's also the atmosphere. It's one of those places where you being the most stifling company and end up sharing delicious family style food. We came here for a company dinner and kind you, my colleagues are anything but stifling. They are lively bunch, and we believe we added to the atmosphere. Cheers to good place that service food vibes and food. Even to corporate crowds.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ We had a great experience at La Mar in San Francisco! The restaurant is clean, stylish, and has a fancy yet comfortable atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive from the moment we arrived. We visited between lunch and dinner, so the full menu wasn’t available at that time. However, we were still able to order two dishes and drinks, and everything we had was fresh and flavorful. Around 5 PM, the kitchen reopened with the full menu, and we were able to enjoy dessert, which was absolutely delicious. The waterfront location also adds to the charm—perfect for a relaxing meal with a view. We highly recommend visiting during regular lunch or dinner hours to get the full menu experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in San Francisco and looking for high-quality Peruvian cuisine!
This place is absolutely fantastic. Fresh seafood with beautiful water views, and the staff actually knows what they're talking about. We were first-timers and initially got seated away from the water, but when we asked if we could move closer, they made it happen right away without any fuss. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and provided thoughtful, well-informed recommendations that clearly came from genuine expertise. The salmon belly and traditional ceviche were our favorites from everything we tried. The cocktails were equally impressive. This is what waterfront dining should be—not just a nice view with mediocre food, but the whole package done right. We're already planning our next visit. Highly recommended.
I cannot say enough amazing things about La Mar. Everything about the setting, service and food is perfect. We were lucky enough to have our small wedding ceremony and reception lunch in the City Room. Velvet, our events manager, was so kind and communicative throughout the entire process, and helped us build out the intimate event of our dreams! We've also had the pleasure of dining at La Mar on our own and have had wonderful experiences. The restaurant has several unique sections to meet the vibe you're looking for, and my favorite is the patio overlooking the water. It's so special to enjoy great food with a beautiful view of the bay. The cocktails, appetizers, entrees, and desserts are all incredible - whether you are looking for a nice meal out, cool bar, or even a special event...La Mar is the best!
Simply a MUST when visiting San Francisco. All of the ceviches are delightful! Honestly the entire menu is fantastic. I’ve tried many of the dishes and have never been disappointed. The fried platter is probably my least favorite menu item and it is delicious! You cannot go wrong at La Mar if you are a seafood lover. The cocktails and service are exquisite as well. Highly recommend!

Nice location and outdoor setting. Could enjoy the lovely weather minus the wind! We had the 4 course taster menu which I highly recommend. Great fusion of flavours and well worth the price!
We had a great visit to La Mar. The space is beautiful and very spacious, and we were seated right by the window inside the tent with a nice view of the water. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We ordered the Clásico ceviche, which came with catch of the day in a classic leche de tigre with choclo, habanero, and sweet potatoes. It was fresh, bright, and flavorful. We also had a tasting of four empanadas (two chicken, one mushroom, one beef), and it was nice that we could mix and match. For mains, the Lomo Saltado was solid, but the Tacu Tacu tasted bland and was just ok. The Pescado Enchichado leaned sweet but was cooked better than expected. The Black Cod Criollo was dry and a bit bland compared to everything else we had. We also tried the guava juice. It was a bit sour. Overall, good food, great service, and a relaxing waterfront ambiance. I would come back but would try different mains next time.
It's been over 8 years since I had been to the La Mar in Lima. Surprisingly I had never been to the one here. When the weather was warmer, we went on a walk along the Embarcadero, and stopped in for happy hour, because $10 drinks sounded like a good deal. $10 Chicha Punch pretty good! crisp, tangy, and refreshing $10 Chilcano Classico - grapefruit & lemon, cuatro gallos pisco, acholado mommenpop blood orange aperitif , ginger, carbonation good! citrussy and gingery $19 Cebiche Clasico - leche de tigre, red onion, habanero, corn, sweet potatoes good! silky, tangy large cubes of white fish. It'd be nice if the sweet potatoes were cut smaller, so it'd be easier to share. $11 Chifle de Plantano - plantain chips with avocado sauce honestly we just got this to snack on with the drinks Service was pretty quick, which I would expect for Tuesday around 5:30 pm, since the restaurant wasn't busy. I'd come back for casual drinks and snacks.
So our server resembled the guy working behind a McDonalds register… but I would be offending a McDonalds employee. You know those servers that hide behind a restaurants amazing food and pricey menu… that was our server. BUT I would come back time and time again because of the food. It was absolutely amazing, high end Peruvian fusion, every dish was perfection, the drinks were ridiculous… the ambiance, it would have been 5 stars if it wasn’t for this guy lol… better luck next time I guess. We will be back.
This spot had been on my list for a while — and overall, it didn’t disappoint. The decor is stunning, and while you don’t get direct water views, it’s right by the bay so you can enjoy a nice post-meal walk. Drinks were just okay taste-wise, but beautifully presented. The food was solid, and the service was warm and friendly throughout. Only downside? The parking. It’s a headache and definitely made the experience a bit less smooth. I’d come back, but probably not during peak hours.

Food was amazing however the service has room to improve: 1. We were one of the few who arrived at restaurant open and we made reservation ahead of time, we would want patio outdoor seating. The waitress led us to a table as far as possible from water front, and told us that that was our table. Meanwhile at least ten group of other guests got seated as close as they could get to water front. Waitress didn’t ask us about preference or anything, I feel we got judged based on our appearance. 2. Through out the two hour dinning, our waiter never ever spared us a smile, even under the circumstances that our baby tried very hard to stare and smile at him multiple times. He got this attitude like it was our honor to be served by him. In the end we leave him 18% tip (because we were not so happy), he even greeted us goodbye with a strict face. We were happy with all other people in the restaurant, especially one lady who helped clean our table, she smiled a lot. Of course service doesn’t have a perfect measurement, but as customers, we did feel we deserved to be treated better.
The service was great as the waiter was very attentive and checked in with us. He notice right away that rice was not served with my dish and brought it out right away. However the food is mediocre. …

We had high expectations for La Mar in San Francisco, but our experience was deeply disappointing. The service was inattentive and overwhelmed due to two company events and several large parties. It took 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us and another 10 for them to bring water. We were a party of three, spending over $430 on food, a glass of wine, and a cocktail — yet the experience felt far from premium. We ordered the Tomahawk steak ($190), which came out fatty, burnt on the outside, and almost inedible. We left lot of pieces on the plate, because it was pure fat. We love Tomahawks but this one was by far the worse we have ever had. We were celebrating my mom’s birthday and at least she liked what she ordered. The only positive thing I have to say is that they sat us at a nice table by the water. The bathrooms were constantly full. In over two hours, we weren’t able to use them because of the overwhelming crowd. For the price point and reputation, we expected exceptional service and quality. Instead, we left feeling ignored and disappointed. Definitely not the experience we hoped for.

San Francisco's La Mar: Where Cebiche Shines Bright
There’s always that one spot in a bustling city that whispers “tourist trap” the moment you hear its name. For some, La Mar Cebicheria Peruana in San Francisco might initially fall into that category. But let me tell you, it’s worth pushing past that first impression, especially if you’re a fan of vibrant Peruvian flavors.I’ve heard the tales from friends who were initially skeptical, only to be pleasantly surprised. One even confessed they only went after a partner’s positive work outing. Wh
