Singapore is about 85 miles from the equator. Just think about that while you are eating the curry noodles, Mie-tek-tek, or Nasi Goreng. It looks like you’re going into a basement because you kind of are. Don’t worry, there are windows. And a baby changing station in the restroom. And they have Martabak. What more could you want?
Now that COVID restrictions are lifting a little, we wanted to try this local neighborhood restaurant. We usually go to the Clement one, but was pleasantly surprised. The staff, setting, and of course the food was terrific. I highly recommend the Singaporean noodles and the Roti bread wrap called “Martabak”. Need to make sure you ask for more sauce as our party was fighting for it :)
DELICIOUS!! All food are savory and delicious. If you are upto some spicy seafood, try their BLACK PEPPER CRAB or CRAB PADANG SAUCE. Its to die for.....handsdown 🙌🙌🙌 UPDATE!! Just went there 6/9/22 Food still great. Im glad that they survived the pandemic turmoil when many restaurants are out of business in SF. We ordered Crab saus Padang (again!!), fried rice, Martabak, and also Kwee tiauw. Yumyumm….
I love the salmon in banana leaf. Full of flavor, filling, and healthy!
My go-to for Singaporean curry noodles and beef rendang! Tasty corn fritters and Hainan chicken rice too. Haven’t tasted the other dishes because I just can’t stop ordering my faves :)
Have had the roti paratha multiple times and love it. Today came in just as they were closing and they were so nice and allowed us to do take out. Appreciate the warmth and delicious food! So yummy and flaky goodness.
Menu much more limited than the one in the Richmond but just as tasty. As others have mentioned the curry sauce for dipping is too thin so can’t taste the flavor well. Singapore curry noodle portion wasn’t as big as I hoped but was tasty. Beef rendang came with side of rice which was probably on the house since we didn’t order it separately, so thanks for the extra treat, it is appreciated and earned the extra star!
My wife and I ordered take out one week ago. We have ordered many times and always have been very happy with the quality and service. We used to ordinarily dine-in but with the pandemic we used a third-party delivery(Door Dash). Unfortunately that third-party never even arrived to the restaurant to deliver our food and eventually the restaurant closed. The owner was so gracious as to call me and hand deliver our food personally, free of charge for the inconvenience. We were astonished and grateful. What a kind gesture. And the tofu shrimp curry as well as the beef cubes dish were incredible. What a pillar of customer service. I highly recommend the establishment!
This hidden gem offers incredible Indonesian food including beef rendang that was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is lively and the staff is genuinely friendly. Some Asian places try to have an upscale ambiance but forget about the food. At Like Tree, the focus is on making unforgettable meals. It doesn't matter that the ambiance is rustic.
Wow, I wasn't expecting the quality of food for the price! Affordable, delicious and quick service. My friends and I had a vegetarian option, a meat option and a sweet black bean desert. I didn't even get a chance to take a photo of the desert we ate it so fast! The decor is somewhat lacking (its very sparsely decorated) and you do wonder if you are just walking into someone's basement when you enter (the entrance is marked but not like a typical restaurant), but no it is indeed a restaurant. I will be coming back here next time I'm in the area.
Very cute place! The staff are very friendly and everything is clean with plenty of seating. Small menu but everything looks great. The roti bread with curry sauce is amazing! Great for a vegetarian, too.
Had the Beef Rendeng and the Chicken Satay as an app... wow, incredible flavor and quality. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the portion sizes were huge. The service was friendly, quick, and attentive, even with most of the restaurant being full. First time here, will come again!
Just a lovely little tucked away spot - great food, great flavors. Can’t wait to come back!
My absolute go-to spot for authentic Southeast Asian comfort food. This is a true neighborhood hole-in-the-wall gem—it might be sparse (one cook, one server), but they make it work! Must-Haves: The Roti Pratha and the Singapore Noodles
One of my favorite places in the city. Everything but the roasted chicken/fried rice is outstanding (they don’t have a big menu). The roasted chicken and fried rice are average. Their price has increased by 20-30 percent compared to about two years ago. So sad that inflation got to this little neighborhood restaurant too. Highly recommend their spicy chili sauce, it makes everything better. For this particular location, there’s probably not a good ventilation system so you might walk out smell like the smoke from cooking. Their other location on clement st has better air. Will still come back in the future.
It’s a simple place with very friendly service and really good food that is hot and made fresh to order. Both times I’ve been here I haven’t had anything that wasn’t absolutely delicious. Everything is just so good. I love their hot sauce (Sambal) and their roti with curry is the best I’ve had.
Indoor dining 4/1/2021. 10 years ago, this place used to be packed with wait times up to an hour. Tonight it was completely empty. I was the only customer eating inside. I had the Martabak (meat stuff pancakes) $10 and the Singaporean curry noodles $10. The pancakes were a little dry. It came with a curry dipping sauce so it made it less dry. The Singaporean curry noodles were delicious. I'm accustomed to the traditional dry stir-fried version. This is good saucy version. I had them replaced the clear noodles to egg noodles. The curry had a good texture with hints of coconut juice. There were generous portions of curry, chicken, mushrooms and noodles. Great job everyone at Lime Tree!
This place has become one of my most favorite authentic south eastern Asian restaurant in SF. It's not just the food that you can enjoy but my experience sitting here with comfortable feeling like I'm in my own home. The atmosphere is not overwhelming. Ming the owner is a super cool guy he even offer free fruit plate to us after meal 🍴. What more to say. This is a paradise on earth. Edited 11/10/19 We came back and the food and service are still good.
Sharing their menu and excellent for a variety of Asian specialties. Enjoy.
A neat place! Small and hidden but with a unique and tasty menu. The chicken and noodles were as delicious as you'd expect, and the spiciness was satisfying. I didn't poke around their whole menu but the other entries looked equally appetizing. There are plenty of other stores around the area for desserts and other snacks as well if you're stopping through after some time at the park or at the beach.
The first restaurant on Irving street. It's a nice cosy place with wheelchair access. The decor is simple. Had the martabak and a Thai iced tea. The Thai iced tea was topped with coconut milk. Brilliant. The owner recognized I might like spice and served me this chilli tomato side with shrimp paste along with the regular dipping. I forget the name, but do ask about it. It's not clearly mentioned on the menu. Portions are generous. I barely managed to finish the item. Their flaky roti is similar to a flaky bread from South India, so I really like ordering it as it's the closest place serving something like it. In short, a nice place to have South East malay-thai dishes. And if you like spice, you simply need to ask.
This place is superb. A friend and I wandered around and planned to have lunch after a visit to the golden gate park. We picked up this unobtrusive place because we wanted to try some southeast Asian food. That turned out to be a fabulous decision. The restaurant is small in size, half-underground, not looking fancy at all, few customers when we walked in, so tbh we did not have high expectations at the beginning. However, our world views were just changed after we took a first bite of the food. I ordered a shrimp (Indonesischen?or Singaporean?) fried rice kind of thing. It was super delicious(though it looks nothing special) and I would say it’s the most delicious food I had ever had in a restaurant. Both of us were just amazed and we discussed the food during and even after the meal. Big size, humble look, extremely tasty. Hidden gem obviously. I will definitely come back again and bring more friends!
A family owned place where the roti is PERFECTLY fried, crispy on the outside and steamy flaky layers on the inside. A must try if you like carbs. Their laksa is also very good, it's spicy, and tiny bit sweet.

The food was sooooo good! The beef rendeng was literally like butter in my mouth. Definitely get that and also the nasi goreng!

The restaurant itself appears to be a converted basement since you have to go below street level. The decor is basic, but it's clean, which is good enough for a place where you just want good food at an affordable price. The shrimp noodles (#8) was tasty. It contained a lot of garlic and fish sauce. Portions were bigger than expected, I couldn't finish it all. Service was excellent, but we did have to ask for the check after waiting for 5 minutes. Not a big deal. If I lived closer, it would be my local joint to pick up something and go home to eat it.
Visited golden gate park and decided to come here for lunch because I've never tried "Singaporean" food. We ordered the roti pratha, the Martabak, Singaporean curry noodle and Nasi goreng with shrimp. The roti pratha was SO good but so small for its price. I think 3 roti would make sense since it's just bread. The Martabak was really good (could honestly be an entree) as well as the curry noodle (HUGE portion). DO NOT get the nasi goreng unless you want mediocre fried rice. I ordered it and regretted it because it was so basic- I thought it would be more unique. There were about 7 big shrimp in the dish- take that as you will. The proportion of rice to shrimp is huge- I couldn't finish my rice. Overall, my experience here was great, minus the nasi goreng.
Decent food. Appetizers we had were corn fritters and roti, they were definitely the stars. Need to come back to try the Laksa that was not available that day. Wish the food had more veggies. Right in front of the N Judah stop so super accessible.
Very tasty food in very low fuss surroundings. Nice service, good value. Could have used a beer. :) We had the chicken satay, beef randang, roti (two orders because it was so good, and corn fritters. All good!
Laksa soup delicious. Singapore curry noodles yummy. Salmon needed a little more dressing on top and was just a little bit overcooked. But we were very happy and will be back.
Affordable, good portion food. Their beef rendang combo was delicious and came with a drink and fruits. We also got a roti pratha and it was super buttery and delicious. The food came fairly quickly, but we had a hard time figuring out what ingredients were in the food. I think there was a little confusion because the roti was not made in house.
Amazing food! I had Laksa soup and it was like heaven for this chili foggy day of San Francisco! Large portion, great price! Visit, I’m sure you gonna LOVE IT and you’ll be very full! Hugs! Marcelo Costa
Standouts: Thai ice tea, roti, roti and ROTI. That curry sauce on the side of the roti was the highlight. It was an appetizer so it came first and everything else that followed paled in comparison. The other dishes were pretty decent too. The ice tea was just refreshing and flavorful.
Very local, casual restaurant. I went here with two friends on a Saturday, and we were the only ones there. I got the Mie Tek-Tek, and my friends got the shrimp noodles and tofu. The Mie Tek-Tek (mild) didn’t have much flavor, but my friends dishes looked pretty good. I liked the vibe and service, although about half of their menu is not available. Affordable for a big quantity of food.
Tried their pepe’s salmon for the first time. Banana leaf wrapping with burnt makes me feel I’m in a remote village in Malaysia. The fish was fresh and aromatic. The acidity from the lime adds another layer of flavor. I wish the plating has more finesse. I also with they do something special to the rice rather than service a bowl of plain white rice with the fish.

I visit SF every December since 2016 and visit Lime Tree on every trip. Lime tree was one of my favorite restaurants in SF and I have tried most of their menu (except desserts) but over time the taste of the food has declined. The flavors of most dishes have become muted and even the Sambal (hot sauce) has lost its punch. Still giving it 3 stars as the place is family run and they are very attentive to their customers. I hope they bring back the old taste which I crave.
It's in a basement with only a small windows peaking out at street level. Service was attentive and fast. Pretty small menu, but even then several items (~20%) were marked off as unavailable. I had the Shrimp Noodles, which were fine, but nothing to write home about. Reasonably priced.
Pretty good asian restaurant with some selection of Indonesian dishes. The food is quite tasty and we had a selection of fried rice or noodle, appetizers, fried chicken and crab, as well as dessert. Parking available on the street. Probably will visit again but it's a bit of a drive from the South bay.
I tried the martabak and the chicken satay.. Martabak was a little dry for me.

Not really Malaysian food (storefront generically says "southeast Asian"). Food was fast and roti + curry was good. I do not recommend the basil tofu, which has what looks like frozen carrots in a red sauce and no taste of basil.
Food could've definitely been better. It seemed like some key ingredients were missing from the dishes, and several items on the menu were unavailable for order. The beef in the beef rendang was rubbery, and the toasted coconut flakes were soggy. The tofu and shrimp dish was runny and unappealing. I've eaten a lot of Southeast Asian food in Southeast Asia, California, and New York, and this place lacked the authenticity and spice I've experienced elsewhere.

Food was very good my first time. This is my 2nd visit. I waited outside for 15 min. from 5-5:15pm on a Friday night when they’re supposed to be open and they were closed. No signs explaining closure. Very unprofessional.
