Love this place. You gotta try the shrimp po boy sliders!
Excellent food and great ownership! Broccolini is a must try, as well as the feta. Highly recommend the Smashburgers for the main course. Wide selection of in-house beer as well. Must stop by, one of the best in the area!
They have awesome pumpkin beer and the food seems amazing. The bathroom smells really good but the sitting area smells like the ventilation from the bathroom. They need to fix the ventilation.
Great food & beer. Was really quiet when we went at midday on a Monday. Service was fantastic and they were very accommodating to us and our 2 young kids. Definitely recommend!
I had the very best fish and chips at Magnolia a few weeks ago. The fish was crunchy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. Three large pieces. But this review isn't about that meal. I went back to Magnolia about a week ago. Same order, to go. When I got home, I was disappointed to see only three small pieces of fish. It was almost Magnolia's closing time and the order reflected that. Scraps from the bottom of the fryer. Still, I ate it and it wasn't bad. Just not enough! The next day, I stopped by and told the manager what had happened and showed him a pic of the disappointing fish. He apologized profusely and quickly offered another order for me, on the house. He also spoke to the cook. He didn't ask for a receipt or anything like that. The order I received that night was just like I remembered from my first visit there: perfect! This place has integrity, something that is increasingly rare to find. I recommend Magnolia 100% and I will be back! (All this talk about the fish and nothing about the chips? Well, the fries were not my favorite. They were shoestring fries. Typically the fries I've had with fish and chips were like steak fries—large wedges of potato. Good for soaking up that delicious malt vinegar. I would recommend that Magnolia switches over to steak fries.)
They had a soft opening last Thursday and we stopped by on Saturday. These are the same folks who own the Fly Bar and the Fish Bowl. It’s definitely an improvement from the last iteration of Magnolia. It’s more of a bar that serves light bites than a restaurant that is also a bar. They have 2 wines on tap (a rose and a white) and 2 bottles. The brewery is still underway so they have guest breweries. I love the new cocktail options. Started with the cucumber cooler which was a refreshing vodka drink. Tried the ring of fire which was a bit of spicier tequila cocktail that had a bit of kick. We split the po boy shrimp slider which was sooooo good. I texted a couple groups of friends and made plans before I left. Definitely coming back!
May 2025: Stopped by for a beer 🍻 after dinner nearby. Place had a live musician when we came in. But he left shortly after 8pm on a Saturday. Beer list is pretty good. I tried the Mojo hazy IPA. It was a little bit like a West Coast IPA rather than a NE style IPA. Rated it four ⭐ on Untappd. Service was friendly. Would come back again.
Yet another great find on our travels. Brilliant brewery and taproom in the iconic Haight/Ashbury area of San Francisco. We had the Lupe Mexican Lager and Gay-Z Pale Ale brewed specially for Pride…both were excellent. For food we had Buffalo Wings, a small cheese pizza and garlic fries all of which were delicious. Service was ultra friendly and we had a great chat about Haight/Ashbury and San Francisco in general. Highly recommended
the food here consistently rules (shoutout the whipped feta), and the service is great. unfortunately, almost all their basement brews taste like.. basement. like, made with dirty water or beer lines lol. ive tried a number of their house brews, and guests ive taken always agree. there often aren't non-magnolia beer options available. just a cheap bottled option would satisfy me! i'll be back for the food.. and i guess i'll get into high noons !!!
Claire C is absolutely adorable and oh so sweet. She has a gem personality that fits the neighborhood. The place got busy and she handled it with grace. She makes a killer spicy margarita!!! I did not eat here, I do not know about the food. There were a lot of fruit flys around my head, lol. Stopping into Magnolia added to my Haight Ashbury experience!
While walking around Haight Ashbury we found this place for lunch. They brew their own beers and have nice American fare on the menu. The burger was moist and tasty. The steak was tender and very flavorful though they forgot my chimichurri sauce. Both entrees were a good portion so we didn't have any space for dessert.
This place is very close to my place and I always saw a wait there, so I decided to check it out. This time thankfully there wasn't any wait and we were able to get a table right away. 1st impression- this place is LOUD but Its a brewery so i think its okay (?). I tried fivery time pale ale and winter warmer and both the beer's were excellent and I really want to try more beers from here. The beer menu is dominated by IPAs but I thinks that's what's expected from a bay area bar(?). Food was average. My burger was cooked perfectly but was under seasoned. The duck was definitely over cooked in the duck pasta. The fries were okay and the deviled eggs were great! The vanilla creme was good too. Our server was friendly and we were happy with our overall experience. Will definitely return for the beer and maybe fried chicken Thursday.
There are a few solid dishes like the chicken sandwich and fish and chips. Fries are great. Appreciate that prices are reasonable and portions are normal (not huge). Smash burger though leaves a lot to be desired. However, I just don’t dig the atmosphere since the ownership change. Country music in SF? Additionally, why insist on leaving the door open when it’s cold out? Service is hit or miss - some folks pay attention, others much less so. Also, many of the beers taste pretty messy, over-hopped. I hate to leave a mid review but hopefully these are some things that can be improved.
Sat at the bar on a busy day 7/30 at 1:00pm. The bartender was inattentive to patrons seated there ( or at least to me). He took orders from the couple to my right and the gentleman to my left. But never made eye contact with me even though trying to get his attention. It was not j til another server showed up behind the bar, and I asked him if I could place order with him. He was pleasant and said Of course. Orders an IPA and the smashed burger. Both were very good. The burger was cooked perfectly. Just wish the bartender at the bar was more attentive and a people person. This man had the worst personality for a Server I have ever seen
What happened to my old Magnolia. I know they have new owners, but the dip in every aspect of this place from service to atmosphere is too much. I have this place numerous chances after seeing the changes, but thee truly a god aweful place to spend your time in now. About one wait staff per 40 folks trying to order food. Last 3 times. And it’s like they don’t even care
Skip this place. From a local who lives in the neighborhood and has been here numerous times trying to give it a chance. If you’re not in a hurry for your drink to be refilled, if you’re not in a hurry for food to be delivered to your table, and if you don’t mind such loud music, you can’t speak to the person across the table and if you don’t mind setting a super low bar for your eatery – this is your spot.
