Mahalo! is a small, simple spot serving large portions of tasty Hawaiian food. The BBQ chicken, spam musubi, and macaroni salad are popular. Some find the interior dated and some dishes inconsistent, but the friendly staff is a highlight.

Was looking for a place to eat that was open early and couldn't be more happier that I found this place! They had a large selection of food which you had a choice if you wanted a small or big size. I asked for recommendations and finally settled with the chicken katsu curry. The server also gave me two sauces (gravy and katsu sauce) to try out with my meal. It was such a huge portion for even a small size and it was truly a great meal. Both sauces worked perfectly with the katsu. The price is very reasonable too! While the food was great, the staff taking my order was so nice and welcoming. It definitely made me want to come back to this place. I want to come back and try the Loco Moco next!
A good place to have Hawaiian food. Their business is not very good so you get the food freshly cooked right after you order it. The fish burger I had was so fresh and hot that I almost had my tongue burned by the hot field fish. Service is great.
Really love the restaurant. The food portions are huge and the prices are affordable. My top recommendation is musibi, which is also one of the most iconic foods in Hawaii. Unlike other restaurants, you have the option to add egg or avocado on the musubi here. I personally prefer to add egg. Chicken katsu and BBQ chicken are also my favorite. Chicken Katsu was crispy and juicy, with their special sauce, which it's a perfect match! The BBQ chicken was also tender, juicy and very Hawaiian. Highly recommended!!!
Small, simple place for killer Hawaiian food. Spam musubi was perfectly balanced with a little of the sweet sauce. Chicken katsu musubi is so crunchy and tasty.
Good food, good service. The portion size was more than enough. I had half and half fried fish and beef
Good portions and reasonably priced! Quiet cozy atmosphere
I loooove the macaroni salad!!!! We ordered the BBQ chicken and a side of macaroni salad. Big serving, great flavors.

From the moment we entered, we were greeted by warm, welcoming staff who made us feel like family. The service was efficient, and the waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing. The food? Incredible! The kalua pork was tender and full of flavor, and the poke was some of the freshest I’ve had. The ambiance was the perfect blend of relaxing and festive—dim lighting, island music in the background, and beautiful wooden accents throughout. The whole vibe made us feel like we were dining on a tropical beach. Highly recommend!
We stopped in on our way down the coast and got the loco moco and the Mahalo! Chicken Club. Both were great, staff were super friendly. In particular, their bbq chicken was AWESOME. Someone put some love into it, I am sure.
Best Hawaiian bbq in SF, I’ve tried them all, trust me.

My kids wanted Hawaiian and we tried it on a Saturday night. Seems like mostly a lunch or take out place. Food was served quick and very tasty. Good quick eat.
Hella good spot hidden gem in the Inner Sunset! Chicken Katsu is a classic you cannot go wrong with! The portions are beautiful and I wasn't able to finish them, the vibe is comforting with the old school design of the interior. Macaroni Salad was really good here and I'm not a big fan of mac salads in the first place! The service was there, nothing special, but they got the job done and fed me. Will be coming back!
I ordered delivery and I could smell the food through the bag. I ordered three spam musubi, chicken katsu (mini), and onion rings. The onion rings were horrible. About $5 for bland, flavorless, and soggy onion disappointments. However, the spam musubi was delicious. Perfectly grilled spam slices on top of delicious, flavorful sauce and perfectly cooked rice. And the price was less than $9 for three. Mahalo's spam musubi is the real deal. Absolutely delicious. The chicken katsu (mini) was about $11. I didn't realize there was a mini and a regular size option until after I ordered. The regular size is about $14. The chicken is so tender and tastes like it's been marinated. It's covered in what looks to be panko breadcrumbs. The chicken was like french fries. Nice and crisp on the outside with a mealy, tender inside. Now, some of the chicken wasn't crispy but most of it was. It comes with some sauce that you can put on but the chicken without the sauce still tastes good. I got macaroni salad for my side and it was really good for macaroni salad but I didn't like it. Looking back, I should've gotten the salad instead. I'm not a fan of macaroni salad so I wouldn't have liked it either way but if you like macaroni salad, Mahalo is where you want to eat. All the food I had tasted just like they did in Hawaii. Overall, I'm giving four stars. It would've been five stars if the onion rings weren't horrible. I expected stuff to be at least a little soggy because it's delivery so it's kind of inevitable. If you're ordering delivery, get food that isn't crispy. If you're eating there, expect delicious food at very reasonable prices.
I was going to only give it 3 stars but the staff saved a star. Hete is why they didn,t get 5 stars. The rice was stiff and looked old. The gravy was watery. I was offered water after almost 10 minutes. I had sunny side up eggs, when I perfer over easy. I shouldn't have to say anything. The waitress should of asked. Also, the menu gave me the option of either mac salad or green salad. Again the waitress just assumed. I had to add salt. The hamburger patties were then and pre-formed. The macaroni salad had pre-shredded carrots and two tiny pieces of some type of meat. Also, not enough gravy and I had to ask for more. What saved the 4th star was the waitress was very polite, service was quick, and I was given extra gravy when I asked. She was very polite. So, if you are near this restaurant I suggest you try this Hawaiian style restaurant.
Good food, proper size portion. Got the bbq beef bowl, delicious sauce. Knocking off a star because hate when places have the tv on the wall and it was playing some obnoxious kids show.

I've consistently found it to be a great deal for Hawaiian-style food in Inner Sunset, for very decent prices. The interior isn't meant to have a ton of ambiance.. its really just functional to serve quick bites. Great breakfast and lunch options. I go here once a month, haven't been disappointed yet.
Very tasty Hawaiian food. It’s a bit dated and not the prettiest restaurant in the world but the food is solid, affordable, seemingly good quality and satisfying. Will come again.
Good prices, large portions, and excellent BBQ chicken. Macaroni salad side was good, and rice was cooked properly. Docking a point for the interior as it's a bit tacky, but I'd think of it as part of the experience. I would recommend this place if you're craving Hawaiian food as there's nothing like it, and this place does a good job at offering a plethora of classics while keeping the quality consistent.
I was just craving for spam and eggs. I have no idea why, but I don't question such things. I was on the 44 on my way back from the Bayview, so I knew I had to stop by Mahalo. I got there around noon, and there was no one inside. I just choose to sit at the table closest to me, and after ordering, I got my food within 10 minutes. I got the macaroni salad along with the spam and eggs, and a Thai iced tea. I got the mac salad first, and it was pretty good. No one can beat my mom's, but this one was good enough to satisfy a craving. I believe it had shredded chicken in it so it's not something a vegetarian can order. (Side note: my sister is vegetarian and I've been hyper-aware of what has meat in it since she became one.) My entree came with four slices of spam and two eggs over-easy. It was a big portion of rice, and the spam wasn't too greasy. I should've asked if they had banana ketchup because that would've made my meal more like something I would eat at home. As usual, my eyes were much larger than my stomach, so I couldn't finish everything. The total meal was around $13 without tip. The mac salad definitely could've been shared with another person, along with my entree, so it's really a good deal if I was dining with another person. Unfortunately I wasn't, and it was painfully apparent with how quiet it was. No music, tv turned off. It's like the universe was showing me how alone I was (I'm being over-dramatic but I did just end a tumultuous relationship so...). The decor is a bit lacking. One wall has a blown up picture of what I think is Hanauma Bay, and the other side has a Paris/London word-art. If you're in the area and have a huge appetite, Mahalo would be the place to go for their large portions at a good price.

They precook their beef patties, so the loco moco was incredibly underwhelming with hard meat. The mac salad is under seasoned. Musubi is good. I’d be more inclined to dine in if they had music going, or something to make it feel more inviting. Pretty average overall each time, been there three times in as many years.

I really want to support this restaurant because I love Hawaiian food. The musubis are good, but a little too much rice and too little topping. I ordered a garlic fish plate and was sad to see it swimming in butter. See photo for how much liquified butter was in the Mac salad and greens.

Absolutely disgusting food. Katsu was greasy, and too salty. The Mac was inside the container to which I asked for it on the side. The Mac is warm and flavorless. Liquid from the pork spilled all over the bag. Tiny portion of Mac. Don’t bother coming here.
Food used to be very tasty. Chicken is not tested like before........they need to have more improvement on their food quality.
I got what would be a normal American breakfast. The eggs were ok, but the hash browns were oil soaked and undercooked squares that you’d find at a local Safeway freezer section, and the sausages were nothing special. The service was poor as it seemed me wanting to order was a big chore for them. I think this place is more geared for delivery than eating there. A big warning sign I ignored was that I was the only one there. If you want a good breakfast, look elsewhere.
