Absolutely loved this steakhouse!!! We enjoyed every dish we ordered and had stellar service throughout our dining experience . Some big call outs was the accommodating hostess Paola! I am VERY pregnant and was not able to sit in the cabana seating and she immediately found us an alternate option, no Questions asked. Charles our server and the manager were so kind and delighful!!! We also Had the pleasure to meet the kind chef josh(ua) who checked on us after our meal. All in all, everybody was super kind and we absolutely will be back with more family!
While on vacation we had a short stay in San Francisco. We wanted a nice steak and decided on OSSO because it is not a chain restaurant. Wowza! What an incredible dinner experience we had. The location was great! Easy to get to even for our Waymo. The restaurant itself is very nice and has a very nice ambiance for a romantic dinner or even a business dinner. Dress code was business casual, but we were able to go in with dark jeans and a sweatshirt. The service was great from the host, to the waiter and bartender. The food was amazing! Highly recommend the house cheese bread! We couldn’t get enough of it. The wagyu ribeye was probably one of THE BEST steaks I’ve ever had. Delicious and so flavorful! We probably didn’t need to order the two sides because between the bread and the steaks we were in heaven! We live in Texas and OSSO quickly took the top spot on our list for favorite steakhouses we’ve been to. Can’t wait to visit San Francisco again!
Osso Steakhouse in San Francisco’s Nob Hill delivered exactly the kind of classic steakhouse evening my wife and I were hoping for. Conveniently located on California Street near Grace Cathedral and the Fairmont, it’s an easy choice if you’re staying or meeting in the neighborhood. We started with the mushrooms and crab cakes, and both set a high bar for the meal. The sautéed mushrooms were deeply savory and meaty, the kind of side you keep reaching for throughout the night. The Dungeness crab cakes were crisp on the outside, full of sweet crab rather than filler, and paired with a sauce that added just the right brightness. For a main, I ordered a New York steak au poivre, cooked exactly to temperature, with a great crust and a peppercorn sauce that enhanced the beef instead of overwhelming it. Osso is known for its dry‑aged steaks and old‑school steakhouse feel, and this dish fit that reputation perfectly. Portions were generous without being excessive, and the pacing of the courses made the dinner feel unhurried. Service was attentive and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. From check‑in at the host stand to the final check, staff stayed on top of details without ever hovering, which matched the club‑like, Art Deco‑influenced ambiance. It’s the kind of room that works equally well for a date night, a business dinner, or a special occasion with friends. If you’re looking for a classic San Francisco steakhouse experience—dry‑aged steaks, well‑executed sides, strong cocktails, and a comfortable, upscale atmosphere—Osso Steakhouse is very easy to recommend
This was my second time here at Osso Steakhouse. I've been here previously but the experience was forgettable but tonight was extremely memorable. To start, we arrived at 6:15 pm for a 7 p.m reservation. To our luck, we were able to get seated right away. Tonight I was lucky enough to be helped by Daniel and Ramsey. Their service was some of the best I've received in all the restaurants I've ever been to. I ordered a rare steak but when it came out, it was actually medium rare. Ramsey noticed my hesitation and reassured me to inform him if anything wasn't to my liking. With that, I ended up sending the steak back (I never send food back) and had a new one brought out in around 10 minutes. The new steak was perfectly rare to my liking and the sides/starters were all stars by themselves. The service was my favorite part of the night-- the staff checked in periodically and ensured the courses were coming out in a timely manner (not too early, not too late). I made sure to thank Daniel and Ramsey before I left-- they're truly experts in their roles and made my night. Highly recommend swinging by for dinner, food and service is beyond!!
I wished if I knew this place earlier while staying in San Franc. Among many we tried in our August 2025 visit, this place was among the top tier. Their steak is outstanding along with the sides. Yet, their Burger was uniquely great, juicy and tender as good as it should. I must dedicate an appreciation statement to the Chef for his professionalism and devoting a high sense of customer care by serving the food in tune with our liking while maintaining that kicking flavor. On top of the great food, their service was attentive and our thanks to the guest attendants (couldn’t recall his and her name), but both took care of us right from welcoming all the way thru serving the food then greeting us on the way out. A sure repeat whenever back to San Fran.
Enjoyed a delicious dinner celebrating my partner's birthday. The service was top notch with plentiful food and drink selections to choose from. Their signature steaks are pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
Great burger and fries. Wonderful steak. Neat setting and art deco ambiance, it’s on the bottom floor of a lux Nob Hill condo complex across from Grace Cathedral next to the Masonic. It’s great for pre-show noms, business dinners, girls’ nights…it feels upscale. There’s strong drinks and a good happy hour at the bar from 6-7pm. Shoutout to my favorite bartender Eddie! He deserves a raise. Very friendly and kind and fun and funny.
Hands down one of the better steakhouses I’ve dined out. The hubby can grill up a mean steak, so we don’t often opt to visit steakhouses, but it was a special weekend, so we decided to try a new place. I had researched so many dif steakhouses and narrowed it down to this one which was by all means, the best choice. It was July 4th weekend so it wasn’t too crowded and getting a reservation was easy but my guess is on a regular weekend, it’s gotta be pretty crowded. What I liked about this place was that it had the old skool vibe with a modern touch. Keeping it short and sweet……food was delicious from apps, salads, mains to dessert. We dined with a foodie friend and her problem is that dessert is never good enough (she bakes so I can see that), but here, they passed the test; dessert was really good. We corked a bottle of wine at $35 (pretty cheap for a really nice steakhouse) and had some pre dinner cocktails (they make the best dirty martini and was pretty cheap for SF/steakhouse standards). The cherry on top? Our server, Thomas! OMG! WHAT A HOOT. I’ve met quite a few great servers, but Thomas takes the cake. Thomas was not only good at his job and super attentive to our group, but he SINGS apparently. Ha! He and the hubby were reminiscing about concerts and bolted out verses from songs they both loved. If only every server was like Thomas! I would definitely come back again and will try to make it a regular spot. Side Note: We ubered. Didn’t look like there was much parking around but really, who is trying to drive with such great cocktails served at this place.
After a day of driving through the mountains above Santa Cruz, I was hanging out for a burger. I was staying at the Fairmont, and just couldn’t bring myself to pay $34 for just the burger. 😳. So I walked two minutes to Osso and it was absolutely fantastic. The service was exceptional, the hamburger was great – as were the crabcakes. They did half bottles of wine for a reasonable price ($39 for a French GSM) and to top it all off their dirty martini used four pillars olive gin. What more could you want? Can’t recommend it highly enough – go there.
The filet mignon bone in, superb! The Caesar salad the original Caesar salad awesome! That cheese bread, is ridiculously good! A must! The atmosphere is perfect, Sat down and have a wonderful dinner before a show. We ate, didn’t rush, food came fast. A perfect spot for dinner and enjoy a wonderful meal!
Came here for Father’s Day and arrived 15 minutes early. Was seated right away and already received immense hospitality by our waiter Richard. He made the experience great. All the food here was amazing from the petit filet mignon to the king salmon and even the steak stripes. All were made to perfection. The spinach side did have a little too much butter but other than that everything was great. Ended the night off with two desserts the New York cheesecake and the Chocolate Hazelnut cake. Both were amazing and the perfect sweetness
This restaurant is amazing. Beautifully decorated, amazing food, and a great wait staff. I went here for a meal with fellow co-workers and the entire experience was amazing. The cheesy bread was to die for, the calamari was top notch, the French onion soup was delicious, and all the sides were perfect, especially, believe it or not, the carrots. I ordered the bone in ribeye, which was expensive but well worth every penny. If I'm going to spend $90 on a steak, it better be the best steak I've ever had and it absolutely was. I will forever compare any steak I've ever had to this one. If you are in San Francisco, you need splurge and to go to those restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
Date night with my husband could not be more perfect. The restaurant is not in plane sight so it felt like a private affair. My husband had the NY Strip and I had the bone in Ribeye with creaming spinach. We shared the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese which were delicious. Key Lime tart and carrot cake rounded out the meal. The carrot cake is truly exceptional. If this restaurant was down the street from me I would be a regular. I highly recommend.
Very elegant decor, welcoming, and quiet perfect for a date. Now, the star of this elegance was the food and the service. Hostess showed us to our table, in minutes we had our drinks and menu's. So first we had the crab cakes, which were crispy full of crab and more crab!!! No fillers here. Full of flavor and seasoned to perfection. Then We got the porterhouse, perfected in flavor and we took the chefs recommendation to have it medium rare. I'm telling you best meat I've had in my LIFE. Next the sides... we had brussel sprout chips which were well seasoned with a bit of lemon. Mac and cheese was savory well balanced in flavor and surprisingly not heavy. After that we had crispy potatoes, well seasoned super crispy and begging you to come back for more. Next was desert, caramel vanilla crunch cake (not my first choice but my wife wanted it) creamy, decadent, moist, had hints of vanilla, and lots of caramel. Over all the meal was fantastic and wait staff was very prompt and efficient never having and empty glass or a dirty dish. I would definitely recommend, will be coming back soon.
Osso Steakhouse is one of those rare SF spots that feels like a step back in time—in the best way. The moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by old-school Art Deco charm, dim lighting, and that classic supper-club vibe that’s getting harder to find in the city. It’s a little tucked away and parking can definitely be a challenge, but once you’re inside, the experience makes it worth it. The service is attentive without being overbearing, and the food is the star of the night. The steaks are phenomenal—beautiful crust, perfectly seasoned, and cooked exactly the way you ask. The tomahawk and ribeye both came out rich, juicy, and full of flavor. Even the sides and starters stand out; the wedge salad with thick-cut bacon was a highlight on its own. If you’re looking for an old-school San Francisco steakhouse with character, great service, and elite steaks, Osso delivers. A hidden gem that’s absolutely worth the trip.
The food was mediocre The sauces were thin and not to tasteful. The seatings are aweful. You sit in old couches And you sit way to low to be able to eat comfortably. The wines were really good but very expensive The restaurant didn’t have its own restrooms so you had to go out and take the elevator down to a public toilet. Really discusting.
I was very excited for a first time experience this past Saturday at Osso with my girlfriend, but nearly regretted it from the start of the experience. Although the food was good, service was a bit lack luster; to phrase it politely. Especially coming from someone who works at a fine dining establishment myself. Now we were running a few moments behind schedule for our 7pm reservation, so I notified the restaurant. The hostess who answered my call was gracious enough to move our slot forward to 730 without any issue. Upon entering the restaurant, there were 3 waiters standing at the host stand. Not only were we NOT greeted, but one of the servers saw us, turned back around and continued their conversation. Once my girlfriend spoke up and asked for assistance, the hostess walked up shortly after and directed our waiter where to seat us. We had a nice view of the kitchen and restaurant while still feeling semi private from our booth. The dry aged NY was good, but not melt in your mouth tender. Mashed potatoes were delicious and whipped to perfection, and the broccolini was nicely charred and had a nice little spicy kick. Our waiter was fairly nice, however, didn't do much to go above and beyond and really give that "wow" factor to the experience. He did give a Great recommendation on pairing the Malbec with the steak we ordered as opposed to the Pinot noir, additionally the Lucy Blossom cocktail was mouthwatering!! Big thank you to the bartender. The icing on the cake, as we left the restaurant, not a soul wished us a good night or thanked us for coming in.
Our party of four visited for dinner and was greeted with a very warm welcome. We were seated immediately and offered water, and our server took our drink orders right away. However, we did wait quite a while for those drinks to arrive. While the food came out in a reasonable amount of time, the quality was disappointing. I ordered the lobster tail, which was rubbery and overcooked. My husband’s pork was also overcooked, dry, and so greasy that you could taste the frying oil. Our friends ordered a filet mignon medium-rare, but it arrived overcooked as well. Even the sides were a letdown; the baked potato and potatoes au gratin were incredibly heavy and thick—the au gratin lacked the balance you'd expect from such a dish. Given the high price point, the quality just wasn't there. To make matters worse, I ended the night with an upset stomach. Unfortunately, we won't be returning due to the food quality. I do want to be clear, the service was great! The serving staff were so warm, friendly, and attentive.
