Do NOT let the simplicity of this place fool you - the concept is simple but smart! My friend and I both ordered the original - it came with a side of chicken broth, and if you want extra you can order for $2, as well as the soy sauce. I really liked the soy sauce with the hot sauce. The sauce made all the difference! If you’re looking for a healthy option, they also have brown rice and vegetarian options which I have yet to go back and try!
This is a Thai poached boiled Hainanes Singaporean style chicken that comes with a delicious sauce. It was about $18 for their #1 which is over rice with cucumbers and a broth soup. Be careful but we were able to park on the yellow curb for 15 mins and did not get a ticket, luckily, best to order ahead and just pickup with less than 5 mins parked.
Came in during lunch break, and despite the huge crowd, the wait wasn’t too long. I got the original, and it’s simple chicken and rice but super delicious! The sauce is very flavorful, and the chicken broth is a nice side. Definitely will be coming back when I crave a clean and filling meal.
For what it is, it’s amazing. Great healthy and fast choice. Excellent portion sizing too.
Decided to give this place a try, as I was looking for something healthy and easy on my stomach. Ordered the #1 (The Original) without skin. Wasn't sure how the chicken would taste, but turned out to be really good. Good portion sizes: not enough for leftovers but plenty for one sitting. The chili/ginger/soy sauce was pretty tasty, just the right amount of flavor. Rice was excellent as well. Good service, all around great experience. Will likely be back soon.
Stopped in for lunch. They seem to be popular and serve a lot of lunch crowds. Both to-go and sit-down. Good speed. Good food.
Seriously great. The mini Riceless bowl is the best possible deal for a tasty keto meal in SF at an affordable price. Surprised at how difficult is to be low carb in this city or spend less than 18 USD when eating out but this was superb. The Mini ($11 USD), is actually bigger than I expected, it's a proper meal portion and the price is right. Wish I had found out about it earlier in my trip to SF. Pictured in the image is the full size at the top and the mini at the bottom (black container). 10/10 no notes.
Top notch chicken and rice, but prices could be lower. As you enter and make your way to the kiosk to order, you're hit with an intense chicken aroma, like the smell of opening a container of chicken stock. The place is pretty clean, could be a little bit cleaner; there was some spilled broth on one of the tables furthest from the counter, so maybe they couldn't see it. You'll place your order on the kiosk, and follow the instructions so you get your order. I ordered the Original, breast only (it normally has thigh and breast, but if I'm paying $16, I don't want the least expensive cut of chicken), (there's also the Marina which has brown rice and breast only) and had to wait about seven minutes to get my order. Someone called my name, and I went to the counter to get my order, which consisted of some cilantro over evenly cut chicken slices spread over rice, with some cucumber on the side and sauce in a container, and a little container of chicken broth. I ate a piece of chicken breast, and it was pretty tender. The rice was slightly wet and had the smell of chicken broth, so I'm guessing they put chicken broth on the rice. I tried a dab of sauce on some of the rice, and it was really really good. I poured the whole container of sauce on the chicken and rice. I took a sip of broth, and it was really really chicken-y. It was bright yellow, so there was probably some turmeric in there. The whole dish was a simple and very delicious combination of flavors, and cost about $16. The portion was enough to be filling. If it's not filling enough, you could order a side like an egg, extra broth, or a cup of rice. Overall, it's a nice place to go for a quick meal. Most of the people there are coming from work and it was pretty quiet, except for ambient music. My only complaint is that the price was pretty high for something that's mostly rice.
had an uber for their hainan chicken rice which is fantastic! Absolutely love it, really authentic one and you can also change to all thighs which is even better! Their portion is huge as well!
They just do one thing and they do it really well. Chicken and rice with a selection on add-ons . My fav go-to for a homie and quick dose of chicken and rice. Their garlic sauce is amazing on everything! Chicken is juicy and tender while the rice is flavourful! I usually get it everytime I'm in town ! Simple and yummy !
They run a brisk business with a small menu serving Thai chicken rice. The ratio of chicken to rice is incredibly generous, great lunch at good value for money. Yummy sauce!
5 stars because it’s the best chicken & rice in SF (in my opinion). The original is always the best but if you wana go for healthier, the Marina! I love it with the orange spicy hot sauce. If you can find a better place, you let me know! 🤓😉
Sometimes, it's the simplest of meals that leave the most lasting impression on our taste buds. A steaming bowl of chicken broth, perfectly boiled chicken with fluffy rice, and a side of crisp broccoli - now that's a recipe for pure culinary bliss.

Their soup/broth is so yummy! Very flavorful! The rice is absolutely delicious, infused with chicken stock. The chicken breast is slightly dry but the thighs are juicy and soft.

Very healthy lunch, and tasty! The “riceless” option is perfect for hitting my quota of vegetables and protein. Chicken was tender and moist, sauce on the side, and the broccoli was fresh and steamed without extra butter or oil. Portion size was good.

Rooster and Rice - The Paleo Breast or thigh & seasonal veggies. You can ask them to remove the skin. The chicken is steamed and does not have any bones. I am in chicken heaven! The dish is served with fresh chili, ginger, garlic, and soybean sauce. I wanted to try this dish as it was one of the Fung Brothers San Francisco food crawl stops. The food is tasty and delicious!
much better than expected. but what was i even expecting? idk. love that the menu is simple and straightforward. they have delicious meet and rice bowls with broth for flava. i ordered the tofu one which maybe was a mistake but they lowkey need to step up the vegetarian game. my friend's chicken bowl had much more flavor. but once they get that veggie bowl up to par she's a 5-star girlie for sure. that's easy.
I was a bit worried when I saw how limited the menu was, but this really was such a delicious and refreshing meal. The chicken was cooked to perfection, the rice was awesome, and the cucumbers/cilantro were a nice, fresh touch. The sauce and broth were delicious, too. There is very minimal seating inside, and it seems like they struggle to keep the tables clean between customers. The price also feels quite high for such a simple meal, but again, it was very good food.
The chicken rice was very good, I ordered extra vegetables and got perfect crunchy cauliflower. BUT when I opened the bag back in my hotel I was so disapointed: no chili sauce! Only the brown (delicious) sauce in the box, nothing else 😢 Be sure to check if everything is in the bag before leaving it was supposed to be served with 3 sauces…
I like it. It's low key, fast & casual counter service spot serving up tasty khao man gai, Thai Chicken and rice. Pretty affordable too!
Picked up lunch during the work week-- if you have the same idea, definitely order ahead. It was so packed and the staff was working hard to get the orders churned out. Not the cutest restaurant but the food is so delicious! Their sauces are really good.
Decent spot for chicken rice, def had better ones in SF but this one isn’t bad. Soup is too salty tho!
Saw this place get featured by the Fung Bros on YouTube and I just had to check it out. Pretty cozy place with a long bench of tables. I had the “Original” (Hainanese Chicken with jasmine rice) and it was amazing. The fragrance of the rice was top notch. The only negative I would say would be the price. It could be a bit cheaper for what you get. But worth a try if you’re in the area.

I came due to its popularity and frankly I just love steamed chicken rice. A lot of people were willing to wait for 20 minutes for their chicken dish (as they temporarily sold out.) I was expecting a lot. I do like the chicken paleo option that I ordered and loved the great broccoli, sauce, and broth, but I found the chicken just ok; nothing too special, especially for a total of $14! This makes the Hainanese chicken rice at Chinatown’s Sam Rong Cafe at $6.5 a steal (and no wait).
I ve been coming to this location for almost a year. Great quality chicken that's tasty and healthy. My major complaint is that while the jasmine white rice is always cooked to perfection and is aromatic and tasty, the brown rice however is hardly the same quality. Most of the time (>95%) the brown rice is very dry, almost raw and difficult to chew on. I am not sure about why the huge difference in the cooking quality of the different rices but the always hard, under-cooked brown rice is making eating healthier a painful decision. On a side note, while everything else is all very healthy, the chicken broth is loaded with salt. I hope that their brown rice is cooked with a little bit more care and consistency as their white rice and that there d be less salt in the broth in the future.
Food is so mid… do not waste it on here if you’re traveling. Chicken dry, bland. Sauce is nothing good
Everything looks really good, nice sitting area to enjoy your meal. I ordered The Original... rice is super tasty but the chicken breast is really dry with chalky texture. Very unfortunate... I try to cover up the dryness with the sauce that comes with it but doesn't help much. The broth is super tasty. Service was very good and fast.
food is ok. just boiled chicken, rice, and thai sauce. It's bit expensive for what it is.
We got chicken spring rolls and three Hainan chicken rices – two '"riceless" and one "original". The chicken in the Hainan rice was definitely decent, of solid quality. Portion sizes were generous, which is always a plus. However, the rice was just okay, nothing special, and the chicken soup was pretty bland. We thought the '"riceless" option was the better deal. They load you up with extra broccoli to replace the rice, which is fantastic if you're looking for more fiber and vegetables. As for the chicken spring rolls, the chicken inside was overcooked and dry. Definitely a miss.
Man nothing beats a bowl of broth, chicken, rice, veggies and great tasting sauce. Why is this not a 5 star? I’ve asked for extra cucumbers every damn time and I never get extra cucumbers. Also if you see a pork dish don’t get it.
ordered the original came with steam rice, chicken with skin, a soy sauce dressing, cucumbers(except mined didn’t have any) guess they forgot, over all really simple, for $14 its kind of expensive, don’t think i’ll be coming back, chicken was just steam breast, they could probably add some spices to it it to make it taste better. Not planning on coming back to this place.

Ordered here for team lunch and surprisingly rly liked it! The meal itself is super simple- hainan chicken over rice. I subbed for the ginger scallion sauce over the original and it gave some rly nice flavor to the plain chicken. Chicken was super tender and paired rly nicely with the rice! Love how they give you some broth on the side- only thing is that they forgot to give me my extra cilantro I ordered ;(
Wow, I did not know it was a franchise chain with a Santa Clara location near my condo when I just found the Financial District location in San Francisco after a Successful Job Interview. It was next to a FedExp so it had WiFi. I told the young lady that 1st time here, what do you recommend? Of course, she said #1, it was steamed chicken breast on rice with cucumber, broth, and I ordered a Mexican coke regular after she asked me if wanted diet. I hope to try the Kha Soi after I get the job offer. Then I can give more stars for consistency.

Shrinkflation is real fellas. I haven't been to this place since the pandemic. I recall it was pricey back then but at least the portion was huge. Now when I get the exact same dish "the classic" wow. The difference is night and day. You got a tiny layer of meat with some uncooked cucumber. It was a huge downgrade compared to a few years ago. Even the signature sauce they provide is less punchy. I'm so disappointed. For $18.70 with all the bullshit fees I expected way more. The interior is just ok, very uncomfortable chairs it's like they discourage you to stay longer. Suffice to say I'm not planning to come back. Edit: I just finished the meal (still hungry) and noticed the bottom is visibly padded so that they can give you less portion while making it look full. Lmao

Kind of like the food here but the worker quality is terrible, making me worry if they handle the food unsanitary to cause food poisoning. I’m sure they can find better workers than the guys who work the evening shift

Food is passable, but last time I ordered there, my chicken had no skin on it. It appears that they have taken that and are now selling fried chicken skins for $5. Meal is already almost $20 and taking part of my meal and reselling feels like i just got robbed. Not right.
It's Thursday December 18, 2025 9:00pm. I came into the restaurant expecting it to be open, and yet the cook or cashier (latino male) says the store is closed. He closes the place 8pm everyday. Why? The website says it should close 10pm instead of 8 o clock. Why you lying?!
