A quaint, maybe even unassuming, Italian restaurant, that has a top notch kitchen and service. The menu cycles, but I have never been disappointed. Pizzas are outstanding, be they breakfast or lunch, and the all of the baked goods have clearly been perfected. Don't miss this spot, especially if you're a coffee connoisseur.
Rose Cafe sits at the western end of Union Street and is one of Cow Hollow’s busiest brunch spots. If there’s a wait on a weekend, people usually go to Wrecking Ball Coffee across the street or check out the bike shop on the opposite corner. Once seated, the menu leans heavily on baked items and egg dishes. The bread pudding, specialty quiche, and poached egg plates are the items most tables order, and the brunch crowd often adds one of the bottled options that come out of the bar at a steady clip.
Just wow! The bread on many dishes is light, fluffy, and just a quality product. The corner location is easily accessible and there is well over 25+ seats outside on a less than busy corner. Accessibility is easy for all patrons. Salmon dishes here are a top recommendation. The Salmon Cozy is light, yet has a sweet Italian dressing taste that makes it highly desired for more with subtle watercress. The Salmon Pizza is a unique gem that combines eggs with smoked salmon:) There is plenty of dishes that kids will enjoy. The pizza is again light with sauce and the dough is crunchy and holds its form well. The Staff is the friendliest with quality service throughout your time at Rose’s. Do not miss a stop at Rose’s when in San Francisco.
Rose’s is a local staple for pretty much any meal, and it won’t take long to understand why. The menu is built around a pretty solid foundation of Italian food, with some American influences sprinkled around. Everything is delicious, and feels and tastes homemade. I had the chicken sausage and polenta with a slightly spicy tomato sauce that seriously almost knocked the wind out of me - not because of the spice! - because it reminded me so much of the tomato sauce my nonna made when I was a kid. The place is spacious and cozy, the staff is friendly and attentive, and I’d venture you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
Food was delicious. The baked goods were fabulous, coffee cake and chocolate croissants yummy. The table had the stuffed Focaccia, breakfast sandwich and the mushroom spinach pizza. All very tasty and very large portions. Staff was very attentive. Seating available both inside and out.
The food was good, but I wouldn’t call it one of the best brunch spots in SF, definitely not worth all the hype. The soup was actually quite good, and the breakfast pizza stood out as the best dish. The space itself is lovely with a great vibe right on Union Street, which definitely adds to the experience. However, the service wasn’t very friendly, which took away from the overall feel. All in all, a decent spot, just slightly above average for SF brunch standards.
Came here on Mother’s Day hoping for a great meal with family. The restaurant wasn’t busy, which surprised us, but we’ve had good experiences here before and were optimistic. Unfortunately, the food was underseasoned. My smoked salmon breakfast pizza, my son’s chicken sausage with polenta, and my husband’s soft scrambled egg sandwich all needed help from hot sauce or salt and pepper. Service was friendly but a bit forgetful—we didn’t get sugar and cream for our coffee until it had gone cold. That said, we still enjoyed our time because we were in great company, and thankfully, there was no rush to leave. Even though the food didn’t shine this time, I’m giving the restaurant a 4/5 because I remember how wonderful it once was. I’m hopeful this was just an off day, and I’d love to see the kitchen return to the well-seasoned, memorable meals we’ve had here in the past.
Yes great lunch experience. Food was delicious and well balanced flavors. Loved the pizza crust, very light and crispy. We had the Salmon Cozy sandwich and the Mushroom Pizza. Salmon sandwich was amazing and also with a very light bread. Flavors abound. Recommended by the locals and they are right.
The breakfast pizzas were the novel and fine. I preferred the fried eggs and ham pizza mainly because the eggs were a yummy addition. The soft scramble was also fine. Bread, butter and jam - the rhubarb jam was good but the bread was nothing special. I was hoping for more given it said “house-baked” on the menu. We had a table outside which was great given the nice weather. It is worth a visit to try the pizzas but wouldn’t go out of my way to go back.
What a great place to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and freshly baked goods. From their oven baked pizza to their great verity of dishes, you’ll definitely find a new favorite. Although you may not see beautiful lighting and decoration, their great service and delicious food compensates for that. Our waitress was so attentive and pleasant. We will return to this restaurant in the near future.
Wonderful morning brunch atmosphere. Great service and beautiful vibes. Stars for the atmosphere. The pizza is a thin bread with a few slices of salmon, not worth it for the price. The french toast was completely bread putting, but it was a wonderful dessert. Overall great place to stop if you are near by, just overpriced.
We were sat immediately and the service was lovely; we ordered the salmon cozy, poached egg and chicken sausage, and soft scrambled egg and spinach toast - all of which were lovely albeit overpriced. It smelled strongly of bacon in the whole place which was both yum and overWhelming. Besides the cost and the heartburn I liked it
Got some good Italian food in a cozy setting on Union St. Had a very good dinner with the Mrs. the other night at Roses. I’ve never been a big olive guy but the marinated olives were great. The clam pasta was perfectly made and had a lot of flavor. The braised beef was cooked perfectly. I wish I ordered desert but what are you going to do. They have a great wine selection and offer friendly service. Not bad.
it was fine. some dishes were pretty good but others fell flat. overall wouldn’t really come back, but glad i tried it. chicken sausage, polenta, spicy tomato: pretty good dish with tasty sausage bread pudding: hard skip. defrosted frozen strawberries on a bland bread pudding. go to tartine instead.
After plenty of research, we trekked across San Fran to dine here! The food was fabulous, outstanding to be fair, unfortunately the service was a disappoint. :( Sad to say, the wait staff weren’t friendly at all. We left feeling like we wouldn’t return. 🥺 Maybe others will have a better experience…
We were just walking through up/down hills for exercise and ended up in this place for brunch! It's a casual local cafe with indoor and outdoor seating with full bar. Service was good with responsive waiters. Food was OK, nothing I can point out or recommend TBH perhaps we didn't order right ones 😁 but overall OK for a Sunday brunch. Hash eggs are (obviously) very potato rich if you mind. Salad was refreshing as it must be, no complain 😉. It's a good stop if you happen to be close by.
Came here on a Sunday morning and ordered the smoked salmon, crème fraîche, and scrambled egg breakfast pizza and an arugula peach salad with ricotta salata. Food came out quickly, which was good. The rest of the experience... far from good. The very expensive pizza was offensively bland and boring, with a crust akin to a soft cracker, skimpy on the crème fraîche, and awkwardly arranged with a tiny pile of flavorless scrambled eggs in the middle. The arugula salad was uneven and, despite its well-meaning combination of ingredients, utterly unremarkable. We ordered a side of toast to put the smoked salmon and eggs on instead of the pizza crust, and it was marginally better, though the toast was partly burnt. Service was great, so it's too bad that what they serve their customers isn't. SF has so much great brunch food that I really can't recommend this place. Maybe it's better for dinner... I'm not going to find out.
