Bewertungen von Split San Francisco
The best and authentic Austrian/ German Bavarian food in San Francisco. Highly highly recommend to anyone that wants to get the real deal! You get it all from the perfect schnitzel to spätzle and sausages that taste like they came straight from home. The portions are great the beer selection is on point. Have to mention the atmosphere, honesty.. feels like home :) Friendly staff, warm vibes and flat out solid food. Coming again soon! 🇦🇹 🇩🇪
Made a Resy reservation pretty easily and got dinner here. There was only one server this evening but it didn’t seem too busy so time management was fine. We ordered the giant pork knuckle, potato cake, and schnitzel. Schnitzel is delicious and the pork knuckle was actually massive and pretty salty so maybe good to get something to cut the taste. Overall satisfied with our food and meal!
We will be back, but next time we're going to be camping out on Sunday afternoon since they sell out of their schweinshaxe almost as soon as they open. So that was the only dissapointment. Otherwise the food is astounding. The last time I had anything Austro-German (Saxon?) was in Liepzig....at a beerhall that's been around for _centuries_. Service was a little slow and we had to remind our otherwise efficient and personable waitperson of forgotten drinks. But at the end of the day the food was impeccable so it's hard to nitpick. The only other missing star was for the wide-screen TV for (American) football. Not a fan. And it really throws off the otherwise genuine beerhall vibe. Parking can be tricky so Lyft is your best friend.
Great Bavarian spot. Super friendly staff, good food and they have 2L boots! Definitely recommend this place!
Great food, price point and atmosphere. The smoked trout salad in particular was outstanding, really light and bright and super well balanced. A gem!
I stumbled upon Leopold’s by accident while searching for dinner along the street, and it turned out to be a great find. The chicken was delicious, paired with nicely cooked vegetables. The chips were also excellent. The beer recommended by the staff was fantastic—I enjoyed it so much I ended up having three! The staff were friendly and attentive, and one of them was even kind of cute, adding a fun element to the experience. Overall, Leopold’s is a great spot for a casual meal with good drinks and friendly service. Highly recommended.
So they do need to reacquaint themselves with salt but food is generally well seasoned. Schnitzel is really good. Soup seems an afterthought. The kitchen can be slow so bring your patience. Service is friendly and good. Don’t rush you out.
Fantastic Wiener schnitzel and an outstanding pretzel. The bier cheese sauce was divine. Great atmosphere, highly recommend if you’re looking for an Austrian dinner spot!
German food is not one of our regular cuisines so I was excited to try this place, based on previous reviews. Unfortunately I did not try the beers so I can’t comment on that but the food was delicious, the schnitzel was my favorite and I’ll definitely be coming back for that. I had the Linzor tort which I thought was way too sweet and the apple strudel was okay, next time I would skip the dessert
We are from Austria and visited San Francisco and to our surprise we found Leopold's Austrian Restaurant. The wine, the beer, the appetizer and entrees were impressive, that's how delicious everything was. From the second we walked in we were treated wonderful, everyone was so friendly. We went back a second time because it was THAT GREAT.
German food is new to me. I loved pretty much everything we ordered, and we ordered quite a bit of food. There were six of us. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
Leopold’s is a really special place, and if you enjoy Austrian/German cuisine, you should definitely visit. We’ve come here twice so far, and each time we’ve had a wonderful experience. The food is exceptional—the best Austrian/German in the Bay Area! The star of the show is the Wiener schnitzel—absolutely incredible! All of the entrees and appetizers we’ve tried have been delicious, especially the käsespätzle and bratwurst. They have a decent selection of German beers as well. Their desserts are sub-par, and I wouldn’t recommend ordering these—but I’m optimistic that they will improve over time. Despite the less than satisfactory desserts, I still give them 5 stars because everything else is amazing, including the atmosphere! It’s just so warm and cozy inside, with hospitable service, you really do feel like you’re transported to an Austrian mountain town for a genuine European experience!
Always trying to find good Austrian or German food, this place did not disappoint! From the great beer options to the perfectly prepared wienerschnitzel and linzer torte, this brought back memories from my youth. It's difficult to find such good establishments as most rely on word of mouth for advertisement, but I am glad I walked by it earlier that day. It was a great meal to end the day!
Great resturant, solid european beer selection. Mike and Carla are awesome hosts, definitely gonna be around more often 👍 Thanks for the stories guys.
I’ve got to say, this might be my favorite restaurant. I come here all the time, the atmosphere is amazing, the food is delicious, the beer is great. It’s a nice place and all around fun time.
Made a Resy for 8 people on a Thursday evening and had a great time! They ring a bell if someone in your group gets a beer boot! Good for big or small groups but might be helpful to have a reservation for groups more than 4. We will definitely be back soon. Our group really liked the goulash and, of course, the schnitzel! I wasn’t sure about gluten free options for me so got the arugula salad (+ chicken) to be safe and I didn’t have any issues with it :)
Wow. This place was amazing. I don’t get the snobbish comments saying otherwise. We enjoyed an excellent Austrian beer and wine. We had the braised short ribs (fall-off-the-bone tender), the bratwurst and sauerkraut, and the bacon-wrapped trout. All three dishes were delicious. Although the trout was a bit dry, the leek medley and broth served with it were exceptional: crisp, tender, and very flavorful. It’s truly rare to find a vegetable accompaniment that shines like this. (Too often the vegetables are just a space filler on the dish.) the beer selection was fun and interesting as was the small selection of international wines. Service was friendly. Atmosphere was warm and cheerful. Oh, and the pretzel was a 4.5 out of 5. And this is coming from a pretzel aficionado, who has eaten them all over Europe and is always looking to replicate and experience in southern Germany.
Awesome place. Only downside was that I wasn't hungry enough to order more. Definitely a great place.
Very good
Food and atmosphere are both 5/5. The service was kinda meh.
Very good Schnitzel, friendly service. Definitely plan to return!
Excellent beer and good, plentiful Austrian dishes, a quiet atmosphere and a small place, very friendly staff.

Great Bavarian spot. Super friendly staff, good food and they have 2L boots! Definitely recommend this place!
Despite an unfriendly manager who was rude to me. The server and waitress were friendly and helpful. Desert was made to order, fresh and very yummy. Coffee was heavenly. The atmosphere was busy They have limited hours.
Went at 11am on a Saturday and the brunch food was actually great, the short rib hash, flatbread and waffles were a hit! Service was pretty slow but overall a nice place, felt like I was at Oktoberfest in there
I recently visited Leopold’s, and it offered a lively and satisfying introduction to Austrian and Central European cuisine in San Francisco. Located along Polk Street, the restaurant captures the spirit of a traditional Viennese beer hall while still maintaining the character of a neighborhood gathering place. The interior features warm wood tones and communal seating that create an energetic and social atmosphere, making it an enjoyable place for both casual dinners and group gatherings. The menu highlights classic Austrian and Central European dishes that emphasize hearty ingredients and traditional preparation techniques. One of the standout items was the Wiener schnitzel, which is a signature dish of Austrian cuisine. The schnitzel was well executed, with a crisp, golden exterior and tender meat inside. The balance between the light breading and the flavor of the meat reflected strong technique and attention to detail. Another highlight of the meal was the selection of sausages and traditional accompaniments. Austrian and German cuisines often rely on rich meats paired with sides such as sauerkraut, potatoes, and dumplings. These components worked together to create plates that were both satisfying and balanced, offering the comforting flavors typical of Central European cooking. The restaurant also places strong emphasis on its beverage program. Austrian and German beers are a natural pairing with these dishes, and the selection offered a range of traditional styles that complemented the food well. The beer offerings contribute to the restaurant’s lively atmosphere and reinforce its beer hall identity. Service during the visit was friendly and energetic, matching the lively character of the dining room. Staff members maintained a welcoming presence and were helpful in explaining menu items and beverage options. Despite the busy environment, the service felt well organized and attentive. The overall atmosphere is one of Leopold’s greatest strengths. The restaurant successfully recreates the communal spirit of Central European beer halls while fitting naturally into San Francisco’s diverse dining culture. It feels like a place designed for sharing food, enjoying drinks, and spending time with friends. Overall, Leopold’s delivers a flavorful and authentic Central European dining experience with well-prepared traditional dishes, a strong beer program, and a lively social environment.
Would go back, so yummy, if not for very rude manager. Not just me but many friends have had bad encounters with this woman. I would love to eat here again, but everyone refuses to return on this woman’s account. Too bad
