Coqueta, next to the beautiful Pier 7, is a wonderful place. They have truly breathed in the Spanish tapas culinary art and make the best attempt at taking you through a journey. Some of these tapas inch close to a Michelin star and yes, some still need a bit of work. But at the end of the day, I do not think there is another tapas place in the city that even comes close. Rather than nit pick and comment on each dish, I'd like to remind you that no matter what you order, the atmosphere, the pier, the service, and the vibe will truly make you happy. It will absolutely be of a 5-star value. Some of the awesome dishes: the croquettes were heavenly, the squid ink paella was quite an experience (although I think it may have been a tad bit dry), cheese plate was well put together, and the churros were to die for. Coqueta is a special place. A perfect date night. A perfect place to defuse a long week's stress with friends and family. Will absolutely return and frequent.
Coqueta offers an outstanding dining experience right on the waterfront. The moment you step in, you are welcomed with warm hospitality and a bustling yet cozy atmosphere. Be prepared, it gets quite crowded in the evenings, so a reservation or early arrival is highly recommended. The tapas-style menu is full of delightful surprises. We started with the croquetas and they were crisp on the outside, creamy inside, just perfect. The grilled octopus with fingerling potatoes was a standout, incredibly tender and infused with smoky, tangy flavors that made it memorable. Every dish was plated beautifully and felt thoughtfully curated. The bar area is a visual treat with its creative cocktail setup. Watching the bartenders craft their drinks with fresh garnishes, fruits, and spices added a fun and engaging element to the evening. The drink selection is impressive, and the views of the Bay from the bar add a touch of elegance to the whole experience. They have a good wine selection as well. Service was excellent from start to finish, attentive but never intrusive. Despite the packed house, our servers were prompt and always available with great recommendations. The ambiance is lively yet refined, making it perfect for a night out with friends or a romantic date. Coqueta is a fantastic spot if you are looking for elevated Spanish cuisine with a modern twist in San Francisco. From the vibrant energy to the flavorful food and inventive cocktails, it’s a place that delivers on every level. Definitely worth a visit!
OMG!! This place is another level of flavor in tapas as well as the cocktails/wine. I spend a couple of hours in Coqueta. Bartender is a piece of heaven on hearth as well the staff. Beautiful people and super excellent service. Tapas are amazing, and wine, too!! I just love this place, and I highly recommend it if you're in San Francisco! Jesus is an excellent bartender and explains the food and wines when it is served! Keep doing excellen tservice!!!
Ambiance, service, and food were all excellent. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant was lively but not too loud. Food was served promptly and fresh. Server checked in with us multiple times to refill our water and make sure that we were OK. Most of the food was excellent. There were a few dishes that I wouldn't order again, but were worth trying (deviled eggs, quail egg pintxos, and duck meatballs). Deviled eggs tasted like any other, but were $15 for 2 half pieces haha. Quail eggs were just OK, just an egg with some aged ham. Duck meatballs were rough and overly livery/irony in flavor. Octopus was excellent, tender with a nice char/smokey/grilled flavor. Well seasoned with some crunch from the crispy suction cups. Potatoes were super crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, with a noticeable and pure potato flavor. Poached prawns were fresh and naturally sweet. The infused oil added another layer and depth of flavor. Food was pricey, but overall experience was excellent and I would highly recommend giving it a try. Great place to eat with a big group of people.
The best Spanish tapas restaurants for special occasions, dates , dinner etc. This fine dining restaurant is one of our favourite restaurants in city. The cocktails are delicious but the food tops it all. I would definitely recommend the eggplant which is sooo good, the patatas bravas, the shrimp , there are two sheimp tapas and both are great, the dates with goat cheese, the deviled eggs, the salmon bites, the croquettas are so soft and these are just Tapas. My husband and I usually just have tapas because they are shareable and so tasty that you don’t need to order the mains. You do need to make advanced reservations however they also have a cover outdoor seating which is usually good too. But weekends best to go early.
I've had many tapas meals over the years, but this one stands out as one of the absolute best. Every dish was a hit—flavorful, balanced, and beautifully presented. The steak was next-level: perfectly seared with a tender center and seasoned just right. Rich, juicy, and satisfying—every bite was a reminder of how good simple ingredients can be when done well. The shrimp came served on a slice of crusty bread, soaking up every drop of its garlicky, olive-oil-laced sauce. It was everything you want from a tapa—bold, buttery, and comforting. The deviled eggs were surprisingly elegant: creamy, with a smoky finish and just the right amount of kick. A classic dish, elevated. And the anchovies? Salty, sharp, and unapologetically bold. They were served clean and minimal—no frills—letting their intense flavor shine. If you’re an anchovy fan, these are dream-worthy. Now, the drinks deserve their own spotlight. The Golden Gate drink was refreshing and citrusy, with just enough complexity to keep it interesting. But the true standout was the iced espresso with Licor 43—YUM! Cold, smooth, with that sweet vanilla depth from the liqueur—it was like dessert and a pick-me-up in one glass. (Recommended by Nikolas) This wasn’t just a meal; it was an experience I’ll be chasing again. Every bite, every sip—pure joy. Our waiter Nikolas made some great recommendations. Thanks!
What an absolutely fantastic dining experience! This restaurant is truly awesome, and a huge part of that is thanks to their incredible manager. She seamlessly found us a table despite the bustling crowd, and went above and beyond to ensure the kitchen expertly accommodated my spouse's allergies. And the food? The paella was simply excellent! We also adored the prime location and the charming outdoor seating. Highly recommend!
My friend recommended this place, and I didn’t know what to expect, but every single dish was absolutely amazing. The paella, in particular, was packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was exceptional. I will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu! The staff were all so friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better.
I had such a great time at Coqueta. Even with the restaurant being quite busy, the service was incredibly prompt and attentive throughout the night. The space itself is gorgeous and cozy, The food was outstanding. The octopus was so tender and had a perfect smoky flavor. We also shared the cheese board, which featured an excellent selection, and the meatballs were absolutely delicious. Highly recommended
Pleasant atmosphere with friendly service and an ocean view. The food and drinks were excellent. Love the balanced flavors of the pork and duck meatballs with cherry salsa—a delightful touch that added a refreshing contrast. The Gulf prawns were fried to perfection, offering a crispy texture and a satisfying garlic flavor.
Coqueta in San Francisco is a culinary delight, offering a truly vibrant and memorable dining experience. From the moment you step inside, the lively atmosphere and stylish decor create an inviting ambiance. The menu boasts an impressive selection of Spanish tapas and larger plates, each bursting with authentic flavors and prepared with high-quality ingredients. Highlights of our meal included the exquisitely cured jamón, perfectly crispy patatas bravas, and my personal favorite, the utterly satisfying huevos rotos. Not to be missed is the stunning pulpo a la parrilla, grilled to tender perfection. And to perfectly complement the meal, the Salt Air Margarita was a delightful and refreshing treat. The service is consistently attentive and knowledgeable, with staff readily available to offer recommendations and ensure a seamless meal. The carefully curated wine list perfectly complements the cuisine. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner or a lively gathering with friends, Coqueta delivers a delightful culinary journey that leaves a lasting impression. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking a taste of Spain in the heart of San Francisco.
Wow, this is some of the most remarkable food. The wait staff is very helpful and descriptive. All of the food was fresh. The seating in the restaurant (indoor and outdoor) can feel a little crammed but it is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in SF. The Bikini eggplant sandwich is top notch. Making reservations on google/yelp is also very easy!
Absolutely fantastic. The cocktails were phenomenal. The tapas toe-curling. And the ambiance unbeatable. My wife and I met up with some old friends and spent the evening sitting outside by the water drinking creative cocktails, sharing sumptuous small plates, and enjoying conversations that we wish we could have more often. This place slaps! No CAP!!!
We had a great time at Coqueta and really enjoyed the food. We tried the 5J ham croquetas, chicken croquetas, boquerones and quail egg skewers, the Gran Chef charcuterie board, and patatas bravas. Everything was high-quality and full of flavor—each bite felt carefully crafted. The ambiance was beautiful, lively but not overwhelming. That said, the service could have been better. We had to flag down other servers a couple of times to get attention, and when we asked for more bread, it arrived after we had already finished our meal. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but for a place of this caliber, we expected a bit more attentiveness. Overall, a great spot for Spanish tapas with fantastic flavors—just be ready for a slightly slower service experience.
Classic tapas style restaurant with paella. We ordered the vegetarian paella because that’s recommended on the menu, but am not very impressed. Will probably try the meat ones next time. From the tapas, I really liked the mushroom. It’s very tender and rich of taste, all the tastes are soaked into the mushroom. Also interesting taste with egg yolk. Also liked the salmon tapas but it’s a little hard to divide and share. The restaurant is at the waterfront and very well furnished. Great spot for a gathering! We had to wait a while for our server from time to time, but overall was okay.
One of the best tapas places I’ve been to! I was not expecting much because it’s located in such a touristy area but they have great cocktails and amazing food. My recommendations are the Salmon cold tapas, grilled iberico, and the squid ink paella. It is a bit pricey but worth it for a nice night out or when people are visiting!
1. Great for family, dates, celebrations, night out. 2. We had paella and steak and they were great. Drinks were also good. I liked that they have a patio seating next to the entrance if you don't want to dine in their main floor. 3. Service was great. Friendly and attentive. Would definitely come back.
Great spot for tapas and outdoor seating! This place offers delicious tapas and excellent service. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. When the weather is warm, they have great outdoor seating, adding another option for a pleasant dining experience.
Looking for an incredible meal on the water? This is a great spot. Food & service were both amazing. We had olives, market greens, branzino & king trumpet mushrooms, all crazy good aside from needing a little more salt. The flavors in all of the dishes are so high quality that they shine in their simplify. So delicious. The one thing I’d definitely recommend to the manager is to change up the music as we heard the same 5 songs on repeat all evening 🙉.
Finally back home in California after a 10 year hiatus! Coqueta was one of my frequent, favorite restaurants to sit, drink, and fish off the pier directly afterward. I love it. Food and drinks are still amazing. Non-alcoholic options that are delicious, too! Friendly staff, great ambiance.
Stopped here without reservation. Host was pleasant and sat us right away. Ate at the chefs counter which was fun to watch all of the dishes prepared. Food was excellent. Had deviled eggs, patatas bravas, smoked salmon, lamb meatballs, and the sea bass. The lamb meatballs were my favorite. Every dish was fantastic. They have a pretty extensive drink menu as well from Spanish influenced cocktails to sangria in addition to beer and wine. Service was excellent as was the atmosphere. This is a staple embarcadero waterfront restaurant and is absolutely worth stopping by.
Coqueta is cozy and spacious; interesting combination. Perhaps it’s the combination of tableware, chairs, decor, lighting and staff that makes you feel like you’re home. The tapas/small plates allow you to sample a variety of deliciousness! My favorite dish, both in flavor and presentation, was the patatas bravas, we gobbled them up before any thought of a pic - sorry fans. We never miss a chance to eat here when in San Fran!
I had always wanted to come to Coqueta, and today turned out to be a lovely night to do so. The food is exquisite; I was quite conservative in my order due to a long journey and a modest appetite, but I couldn't resist trying the Kale salad, a chef's recommendation. I give it a 4/5; the mix of flavors and ingredients creates a delightful taste. I also ordered Smoked Salmon, simple but delicious, and finally I ordered the exquisite grilled octopus, incredibly flavorful. I couldn't leave without trying a dessert, so I opted for the Rice Cake "Biscocho de Arroz" loved it! Different, crunchy, and delicious. All servers and Busser are kind and sweet..! The ambiance is beautiful; it's not a big restaurant, but it feels cute. I will definitely have to come back to try other dishes that piqued my curiosity. Thank you, Coqueta team!
Delicious! I will say the portions can be small for the price (I know, it’s tapas. The portions are meant to be small). But the pan con tomate for example is bread with tomato spread. You can give me more than two skimpy slices. Still, the flavors for everything are awesome, and the servers are kind and quick to refill your water. The croquetas de pollo, the huevos nacionales, and the albondigas were my favorite!
We’ve been frequenting this place for almost four years now and it’s never disappointed us. Truly, the food is so good, the service is quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is fun. I love going on a random Wednesday night and sitting in the bar area. Meatballs are a must, so are the croquettes, potatoes, bread and tomato, dates, and any of the cheese plates. And if you want the best margarita of your life? Salt Air Margarita is for you. This place just kills it every single time. It’s in my usual SF restaurant rotation and it’s consistently good. Love taking out of towners here too because the location is so easy and so pretty. Definitely an SF must try!
I had a great experience at this Spanish restaurant. It offers authentic food from Spain, and I had the patatas bravas which was a potato dish originating from Spain. The restaurant is rather small, however, it provides a cozy vibe overall with its slightly dim lights. Overall, it is a nice Spanish restaurant to visit.
I thought I wrote a review of this restaurant as I go here to eat quite often. Had a small order this time as it was just me, wanted to try other than my usual order. The pintxos were good, I would have ordered more but I ordered paella. Paella’s okay, the shellfish totally shrunk (as if nothing is left), the chocolate cake is perhaps my new dessert go to here!
Been here many times, not to mention the fact we knew Nicolas 🪽, but also Luis and Marko were so polite and lovely, forgot other server name he was so sweet and helpful. The Chef with the red beautiful hair definitely knows what she's doing, hands down. 👏🏻 Steak perfectly cooked, pork shoulder that melted literally, and ice-cream with blood orange flavor on the top of the chocolate cake was literally the explosion of flavors 😋 ( sweet and sour perfection 👌🏻) Have to mention lovely gentlemen in suit that greeted us at the door and later checked on us several times, I believe he's name was Aidan ( I'm sorry if I butchered that). He was pure class and proof of genuine hospitality. 👔 🍽 👏🏻 We will come back as we do, for last several years.
It is an amazing dining experience! The food is delicious. The service is top notched. The atmosphere is rustic and modern.
Delicious upscale creative Spanish food right on the waterfront The Membrillo cocktail with saffron is one of my favorite cocktails in the world!
Loved dining at this place. We stopped here for an early dinner. It's a great location on the waterfront, a perfect place to eat outside on a beautiful day. The hospitality was very good and the service was perfect. They had the foresight to check if we had any allergies when taking our order. They were very on top of making sure we had water and clearing our plates when necessary. We ordered the patatas bravas, the ham croquettes, the octopus, and the grilled duck breast. Everything was delicious, perfectly seasoned and had great flavors. For dessert, we had the churros. Will definitely want to come back here again to try more items on the menu.
Really delicious tapas and paella. The wait staff was wonderful and food was served quickly. Overall a great experience, definitely recommend.
What a gem! Absolutely loved this place. We had the opportunity to stop by and grab some dinner. The tapas options were just perfect. Loved the potato croquettes, the prawns (you need the bread to soak up THAT oil!!). I didn't try the paella but my lord did that look phenomenal.

Melt-in-your-mouth food, awesome service, and just a great place to eat whether you're on a date, with family or friends. And our server, Nicolas (who looks just like Ryan Reynolds) was fantastic! He introduced us to our new favorite, the bikini 😍.

Wonderful decor and tasty food. Right next to the ferry building. All the tapas we ordered are delicious. The black ink paella however was mediocre and $70 is too high. We will come back again to try other items on the menu but probably not paella.

Love love the shrimp with garlic and toast. Also, the seafood paella, smoked salmon on top of toast, grilled octopus, custard desert, chocolate cake is delicious!! The hostess was really friendly, Alma. Naomi is also very sweet. The staff are all terrific and quick! There’s not only one waiter per table, they all help with All the tables. They gave us a great table, comfortable! Love the vibe and high ceilings. Can’t wait for my next visit !!! Oh, the restroom was so so..
Overall this place is a localised Spanish tapas join. Good as they utilise local produces. There were hit and missed in their dishes. Enjoyed their cocktails but also depending on individual preference. Beautiful scenery for outdoor seatings but too cold to enjoy. Sadly.. security for parking not great. Our car window got smashed and our valuables in boot stolen.
This restaurant came highly recommended. We arrived and were immediately seated. We sat outside closest to the water. The atmosphere was modern and buzzing. The service was good as was the food. We had tapas so that we could try many dishes. For dessert we had the churros with chocolate sauce and raspberry powder. Very tasty. The double expressos were just okay and on the small side. Each outside table had an electric heater, that was undersized. All-in-all it was a good meal and look forward to returning and trying additional items.
Came here as a recommendation from a friend and did not disappoint. Great tapa food for having a group of friends chill, conversate and enjoying the moment. The gambas negras was a little different than what I expected but all the other foods were great. Highly recommend getting the patatas bravas.
Ordered the mushroom skewer and the patasas bravos. The mushroom was served with a small cube of cheese and a tiny sliver of Jamon serrano at room temperature, and only 2 mushroom caps. I fell should have had 3 at least. The patasas were good. I recently visited Barcelona this spring. Not as good as the ones I had there which were cubed. These were served whole( bite size). So not as crispy as the ones in Barcelona, although the flavors were spot on. The white wine sangria was delicious. I definitely recommend visiting this spot.
We had dinner here for the first time while visiting San Francisco. It was well rated and we love Spanish dishes. It was Saturday night and they were very busy. We didn’t have a reservation and luckily, they had 2 seats by the bar. The tapas and our wine were delicious. Our server was friendly. The ambiance was lively. I am giving them a 4 star since the portion sizes were small and they were pricey.
we were pleased to find this restaurant centrally located on the embarcadero, just a few blocks from our hotel. having spent time in portugal and spain, we’re always missing good tapas! made a last minute reservation on opentable and was able to get a table on the patio - be warned it can get quite windy and chilly out there. food was a bit mixed with some hits and some misses. i’m a huge fan of eggplant and really wanted to love the “bikini” but i just didn’t feel like the eggplant was done very well here. the duck & pork meatballs had a very strange texture, almost like it was over tenderized which made it taste and feel like it was undercooked. not a fan. the croquetas were really good, crispy on the outside and warm/flavorful on the inside. smoked salmon montadito was excellent as well. just wished the portions were a touch bigger. i do appreciate the server’s offer to customize the number of pieces according to our party size though. the grilled sea bass is the closest we’ve had to those in the algarve - perfectly cooked and seasoned with complementary meyer lemon and olives. topped off with a few glasses of sangria, it almost felt like we were back in europe! if you’re looking for something fun and casual outside of the usual touristy or american seafood dining experience when in SF, i would recommend coqueta.
Dining at Coqueta in San Francisco felt like a journey to the Iberian Peninsula. Everything was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The Branzino tasted excellent, though it was a bit smaller than I expected. Still, I left feeling satisfied, and the desserts were truly outstanding. Service was friendly but a bit slow.
Great food and ambience, more on the non-vegetarian side. The patats Brava is a great dish for vegetarians, the steak is for sharing with 3 or more people, the grilled branzino is amazing. Great service and good selection of wine.
It was a mixed experience. To be clear, the service is incredible. The people there are extremely warm and welcoming and make you feel comfortable immediately. The location is great and on a bright sunny day, absolutely gorgeous Now, coming to food we got the following and here is my take on each so that you can decide for yourself if this place is for you: 1. Pulpo a la Parrilla (Grilled Octopus): Absolutely fresh and delicious. I would have preferred it to have a dressing that contrasts the flavor overall (something citrusy would be incredible here. So you of course get the charred flavor but you do not get anything else. To me it was a bit flat but of course it is a great way to start. 2. Salmón Ahumado (Smoked salmon montadito): My partner tells me it is a 10/10 dish and he loves the freshness of the whole dish. (I dont eat salmon and therefore dont have a take) 3. Gaucho Bistec (Tomahawk ribeye steak): The quality of beef, great. The scallions and the sea salt, great. What is sad is that there is no option whatsoever to get a sauce alongside it. It doesn't come with a sauce and there is no way to even purchase it separately either. It makes the whole experience sub-par. I feel this needs support as a dish. If it had a sauce, I would have wanted to rate the whole restaurant 5/5 but for now, it's going to be at 4 4. Manchego cheesecake: Lovely dessert. I have always been a fan of sheep milk cheeses and it is very refreshing with the raspberry sorbet it comes with. That said, the raisin reduction is a conflicting flavor and I am not a huge fan of how sweet it is. It completely overpowers the the flavor of the cheesecake. 5. We got a bottle of Avinyo, cava BRUT ROSE, Penedés. For the meal, I personally feel it pairs perfectly with everything and brings the whole meal together. My take is that if you are more of a "go natural" and do not add layers to the flavors in dishes kind of a person, you will like it a little more than I did. Overall, it's a nice place to explore and definitely should be on your radar if you are in San Francisco

Great food and ambience, more on the non-vegetarian side. The patats Brava is a great dish for vegetarians, the steak is for sharing with 3 or more people, the grilled branzino is amazing. Great service and good selection of wine.
This place has very nice drinks but the food is nothing outstanding in my opinion. I have tried the octopus and croquetas and they were good but for the price I don’t think they are worth it. The cocktails are good and the best think of this place I think is the vibe and the venue. It has beautiful views and the bar are is very cozy and beautiful. The bar tenders were very nice and attentive.
Coqueta has a really cool vibe that fits perfectly with its waterfront location. The space feels lively and stylish while still being relaxed, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal while taking in the energy of the Embarcadero. The staff was friendly and welcoming from start to finish. Service felt attentive without being overbearing, and everyone seemed genuinely happy to help and offer recommendations, which always adds to the overall experience. The menu is unique and thoughtfully put together, with a variety of Spanish-inspired dishes that feel a bit different from your typical dining options in the area. It’s a great place to share plates and try a few different things, especially if you enjoy exploring new flavors. The food was solid and enjoyable, with some dishes standing out more than others. While not everything was a knockout, the creativity of the menu and the quality of the ingredients made the meal worthwhile. Coqueta delivers a fun dining experience with a great atmosphere, friendly service, and a distinctive menu. Definitely worth checking out if you’re along the Embarcadero and looking for something a little different.

Fantastic food. Great location! The price for the food was overpriced due to it being bite sized pieces for almost $20-30 a pop. The service members do beg for tips which ruined the experience.

Delicious and flavorful tapas restaurant. Beautiful location by the piers. The waiter was great and very attentive as well. The only bad thing here is the rude attitude of hostess wearing glasses on last Wednesday evening. For spending $300 dinner for 2 people (food, alcohol, tips) , it was not worth it to deal with her attitude when you first entering the door.

Beware of getting what you paid for. I ordered two espresso martinis while sitting at the bar. The bartender used Smirnoff vodka, despite the menu explicitly saying it’s mixed with Hangar One. When I asked him about it, he informed me that Smirnoff ($13 per 750 ml) is superior to Hangar One ($29 per 750 ml). Great location, great vibe, great service, and great food. But they are clearly lying about the quality of liquor and at $17 per drink, it’s reasonable to expect an upper shelf liquor especially when the menu calls for it.
