I've been going here since they opened. Its great to see Bill (The founder and original owner), but its great to see the family continue the business. I usually order the whole with maximum extra meat (So I have leftovers for breakfast scrambles.) One of those places where its good when you get it, but amazing when you reheat it in the oven.
So we did a take out mom Z sandwich was a Lil shy on the cheese side we called and they told us to double back they blessed with double our order. We were astonished were old stool and haven't integrity like this since the 90z ,and the sandwiches and garlic fries are off the hook! So bow down all you wannabe sandwich entrepreneurs! And learn a Lil something from yo Original Gangsters Amato's
So having lived years in Philadelphia and knowing what a real cheesecake is all about this is handsdown the closest that you can get to Jim steakhouse on South Street in Philly it’s just like walking right back down south Street. I’ve been going to this place for years at least 20. Highly recommended to anybody that wants a real taste of Philly.
Hanging out with Kinky Lyn the pole dancer at the Hightimes over on Blossom Hill, and she says she wants a roast beef sandwich from Amato's..and we're right in front of the Sourdough Deli! No...She says it's gotta to be Amato's or there's no happy ending for you! So...off we went, and the sandwichs were Amazing! ☆☆☆☆☆
Classic old school counter with by far the best cheese steak in the Bay. I get it with provolone, onions, and sweet and hot peppers. My son swears by the white American cheese. Love this place!
Still just as delicious as I remember! I came here nearly 20 years ago, and the cheesesteaks are still absolutely mouthwatering. Bill, the owner, was off today (it is Sunday after all — well deserved!) but the food and the staff were as friendly and welcoming as ever. A true classic that never disappoints.
The menu has changed from the last time I visit this place. It seems that they’re trying to minimize the amount of items there since most of the items that were removed from the menu were not much ordered by customers. Or it could be that they’re trying to cut costs. Nothing has really changed so far. I find that the fries are better than the cheesesteaks in my opinions since they’re freshly cut with some extra crispiness. Doesn’t really mean that the cheesesteaks are bad. I’m still shocked that not only that small fries are like regular fries but the smallest size of the cheesesteaks, which is shorty, is like a regular size. Pretty much the atmosphere is the same except that they added a kiosk for us to order online. I still say that this is one of the cheesesteak restaurants in the Bay Area.
Decided to try Amato’s since craving Philly cheesesteak and was in the area. Service is good, menu has decent variety. Plenty of seating but it’s quite hot inside the restaurant so we took it to go. We ordered cheesesteak cheese fries with the works. It had a good amount of beef and cheese with onions, peppers and cheese wiz. It’s a good portion for the price. Came out to just under $20.
5/5 Stars - Perfect Spot for a Hearty Lunch Amato’s is an absolute gem! The restaurant is clean and well-kept, with a tidy open kitchen that gives you full confidence in their food hygiene. Portions are generous—definitely enough to satisfy any appetite. The Philly cheesesteak was loaded with tender steak strips, perfectly melted cheese, and flavorful mushrooms. Each bite had the right balance of chewiness and rich, savory taste. The bread was soft and fresh, not too heavy, which made the sandwich even better. Service was fast and friendly, ideal for a lunch break. Plus, there’s plenty of parking, which makes it super convenient. Whether you're stopping by for work or just hungry for a solid meal, Amato’s hits the spot.
Potato skin is delicious! The Persian pizza is the best! It got lots of toppings, taste is really good and the quality is superb compared to other restaurant. Amato supreme is much lighter than the Persian pizza but it’s delicious. The customer service is also very good. We will come back again :)
Awesome comfort food. Consistently yummy, and nice service. We ordered a large "the works" and onion rings. The onion rings were crispy and great with ranch dressing. The sandwich was filled with meat, cheese, mushrooms, onions and bell pepper. We took home a quarter for parents to appreciate. They have chicken too besides beef, but that is the best part.
Very, very disappointing cheesesteaks. We've been coming to Amato's for over 20 years now and have always loved them. Prior to today, we ate here three years ago. It was okay then, not great but just okay. Today wasn't good at all. We got three cheesesteaks and one order of fries for sixty dollars and really didn't enjoy them one bit. Our sandwiches were extremely dried out, almost burned without much cheese. I got "the works" with EXTRA cheese and mushrooms. I could barely find ANY mushrooms and the onions and bell peppers were over-cooked to oblivion. At home I had to open the sandwich up and spray water on the meat and reheat it in the microwave (I finally added some mayo, too). What happened to the screaming good cheesesteaks they used to make? They were so rich with gooey melted cheese with fresh veggies you could actually see and taste. They were highly reviewed with an excellent reputation and took pride in their food. I didn't see any of that today. Their prices have gone up but their quality has gone way down. A real bummer.
I was craving a good sandwich and have been to Charlie’s plenty of times in Orange County (Santa Ana and Orange), and I always love it, so I had high expectations for this place based on the reviews. Unfortunately, it was a total letdown and very disappointing. I ordered the Philly cheese, which was $25, and with the cheese fries it came out to almost $40 way overpriced for the quality. I didn’t even finish my sandwich the meat wasn’t cooked well, had a couple pieces of gristle in it, and was so tough I couldn’t even chew it, as you can see in the photo. The cheese fries were probably better at Wienerschnitzel. The fries had no flavor at all. Overall, not worth it. You’re better off going somewhere else if you’re craving a good sandwich. On top of that, they don’t even serve Coke only Pepsi products.
