Discover this gem serving Burmese cuisine in Willow Glen. It has been open for about six months . The tea salad, with tea leaves, greens, peanut, seed is a special go to dish. The waiter took the time to mix it up at our table. Its texture and taste are both pleasing to the palate. The Shan Tofu is very unique, it has the subtle sweetness with a crisp skin, unlike other tofu dishes, it is another must try. The pork belly with green mustard is nicely done too. I would come back for the Tea Salad and Shan Tofu.
First time there. Food was great. Service was good. Atmosphere was surprisedly very western. Since I am not an expert on Burmese cuisine, I cannot quite tell if the food was authentic or not.
Fast, friendly and quite delicious! I would have loved a squeeze of lemon on our tea leaf salad but the portions were lovely and generous for two people :).
Oh my God! Where did this place come from?! We were sat in a beautiful outdoor patio with plants and a fountain in the square and when the food came it looked Ike it was right out of a Food Network competition. After the first bite you could instantly tell it was fresh food and they had a serious chef and staff. The crazy part? It was ~$50 for my wife and I with an appetizer. The lamb in my chow mein was fantastic. The samosas were also fantastic.
The food was delicious. We ordered Tea Leaf Salad (Traditional style), Samosa soup, Burmese Chow Mein, Asian Fried Rice and Lettuce Wrap.
🔔NEW RESTAURANT ALERT!! New Burmese place in Willow Glen and this makes me so happy. Great food - we ordered samosas, palata, tea leaf salad, stir fry tofu, crispy chicken and rice. Food was delish, my 3 year son enjoyed it too. Great indoor outdoor seating
Came here on Mother's Day and got a generally excellent experience. The waiters are kind, positive, and quick - we got our food in under 10 minutes. The food itself is great with large portion sizes, especially the samosa soup and desserts. My only complaint is that the spice level was fairly low.
We did takeout and it was phenomenal. The tea leaf salad was really unique and amazing salad, highly recommend it. The pumpkin veggie was also fabulous.

Fantastic place. Very classy. Friendly great staff. Food was fun to try something new. Plenty to share.
This was my first visit. The restaurant feels like it's at a bit higher price point than it is. It has a fresh feel to it and the food is very good. I had the Basil Lemongrass Shrimp with a side of brown rice. My only minor issue was the shrimp still having the tails on them which is really awkward when the dish is warm and saucy. Overall very nice and will have to put it on the rotation list when I'm on the area.
Happy to have this yummy place in the neighborhood. Friendly service, food was on the table quickly and my family all enjoyed it. Best bites for us were the basil lemongrass chicken, tea leaf salad and coconut rice.
Fast and courteous service!! Loved the food and ambience as well.. The black pepper swai was buttery, flaky and spicy! And the noodles were very different... Great mix of eggs and chicken and soft rice noodles
We have dined in and also have gotten take away. Every time the food is delicious. The walnut shrimp is one of our favorites; we get it every time. The Burmese noodles with chicken or tofu are delicious. Tried the pork belly, spicy, and it’s a new family favorite too. AND I almost forgot to mention the lovely tea leaf salad, my personal favorite. Restaurant has cozy dine-in atmosphere. Lovely, friendly staff. Burma Roots is a great dining addition to downtown WG.

Been here three times in the past three months, each time has been great. Staff is super friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and attentive to the right level. The venue is at the old Opa and is a welcome addition to Willow Glen. In my opinion, Burma Roots is the best in the South Bay, can't wait to return.
Overall, food is great & the price is fair given their large portions. Would come again. ± Burma House Noodles are flavorful, although a tad too sweet & could use some spice. Portion is large & good for sharing. ± Burma Crispy Chicken: also flavorful with a nice crispy outer shell, but is also a bit too sweet and overly saucy. + Atmosphere is pleasant and service is good.
Went on a Saturday evening with friends. No problem getting a table for 6 at 7:30 pm. Very good food. Reasonably priced for the Bay Area. We had the tea leaf salad, minced jalapeños chicken, House noodle with shrimp and all of it was good. Public Parking lot right behind the restaurant.
6/10 Garlic Noodles Chicken: Doesn’t taste garlicky, thin noodles that have a strange aftertaste to them. Chicken is pretty good. 8/10 Pineapple BBQ Pork Rice: Love the pork flavor and pineapple rice! Would definitely get again! 7/10 Mango Chicken: A bit spicy, mango slices are delicious with the chicken. Chicken is a little weird too, rubbery and soft texture. Still a great dish. Enjoyed our time here, service was a bit slow and prices are high, but I would go here again! Although the other options on the menu are a bit strange for someone who doesn’t eat this often.
Samosas are fine but there is no tamarind sauce. Some in our party loved the samosa soup; some were less enchanted. The Burnese curry was delicious. Mango chicken was reported to be excellent. Burmese string beans were very tasty. Wait staff attentive, excellent. Bring a sweater for outdoor tables in the evening.

Ordered take out so my review is based solely on food. The place does loom nice and it does seem like a chill place to eat. I ordered the tea leaf salad, nan gyi dok, ginger pork, and chicken biryani. Tea leaf salad was only lettuce. No cabbage. The nan gyi dok was kind of bland. Expected more flavor and the chicken was kinda dry. The ginger pork was nice as there were decent strips of ginger and the ginger flavor was strong. Overall, the food is average, as other Burmese places are better, but there are so few around. I do hope they succeed though. Don’t expect much getting ethnic food in Willow Glen.

Overall, the food was ok. My tea leaf salad was very bitter because way to much tea leaf in the salad. Chicken Biryani was very tough, side salad was good. My friend like the Burmese Chicken Curry, ice cream and cocktail. My opinion way too many choices on the menu. Staff are nice and friendly. I'm not sure I would go back.

If you are looking for “authentic”, don’t go here. If you want interesting flavoured food then, yes, do go here. This review is for those people actually looking for “authentic”. Do not get the Rainbow Salad. Lacking some ingredients, especially the tamarind sauce. When asked for tamarind sauce, I was brought DILUTED Chinese sweet and sour sauce! No tamarind in sight. It was confirmed by the server that this was Burma Roots’ “tamarind” sauce. 👎🏻 The Fish Chowder Noodle Soup (Moat Hingar) was another miss. This dish is a Burmese staple for goodness sake. Get it right. Not a fish in sight. (At least nothing that resembled fish). And tasteless. The Coconut Noodles Soup (0hn Noe Kout Swel) was acceptable. I would order this again. I frequent the BURMA TWO restaurant in Walnut Creek. No contest. BURMA TWO wins by miles. And they spell the name of the Burmese food correctly. 🧐 Again, if you are NOT looking for “authentic”, I WOULD recommend eating here just to get a flavour of another country’s food, albeit non-authentic.

Went on a Friday night with 2 friends. Parking was pretty tough, we parked in the plaza parking garage but had to circle around for a bit. Sat right away, the place was pretty empty. The first server we had was very nice. The second server we had (white guy) was not helpful & disregarded us. The food tastes good until an hour later when we went home and all had a bit of food poisoning. We were excited to introduce our 1 friend to Burmese food (they've never had it) & now they're traumatized. Only reason I didn't give it 1 star is because I believe there's a lot of room for improvement. But until then begging y'all to go to any other Burmese restaurant.
Dear Burma Roots: As promised, here is our review of the terrible service we received, for the second time, at your new restaurant. What is particularly sad is that the food was very, very good (hence the one star). However, the first time, everyday--appetizers, mains, drinks, came at one time. So, we asked if the mains could be kept warm until we had the apps. The restaurant wasn't busy, so it's not like we were holding up a table. This time, one of the two of us got her delicious dish, but it took more than 10 minutes (we timed it) for the second dish to arrive. Before the happened, I talked the host, who made the excuse that "most people eat family style," one dish at a time, which kind of doesn't explain why everything came at the same time last time. Or why that wasn't what we observed with other parties. Why can't businesses just take responsibility? Just own up to the kitchen got behind, or the server was on a break, or whatever, and apologize??? The host actually blamed us for not telling the waitperson that we were not sharing although we very specifically and clearly ordered separately. We came the second time despite the poor service the first time because we thought, well, you're new in this location, so maybe you're working out the kinks on service. Apparently not. The kinks are a feature, not a bug. Again, both of our dishes were really good, but our server was too busy chatting and folding napkins to check on our food or whether we wanted more very mediocre iced tea. We had such great hopes for this place because one of us is vegetarian. But we won't be back and will be sharing this review on all review sites we can find. Why? Because this level of poor in-person service has become a norm in eat-in restaurants as they are overtaken by delivery service. Attention just is not on diner experience. We, like many people, have just had enough. We like to see all small businesses in our community succeed, but it helps no one to put up with crappy service. Do better.
