Saapaaduu is a South Indian restaurant known for flavorful dishes and excellent service. The Chatti Choru and Chicken 65 are highly recommended. Some found the portion of curry in the thali small for the price.

I recently visited Saappadu and had their Chatti Choru, and it was an absolute delight! If you are looking for that authentic, comforting "home-cooked" feel, this is the place to be. The quality of the ingredients really stands out. The Chatti Choru was flavorful and hit all the right notes—it felt healthy yet indulgent. Every side dish on the plate complemented the rice perfectly. • Taste: 10/10. Great balance of spices. • Quantity: Very satisfying; the portion size is more than enough for a hearty meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful—clean, welcoming, and has a great aesthetic that makes the meal feel special. To top it off, the service was excellent; the staff was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Final Verdict: Highly recommended for anyone craving high-quality, authentic South Indian cuisine. I’ll definitely be back
Finally went to try this place , which is close to the Plex, place is small and Cozy. Very Clean and nice decor. Classic Dosas and idly were really good. Sambhar was a little on spicy side for kids, but tasty. All chutneys were good. We tried chicken Keema dosa, regular masala dosa, Chettinad Chicken and Parotta. Irani chai was good too.
Tried Saapaaduu and really enjoyed the food. We ordered Apollo chicken, sukha mutton, and a cauliflower appetizer, all were flavorful and well cooked. The kuttu parota was soft and paired nicely with the dhaniya paneer. Finished with almond halwa, which was rich and not overly sweet. Filter coffee is the best Good portions, authentic taste, and friendly service. Definitely worth coming back.
Such great fusion and combination of flavours! We love the food here. Staff is extremely friendly and nice. Super great dine in experience. Badam Halwa is best dessert here.
We had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! The food, ambience, and service were all outstanding. Special thanks to Karthikeyan, who gave us amazing recommendations — we tried Chatti Choru, Kizhi Parotta, chicken lollipops , along with Blue Pea Basil Lemonade and Jigarthanda. Everything was packed with authentic South Indian flavors and beautifully presented. The use of brass dinnerware added a unique and traditional touch. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for flavorful food, great service, and a memorable dining experience in San Jose, California!
Fast service, great atmosphere, and yummy food!! The restaurant was spacious with seating and the music was pleasantto listen to while eating. Also, the Chicken 65 is to DIE FOR 😭 We also ordered Chettinad Chicken Curry and the Seeraga Samba Chicken Biryani. Everything tasted so delicious and I would come back here again 100%.
This 5 star review was recommended by my 5 yr old daughter. She loved the chicken-65 and the biriyani! I tried the chatti choru with chicken. The chatti choru was delicious: the rasam, the sambhar, avial and all other curries with it. The food felt like very well seasoned and well cooked. It felt authentic and homely. A hidden gem! The price was reasonable.
Nice lunch place, ordered cauliflower fry Mini idli Panner butter masala Poori Tava dry Panner biryani All decent food taste. Service was really nice, no waiting, once ordered via toast app. In matter of minutes food started showing up. Extremely nice presentation and its gold plated Plates, spoons, etc. lovely ambience ! Courtesy staff and easy going. Would def recommend this place.
Wonderful presentation of their modern take on thaali. None of the individual items are extra ordinary or so called very authentic however when it’s assembled and presented together in the manner it’s done, it brings out the uniqueness. I would have liked it even more if it was served a little warmer. This was my second visit, and the taste is consistent. Besides this, tried the chicken lollipop in starters and Chicken biriyani made with seeraga samba rice. They were all good, not very spicy but flavorful. Everything served in the brass like utensils gives a great traditional vibe. One suggestion for the Chatti Choru dish is to offer half a piece of some flatbread choices (rumali roti/parotta) by reducing the quantity of rice to make it a balanced meal.
We had the veg and the non veg chatti chor and filter coffee. Delicious food, very tasty and satisfying! This was our first time in person at the restaurant, after having had their food delivered home/office many times! They have done a great job with the ambiance and the space, with great attention to detail from the layout, cutlery, and especially the food. I love the artwork inside as well as on their to-go cups and boxes! The staff was very attentive as well. Bala and others were very hospitable, while also being quite busy (Sunday and the day before Diwali!)
I and my husband are from Calgary, Canada and was around this area for some work. We stumbled upon this place while walking. My husband was skeptical as he does not like South indian food and I am die hard lover of this cuisine. At first I was disappointed that they did not have dosa and sambar vada in their menu. We both ordered diwali special thali (one mutton and one veg). Bouy! This place didn't disappoint at all. Food was scrumptious. Not at all spicy. It was too much for me so i packed my left over.My husband even said that if this place was in Calgary, i would go every other week to have food. We never found any place like this in calgary. Also to add on, they have this menu Barcode, where while sitting on table I can order food and edit instructions. I do not have to talk to staff at all. Obviously if something you need, you can ask staff and even can make order. As an introvert, I would like to talk less and loved this concept. If I am around this area next , I would definitely visit this place again and would recommend 👌
We are traveling from Seattle and are big fans of this restaurant. It is a must-try place in California. The food is delicious, served hot and fresh, which definitely enhances both the flavor and the overall dining experience. Mr. Bala, the manager of the restaurant, is excellent at what he does—very friendly and welcoming. He takes great care of the customers and is always polite and considerate. This is truly a must-try place in San Jose. We ate a variety of dishes and loved every one of them.
I went after an year and had good food 🍛 Last year I tried chatti choru and biryani (loved it) Now we tried veg chatti choru, plantain fry, kozhukattai, coffee and loved all of them Chatti choru after the appetizers felt full but food was yummy and so was the service. Thanks to Baala (manager) and your team for patience on a last customer and apologies for finishing late. We appreciate your time. Also thank you for kind words and warm ambience and service again😊
Party of 2 went for dinner around 6pm on a Thursday in August. The place was empty and we were seated immediately. We had the pavbhaji-poori-chaat style appetizer which was very delicious and served quite hot. Also had parotta with chicken chettinad curry which was definitely a bit spicier than I was able to handle gracefully. Good quality food, quick and friendly service. Total including tips and taxes came to just under 50 bucks.
A very rustic and flavorful mutton curry at Saapaaduu, best characterized by minimal processing, deep, earthy spices, and traditional slow-cooked techniques that bring out the bold flavors of the meat and aromatics. Felt like I was eating at a busy diner back in India known for meats and flavors. Highly recommend this place for the delicate balance of spices and wonderful service. Looking forward to returning soon!!
My go to for dosa and butter chicken! This is a South San Jose gem. Lots of parking, service is excellent, and everything that I have ordered here has been tasty, flavorful, and delicious. The vibes are chill, music is great, and ambiance is casual yet modern. Their drinks are absolutely delicious too. I always order the masala chai.
Heard good reviews from friends so came to the place to see what it was about. We ordered the Apollo Chicken for starter based on the staff recommendation and it was yummy. Super tasty full of flavors (spicy, tangy, gravy) and tawa chicken sukka biryani which was ok and more like pulav or masala bhaat(Mumbai dish). Overall a good food place that has nice subtle and homely feel. Came back again and the food was perfect and felt content after so long. Ordered this time chicken lollipop and the best so far. The gobi starter was yummy too. This is now my one of the fav spots to eat. Only thing is to improve the seating area.
We will definitely go here again to try different dishes! We had Veg pakoda, Chicken Lolipop, Paneer butter masala, Rumali roti, and kothu Parotta and Basmati rice. Rumali roti was little bit dry and extra crispy where I was expecting it to be a but softer. Great service! We went there closer to end but still very welcoming service.
This charming South Indian restaurant offers a cozy ambiance and exceptional service. Despite a few minutes of waiting on a busy weekend, we were promptly seated. The menu featured a delightful array of dishes, including Malli cauliflower, masal vadai, kizhi parotta paneer, mutton keema kizhi parotta, and mutton biryani. The Malli cauliflower was a standout, one of the best cauliflower starters I’ve ever had. The masal vadai was also enjoyable, while the kizhi parotta was a top-rated dish. The presentation was impeccable, with the parotta perfectly soaked in gravy and cooked to perfection. The mutton biryani was flavorful and worth trying. Overall, this restaurant provided a great experience, especially for those who enjoy South Indian cuisine, particularly Tamil food. It’s a must-visit for anyone seeking a taste of authentic South Indian flavors.
We tried the chati choru (veg and goat) meals along with the chicken 65 appetizer. The chari choru is basically a bowl with a bed of rice and different curries served atop it. They served raw banana poriyal (dry stir fry), sambar, onion curry, rasam, tomato Chutney and fresh pickle with the rice in the vegetarian version. The goal chari choru had a goat curry and stir fry instead of the veg stir fry. It did not come with a dessert side, which is something I would’ve expected in a thali-like offering. The service was good and the restaurant had limited seating inside. Since it was a rainy day, I didn’t notice any tables or diners eating out around the porch. Portion size was adequate for one and the spice level was mild. The filter coffee was strong and came in a beautifully illustrated cup.
After hearing a lot about this restaurant, we finally made it today for lunch. Food was okay, I ordered a vegetarian thali, (Chatti Choru) and a mutton thali which I paid 16.99 + Tax per each. The bowls were full of rice barely any curry. It was a disappointment. Chicken 65 was good! Ordered mutton sukka, it came a dry curry and it was sweet.😞 Chef's special: Seeraga Samba Chicken Biryani was a disaster no flavor no taste. Chicken Tikka masala was okay. And Parotta was supper dry as it was already made, they just warmed up and gave. Overall it was okay, but no second time!
