Unrivaled baked goods for the local area. The donuts are nearly Krispy Kreme-level. Arrive at opening if you want access to the whole inventory of donuts, bars, holes, croissants, loafs, cookies, and turnovers. Amazing prices too. Support local business.

This bakery has delicious pastries and fresh assorted breads. I love their croissants and banana bread. They have donuts and chocolate breads too that are so good!

This place is special... Some of my favorites include chocolate croissant, brownie/banana nut loaf, garlic sour dough baguette, jalapeno cheese bread... And I dare you to compare their pillow soft French bread to store bought. You'll move to San Juan Bautista just to be closer to this place!

Daniel Durham

Food is good, but staff of 1 person, not so interacting with customers

Excellent breads, turnovers, pies (apricot was my grandpa's favorite), and other goodies at this long-time small town bakery. Friendly staff, tables and chairs to sit and enjoy your selection. You can also pick up the local weekly paper and get info on events and happenings around SJB.

Delicious bakery! The hamburger buns they make there are too die for, I always buy some and grill some burgers when I get back home and omg!🤤 all there sweet pastries are also excellent I always have to visit this bakery when I’m that area.

What an awesome little shop in this tiny town. Well worth the stop and not far off 101. If you are looking for fresh baked items, plz stop here. Keep the little mom & pop shops going. Some very unusual breads as well including brownie bread & Portuguese orange nut bread. This place is also the visitors center for SJB. Stop in to see what else there is to do in town.

Not much of a Selection but I got they're late in the day everything is pretty much sold out picked up a loaf of fresh bread and a couple cookies didn't know how good the bread was until I got home and opened it up it was awesome as close as homemade as you can get I hope the return someday

Always stop at this iconic bakery anytime I'm in San Juan Bautista. It has changed ownership over the years but the French bread is top notch and bakery goods are always freshly made.

Poppy seed bread, Pumpkin bread, Banana bread and more! This little hidden gem is fantastic! If you're traveling, stop in and get some treats for the road. Thank you Lupe, we love coming in just see you!

Best place in town! If you're coming to San Juan Bautista you need to stop here. Chocolate brownie bread is the bomb! And so is the French bread and danishes. Can't be beat! The know my Serna family well. Haha we may come too much.

We went in on our way home, we were looking for fresh Jalapeño Cheese Bread, The girl said that they didn't make Jalapeño Bread on Sunday but they did make Garlic Cheese Bread, It was Yummy, We tore off parts and ate it on the way home

We had the opportunity to stay overnight at the lovely Posada de San Juan hotel after playing music at Mom and Pop's, but another unexpected treat was walking into San Juan Bakery and getting an Apricot Turnover and an Orange Cranberry Loaf. OMG is not to be taken lightly. This was the BEST turnover I've ever had and I come from a family of cooks and bakers!!! My only disappointment was that I should've bought more!!!! I will definitely be back!! I love SJ Bakery and SJB!!!

Lucky enough to work nearby. Their turnovers are an office favorite (guava and mango filled are my personal favs). You can get 12 for $24. They also sell donuts, breakfast pastries, and breads.

I loved the atmosphere, guest service, fresh and tasty variety of donuts and pastries. The coffee was very good, and you could look at local artwork while dining.

I'm in my 50's. We used to come here all the time when I was a child. Last time I visited was 1994. It was still the same. So glad it's still there. Wonderful bread.

This is the best bakery I have ever found, I live in Los banos and will drive to San Juan Bautista just for the goodies that they make!!!!! I have never found a better bakery I recommend to anyone that I talk to about bakeries.

Haven't been here since I was a kid. Bread is still good, but look's like it's going under. Very sad

The place to go for a quality donut, and process are amazing. They also sell fresh loaves of bread and other assorted pastries etc

Make sure you walk out with a loaf of cinnamon bread. And when was the last time you ate a fresh, old school donut with maple sugar topping?

There aren't alot of bakeries in Friday Harbor, fortunately this is a good one. We each had a quiche and it was perfect. Lots to choose from. Outside eating area only, service is fast and friendly.

Cute little place. Get their early for the best goodies. The apple fritter bites were amazing. And the cinnamon roll and ham and cheese croissant were really good. Lots of freshly baked bread and rolls that looked amazing too. I really wanted to try one of the turnovers or muffins but we had already gotten more than enough stuff.

We always come here before seeing the mission and my son is always happy with all the choices of cookies and breads that they have. They have a lot of different cheese breads so that's one of the super into.

We loved the little bakery right on the Main Street. It had tons of baked goods and we got some jalapeño bread and brownies. The old fashioned donuts and cookies looked enticing as well!

Stumbled upon this GEM when visiting the Mission. It has to be the single best bite we have had in a long time. We bought two each of the cream filled chocolate and maple glazed doughnut holes and then kicked ourselves for not getting full sized ones after eating them later. We are seriously considering how we can justify going back (we live in Oregon) just to have more. We also bought a cherry tart and it was delicious as well. These people know what they are doing. If you are any where near....say 100 miles make it a point to stop in. You won't be sorry.

J

The cherry bun was great not too sweet not too bitter, it was just right. While my family got other sweet bread, they love it 👌

We stopped in Sunday morning to grab some pastries. They lady working was so friendly. It was so hard to decide because everything looked so amazing. So we grabbed an assortment of goodies to go. The Mexican Wedding cookies were fantastic! The blueberry cream cheese strudel was yummy. Prices are so reasonable that it is hard not to go crazy. I will definitely stop by again.

I love stopping here on a trip to the peninsula. The ham and cheese croissants are tasty and filling and the donuts are decadent. No real cream for their coffee, however, so I give it a pass. Haven't gotten a pie from them in a while, but we loved the apricot.

M

Fresh bread! perfect and warm out of the oven, call first to see if its done. The donuts are delicious, blueberry donuts on Sunday I think. We make sandwiches with the bread the next day, French toast on the second morning and if any of our 3 loaves aren't done yet. bread pudding on the third day.

This is where the Berta Family loved to buy Sourdough French Bread whenever they were near. It is a Soft Crust type, and is most Delicious! Whenever I would come down this way for one of my regular Adventures on the Ranches in Carmel Valley with Real Life (Horse Whisperer) Ray Berta.... I would buy at least 4 Loaves of it for my Aunt Mary, and Uncle Leo Berta, and my Cousins.... but the Loaves would never even last for one Weekend!!!!! Such good Bread!!!! They make so many other good things there as well..... and it is such a Quaint Little Store, I absolutely Love it! Oh man, I want to go drive down there for some Loaves right now!!!!!!!!!!

This is a little gem and a throwback to an earlier time. Their selection of breads is amazing. They have some wonderful turnovers and the cookies are to die for. The ladies behind the counter were helpful, courteous and just downright nice. The place doesn't impress from the outside, but it'w what's inside that counts. If you are in San Juan Batista, don't miss this great little place.

A delicious mid-century style bakery with a honest hometown charm and delicious baked goods, breads, and pastries to reward determined travelers. Everything I've tried so far is fantastic but the jalapeno-cheese bagels are deceivingly delicious. Unlike traditional cheese-on-top bagels, these inconspicuous round pastries are imbued with cheese and jalapeno flavor, making every bite as flavorful and savory as the next. This is a must-go when on you're on the way to the Central Coast.

My aunt and uncle used to own this bakery in the 60s - 80s. It was awesome back then and the few times I have visited since than. My aunt Galdys was the mayor back then. Best pastry I have eaten along with the bottle of coca-cola I had in morning when we visited.

R

DELICIOUS spinach and feta croissant, it was so flaky and buttery and cheesy. To die for. I wanted to buy a lot more but told myself I would come back, which I definitely will. Great place to grab a little French style breakfast.

Delicious! Such a treat, between this place and Verve, I have a reason to visit SJB. The breads are great, although they are shaped like a bread loaf its kinda halfway between cake and bread. And cookies! and MACAROONS get 'em if they're fresh, can't say no.

S

Old school aromas and a touch of new permeate this old town historic bakery, their 100 year old oven gives all bake goods a distinctive flavor. A great place to sit and sip coffee with your friends

I am pleased to say that the San Juan Bakery is back, has been back, and will be back for a long time to come. Any old timers familiar with their famous french sourdough from over twenty years ago will also likely know that when the Bakery sold in the late nineties the French bread went to... Toast (no pun intended). Anyways the past is over, and new owners who understand the greatness of what the bakery used to be have bebuilt it to it's former glory. So I say to there. Show up early! While the bread is still warm! Buy two loaves and eat one in the car without remorse.

Freshness, homemade flavor from every baked item I have savored, makes this bakery my go -to dessert shop. The spicy mango empanada or any fruit filled item in the display case equals in DAILY FRESHNESS as well as any items in the cookie display or on the sweet bread shelves, including almond poppy seed, banana brownie . . . Baquettes and sour dough loaves are daily baked as well.

J

Is the sourdough bread REALLY sour? Looking for old school, tart, tangy sour flavor- seems hard to find without driving up to the bay area. Anyone know?

The baked goods are super tasty, but the selection can be bare and they keep strange hours. Probably just the nature of the location in SJB...

This is hardly a "bakery". The only thing worth going for are donuts, and they are not anything special. The bread is a joke, very amateur. Sourdough? They've never heard of it. The original baker quite a couple years back and it just isn't good anymore. No cakes, no coffee (except a gas station style carafe), I honestly don't know how they are still in business. Glorified donut shop.

I am so grateful that this is the worst bakery on earth or I would probably weigh 300 pounds! Maybe the coffee is edible (or should I say drinkable) to be fair I haven't tried it. It is still in business so somebody likes it.

We stopped thru hoping to find some squaw bread (which we could find here years ago). Not even sure the 2 yound ladies there knew what I was talking about. Anyway, decided to get 2 loaves of bread...lemon poppy seed, apple coffee cake and some donut holes. The donut holes were very good. However, when we tried the lemon poppyseed (when we arrived home), it did not taste right. No lemon flavor at all and tasty like mold. The apple coffee cake was better, but just not very tasty. I would think for 16.00 a loaf, it would be good. We threw out the lemon poppyseed and fed the other one to our chickens. Huge waste of money.
