Cracker Barrel in San Marcos is generally well-regarded for its country atmosphere and friendly staff, especially servers like Alison and Emily. Breakfast served all day and biscuits are highlights. Some complaints mention long waits, inconsistent food quality, and items being out of stock.

Always chili in there. Bring a jacket. Tons of great comfort food. They serve alcohol now. The bomb pop mimosa was interesting and very sweet. Steal, pancakes, fish, burgers, and more. Don't forget to visit the store for old fashioned candy, jewelry, clothes, decor, and games. Christmas time is my favorite in there.
We drive in from New Braunfels to visit. There was virtually no wait when we arrived for dinner. Our server took our drink order not long after and brought out cornbread and biscuits. Our dinner didn't take long to come out. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great! Service was awesome 👍🏽
So glad ours in Conroe tx. Did not go woke! It was packed. The food was good, service was good for the amount of people in there. We had a 15min.wait .
Very good food as always. Took a while to get it out but not bad
The food was amazing the server must have been tired because she barely came to refill our drinks, we had to ask for utensils and napkins. The overall experience was great. I had the beef campfire dish highly recommend it was savory and the meat was very tender. Go get y’all some good country food.
My family and I have been frequenting Cracker Barrel for many years. Today, at the San Marcos location we had the best service experience of all in a server named “Faustino.” Attentiveness, eagerness, sensitivity — everything — he provided the best experience we’ve ever had.
My sister, niece, and I enjoyed our food here. My niece ordered the meatloaf and my sister and I shared the chicken fried steak plate because the chicken fried steak portion was too big and we didn't want to be carrying leftovers with us. Our waitress was super nice, I don't remember her name.😋👍
The food and the service was incredibly well. The only small problem I had was I ordered some over medium eggs. And they brought me out some watery eggs. But the manager was really quick about everything and so was the server. They both did a wonderful job helping me out. And making sure that my visit there was 100%. They took care of me 100%. And even gave me my money back they wanted to make sure that I was happy no matter what . It's is today's date. The manager and the lady that took me did a wonderful job. The cooks just need to pay attention a little bit more to the ticket. It did say over medium. But my overall experience was superb
Food like always was on point. The service lacked a thad bit this time but usually always great. The fried chicken like always good. Prices are still good.
We couldn't have picked a better time to visit this location because The Lone Star Santas( one told me I was on the nice list 😁) were in there deep, lol. Now, about the food and service... The wait was about 25 minutes and then we were seated. We ordered the Southern Fried Chicken which came with 4 pieces of chicken and 2 sides. The bread we received while waiting was hot and so good. When the food arrived (shortly after ordering) I had to try the Mac N Cheese first. It did not disappoint!! All the food was hot, well prepared and delicious. Braden was our outstanding waiter who is the epitome of excellent customer service! He was attentive, highly knowledgeable, and provided a friendly experience while training a new employee! Great location, friendly staff, delicious food! I'll be back for sure!
So glad they didn't change anything. Food was great. Atmosphere was great. Love seeing all the old stuff on the walls and looking through three shop.
Unrealistic wait time! Management decided not to tell us that the “half hour” wait would turn into almost two hours. And anyone would think “why didn’t you leave?” Well, minute after minute one believes that they will call you “soon”. It’s great that this business is in such high demand. However, psych yourself that if you go for breakfast, moldy likely you will be getting lunch. In a better note, our server was great and apologetic about a situation that is not under her control. This is a good challenge for management. I’m having second thoughts about coming back.
Love this place, great food, great service. it's very busy on the weekends so it can be a little difficult to find parking.
I always update people about place service an food. Always Great! Thank you. Meat loaf, carrots an mash potatoes An unsweetened tea. With 4 other family members. Our server was very helpful.
Not sure what was going on that day. My husband ordered meatloaf and it was a tiny little dried up square that looked like it came out of a TV dinner. He didn't complain but said flavor was good. Waitress kept forgetting parts of our order as well. We've always enjoyed Cracker Barrel but hadn't been there in a while due to trying to watch eating out due to cost.
The service is always friendly here, and the food is fast and consistent. Love the price point and the fact that they're close to a main highway so it's great when I'm traveling long distances. To keep my choice healthy I'll spend a few extra bucks to upgrade to a salad as one of my sides.
Love coming here for some good sunday brunch! I wilk say this location is packed and will probabbly require some forward planning as it is always busy here. The food is definitely worth the wait and the wait staff is always friendly and nice even though it seems like they always have an army of people to feed. Great overall expereince, will be back.
Amy from San Marcos Outlet Crackers Barrel was our wait staff and she was super sweet. We had 2 late comers and the staff was on board and eager to help them get some delicious breakfast! I LOVE CRACKER BARREL. No matter which location. It’s a place I know they are on point with food!
Everyone enjoyed their meal. This restaurant located at Tanger Outlet is my favorite Cracker Barrel. The food is warm and staff members are friendly. It is fun looking looking at nostalgic items on the walls and shopping at the clearance section in the general store. I do wish they had placed us near the fireplace. Where we sat was cold ... really cold.
We always enjoy our visits to Cracker Barrel. The food is well cooked and the service is great. The shrimp plate had a lot if shrimp, I was pleasantly surprised.
Sometimes ordering here has been fair and others with poor service in regards to what we wanted but they have always made it right. This last visit eating inside was amazing on such a busy day due to the young server ALISON. She went above and beyound even when she was swarmed to make us feel at home and be satisfied. Not once did she falter to refill drinks and check up on us. She is totally awesome and will definitely be back because of her serving. Give her some stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Decided to make a food stop on the way home and I’m glad I chose Cracker Barrel! Got the special of the day which was chicken and rice with a side of country green beans and Mac n cheese! It was delicious! The loaded hash brown tots were bomb! And of course the pancakes had that southern taste with nice crisp edges! Our server Darryl was excellent! Don’t forget to check out their shop, very nostalgic!
It took us over 20 to 30 minutes to get served. They seem to be out of pot roast shepherd pie and roast beef so we couldn’t order what we wanted. We ended up ordering fish. The fish was not cooked all the way it just wasn’t a very good visit no waitress ended up breaking glasses and some Dishes, glass fell on my legs. Here are the pictures to show.
First time visiting Cracker Barrel, love that breakfast is served all day! Will definitely be visiting again soon and bringing my family with me. Management was very attentive while waiting for my table. Service was decent, drink didn't get refilled with me having to ask for it, my buscuits were forgotten- I requested them as well. I also received credit for a pancake that wasn't brought out. However, the tasty food made up for each error and I will just have to plan another trip for the pancake.
I love this place! First, the is delicious. I haven't had anything that I didn't like. If you are a vegan or vegetarian, there is a serious limit on what you can eat here. Everybody else....you will be in heaven. The cornbread Dressing is to die for. The front part of the Restaurant is where the fun is. We can get lost in this area and can find gifts for yourself and everyone in your family. It is expensive but worth it.
What an amazing place! It’s such an experience visit this place, since you enter you can look all the store that is full of candies, furniture, toys and unique things. The food is amazing, the bacon is wonderful and the most incredible thing, the pancakes and the original maple syrup. The only bad thing of the place is tha you have to wait 30-40 to eat. But all is amazing.
You can't go wrong with Cracker Barrel, food is really good, waitress was lovely & restaurant was clean. They always have really cute decorations for sale & I tend to purchase extra items all the time. My only complaint is the cashier, she was a bit of a grouchy, I asked her a question & she seemed irritated smh.
Stopped by this location since we were in the area. No long wait, we did browse the shop. So many Christmas decorations! Staff at check in were really nice. Our server was Josh. Food was all so good. Tried the chicken fried steak, grilled chicken tenders, & steak. Wife was disappointed to find out they didn’t have broccoli Casserole and then our son wanted the dumplings and they also didn’t have it. For sides we ended up ordering fries, masked potatoes, Mac n cheese…. The complimentary biscuits were also good. They had the corn bread as well. We were so stuffed that we didn’t have room for dessert. For it not being a busy time and hardly a crowd josh wasn’t on top of it. Definitely not what we are accustomed to.
The atmosphere was typical Cracker Barrel. We were greeted by a cheery faced man upon entering. We were there during the breakfast hours. My son ordered the steak breakfast and was suitably impressed by the way the steak was cooked and seasoned. My food was acceptable, not the best Cracker Barrel experience I've had but nowhere near the worst. One star removed because our waitress, while very friendly, failed to check on us after we had our food (until she brought the check) and never refilled our coffee. Otherwise, a comfortable visit.
Place was very busy for lunch and was loud. Waitress was great. Food was good too
We visit the San Marcos Texas store. We are usually very pleased with Cracker Barrel. It has always been my favorite place to dine. I actually worked at the Franklin Kentucky store for 6years back in the early 80's. But we were very disappointed in the fact that the country dinner plates are no longer available. We had to pay separately for our country ham and separately for our vegetables as well. The quality of the food has really gone down. We will be visiting there again. I sincerely hope that things are better next time. Because I really don't want to have to give up eating at Cracker Barrel.
I had breakfast this morning and the service was very good. The food was okay, but my biggest disappointment was the coffee. It wasn’t very good and I didn’t like the mini creamer cups. I wanted the pour-type creamer. This may seem like a petty reason to give 4 stars for the food, but this is a breakfast place and you should provide real creamer. I had to move because a guy was on a speaker phone conference call and extremely loud. He needed an earpiece. I’m
Eggs were. Gross and watery. I had them Scrambled. I specified hard... I got them gushy and wet. So gross. I can tell everyone works hard and the food comes out quick. Pancakes usually are huge and as big as the plate. These pancakes we ordered were kid size and aboit 1/4 size of plate. So not sure if this was a. Mistake or Downsizing. Definetly got chipped on the pancakes. Cashier was very friendly and so was the Hostes.
My boyfriend and I just had a wonderful breakfast together at the restaurant. We always enjoy eating breakfast when we do go. We have never had a dissatisfying experience with our food. We always leave with our tummys full. Now next time we go we have to go for lunch or dinner.
Came in for lunch. The restaurant was packed but it was early Sunday afternoon so it's reasonable to wait for a table. I ordered the meatloaf, hashbrown casserole and coleslaw. The food came out surprisingly quick. The potatoes were still a bit raw and the meatloaf cooled down rather quickly. I enjoyed the corn muffins. The employees were friendly and efficient. I did see a lot of treasures in the store while I waited for my table but I refrained from buying anything.
Got there around 5 so not busy yet, seated right away. Food itself was really flavorful and good. My only problem was mashed potatoes and collard greens were just lukewarm. The biscuits were dry & tasted like soda taste, not what I’m used to in pompano beach Florida. The tilapia was super hot right off the grill and delicious. The waitress was super friendly and attentive. The food was delicious just wish hotter. Love Cracker Barrel.
Great breakfast!! One of my favorite breakfast spots. Highly reccomend the "Country Boy" breakfast. Dinners are only OK (frequently seem like "buffet food" -- lukewarm and over-steamed). Servers are nice and personable, but always over-stretched when the place is busy. Quaint decor, and the Country Store is always interesting.
First time coming here in San Marcos and I can say the wait staff was amazing she was very friendly and accommodating. My family's food was great they truly enjoyed it as well as the corn bread and biscuits they serve before your meal as complimentary. My food however was ok but not great as I had heard about there campfire seafood plate and I wanted to give it a try, I was highly disappointed as the shrimp were very small and only came with 5, 2 corn and 2 small potatoes and a couple sausage. Sonas you can see a long with the photos attached it will not be something I get again. But over all this place is great and good atmosphere that you would expect from a cracker barrel.
A group of us decided to meet and eat at the Cracker Barrel located in San Marcos, which was located halfway between north Austin and San Antonio. We arrived and were fortunate there was NOT a waiting list, and we were seated immediately. Our server, Jon, was very attentive and on point. He really took care of us throughout our time at the restaurant. Jon took our drink orders and brought the drinks to us, and then took our lunch orders. Overall, I gave the visit 5 stars on service and atmosphere. I gave 3 stars on food because I expected the chicken n dumplings to taste better. It just missed the mark. The green beans were overcooked, and the liquidity was too much and overpowered the chicken n dumplings. I would recommend that these two items be separated into different bowls. In hindsight, I probably should have sent the dish back. The pictures are of chicken with broccoli and mashed potatoes and green beans, chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and green beans, and my chicken n dumplings and green beans. I will add i did try one of the chicken tenders, and it was good ! I hope you visit and your experience is better than my personal experience from a food perspective. It really is a fun place to visit and shop at the store, which will bring back a lot of old-timey memories.
Long wait , but plenty of shopping inside the store area. Not much for the Male shopper though. Prices seem good for a number of items. Food was good. The hashbown casserole was good but portion was very small. Chicken fried steak was great as always and the biscuits were a hit too. Our server friendly and attentive too. Overall was worth the wait.
The food was good and was ready fast. The service provided by the young man was fair but not the best. But the most disappointing part was the new mimosa, I ordered the strawberry one and when it arrived to the table I got a glass of syrup and a 187 ml “Mimi” champagne bottle that was not even half way full. When I asked the server if that was the “normal amount” I was supposed to get and he’s responds was that they need to fill up “the glass to the bottom of the Barrel” but that’s not what I had asked. I didn’t want to make a scene so I just left it like that but it was the most disappointing mimosas I have ever had for $5.99!
I hate to say that I am a creature of habit, but getting the same dish that I know to be tasty is fine with me. Unfortunately the quality of the roast beef was subpar this go round. What I received was dry (no gravy) & tough. I was very disappointed with my usual fav. Good portions but lack luster otherwise.
The waitress forgot my salad order and then blamed me for not reminding her. The food was tasty enough, though we had to wait for 20 minutes for the cornbread. The waitress at first was attentive, then after the food arrived she was too attentive, checking every 5 minutes or so to see if everything was ok. I noticed one lady waiting to be seated and after about 20 minutes - plenty of empty tables and 3-4 waitresses passed her several times- she got a menu and seated herself.
Felt like the cook did not want to be there. Food was cold. Portions of hash brown casserole was very small. Bacon was not a full slice. Pancakes were ok, but looked like they were made by McDonald's. Did not bring it up as I know cooks may spit in your food. I could have and should have stayed home and cooked, but took my wife out as this is her last week of vacation before returning to work next week (teacher). "Good enough" is not the key, "must be better" is. Please train your cooks to take pride in their cooking. We enjoy going to CB and would like to keep it that way. I appreciate your understanding and listening. Respectfully, A loyal customer
This Cracker Barrel is not up to Cracker Barrel standards. The bacon tasted like it had been sitting for an extended period of time then reheated. The biscuits were the size of a tablespoon. The worst part of my visit was my wife's French toast it was so cold that the butter would not melt. The service was great. The food was not. Cracker Barrel beds to remember who their customer base is. Just my opinion.
Visited on Black Friday. The wait actually wasn't long. Did some shopping through the gift store but we were very disappointed in our food. My friend ordered a steak medium and it was so tough. It was really very confusing. It was like chewing rubber and cutting through it was like sawing wood. The grits were cold, took forever for us to get our biscuits and butter. The whole experience was really quite disappointing as this has never happened to us before.
It's sad Cracker go down, my family loved going all the time. The food was good, hot & fresh, but they were out of cornbread, I love my cornbread. My server acted like she didn't care, disappointed. Any way, it was a good meal.
I ordered the greens and beans plate. The beans were fine but the greens were terrible. They tasted like they sat out too long. My son said his fried chicken and his side of Mac and cheese and dumplings were good. I also ordered a side salad but they brought a dinner salad… I normally enjoy my meals at Cracker Barrel but this time, it was just off. I decided not to take the chance on a dessert. Next time!
Ordered a breakfast plate at the store in San Marcos Tx. First time to this particular store. The food was terrible !!! Eggs under cooked, sauage burned !!! Worst breakfast experience Ive ever had at a Cracker Barrel location !!!
Ordered the sampler: meatloaf, chicken fried chicken and chicken and dumplings. The food at this particular location is unimpressive and more along the lines of food from the frozen meals section of a grocery store in quality and taste! The sides were even worse, green beans were greasy from pork fat and like mush, potato casserole was tasteless, loaded with salt and dry like paste. My opinion is if you like the frozen section quality of food, this is your place or just go to the grocery store and pocket the difference!
I recently dined in at Cracker Barrel and the service was not it. I believe it was one of the host that kind of seemed to have an attitude towards not just me but my sister as well. The food was good and our server was very kind. My parents only speak Spanish and our server tried her very best to speak Spanish as well. Unfortunately, I was not able to get her name.
I invited my family out to eat and waited 1.5 hours to get seated at a mostly empty restaurant. Then, when we get seated, there are 2 other 12 person parties sitting together, but they decided to split our party up into two separate tables. No explanation for why they split our party up or for why we had to wait when they had 20 empty tables. Then we had to consistently wait to ask and continue asking for drink refills, napkins, and biscuits throughout the whole meal. The food we did get was bad. Cold biscuits, mash potatoes, chicken fried chicken... the best thing we ordered was appetizers. Bad service and food in my opinion. This isnt even my first time we. I have brought my family here 8 times before. Less and less show each time. So message recieved, we do not enjoy this place anymore. I won't be inviting my family back.
The server was wonderful. I have no complaints in that regard. It is this fact that I gave 2 stars. The heavy set male cashier seemed disinterested and was borderline rude. My complaint is with the food. I ordered the grilled tenders plate. It was hot and tasted good. However, these "tenders" could have easily passed for nuggets. My hand is there for size comparison. I am a female with friggin tiny hands. These "tenders" are tinier than my fingers... I cleaned this plate and still was not full. My server said this is how the tenders typically come. If that is the case, maybe yall should consider a new supplier.
Food at this location was not very appealing and appetizing we each got something different and each of the entrees had something wrong or not good about it.. our waitress was good. I jus remember this place use to have good homemade food and was warm and filling did not get this experience this time around
Normally I never have an issue with Cracker Barrel, however today’s visit was just not up to par. Service wasn’t the best, a tad slow considering it wasn’t busy. When we received our food, one of my sides didn’t come out and then the waitress finally let me know they didn’t have one of my sides. Should have let me know when taking my order. Everything we ordered also didn’t come out, we had to ask and remind the waitress we had ordered certain things. My husband ordered the meatloaf with mash and beans and honestly he was upset because the food was cold. He only ate the meatloaf and even then he said it gave him an aftertaste which wasn’t pleasant. For a $75 bill, food and service did not feel justified. Had to Edit, it has been 24hrs since our visit and my husband now has food poisoning, the meatloaf was the last thing he ate and since then has been feeling ill. Won’t be returning here.
Told the wait was 15 minutes, waited 45 minutes and the host called my wife a man's name. He needs a different career. Food was bland and dry. Guess the quality went out the window. Lots of dirty tables while everyone waited. Server did all she could to make up for a pathetic experience.
I work at the same center as the restaurant so I frequently go there but today I don't know if it was a different cook or they changed the recipe but the pancakes were terrible and I usually go there for the pancakes. After I started eating I called the waiter over to ask if they changed the recipe because they were so bad. I showed him what they look like. All he told me is he didn't know of any changes and walked off. Pretty disappointed because it wasn't just mine it was my wife's meal as well. If this is how the food is going to be, plus the lackluster service I got from my waiter when I brought it to his attention. Not sure if I'll be going back.
Our food was lousy. I used to love cracker barrel but haven't been in several years. They have really gone downhill. The food took a very long time and just wasn't at all what I had expected. It tastes like they use a cheap oil for everything. It was just off. We were a party of 6 and only 1 of us thought the food was alright. Not to mention several other little mishaps such as missing side items, 4 butter pks for 6 people, and other. The manager was not at all inconvenienced to adjust of bill to make up for lousy food & that was very appreciated. Unfortunately, I don't think I will go back. Side note - the gift store never disappoints, they have some really cool stuff!!
Ordered Biscuits and gravy with a side of tomatoes and bacon. My friend ordered a strawberry crape with a side of fruit. When we were sat we had a male table waiter come get our drink order and said he would be serving us. He left to get our drinks. Then a female waitress came and tried to do the same thing. We explained we had a waiter already. She stormed off. She returned with drinks looking frustrated. We asked if they did fried pickles in the AM and she wasn't sure but would bring us a lunch menu to look at. We placed out order for the pickles while we decided on what we would get. Once we ordered everything came out within 5 minutes. I am not joking 5 minutes!!! Someone else brought out our food and we had to ask where the fried pickles were. Looking confused the girl said I didn't see them on your ticket. I said well I asked for them and after she read back our order it was on there. The girl left the table unsure of what was going on. Our waitress came back shortly after and brought fried pickles. The pickles was soft and not very warm. My Biscuits was dry. The gravy was so thick and chalky my spoon could stand up. There was not flavor to the gravy except an old taste. The bacon was almost burnt. I like crispy bacon but not burnt bacon. I tried eating my breakfast but couldn't. When I told the waitress she looked disgusted and upset. It wasn't her food it was mine. I should have been the one to feel that way. I was very polite and said no worries everyone has a bad day sometimes. That didn't help infact it seemed to make her even more mad. My friend couldn't hardly eat her breakfast either. The cream on the crape tasted like straight sugar. It over powered the crape. The hottest and the shop was extremely polite and helpful. But we will not go back.
I honestly don’t understand the big hype about this place. The food is just okay—nothing that makes you say, “Oh my gosh, I have to have this again.” For the pricing, it’s decent, but nothing special. One thing that really surprised me is that they don’t offer any discounts for first responders or military, which is disappointing. The service was pretty average—nothing terrible, but nothing great either. Honestly, the best part of the visit was looking at the old country-style décor on the walls. It brings a nice nostalgic feeling, but beyond that, I just don’t see what all the excitement is about with these restaurants. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but that’s my honest opinion.
Got the firewood chicken, and seems like i asked for it medium rare. We waited 30 minutes for the food and the chicken still had blood. I informed my service and she said i will get my manager. I didn't ask for the manager but i figured they would accommodate the long wait and raw chicken. What does she do, she come to the table and asked what can whe do for us..... Then i proceeded to tell her well we been waiting for a while and i got my chicken raw... She didn't even apologize for the wait or the inconvenience all she said was if i wanted to wait or get something else. My family was half way eating their food so, i just told her to get it to go i guess. Didn't even bother to take something off and even at that we waited another 30 minutes and it never came out. I asked my server just to take it off the ticket, and then manager comes back with the ticket and just say that she took it off like she did a great favor. Thanks, i didn't eat... you did a very good job. Who ever is in charge of Emily the manager needs to put her back in training. An accommodation or even an apologies goes a long way.
I usually have an average experience at this location, but my recent visit was unfortunately very disappointing. While our server was kind the service overall was extremely slow. We waited 20 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order and then another 10 minutes just to receive the drinks. We requested the biscuit and cornbread basket and were told they weren’t being offered, yet every table around us was receiving them. It felt frustrating and inconsistent. Throughout the meal getting anything we needed like refills or condiments involved another long wait as our server would disappear into the kitchen for long periods. We only received one drink refill during the entire visit. I don’t want to call out the waitress personally but the experience felt like a waste of time especially compared to past visits. Hoping this was just an off day but it definitely left a bad impression.
Love their food and got to have a Margarita! Service is good and the atmosphere is laid back, can be a little rowdy
We waited over 50 minutes for a meat loaf dinner, chicken fried chicken and a campfire meal. Most of which is probably premade. Then our food comes, she brings out 2 identical meat loaf dinners, 2 full size chicken and dumpling bowls, then got an attitude when we told her she got the order wrong! She took back one of the bowls of dumplings after placing it there, probably served it to someone else. The mgr came to ask how everything was going and I explained our wait time, and the mistake of orders and she took the second dumplings bowl. 25 minutes later they bring my daughter her chicken, dried. So my daughter got to eat broccoli and biscuits. After all that she over charges he! I would be more understanding if they were short or busy but it wasn’t. I asked for a to go drink and she brings me the kiddie size cup with more ice that’s anything else! So needless to say to say the experience at the San Marcos location was horrible all around!
Great food but we had a terrible experience! They had only half of our order out took 25 minutes to get the other half out then they forgot my daughter’s plate (we eat together as a family of course) so half of our tables food was COLD by the time the other half got there I was UPSET ! spoke with a manger who just said sorry he could microwave our cold food ! At this point I just wanted to leave all food on the table and walk out ! I’ll never visit this location again! But the cold food was great 👍
It was our servers first day and she was awesome! The food was terrible. I ordered the meatloaf and it was cold, not even lukewarm, it was cold. The fried okra tasted old and like it was reheated. I ordered the chicken and dumplings, it was a cold, congealed, and disgusting. My okra was also rubbery and reheated. We told the manager and she wanted to redo everything which was appreciated but we didn’t want it redone. She appeared irritated and threw her hands up and told us to have a good evening in a super sarcastic way. Not impressed.
The atmosphere was great, very old country style with a gift store and many items available. The service was not that great at all. The waitress was not attentive and this will vary based on stores. I gave this a low star review because the food is basically food. You would probably find in the Walmart freezer section that you would just take home and heat up. The food was not seasoned very well. It was cooked perfectly, however it was not overcooked or undercooked. I could just tell the quality of the food was very cheap. Overall this was my first time at a cracker barrel and I would not be back but I was happy to go one time in my life.
We stopped through here on our way back home. We walked in and went to the back to add our name to the waiting list. We were then told there was someone at the door taking names. Nobody was at the door when we walked in. I walked back to put my name on the waiting list. That is when told us there was a 30-40 minute wait for a table. Once we were taken to the table, we were seated about 5 minutes before we had a “temporary” waitress that took our drink/food order. Once the waitress over that table we were seated at verified our order we waited another 55 minutes for our lunch/breakfast. Our waitress had seated and served 3 other tables twice prior to serving us. They finally got us our food and when it arrived I immediately noticed there was plastic (what I thought was an onion) fried into my chicken fried steak. We received our drinks from the temporary waitress but the main waitress over our table never brought us another drink even waiting 55 minutes on the meal. The coke was so watered down I didn’t even drink it. They did offer to replace the steak but I was not risking waiting another hour for a steak. The meal a friend ordered did not come out right either although the temporary waitress repeated it correctly. The manager did try to correct the issues that arose by compensating our meal. Before leaving I had to use the restroom which was not the cleanest restroom. Trash was over flowing, there was peep in the floor of the stalls, water all over the floor by the sinks.
Waited 30 minutes and were sat by the entrance with everyone walking in and out knocking into my chair or worse touching it. It was obvious that our food was an afterthought we both ordered the same thing, they looked like 2 separate restaurants prepared each plate. It wasn’t even brought out by the server but someone in a dirty shirt. Our coffee was old and cold and never refilled. Nobody asked how out food was after it was brought out, i would have said it was unacceptable. The waitress asked if we wanted biscuits brought now or with the meal. I answered “whatever is easier” we were never brought biscuits. It was only moderately busy (each server had 3 tables) on a weeknight. Zero excuses. Oh and the register glitched and it took another 10 minutes to check out. Worst service in San Marcos in 5+ years. Only thing redeeming them was the cashier had a lovely demeanor.
